"Cornet Custard is a restaurant co-founded by Naomi Pomeroy and her longtime sous chef Mika Paredes. It started as a pop-up within Pomeroy's flower shop Colibri and opened its first standalone location in May 2023. The restaurant is one of Pomeroy's latest ventures, reflecting her ongoing contributions to Portland's culinary scene." - Erin DeJesus

Google
Super unique and tasty flavors! Loved being able to sample. Super good we couldn’t even wait before snapping a photo. Very decent sized single scoop. Can’t wait to be back again.

Google
Best custard ever! Their flavors range from coffee to lemon meringue pie to blood orange dreamsicle (think creamsicle but better) to butterscotch raspberry to bananas foster to cookies 'n cream to.... The focus on local and seasonal ingredients is reflected in the amazing taste and also means you get new flavors frequently. The staff is amazing and super knowledgeable about the product/ingredients, which makes me feel 100% comfortable taking friends & family with food allergies. My freezer isn't complete if there isn't a pint or 2, ok maybe 3 in it.

Google
Don’t overlook this place because of another know ice cream brand down the street this ice cream is quality and unique flavors. Sometimes unique flavors can over shadow the point of ice cream this place does it without the cereal or crazy toppings. The flavors also changed frequently so check often weekly.

Google
YUM!!! Tried this spot for the first time today and do not regret it. I got the coconut lime + banana foster as a split single scoop: it was a nice heavy handed scoop for $8 and perfect for the 90 degree weather. Also learned they alternate flavors every 2 weeks (I’m a sucker for a constantly changing menu). Will definitely be coming back to try again.

Google
We love this place & Elise is spectacular! Best ice cream shop in the country, no doubt. The changing flavors and amazing cones call us back again and again. When we want to treat ourselves, this is where we go ;)

Google
Delicious! You can sample before deciding. Everything I tried was good and it was hard to decide which to choose. You can buy by the scoop or they have pints to go.

Olivia

Google
They advertise gluten free but this is false. Went in and asked if they could make a scoop from the back so it wasn’t used to scoop between flavors. She told me all of the ice cream was made on the machine anyways so it didn’t matter, there was cross contamination for every flavor. Long story short, don’t advertise you have gluten free ice cream if you don’t have it.

Google
I didn’t really know what custard was before trying but it is closer to ice cream than I imagined. I sampled every flavor and they were all delicious, especially the rum raisin. I ended up ordering half chocolate/half butterscotch but there were so many possible combinations that would have been as good. Apparently, they change their menu frequently. I really enjoyed the friendly and helpful staff as well as the custard. I definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
Cornet Custard came highly recommended, and while they don't have 31 flavors, they sure do do an excellent jobs with the flavors they have! The employee kindly let my sisters and I try as many flavors that we were interested in. In the end, I settled for the Madagascar vanilla and pb chocolate, with the rum raisin being a close one as well I'll say, but I had to share with my little one, so had to pass on this. *Street parking and no huge, flashy sign, so just be on the lookout, esp at night.

Yelp
Okay, I will admit, the custard here is phenomenal. Flavors are spot on, perfectly creamy. I will acknowledge that the price is a bit outlandish. However, the cone is free and the portions for a single is large. I got two different flavors and they were full scoops of each. I likely wouldn't come by often but definitely the occasional indulgence

Yelp
Tried Cornet Custard yesterday and enjoyed it! The shop is bright and clean. Small footprint, but a couple of benches to sit and scarf down your scoop. Prices are up there, with a single scoop being $8, double $13, and pints at $17. The scoop size is generous - I wish they had a kids scoop option for cost and portion size. The staff is friendly and allow you to try samples, which is always appreciated. The flavors I tried were all delicious. My vegan friend would've have liked more vegan flavors. I ended up getting chocolate and butter pecan in a cup to share with my partner. The texture is great.

Yelp
Came in for a treat while hubby was at the music store. First time here, and was looking forward to trying. The rum raisin was good, however it was really icy as you ate it & far too sweet. Just a bit too pricy to keep returning. Maybe for special occasions.

Yelp
We each got a single scoop in which you are able to go half on two flavors, it is a solid portion and we honestly could've shared one. My favorite was the peaches and cream. Subtly sweet but you could still appreciate the fruit flavor. Malted strawberry reminded me of those individual ice cream cups you'd get at summer camp in the best way possible, just with 5x the strawberry flavor. The mint chip was just okay for me but my friend really liked it.
google avatar

Maro S.

Yelp
Overpriced, only a few flavors, and a little icy, lighter flavor than expected. Also bummed they ran out of cones when we went. Tried the mint chocolate-- very creamy and just the right amount of mint. Should have ordered it. Ordered strawberry malt and peaches/cream. Both were lighter flavor than expected, especially peach. Peach portions were kind of icy, too. For $8 a scoop and a whopping $17 per pint, I suspect we won't be back soon. It's not close to us and not worth the wait or price. I'm bummed because I miss frozen custard and was super excited about this spot.

Yelp
Cornet Custard has been making small batch frozen custard in a limited residency at Colibri. Custard is rich, including egg yolks, and Cornet does not have the air of lesser, lighter ice creams. They are a branch of Naomi Pomeroy's Ripe empire, once available at the late Ripe Cooperative, and then in residency with Colibri Flowers. The new small shop has pints and scoops, bowl or cone. I had the strawberry shortcake and the Devil's Food dark chocolate. The scoops are generous. They are adult flavors not overly sweet. Take-home, they would fit well with special occasions or dinner parties. Their website and socials will announce the current flavors. The store is small, with one cafe table. No seating outside for now though that may change with Pomeroy's soon-to-open project next door. Opening day was the last day of the Portland Public Schools school year; there was quite a selection of parents and children enjoying a treat. They did also have a small selection of stunning small flower bouquets. So you could satisfy several romantic needs at once! The staff was excited about the opening and kept up with opening day love from customers following them for years!

Yelp
Had dinner and we were in the mood for dessert and found this place on yelp so we decided to try it out! The staff were super friendly. We got to try almost every flavor as they have a small selection. We decided to get a split single scoop of strawberry shortcake and devils food (rich dark chocolate). Both were really good and not overtly sweet. It is on the pricier side for ice cream but fair for a small business. I like the strawberry shortcake so much that I went back inside and got a pint of it. The place inside is small but very bright and clean. I only saw one table inside but there are also benches outside. I'll definitely come back!

Yelp
The former lounge space next to Woodsman Tavern is still spinning vinyl along with serving up treats. In the current incarnation, the neighborhood is being offered frozen custard courtesy of Naomi Pomeroy. The first item on the menu at Cornet was Peanut Hot Fudge Sundae - an upgraded version of a DQ staple. It was wonderful to see a dessert variation of what they've done at the nearby Matt's BBQ Tacos - taking something from the fast food world and running with it.... in this case, rich custard contrasting with the peanut crunch. The Devils Food option was similarly intense in flavor, with a bit of cakiness taking over on the texture side. Inside, there's a counter for serving scoops, a freezer with pints, and a small table with two chairs. Outside, there are two backless metal benches flanking the door, so it's not an environment that encourages lingering.

Yelp
I am a big cornet fan! They always have such creative flavors like Thai tea, Mexican chocolate, or passionfruit. I would love to see a guava or pandan. The shop is so cute. The staff let you try the flavors and the scoops are generous. It is a bit expensive I will say but a good treat. The custard is very well made. The fridge is always stocked. Definitely worth the stop for date night or a celebration!

Yelp
This place is delicious and so cute!! I was so excited they opened up an actual shop and sell by the scoop and pint now. It's a little expensive but you definitely get a big scoop and you can tell the custard is made really well. Very unique flavors and perfectly creamy! They also let you try flavors which is helpful. I can't wait to go back and try more!

Yelp
This cute restored shop is one of the very few places that serve custard in the region. I had the only menu item that consisted of more than one flavor: corn blackberry cajeta (caramel). It was delicious. My wife had the strawberry, which she loved but I thought was just OK. None of the other five flavors interested me. The big downside was their cone: it was dry and tasteless, and at 7 inches long, the longest cone I've ever held. The custard doesn't drip down into the cone, so you end up with basically an inedible custard holder.

Yelp
I love the passionfruit Well that's a statement right :). It's not too sweet and very fruity. I had the coffee custard as well. It was ok. I sampled the corn custard with fruit swirl but that was way too sweet for me. Love that they can do two flavors in a single - since a single costs $8 at the time of the review (September 2024) I was concerned about the price. But a single is two scoops everywhere else so make sure you make the most out of a single. Other then that it's good ice cream - yes I said it since I do not really see the hype for custard it tastes like a good ice cream - the store is cute and I wish it would be closer since I could eat the passion fruit every day!

Yelp
I really liked the vegan flavor. Service was quick and the space was cool, I enjoyed it!

Yelp
Have passed by Cornets a few times headed to surrounding businesses and their unique design and brand style made me bookmark it for its own special trip. I sampled both the mint chocolate chip and the malted strawberry, and although the texture threw me slightly as it was very different from any custard I had enjoyed previously, the flavors were too fresh and delectable to choose so I ended up getting a split scoop!
google avatar

Chelsea W.

Yelp
Cornet has a super cute little scoop shop where you can also buy pints. They let you sample everything, which I did. Even basic vanilla was very delicious! They have rotating flavorings and I ended up choosing mint chip. It's good! But I don't know if I think it's THAT much better than regular ice cream. Still worth trying for good flavors and an interesting concept. It's expensive, $8 for a single scoop but it was a generous single scoop! $17 pints. But I ready they out 12 eggs per quart of this and remember how much eggs cost?

Yelp
Grand opening day was busy but well staffed for the event. It was a beautiful day to enjoy their shared patio. Definitely recommend checking out their unique flavors made with quality ingredients. Might as well grab a pint too!
google avatar

Yelp
You need to try all the flavors! Especially the coffee and vanilla. Bright and vibrant storefront and the staff are very friendly. Price is a little high but the portion is HUGE. Beat the heat with a frozen custard and you can thank me later.

Yelp
Umm WOW. I am an ice cream snob because I've had amazing ice cream and I'm low-key lactose intolerant so if I'm going to suffer, it needs to be worth it! I wanted to try everything but was on the move so I got two split scoops to go. I tried the vegan coconut lime (more like a sorbet) with coconut milk base. Delicious tart, creamy limey. Refreshing on a super hot day. The passion fruit was that girl - my favorite -- sweet, creamy, tart with a hint of vanilla (my two favorite flavors on earth). The Mexican chocolate was rich and creamy with a great spice balance. And the corn blackberry cajeta was savory, sweet, creamy and decadent with the cajeta (like a caramel). I didn't realize they were only open a few days a week because I need to go back for pints. They're that good. Thank you for your fresh, delicious ice cream. And everyone was SO FRIENDLY. Shop is cute and in a good location, too. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We had dinner at Lechelle next door, so it was only natural we stopped here for a sweet treat. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from custard. Would it be closer to ice cream, gelato, who knew? Well I can say it was delicious. It had a softer and creamier texture than ice cream, but felt more flavorful than gelato. Honestly it was delicious. I had the cookies and cream and thought it was one of the best cookies and cream flavors in frozen dessert that I've had. The cone could have been a little tastier and it was spendy, but really what a delicious treat otherwise. I hope they come back to doing scoops in NE PDX as we live super close to Colibri, but we will certainly be back.

Yelp
i had high hopes for this place since social media popped it off but the flavor was mild, the consistency was icy and it was really overpriced :( i'll have to try again next time when there are seasonal flavors!

Yelp
We love custard, so when we heard about Cornet, we had to try it. Stopped in and were struck by what is a very cute shop - nice tile decor and paint colors. Also the staff were friendly. During our visit they had a very limited selection of flavors - only 5 options. I sampled most of them and landed on a single scoop of the butterscotch raspberry. I thought it was good - flavorful and creamy - but I wasn't blown away. I couldn't tell much of a difference from ice cream at Salt & Straw, so I'm not quite sure what makes custard unique. And while the cone was stylistically attractive, the consistency and taste were no different from what you'd get in a cake cone from the grocery store. I also found the price pretty steep - $8 for a single scoop. I would like to come back one more time when they have other flavors in stock, but I was generally disappointed in my visit.

Yelp
Fantastic custard, and the new Italian cones are great, too. Nice chat with Mika Parede topped our afternoon visit. Yes, a cone runs $8, but the serving is generous, the ingredients are fresh, you're supporting a local business, and this is 2024. If that's not your thing, there's a Baskin-Robbins at 1815 NE Cesar E Chavez Blvd. Thanks, Mika; we'll be back!

Yelp
Tried this first at Colibri (pop-up) and got down to the SE location. I think it's good custard, but not as "custardy" as I would have expected. Would personally like to have bolder flavor options. It's also at the very top end of pricing for a scoop of ice cream/custard so be aware.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
Custard was excellent. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We sampled ever flavor that they had. All were very tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
I know custard. I continue to eat plenty of great custard in the Midwest. This doesn't seem like custard at Culvers, Gilles, Kopp's or Leon's. This doesn't come close to those rich creamy flavors. I couldn't tell if they even know your supposed to use egg yolks and cream which add to the full creamy texture. The flavors didn't seem to really work. Save your dough and hope to visit Wisconsin where they have a long history of frozen custard know-how.

Yelp
Walking in to Cornet custard I saw the menu and was a bit flabbergasted at the price. Eight dollars for a single scoop is insane and 14 for a double shoot me but after sampling three flavors I was hooked and it was the best nine dollars I've ever spent. All of the flavors had a strong flavor profile and tasted exactly like what they said, but with a natural and fresh approach. You could tell that they do not use natural flavors and additives to make it taste like what it says it is instead they use actual limes in the coconut and lime or fresh strawberries in the strawberry shortcake flavor. I had tried cornet custard when they were just having pints and previously when they were at Ripe, but this is just incredible. On a street with so many delicious dessert options Cornett custard is now in my top two for division. Price is high, very speedy but sooo sooo good.
google avatar

Betsy G.

Yelp
It was ok. But very expensive. Too expensive for ok. I wanted to love it and may stop in again as flavors rotate through.
google avatar

Yelp
Thoroughly disappointed. We thought that by being a custard it would be far creamier and it was very very basic. Very little flavor sadly. Their comes have no flavor at all and resemble cardboard. great idea, just not much of a follow through...

Krystee S.

Yelp
It was good, it was not amazing. It cost way too much for what it is. It seemed to cost more than Ebb and Bean, Cloud City, and Kate's. Again, it was not amazing. The view to the "artscape" across the street was really great.

Catie B.

Yelp
Sweetheart staff and phenomenal frozen custard! Always impressed with how clean and pretty the layout of the space is.

Denise L.

Yelp
This spot did not disappoint after seeing it all over social media. It wasn't as busy as expected but still a short line. All of the flavors were so unique and the texture cannot be beat, super creamy.
