The Best Breweries in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"For brews and burgers in a laidback space, head to this Coronado brewpub that’s been open for more than 20 years. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., this brewery and restaurant has a varied menu with everything from pub favorites — buffalo chicken tenders and calamari strips, for example — to thin-crust pizza, cotija-dusted street tacos, and jambalaya pasta. There’s a kid’s menu, too, for younger companions who are satisfied with comfort meals like mini corn dogs and crispy fish and chips." - Jackie Bryant

Google
Friendly service. Great beer and even better food. I've tired 80% of the menu, and i have not had anything bad yet. Try the Brewhouse burger or the ribs always great. They get your choice of temperature of burger spot on. They are also known for their pizza. Great salads and their tacos are yummy. You can't go wrong.

Been here a few times. Everytime we've dined, it's ALWAYS been great! Great service. Clean facilities. The waitresses are really knowledgeable about all the choices to eat & drink. We enjoyed it! Highly recommend. We had the Seared Ahi Tacos and burgers. 👏👍

Google
I’m honestly very surprised at this restaurant! The food is really good! The drinks are very yummy and they have a little bit of everything if you’re into sweet drinks or more bitter, you will be able to find something on the menu. The place is really big and spacious. It gets very very hot in there though 😓 so if you run hot make sure to bring layers.

Google
The food could be a bit better, personally it feels like the menu needs a overhaul. Very common menu items you see at San Diego breweries with pizzas or fried foods. The staff is amazing and patient though!

Google
Overall great experience at the Coronado Brewing Company. Arrived at around 6pm on a Thursday evening and although the bar area (front) had a decent crowd, the tabled rear area was fairly empty. Staff was very friendly and helpful. A decent selection of food and beer...everything was reasonably priced. Beer was fresh. The food was good-very good. Would love to return and try some other food items. Great environment. Street parking available along Orange Avenue...we didn't have a problem finding a space at that time.

Happy hour 2-6! Enjoyed both beers I ordered. Great pizza and nachos!

Google
The building was so cool and we enjoyed the atmosphere. I ordered the buffalo tenders as my main dish and they were great! Not too much breading and the chicken was tender. My husband had the ahi tuna tacos and he said they were flavorful and nice portion size.

Google
Nice atmosphere, good service and reasonable prices, especially for Coronado. Beer is $8 for a pint. Let me taste several beers as well. Burgers (16-18)and entrees are $16-25 a person. So not bad for the area. Burgers also came with fries. Good service. The only negative was my burger was not cooked to medium as requested and was well done. Was still very good and my friend’s burger was cooked medium so I think it was a fluke. Good burger! Overall definitely plan to return and highly recommend.

Yelp
This place feels more fun each time I visit! I like to go early in the day when there is no wait for tables. The staff is outstanding and the menu is really pretty great. This time I shared nachos & french fries with my friend. We sampled some of the beer options and challenged each other to learn more about hoppy taste in different IPA's. Last time we enjoyed cheeseburgers and fries, and that was so good I wanted to come back again! Looking forward to my next visit. Will be enjoying my souvenir glass at home!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick drink and cool off before heading on ferry. Get the orange street wit. Delicious esp if you like citrus summer brews. I'm unrefined I like blue moon, summer shandy, mango cart, lost coast etc. so this is my wheelhouse

Yelp
Great spot. Great choice of beers, something for everyone. The menu had plenty of choices. For an appetizer we the artichoke/spiach dip. For dinner, the hamburger and fish tacos, all were great. Our server was friendly, attentive and timely. Look forward to the next time here!

Yelp
Walked in at 11am to a pretty good size amount of staff and patrons. Bar was full. We were sat immediately by a smiling woman. Our waitress was quick to get our beer order, weekend vibes and salty crew blonde. Food is Grilled fish tacos and Fried fish tacos with side salad and tots. Both were delicious, beer is good as well . The location is right on the strip with plenty of seating.

Yelp
Came here during happy hour and got discounts on the beers and appetizers! Great location on Coronado. Service was quick. Beers were refreshing and tasty! The big pretzel was great. I liked the buffalo chicken tenders too. Got to watch a little of the padres game on the TVs there. Tons of seating. They have cool merchandise too. Recommend!

Yelp
Always a great time here. The food is delicious, the ambiance is comfortable, cozy, and laid back, and the service is great! I ordered my burger without the bun because I'm gluten free and they were willing to accommodate!

Yelp
I'm a member of the mug club here and this place is the best! Great food, (the ahi sandwich is amazing), great beer and the service is always top notch. We always swing by when we visit Coronado, which is like once a month!

Yelp
We had a nice time at this brewery last night. Can't believe we forgot to take a photo of the beer flight we had, but we had the following: Razzle Dazzle, Weekend Vibes, Nado and the Nado Dark. All we recommend. The Razzle Dazzle was a raspberry sour, but it wasn't overly harsh (not too sour). Highly recommend. Our server was great, the food came out quick. We shared the Nachos Borrachos which had carnitas and this amazing jalapeño beer cheese! It was divine!! It was topped with sliced pickled vegetables! So damn good!!

Yelp
Service was amazing and food came in fast- had a beer and it was refreshing- the wood fire pizza is amazing- highly recommend the Mediterranean Pizza- flavorful and delicious - afterwards went with a flight of beer- perfect pairing with the pizza

Yelp
Tim provides great bar service. The man knows his pours and pairings. Give Tim some love when you're there

Yelp
We visited here on a Saturday afternoon after showing my fiancé's parents around. Though it was crowded, we got seated right away for a party of five. The restaurant is located about a 5-10 minute walk from the ferry which isn't that bad. The food we got was really good and the portions were great as well. I got the chicken pesto flatbread pizza and my fiance got the Spanglish fries. My fiancé's family got the fish tacos and the burger (not photo'd). The only downfall were the flies. The flies seemed to really love our table. They kept surrounding us, landing on our cups and near our food.

Yelp
We stopped in here for dinner on a Friday night. It was definitely busy and there was a wait, but we it went fast and took the time they predicted. We enjoyed the food and beers, everything was tasty. The main issue was the service. It took quite a long time for our server to come to the table at the start and it was sporadic throughout with a lot of waiting. It is nice they have a kids menu and vegan options. There is a lot of seating and it has a nice atmosphere, plus the location is great. We would come here again. Pros: *Location *Yummy food and beer *Variety Cons: *Slow service *Can be busy

Yelp
Had a great experience popping in here for a late lunch/early dinner on a Tuesday. Very cute decor, reggae in the afternoon (thought it seemed to switch to a different genre at 4:30). We all picked various tacos since it was Taco Tuesday and everyone enjoyed them. My favorite was the crispy fish--nice light batter. We shared some fries that were wonderful, thin & crispy. Good beer. Our server was friendly & prompt, we thought she did a great job. Great beer!

Yelp
We live in downtown San Diego, every so often we like to take the ferry to Coronado and take a walk across the island to the beach, stopping for lunch on the way. This time we choose Coronado Brewing. The location is terrific, it looks like a sports bar when you go in, and the staff was friendly. I ordered Cajun Tacos and they were 'meh. They weren't bad, they were just 'fine'. There was very little seasoning, I didn't expect much because we knew we were going into a sports bar/brew pub but it still didn't live up to the name. It should just be called 'grillled shrimp'. They'd still be 'meh, but at least it would be appropriately named. The hubs ordered their special, which was a Bratwurst Burger. He said it was really good. I am super bummed that I couldn't get it but I'm allergic to egg and a burger in a lettuce wrap just isn't the same (there's just something about the burger juices that get absorbed into the bun - and with a BRAT, I can't imagine how yummy that'd be). His burger came with waffle fries and I ordered tots as a side to mine. Both items were good, although I do feel like if you offer a couple of different kinds of tacos that chips/guac or dip should be offered. Or maybe that's just me? Our waiter was SO nice and good about answering questions, which I always have with my egg allergy. We'd definitely go again. Likely I'd just get a burger wrapped in lettuce, because I DO miss a good burger.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with several TV's throughout playing the game. Service was good and food came out fast. The grilled Wahoo tacos were flavorful and not lacking in the size of the fish.

Yelp
I've had the fish tacos and salmon plate this far and I really like everything ate here. The salmon was especially tasty, just wish it was a bit bigger! Coronado brews are all generally solid as well. It's usually easy to get a table with good service.

Yelp
Coronado Brewing is a series of breweries I have been wanting to try for a considerable amount of time from my list. I am very glad to have at last tried it but the wit beer that we had was just fair. Steve and I love wit beers and that might have made us a little bit picky with them. The wit beer we had was the Orange Ave. Wit. Flavor highlights with this beer are fruitiness, citrusy and sweet. It is also a very light bodied and smooth beer which we almost always can appreciate. This wit was okay but Steve and I felt it wasn't the most memorable for this type of beer which is why I gave the score I did.

Yelp
This is our favorite place to eat in Coronado. The menu has lots of options, there are craft beers, and the setting and service are wonderful! It also doesn't break the bank and is a bit further away from where the crowds gather. It can get crowded on its own, no surprise it's a popular place. But the beauty of it is that it's a nice walk from the main hustle in the drag. It's also a short walk to the ferry landing and water. You can sit outside, or in a booth and open the shutters to get that outside vibe. There is a fireplace too for the couple months of the year it is cold here. Almost every time I have gone in they gave me just the seat I was hoping for. When they don't and I ask nicely for a different one, they are always super nice and easy about it. We went for a light dinner and we both opted for fish tacos. I had the wahoo tacos, my wife has the ahi. With entrees you can pick side salad, fries or tots. I opted for the salad, she got the tots extra crispy. The salad is a nice size and it had great toppings. They have a big selection of dressings, I usually get the basil because it is so darn tasty. They know how to do extra crispy, and the tots had a perfect crunch to them. The tacos are full of goodness with large pieces of fish, fresh crunchy cabbage and their sauces. Both came with a flavorful side of salsa. If you like a lively brewery visit on a summer weekend or dinner on a fun holiday. Otherwise, an everyday lunch or dinner is easy for seating, either right away or a short wait. The parking is easy too, if driving is your transportation of choice. You may park a block away at most, but the blocks are short and the weather is great! I highly suggest a walk down Orange Ave though, it's a nice way to end any meal.

Yelp
I am so thankful for this place. It is my first week on the ship, and it is not the most comfortable. Thankfully, this is a place where I can sit down and enjoy the game with some fresh ingredients, some good buffalo wings, and some good brew. I'm super thankful for Kaila, who helped me pick out a sour that was so good! The raspberry was wonderful. And she helped me pick out the best stuff on the menu, and I was not disappointed. It was so nice to have a place where I could both reflect and journal and be artsy, and be a bro at the same time.

Yelp
Great location on Coronado Island. We had a shrimp special that was delicious, the waiter was attentive and I loved the fireplaces and overall vibe. Great place!

Yelp
This is a fabulous restaurant on Coronado Island! The fish tacos were some of the best I've ever had. Service was fast and the waiter did great with keeping our drinks filled. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Went in for dinner, a few drinks and to watch a soccer game. The chicken tenders were delicious, as was the pretzel (two types of mustard - both great). The grapefruit sea salt seltzer was refreshing, a half pint was sufficient for me. The ginger beer I was slightly disappointed in - it had a water down quality, instead of the really punchy ginger flavor I expected. Still good, just not quite what I wanted. The person I was with said all the beers they tried were even better on tap than from cans. Well spaced, large restaurant. Staff was all friendly and helpful. Our server didn't rush our ordering, especially since we said we'd be there the whole game, but was around to bring the next round or dish when we needed.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food at what honestly felt like a really good value considering the prices of some eateries closer to the southern side of Coronado Island (and the Del). The pizza was certainly the standout and food came out fast! Looking forward to our next visit so we can eat here again.
google avatar

Yelp
We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who was accurate with her estimated 20-25 wait for a table. We were then seated quickly and had a friendly waiter. My sister got the strawberry watermelon hard cider & seared ahi tuna sandwich. She said both were excellent. I got the baby back ribs and they were happy to subside the fries & coleslaw for steamed vegetables. They were a little slow to get us some water, but overall a very nice experience.

Yelp
Great vibe, great service Dropped by walking around in San Diego. I wanted to grab some local beer to bring back to the hotel. I went in, and the staff was super nice and friendly, sat me down right at the bar and gave me some taste testers before we picked out a growler to fill up and bring back to my hotel. I went with the Red, which was a great choice and it was super tasty. There were a few that stood out and I would definitely sit down and get a flight with my meal if I go back. Couldn't recommend enough trying out this place if you are interested in sampling the local beers.

Bugume G.

Yelp
Never answer their phone and the beer has gotten average. The food is really good and the staff is cool. Never post beers like most places do. Have a great collab w Burgeon but who knows if they are pouring it
google avatar

Carrie G.

Yelp
Had a great lunch here! I got the ahi poke as an entree and it came with plenty of chips! My hubby got the Mahi mahi fish tacos and said they were solid. We both had the hard ginger beer and it was pretty tasty! Service was decent for a brewpub. The ambiance was very cozy too. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food! Perfect for lunch. cozy ambiance and quick service, did not try any of their beers but others said they were great. Would definitely recommend!"

Yelp
Not too far a walk from the ferry to get here. We walked here from the ferry, but it does look like parking is somewhat limited. Obviously it's very easy to get here on foot. The outside of the restaurant is super cute- the foliage is well taken care of, and it's easy to find. Their logo is adorable - a mermaid holding a beer! We got seated immediately for two people on a Friday evening. The service was good - quick, effective, though not super warm. I thought the beers were decent! There was a lot of choices. I had the salty crew, a blonde ale, which was refreshing. I don't remember the others in my flight. My boyfriend had a wonderful hibiscus ale that was juicy and crisp! I got a Cali turkeyburger which was pretty decent! Juicy, with fresh veggies, and a nice soft bun. They also had cute merch at the front- dog toys, stickers, some t shirts/tanks, pins, bottle openers, etc. love the mermaid logo!

Luis P.

Yelp
Great brewery experience at Coronado Brewing. I had the Aloha Warrior IPA, smooth, refreshing, and full of flavor. Great vibe, friendly staff, and plenty of other beers to explore. Definitely a must-stop.

Yelp
Food: street tacos, bbq pizza, kids cheeseburger & ahi taco were all fairly good. Our waiter made a slight bit of an error whilst taking our order but it's only human to make mistakes. All went well, the food was great with the exception that the kitchen served my ahi tuna raw as opposed to rare in one taco which was definitely a surprise to bite into it and feel the gummy flesh texture. The other taco was bomb though so I wasn't upset as the kitchen wouldn't be able to tell if they seared it fast. I have a gluten allergy and told our waiter of such he ensured that what I ordered did not contain gluten. It didn't I went an entire day without any stomach issues. He was attentive and checked on our table often. We tipped over 25% Ambiance: the place was crowded and overpacked so is a popular spot. The wait time is always less than they indicate. The design of being indoors but open ceiling gaps & shutters for windows is nice. It was not nice to drink from a cup and see hard water residue that you could wipe off with your finger caked onto the inside of the cup where the liquid you drink is touching. A white vinegar rag should be kept with whoever is in charge of dishes because that was nasty. 5 out of 6 cups on the table were like that. Overall I would recommend this place just be certain you inspect your utensils/ drink ware.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
When in Rome! My husband and I stopped in here for some drinks. I was pretty impressed with their beer selections, and if it were cooler outside I would've opted for some darker beers. The Orange Ave Whit was so so good! I love heavy yeast beers and this was it. I wish we got this beer in South Texas. Definitely a place to checkout for a drink- they have half pours if you're not in a heavy drinking mood. The restaurant is also open air, so you still get a nice breeze without being on the small patio.
google avatar

Regine A.

Yelp
You can never go wrong with eating at Coronado brewing. Drink some of San Diego's best brew here. The food stands out as well. Surprisingly enjoyed the meat lovers flat bread pizza the most! Hot chicken tenders were good, not great. The chicken was slightly over cooked and a bit chewy, but I loved the hot sauce. It was vinegar-y with a mild spicy kick. Kids fish and chips was the perfect meal for our little one. She enjoyed the soft and freshness of the fish. Service was good even especially with how busy it was. Ambiance is loud. There were a lot of flies flying around us and our food even though we ate inside :( fortunately they left a laminated drink menu at our table and I used it to show the flies away. Other than that - I love this place!
google avatar

Vicki K.

Yelp
Cool vibe location with indoor and outdoor seating. Limited bar seating but some patrons stand and watch the sports on the numerous large screen TV's. Go at happy hour beer/wines are discounted and pub specials are 25% off. I had the pub special of fish & chips. Lots of flavor and plenty of food. On this visit the hostess was fantastic engaging and very accommodating. My server didn't rush me to eat in order to turnover the table. This location is kid friendly with a good selection of kid meals.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
The beer and food was good. We ordered a pizza, their Mac and cheese, their harvest salad, and a pretzel. The salad and pizza was delicious. However my son did not really like or finish the Mac and cheese. They have a great beer selection and the waitstaff were very friendly. Overall, we had a good experience and will definitely go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I was immediately greeted with tons of pets and immediately upon being seating a cold bowl of water arrived which was very refreshing on this summer day! this is a favorite stop on our way to Coronado Dog Beach. sitting on the Patio watching dogs and humans stroll by was very fun for me. will drag the humans here again for sure!
google avatar

Josie W.

Yelp
Well the only thing I've tried so far is their cider and it is complete crap, someone needs to go to England and experience what real cider taste like. Yours just taste like beer with flavoring.. I'll try some other stuff but I'm not a beer drinker, so I was looking forward to some good cider.
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
I can only speak to the service at the bar, ambiance and merch for sale. We didn't dine here but we walked around inside and purchased a bunch of items as keepsakes: magnets, a jacket, sticker, etc. I was impressed with the menu - something to please everyone and the food I saw while walking around looked very good. They have a large bar, a nice expansive inside seating area with a cozy fireplace and nice decor, and a nice patio as well. Bartenders rang us up and were really nice. We plan to come back and try them for lunch or dinner soon!
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
It's been a min since I was last here but I was a really big craft connoisseur then. This was how the flight of beers used to come in. They used to come in actual shot glasses. Maybe my review will help boost the rating. The beers are good quality. Their IPA's aren't too hoppy. The orange was my favorite. Smooth and light, a good beer for relaxing in Cali. I would say if you're a fan of craft beer, you owe it to yourself to try this place if you're ever in the area.

Eileen K.

Yelp
Friendly, quick service. So many delicious food options. Great beer options all made by the Brewery.
google avatar

Yash T.

Yelp
TLDR: Great selection of beer, friendly servers and pretty setting close to the water front in Coronado Coronado brewing came in highly recommended by our friends while we were visiting San Diego. The Coronado island waterfront makes for a wonderful evening walk by the river before or after enjoying a nice selection of beers at Coronado Brewing. The food was good and had a good selections of beer to adress different beer preferences. This gets busy on weekends so just be aware that their might be wait times.
google avatar

Valerie F.

Yelp
What a nice spot that's a bit out of the way from the main area where most people go. I liked the chill vibe, great and quick service, and the tasty food/beer. Perfect for a little lunch stop. I got the fish and chips which was not traditional per se, but it was delicious with the garlic fries and yummy tartar sauce. Local brew was refreshing.

Terri B.

Yelp
Great Happy Hour and the bartender was fun and helpful - made suggestions that we took and were delicious! Fish tacos were excellent and atmosphere was casual and comfortable. Will return when on Coronado Island!
google avatar

Yelp
As an out of towner, this was one of the most highly suggested places to visit on Coronado. And it definitely lived up to the hype. The vibe was a beachy brewery, which fit perfectly for its location. The beer options were numerous including two NA beers by Figueroa Mountain Brewing. As a previous drinker who loves the atmosphere of breweries, I was thrilled to see those NA options. I selected the Blonde Ale which was absolutely delicious! We only ordered an appetizer due to having a dinner reservation later in the day. The spinach artichoke dip was to die for. Honestly the best spinach artichoke dip I've ever had. It was so good that we forgot to take a picture of it. Highly recommend stopping here for a beer and a bite to eat.

Yelp
Came here for the first time over the weekend after our soccer tournament. The wait wasn't long and the food was delicious. The location wasn't too loud, so we were all able to talk without having to yell - which was appreciative. The kids even liked the pizzas and devoured them! Will be back. Maybe next time, without the kids! haha

Yelp
This place is in a great location. Steps from the beach and local boutiques. Parking is hit or miss so be prepared. There is a small lot in the back and street parking within the neighborhoods. It was relatively busy when we arrived. They have a bar area and plenty of tables for seating. We were seated promptly. They were out of a majority of the beers we were interested in trying but we made it work. We ordered the coconut calamari, it was average. Not very crispy or flavorful. We ordered a handful of entrees, the fish n chips was decent size but overloaded with fries and very little fish. The Cajun shrimp tacos were very flavorful would highly recommend. My order unfortunately had hair inside. The waiter quickly got the issue resolved and a fresh plate brought out in minutes. The Serrano bacon burger came highly recommended from friends. They were very happy with it, as well as the spicy chicken sandwich. All in all it was a decent experience.

Yelp
*** Original visit was on 12/16/2023 *** Not sure why they have 3.5 stars?? The wait was short, only 20 minutes. We had great service from our server, and our food and drinks came out promptly. It's super cozy in there, very spacious and warm with a fireplace. Not super loud ever, just a nice place to sit down and have a meal. They have a good menu that could please everyone. We ordered: 1x blueberry ginger beer 1x buffalo chicken bites 1x nachos 1x Coronado pub burger w/ Caesar salad as the side The ginger beer was okay, it was VERY ginger flavored, as expected but was a bit much for me lol. The server did tell me in advance it would be like that though. The buffalo chicken was sooo good, and the sauce wasn't too spicy. We got HOT. The nachos were great, could have used a bit more cheese but overall very flavorful and well balanced. The burger was great, and their Caesar salad is one of my favorites. I have come here multiple times and I will always come back!!
