The Perfect One-day Itinerary in Amsterdam

"Visiting the Corner Store in north Amsterdam felt lively and casual with minimalist decor, bumping vinyl tracks, and vibrant bites; the pan-Asian-inspired menu pairs well with a hefty selection of natural wines, and it's great to share plates like tempura kale, lotus root pickles, and cauliflower with black garlic—or opt for the chef's tasting menu that takes you through eight courses." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. The 38 Essential Amsterdam Restaurants

"Music plays a major role at Cornerstore, a collab between a handful of vets from popular spots like Café Binnenvisser and De Klaproos. At the minimalist space in Amsterdam Noord (north Amsterdam), a cabinet behind the bar is full of vinyl, which lends superb music to meals of natural wines and pan Asian-inspired dishes bursting with fresh, fermented, umami-packed flavors. Vegetables are the lead singers in most items, while fish and meat form a background chorus. Order small plates to share, or enjoy the attractively priced 10-course chef’s menu. Don’t forget to put on your dancing shoes; midway through supper the music turns up, before the tables are cleared away altogether for guests to dance toward evening’s end." - Monique van Loon

"“Recently opened its doors, with a super nice concept, great food, and superb selection of wines. The interior is well done with light art by Nikki Hock. They don’t do reservations. My advice: come early.” (Hock also created the light installation for Wandler’s presentation, “Without Light There is No Color.”)"

Loved the ambiance and the atmosphere, service is a little slow but the staff is very friendly and kind. The food can be a little unique and personal. I loved most of the courses but some of my friends weren’t big fans. The dessert course however was a massive hit.

We went for the 7 course menu with the meat and fish. Every dish was a delight and carefully prepared. The main dishes were delicious. The natural wine collection also didn’t disappoint, although could have a few more options.

Another great evening at Cornerstore! The creativity of the dishes- and drinks- doesn't stop amazing me after by now multiple visits... and the vibe is great. Lovely and knowledgeable staff. I can highly recommend Cornerstore!

The flavors are well achieved but the experience is not very satisfying at all. It's OK but on the spicy side, and the family style concept is not that generous. The quantities are a bit confusing, some dishes are 1 for each while some are not and the portions are not very big so it's hard to share. For example we got 2 duck legs for 3 people but 7 pieces of eggplant and 2 rice?😅 I think it's a better experience as a couple than as a friend group. The wine list is very interesting and the servers are very nice.

We always walked past this little gem and saw the nice lighting and sometimes a dj playing music, and then finally we had the time to try it out. It’s just been a few weeks since we were there and I’ve already made another reservation again. cornerstore is just amazing. The food, the vibe, the service. All of it was seriously top notch. The food is creative and unbelievably flavorful. We had some of the best oysters ever here, better than at some michelin star restaurants. Their take on ceviche was mindblowing. The fried cauliflower is pickled first and you could taste it, so good. All in all, amazing and super comforting flavors. I’ve never had creative dining experiences that made me feel so cozy and comfortable. And tbh, cs is basically fine-dining without the price tag. Its not cheap but you get an insane value for your money. I mean 50€ for 5 courses is just really fair for Amsterdam. thats what makes cs great. It’s unpretentious, and it’s super good. I wish I had tried it a little sooner. Try it out. I will go again for sure.

Love love love cornerstore. One of the few places that does Asian fusion RIGHT and in an interesting, culinary way, instead of just throwing kimchi on something that doesn’t need it and calling it a day. Tasting menu is always changing but the tempura vegetable starter is always so delicate and tasty, and I still think about the barbecued pork dish with langoustine sambal I had here back in the summer. Divine!

This place is worth prioritizing in Amsterdam. The menu was exceptional, the music vibey, great ambiance, and the wines were fantastic. We got the vegetarian prix fixe menu and added one extra dish to share. We would’ve been fine with just the prix fixe, but definitely don’t skip the brioche…. The lotus root and the sweet potato tempura were both amazing. The sesame noodles were perfect. The brioche was standout. The yuzu cocktail was a bit too light. The desserts were both absolutely phenomenal and with a little Armagnac… just as the DJ started spinning, fantastic end to the night. We had an early reservation but I’d recommend 7:30 or 8:00 to better time with the DJ starting.
