Corona del Mar State Beach, affectionately known as 'Big Corona' by locals, is a scenic enclave with dramatic cliffs, gentle surf, and a wide, family-friendly beach. According to the Los Angeles Times and local favorite OC Weekly, it’s ideal for swimming, volleyball, and watching boats drift into Newport Harbor. The adjacent tide pools and rock jetties attract explorers of all ages, and the charming village of Corona del Mar offers independent cafes and boutiques within walking distance. Evening bonfires are a cherished tradition here, drawing the community together as the sun sets.

This is one of my favorite beaches in Orange County. It’s clean, safe, and has a relaxed vibe that makes it perfect whether you’re there to swim, sunbathe, or just take a walk and clear your head. The beach is wide with soft sand, and the water is usually calm because of the jetty ,great for kids or people who don’t like big waves. There are clean bathrooms and showers right on site, which is super convenient. The parking lot is right next to the beach, but it fills up fast on weekends, so go early if you don’t want to deal with that. You can also park in the neighborhoods nearby, but be prepared to walk down a hill. At low tide, there are tide pools to explore on the rocks, and you can sometimes spot little crabs or sea anemones. The sunsets here are amazing — definitely worth sticking around for. I’ve also seen rabbits around the edges of the beach, which was kind of random but cute. Overall, it’s a peaceful, scenic beach that feels a little tucked away even though it’s in the middle of Newport. Great spot for a quiet beach day without the party vibe of some other OC beaches.

It has a beautiful ocean view and much to do at the beach. The sand is clean, and there are many fire pits for people if you want to grill. Public toilets are available. There's one place to order food, but they close early by 5 pm. Paid parking is $21.00 for three hours on a Saturday.

This is our favorite place ever, we love to walk on the pier watch all the boats go by and walk in the sand from beginning to end and weighed in the water. It is gorgeous.

Beautiful State beach park, with framed cliffs and rock jetty. Plenty of parking space available ( paid parking). Couple of volleyball courts available, fire pits are provided for picnic and bbq.

Fishing the jetty is very fun and offers great views...also, right next door is "Little Corona Beach" which is one of the most relaxing beaches I have ever been to. I highly recommend it! That's after visiting about one year ago, after writing it off as "too busy" for many years. I have been many times since. Crowds have not been an issue for me so far, even on weekends.

Corona Del Mar State Beach is a beautiful, well-maintained spot in Orange County that exceeded my expectations. For a public beach, it was impressively clean with plenty of trash bins and staff visible. The sand was soft, the water was clear, and the view was stunning, especially at sunset. It’s a great place for families, couples, or solo visitors. Parking can get tight, but it’s worth the effort. I felt safe, relaxed, and truly enjoyed my time there. Whether you’re there to swim, sunbathe, or just take a walk, this beach delivers a peaceful and scenic experience. Will definitely be back!

All the So Cal beaches are lovely from San Clemente to past Huntington Beach. Parking off street is easier here than some of the others in the area. Corona del Mar, Dana Point, Newport Coast, Crystal Cove and parts of Laguna are family faves. Highly reccomend!
