After a two nights day of vacationing and resting in Las Vegas, it was time to go to work. When I mean work, I mean, punching another marathon on my quest to run run 50 states marathons/ultras for the second time around.
Enter Cornerstone Park here in Las Vegas, or Henderson Nevada. This is the site venue of the Jackpot ultras running event, held annually in this for a while now in February. There was a nice paved trail that laps around the lake. The park itself was quite large, sporting a few hills, here, and there, to make it a scenic endeavor for myself and countless others, who come here every day to enjoy the park. There's people like me who like to run laps around it. The park quite scenic, especially with a nice little pool with wildlife in it while I was here, I enjoyed the ducks splashing around and making noise among its peers. It was nice to see them either being independent of each other, finding way to each other, or just finding breakfast, lunch or dinner for the day. The park can support a 3 mile loop circumnavigate the entire park and the lake. There is a large parking lot and they have restroom facilities for anybody and everyone who needs it. There's also a few pavilions with picnic tables along with overhead shelter for people who like to sit down and enjoy the park for its natural beauty. Cornerstone Park is such a nice place to visit if you're in the area and don't like Las Vegas and the strip. It is an alternative to all the gambling and shows and everything else you know about Vegas. But outside the strip it is all open country where the local residents live. Is definitely nice to see wide open spaces here in the Las Vegas Valley.
The park itself is a nice place to sit and hang out if you need. Recommended if you're in the area and it is the site where crazy people run in February. Unless the race organizers change the date. The over experience here at cornerstone Park here in Las Vegas, Nevada was very much enjoyable and peaceful. There are numerous places to sit down and enjoy the park. There are park benches also in various places. While there are restroom facilities in the parking south, there are no restaurants available unfortunately. We must bring your food from outside the park perimeters and you must clean up after yourself as well. my experience here was during Presidents' Day weekend in 2024. It was nice to be here specially, with insanely good weather. No rain and it was cool in the evening which stepped into the mid 40s the high that we was around upper 50s Fahrenheit. There is a dirt path around the lower part of the lake, which is nice for those people who enjoy that. Oh yeah, there's a basketball court on the upper side of the park as well. This park tries to incorporate everyone and everyone in the community to visit. Whether you're walking the paths, training for your first or 50th half marathon, or just taking your dog out for a walk, there's something for everyone here at Cornerstone Park. I particularly enjoyed the uphill session where it was close to the housing area. Also, the ducks too, as mentioned before.
Cornerstone Park is located in Henderson Nevada. Like all parks, no admission fee required. That's right. Is free. Yay!! It's physically located at 1600 Wigwam Parkway in Henderson. As far as parking goes,, really big parking spot for anybody and everybody to enjoy the park. For myself, though, I ended up taking Uber to and from the park it is pretty cool to have Uber on demand, especially on a Saturday and Sunday morning. And that's before 9 AM. I guess Las Vegas is one of those places were 24 seven matters the most. I think the Las Vegas public transportation system comes through here, if you want to use that venue. But for most of us having a rental car, or a private rental car is also Dahl. How you get here, get here. Very nice and scenic. Do yourself a favor and come here if you get a chance, you get to see ducks playing in the water and that makes most people smile. I know it did with me when I was there doing multiple loops around the lake. The white open spaces and the great outdoors are great for the human spirit. The park is also great for anybody to compress after a hard day at the office. Come on down if you're in the area and need the break from the Las Vegas' casinos or life's many stresses.
5.0 stars for the overall experience.
