Best Pizzas in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, North Carolina - Eater Carolinas

"Chef Teddy Diggs (formerly of Il Palio Ristorante in Chapel Hill’s Siena Hotel) operates what he claims to be the first Roman-style pizzeria in the South. Roman-style dough is rolled very thin, with low-moisture and the addition of olive oil for an almost cracker-like crunch. Pizzas are served European-style (read: unsliced) and hew to traditional Italian flavors like the marinara, funghi, or rossa (raw crushed tomato sauce, provolone and mozzarella, Sicilian oregano, shaved soppressata, Taggiasca olives and pickled hot peppers). Roman pan pizza is also on offer, as is a Sunday-Thursday family special that includes three pizzas, one Coronato chopped salad, six suppli Romana (crispy rice croquettes), and six Sicilian cannoli for $65." - Matt Lardie

Really loved the pizzas here!! Went here for a dinner with friends on a weekend, we did not make a reservation but we found a table quickly. The service was very good and they made sure they explained the menu. The drinks menu is pretty amazing - i recommend their kombucha. The garlic knots with house made ranch was a good appetizer. We tried their Funghi, Teddys fav and Caprina. My favourite was the Teddys fav. I loved their pizza base and cheese and this makes it one of my favourite pizzas places.

Google
What a great experience! Solid new restaurant for pizza for sure. Food was delicious, the service was fast and friendly, definitely well worth the cost. Right now, they have a 3 course tasting menu that we went for last night. It was just right. It starts you out with a choice of fried or fresh appetizer. We got the falafel and fritti to try. Both were delicious, not too much, delicately fried. The pizza was up next. Both of our pies were great. She got the il Verde and I got the capricciosa. Both were fantastic. Crust was crispy, toppings were fresh and the amount just right. Mine was definitely wild but I loved it. If you love meats and runny eggs on your pizza, go for it. Definitely opt for the Chile oil. Desserts were fantastic. I got their take on a tiramisu, it was pretty great. She got the bamboloni, those things were killer, I could eat a pile of those alone. I would go to a store and buy a dozen of those things right now. We didn't get pictures of the desserts but they were not very big and very worth it. Portion sizes were just right all the way through. They have liquor, beer and wine. Great choices are on tap and bottle. We got a bottle of wine that wasn't expensive but still pretty good (Nero d'Avola). It's hard to find good restaurants around here, and this is one of them. We will definitely be back.

Google
Phenomenal small pizza restaurant that has some great small dishes (would live to eventually try the suppli, gnocchi alla romana, etc). We had marinated olives and a wonderful radicchio salad. The pizzas were also terrific and we had a funghi pizza and special escarole and Italian sausage pizza. The crust was super crunchy and extremely thin which is rather different from the neapolitan style pizzas which are a hair thicker with a note robust crust. We'r also had a wonderful Primitivo wine with our meal, but they have some nice beer and draft alcohol (prosecco, negronis) and handmade cocktails. Convenient parking with a nice lot. Definitely will be back!

Saw them on Instagram and knew I needed to check this place out. I was out with my family and we tried to go to a few other places, but we couldn't get a seat for over an hour. When we pulled in to Coronato we were able to get a table imediately. We shared a bag of fries for the table, and everyone got the Rome Tasting menu. The food was fresh and delicious. If you're looking for a new place for tasty pizza, look no further.

Google
WOW. If I have to summarize my visit in one word that’s the only one I could choose. I drive past this shopping center most days, and the building has kept me in suspense, but to be honest the new pizzeria didn’t particularly attract me. While I always enjoy visiting new restaurants, I already have my area pizza favorites and go-to’s selected. To be honest, glancing at the menu the prices seemed a bit high to this student. The price turned out to be absolutely worth it. I stopped by on a whim after walking the shopping center. Despite it being 5ish on a Thursday the place quickly filled up, not enough to make tables a commodity, but enough that it seemed unusual given the day and time. We got the meatballs, suppli, four cheese pizza and the tiramisu. The meatballs were by far the best I’ve ever had. Never before had a meatball basically melted in my mouth. I tend to stay away from ricotta as the times I’ve had it I find the texture grainy, but the ricotta that came with the lamb meatballs was lighter and smoother than sour cream. It was a fantastic combination of flavors, between the ricotta, the lamb meatballs, the mint and the tomato based sauce. The suppli too was great. I wasn’t sure what it was, but it’s very similar to arancini and we absolutely enjoyed it. We chose the special suppli that had various mushrooms and the aroma of the mushrooms somehow made it through the cheese and rice. It was fantastic. By that point we were full since we’d stopped by unexpectedly and weren’t quite hungry. We took the pizza and the tiramisu home. Both were every bit as fantastic as the dishes before it. The four cheese pizza was thin and crispy, the cheeses strong. It had some ingredient we couldn’t put our finger on that made it seem different from other four cheese pizzas we’d had before, but in an absolutely positive way. I tend to get simpler pizzas such as margherita or four cheese because I find that it gives me a better sense of the ingredients, and this one did not disappoint. Finally, the tiramisu was strong enough that even as a certified fan of anything sweet, I had to share and only ate half. The bitter cocoa, crunchy base and orange liquor made it a superb tiramisu. This came to around $54 with tip, though we only drank water. The service was as good as the food. The atmosphere was pleasant and everyone super attentive. It’s somewhat unusual to order so many different things at a new place and find every single one of them delicious and faultless. I can already tell that we’ll return often.

Google
WOW ! WOW ! WOW ! Best pizza ever. My husband and I wanted to try a new place. We had the olives, a arugula salad, & the mushroom pizza. It was the BEST pizza I ever had. The help had personality, intelligence, and knew the menu. CONGRATULATIONS ! to the owners. ps... votive candles on the table would add to the atmosphere.

Google
Wow, just wow! This new Roman pizzeria is just fantastic. My husband and I have already been twice since opening. We love the falafel and suppli for snacks, and the il Verde is definitely one of the highlights on the pizza menu - it has charred broccoli! Don't miss the tiramisu and bomboloni for dessert. Highly recommend!

Google
1st time at Coronato. We weren’t disappointed. Staff was attentive and helpful (on the ball) and pizzas were delicious. We hope to go back to try other items on the menu, but we really wanted to check out the thin crust pizzas. I really liked the decor. Clean modern look.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Coronato Pizza while looking for dinner in the area - on where else but Yelp! The pictures and menu enticed me and I was pleased to see several restaurants, plus a brewery I hadn't seen before in the same area. Our server, Stephanie, was super upbeat and welcoming! She explained a bit about the restaurant and the style of food they prepare which is always appreciated. I like knowing the inspiration and culture behind the food! In this case, the chef is serving up Roman style dishes in the triangle! The pizza will have a bit of a char on the bottom, super crispy thin crust, cooked to perfection in a wood fired oven. We started out with a few appetizers! I enjoyed all of them but the za'atar chips were my least favorite. They were still good, but the other two were just a lot better! I wasn't crazy about the seasoning paired with the dip. The garlic knots, however were AMAZING. They were kind of miniature, which allowed them to get crispy and they were perfectly bite sized, topped with a mountain of fresh grated cheese paired with a delicious, warm marinara. Also a star of the starters, the suppli Romana! This was very reminiscent of Arancini. It looked like a mozzarella stick, but it was full of tender rice, that yummy marinara, and tons of cheese! On to the pies! We opted for the potato pie which had a nice crisp crust, garlic, fresh cheese and potatoes with some fragrant rosemary. Overall such a solid pizza! It was definitely quality ingredients! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Surrounding 5/5: Located in Carrboro, in a new convenient plaza with ample parking. The inside of the restaurant is very pretty and clean. Appetizer 2/5 : For our appetizer we ordered prosciutto with dates. This was one of the daily specials that the waitress told us about, and was written on the wall. Unfortunately, this appetizer felt flat. The prosciutto was obviously prepackaged, and it was placed very lazy onto the plate, without even being separated. You can tell they took it right out of the package and right onto the plate didn't even have the detail to separate the individual pieces. In addition, the edges of the prosciutto were dry and brittle, indicating that it has been refrigerated for a while or exposed. The dates were warmed up and were tasty. At least that was good. Pizza 3/5: we ordered a kids pie, a classic pie, and a sausage pie. The kids pie was enough for two children and even though they build these pies as ones that could be eaten alone they are pretty good for two people. The pizza was very oily, and it was actually dripping off the slices. We had to take napkins to dab the top of all the pizzas. When we asked the waitress about it, she did say that they drizzle the pizzas with olive oil, and next time we can ask for them not to do it. We wish we knew that before hand. Otherwise, the pizzas were very tasty and enjoyable. The crust was thin and crispy and the presentation was nice. Definitely looks good! Pizza had a little flop towards the middle and end of the slice. We really wanted to like this place and I think if there wasn't olive oil drizzled all over the top of the pizzas, we would've really enjoyed the pizzas a lot more. The appetizer as described before we were disappointed with because of a lack of attention to detail and carelessness of just slapping prepackaged prosciutto with all the slices still stuck together, like it is in the package and the sides being dry and brittle indicating it's been sitting around most likely in the refrigerator for a while. Service 5/5: The waitress was absolutely awesome, she had tons of energy and was very passionate about her job, and how she described the dishes and the pizza. I wish I knew her name to give her a shout out, she was definitely a bright spot for our dining experience.

Yelp
Really good pizza here, definitely leaning more towards the gourmet side. The service was a little slow (it seemed like they were understaffed) but the waiters definitely did their absolute best to cater to us. The pizza was surprisingly filling, and I really enjoyed the funghi one. I would definitely recommend the more adventurous pizzas on the menu. 5 stars for me!

Yelp
Coronato Pizza is the best pizza we've had in the Triangle yet. We loved this place. Not only was the food outstanding, but the service was as well. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for good pizza in the Triangle and, more specifically, the Carrboro-Chapel Hill area. Coronato opened in August 2019 in the still relatively-new South Green retail development in Carrboro, not far from downtown Chapel Hill. This is a casual, modern pizzeria and bar. It has a two-story dining room inside and mostly uncovered patio seating outside. It's not a huge place, but I think it's spacious enough. During our Friday dinner visit, the restaurant was comfortably busy with a steady stream of both dine-in and takeout customers. There was plenty of free parking in the smoothly-paved lot right in front of the restaurant. We sat on the patio and it was a fun, pleasant experience. My wife found Coronato on Yelp. It was highly-rated and the pictures of the food looked good. Here's what we got: Cocktails: * Bellini ($6) - peach puree, prosecco * Aperol Spritz ($5) - Aperol, prosecco, soda Salads and Snacks: * Burrata ($16) - fresh Italian burrata, Vera Luce Farm organic tomatoes, Taggiasca olives, traditional basil pesto, sea salt, "really good" extra virgin olive oil Pizza: * Funghi Pizza ($18) - roasted onions and mushrooms, fresh mozzarella and Taleggio cheese, torn parsley, lemon and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese * Sbagliata Pizza ($16) - mixed-up "Classica" with raw crushed tomato sauce, fresh basil, smoked mozzarella and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese * Potato Pizza ($16) - slow-roasted potato and garlic base with preserved lemon, Fontina, fresh mozzarella, Parmigiana, and rosemary From the cocktails to the pizzas, everything was great. There wasn't anything we were even slightly disappointed in. If I had to find something to nitpick, it would be the presentation of the Bellini. A Bellini is normally served in a champagne flute, but ours was served in a glass. While the presentation was underwhelming, the drink itself tasted wonderfully peachy with a satisfying fizz. Unlike the Bellini, the Aperol Spritz looked amazing. Both drinks utilized reusable gold straws. The Aperol Spritz had crushed ice and a ripe orange slice. This was another fruity, sparkling cocktail that was cold, refreshing, and not too sweet. As someone who loves burrata and orders it often, I thought Coronato's Burrata was excellent. It was fresh and high quality. Vera Luce Farm, where the tomatoes came from, is located in nearby Hillsborough. The farm specializes in Italian and Southern European vegetables. Pretty cool. The tomatoes tasted super fresh. My wife still thinks about how sweet and tender the tomatoes were. For as much burrata as I've eaten, I think this was my first time having it with pesto. The pesto was placed beneath the burrata. They worked really well together. In short, this dish was magical. Of the three pizzas we tried, our favorite was the Funghi (white pizza). For me, the Funghi was followed by the Sbagliata and then the Potato. My wife liked the Sbagliata (red pizza) and Potato (white) pizzas equally. At the end of the day, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these. We both love mushrooms so the Funghi was a natural choice for us. The pizza was incredibly delectable, especially with all the umami from the mushrooms. All of the pizzas were thin crust, Neapolitan style. The dough was chewy and scrumptious with the outer edges charred and crispy. The Sbagliata is a "mixed-up" version of Coronato's take on the classic Margherita pizza. The thing that made it different was the smoked mozzarella, the smoky flavor of which was very evident and unique. It had an extra depth of flavor compared to regular fresh mozzarella. As for the Potato Pizza, it was a recommendation from our sweet server Ava E. The potatoes added a creaminess to the pizza, the zesty lemon flavor was noticeable and enjoyable, and the rosemary added a terrific herby taste. In all, Coronato had 12 pizzas on the menu, one size only at 11 inches in diameter, priced at $12-18 each. They also had five Roman pan pizzas (most $26 or $28 each) along with over a dozen interesting Italian apps/sides like Mozzarella Fritti (fried mozzarella, $5) and tomato-braised Eggplant Meatballs ($12). They had a decent wine list plus beer, cider, and cocktails. Service was fantastic. Ava was our primary server. She had a really upbeat, positive attitude that elevated our dining experience. We were also seen by two other staff members who were cool and friendly as well. Everything we ordered came out in a reasonable amount of time. Inside, there were two all-gender restrooms in the back. The one I used was clean. "Coronato" is Italian for crown.

Yelp
We love the veganized Teddy's Fave pizza here at Coronato! We discovered Coronato during vegan restaurant week this year. They can make any of their pizzas vegan if you ask. Their homemade vegan ricotta is to die for! The Teddy's fave: marinara, fancy olives, red onions, Coronato's delightful vegan ricotta, and arugula on the side. Coronato will make your pizza most-of-the-way cooked with instructions to heat it up at home for a few minutes. We have only ordered carry-out but I believe that they recently re-opened their dining room for eat-in. They have been taking the pandemic very seriously which we very much appreciate!

Yelp
Coronato Pizza is good pizza, but a bit overpriced. I would definitely recommend trying it if you enjoy good woodfired pizza, but it's not quite as good as Napoli. The ingredients were all fresh and flavorful, but the size of the pizzas is on the smaller, gourmet style side.

Yelp
Best vegan cheese pizza ever! Altho dining is closed, worth the take out. They had to close dining not their fault! Keeping everyone safe

Yelp
While in town, our family ordered pizza from here and it was delicious! We had several different types and while I didn't try each one, everyone raved about the taste, the amount of toppings, the sauce ... seriously, it is really good pizza. And, they have a health score of 100!! That's impressive!

Yelp
So, I've been ordering pizzas from Coronato for a few years now and it just occurred to me that I've failed to ever give them a proper review. Pizza places are so ubiquitous that it can be difficult to stand out among the crowd, but Coronato delivers (okay, not THAT kind of delivers... you'll have to pick it up for take-out or dine in, seriously). Their pizzas are a fresh, clean take on the classics with some fresh introductions of ingredients you may not have considered, pizza-esque. If you just want a quick gnosh; I highly recommend their garlic knots paired with Mozzarella Fritti or, if you need a substantial meal; get a take-out of their Roman Pan pizzas... seriously; it's a big meal! get it... meal/deal... oh never mind. Bonus that you can have some beers at the brewery a few doors down and they will bring your pizza to you! Best of Carrboro!

Tasha D.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch while in the area, not knowing what to expect. The food was good - we had the olives and salad for an app and the funghi pizza; all of the food tasted fresh and the portions were decent. Drink options are a bit unusual, we ended up trying one of the home-made mocktails, it was tasty but not worth the $. Overall, the restaurant was very quiet, and had both indoor and outdoor seating. It is clean and modern with simple decorations. The experience felt a bit awkward; staff were friendly -- and I appreciate attentive service, but it felt like they were hounding or breathing down our necks. Both the waitresses and cook were either staring at us, or checking in every minutes, which made it difficult to relax. It was also so quiet inside that talking felt weird, as we were the only voices and staff were standing over us or just feet away, listening. Perhaps if it were a busier the environment it would've been better, but felt like we were in a fishbowl. I'd recommend takeout over a dine-in experience.

Yelp
They permanently closed the dining room after covid which was just odd. Then they converted it to a pickup only situation but with a bizarre and awkward setup. They don't call you or text you or anything when you place an order you're just supposed to show up when they say it's going to be ready in like over an hour when you get there they asked me if my name was like three different names instead of just asking me what my name was and grab my pizza they wondered around and grabbed another peoples pizzas and just looking at things really randomly, then I finally said "hey, is that my pizza?" and she was like yeah I guess that's your pizza if your name is Aaron and I was like thanks and then I came home and the pizza is cold and not cut and there's a sticker on it that says the pizza is best, if reheated. Like what the hell? Make it hot and text me when it's ready!

Yelp
Unfortunately I haven't tried your pizza, but it looks delicious. If you do reopen we'll have to make the drive over . Clayton could use you .

Yelp
The pizza is amazing! The service is always friendly and knowledgeable! Atmosphere is comfortable and open. Only wish is more beer/drink options.

Yelp
When it comes to pizza, count me in! I'll eat it all but was curious about Coronato Pizza's focus on Roman-style za. And after two dinner visits I can say that it's a strong alternative to Neapolitan pizza but probably not my fave. First things first, if you visit Coronato you'll find it in a new and quiet shopping center off of S. Greensboro Street. Inside the space is a bit bare but modern with a corner bar and smaller tables scattered about. There's also a 2nd floor landing but I have yet to check things out upstairs. The menu at Coronato is very focused, a handful of starters, salads, along with the classic Roman-style pies. I've done the suppli (fried rice snacks similar to arancini), lamb meatballs, pizzas and more. Standouts to me are the meatballs and the tomato-base pies. The crust at Coronato pizza is quite crisp and for some pizza lovers, a plus. I actually prefer the softer crust of a Neapolitan but for each his/her own. The toppings at Coronato are high-quality as they should be given the price points. And everything is obviously sent out from a talented kitchen. Overall I like what Coronato's trying to do, even if it's not my favorite style of pizza. It stays true to its Italian roots albeit in a somewhat bare space and you do pay for the quality. Definitely worth a visit, but given its location, you'll have to take the party elsewhere if you want more than dinner!

Stephanie T.

Yelp
We were here for soccer camp and I decided to order pizza and dessert to go. The garlic knots are good. I had the funghi pizza and my daughter just had the kids cheese pizza with added goat cheese. It was pretty good. She had the cannolis and I had the tiramisu. The tiramisu is to..die...for!!

Yelp
After walking 8 miles my friends and I were starving and this was the perfect comfort pizza! It was pretty busy so we had a little wait but it was ok because we grabbed something to drink to pass the time. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Definitely will be going back!

David H.

Yelp
Pizza is great so are the bread knots, but good luck catching them making the thin crust. Seems like they are always closing early or have other problems. Not sure how they stay in business. I e given up trying to order from them.

Yelp
This place is great! Delicious food, great service, and good drink options (both alcoholic & not). The pizza is thin crust with delicious toppings. The arugula salad was simple yet delicious. Food came out fast & staff were lovely. Inside & outside seating & takeout available.

Yelp
Sitting at Craftboro and wanted some food. Our waitress highly recommended the Coronato next door. Glad she did because it was amazing! The garlic knots are tiny crisp like popcorn, so good! We had the Classico pizza, crisp thin crust with super fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil. Definitely recommend giving this place a try, free delivery if you are at Craftboro.

Yelp
I heard about this restaurant while reading an article about pizza in Indy Week, and I bookmarked the article for the next time I was in the Carrborro area. I was intrigued by Roman-style pizza, as this is very uncommon...outside of Rome. The restaurant is in a new, clean strip mall-type building on the outskirts of Carrborro. I was greeted by a very friendly hostess and waitress, and I was immediately comfortable - especially considering I was awkwardly eating by myself. I started with the spicy olives, and they were great - spice without the burn. I then ordered Ted's Fave - a Vegan pie that is the owner's favorite. I'm not Vegan, but the toppings including arugula grabbed my attention. It was very good, but the Roman crust was the highlight for me. It's much different than your typical thin-crust pizza - more of a tasty dough-cracker combination. While talking with my waitress - a student at UNC - I learned that the owner takes his pizza very seriously. I think it shows, as he taught the waitress all about the type, the sourcing and the history of the ingredients. I then ordered the "Classic" (stupid Yelp autocorrect prevents me from spelling it correctly) for takeout for my family, as they needed to eat too! I paid the bill, and I was unhappy that my ice tea (which tasted awesome - can't remember the nice flavors it had in it) was priced by the glass. Reminded me of growing up the Northeast! So I paid $13.50 on ice tea during my dinner - ridiculous - and I still give this place my highest rating! Here's something else to know: I'm a big eater, and decided to have a slice of my takeout cheese on the drive home to Raleigh. The takeout pizza is not Roman-style, but is billed as a "Roman Deep Dish." I'm a seasoned pizza eater, but I'm not an expert. I thought it resembled "Detroit-style" pizza, and I thought it was awesome. While I liked the Roman-style, I'm partial to more crust, and thought it was even better. The family liked it too, but thought it was a little small - especially after I robbed a slice Coronato Pizza is upscale pizza. A bit pricey. Just get comfortable with the prices before you eat there, and you'll leave thinking you had a great experience from a restaurant that really cares about excellent pizza.

Yelp
Great addition to the local pizza scene. Don't pass on the appetizers when you go. The suppli (tomato risotto mozzarella croquettes) are delicious. Also, the pickled vegetables are very well done. I like the Roman-style pizza idea (thin cracker-like crust). It is unique for the area. Still, the crust could use a bit more flavor in my opinion. Maybe a longer ferment time for the dough? I've had several of the pies, but my favorite is the Funghi. I like it with a side of warm marinara. So good! An added bonus is that you can sit next door at the huge outdoor tables of Craftboro Brewery and get your pizza delivered to you there--although Coronato has a great drink menu as well. Haven't tried the pan pizzas yet, but hope to soon, as well as the desserts. Looking forward to them offering indoor dining again soon and hope they follow the lead of other area restaurants and remove the mask requirement for their serving staff.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in North Carolina. When you eat Coronato pizza and appetizers you would never want other pizzas. I had my favorite pizza with mushrooms and Teddy thick crust vegan ricotta cheese pizza . I also had a new item that had pineapple on it and this was so delicious now I can say " I love pineapple on my pizza" . Teddy we are thankful to all your kindness making these delicious food for the community and I don't live in NC as a visitor I am always looking forward eating at your restaurant! Thank you for supporting the local farmers and bringing true Italian food in the local community!

Yelp
This is some pretty great pizza. My wife and I love to hang out at Craftboro and order our eats from Coronato. The staff is beyond friendly. I don't know what they call it, but they've got a pizza with potatoes on it that is AMAZING!

Yelp
This was my second-to-last meal out before the quarantine - it was right before everyone stopped serving, so it was pretty sparse. Service was friendly and attentive. We got two pies - my 15-year-old got a classica, as close to a margherita as they had - and I got a carbonara, which was excellent. We also just did coronavirus take-out and they did a good job they have you call when you arrive, and they bring it out to your car. We got a mushroom pie and another classica, plus a good salad with nuts and shit. Overall verdict is that the pizza isn't as good as Mercato but it's still very good, plus they're running the takeout process well. 4.5 *'s rounding up.

Bex M.

Yelp
so glad we found this spot. if you're looking for a pizza place that offers vegan cheese -- this is the one! their vegan ricotta is amazing and can be subbed on any of their pizzas. friendly service and good prices! coronato is our go-to takeout pizza now.

Yelp
Awesome pizza - very tasty but fairly heavy, so be warned. Definitely gourmet level here with quality ingredients and flavor combos. Likely best pizza in the area - I'll be ordering from here again.

Maura S.

Yelp
Best pepperoni pizza in town! And eggplant meatballs can't be beat. This place was a godsend during the worst of the pandemic. Curbside delivery always comes with a smile, and the occasional special dinner menus are outstanding.

Yelp
First time to Coronato, and we dived right in. Four of us split a Radicchio salad piled high with parm and the Lamb meatballs with ricotta, which were excellent. We also had the Funghi pizza (with a healthy pile of added arugula), Rossa pizza, and Classico (with anchovies). The Funghi in particular was excellent. Two pizzas would have been plenty. The lemon-ricotta bomboloni were delicious - quite the sugar bomb. Yum! The only shortfall was the drink menu - a bit thin, and a bit expensive. Can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
Why go to Rome when you can get Roman style pizza right here in Carrboro! The crust makes all the difference. Everything is made in-house and chef Teddy Diggs has done a great job in ensuring that he keeps the ingredients fresh and local. The pizzas are Roman style (the crust is thin and is naturally fermented for 24 hours). The pizza is truly one of a kind and something that we have never tried before in the Triangle. Here's what I tried: Suppli Fava falafel Dough knots Il verde(crumbled broccoli pizza) Fungi (mushroom pizza) Everything we got was delicious, and my favorite was the mushroom pizza. It was packed with flavors and was so fresh! The rest of the menu also concentrates majorly on inspirations from Roman food. I personally love thin crust pizzas and Coronato is now one of my go-to places for great pizza. The space is beautifully decorated with plants and is located in a brand new shopping center in Carrboro.

Yelp
Great Pizza!! We ordered the Funghi and Spaghlita with Cannoli and it was all amazing - my kids loved it all too!!!! We'll definitely be back! Note: This was part of the Family Package they offer which saved me a lot of time thinking it through :)

Yelp
Lots to love here! My family tried Coronato this weekend after I was tipped off to its existence just before opening, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The space, while small, avoids feeling too crowded, though I had a few nitpicks with its layout. First, the use of chalkboards for menu items, while cute, was tough to navigate. I couldn't read the specials board because tall patrons were sitting at the bar, and I didn't even notice the cocktail menu until I stood up to take my son to the bathroom. So, more prominent placement or a tip from staff would help with those (and would have added $20 to our bill). Second, it struck me as a bit odd that the only things on tap were a cider and prosecco; I expected to find Peroni and thus disappointed myself vis-à-vis my imaginary expectations. The drink list just felt a little try-hard to me, what with the La Croix and the lack of any sort of lager. I loved all the plants throughout the space, and thought it gave a really lovely feel to the room, but my husband and son totally disagree with me, here, and felt that the floor plants were tough to navigate and intrusive. For dinner, we had a Classica and an Americano, preceded by an order of the fried dough knots. Again, my lack of reading comprehension caught up with me as I was surprised to find the dough knots little and crunchy. (I know, "fried.") I personally prefer a big gooey garlic knot, so I doubt I'll order those again, and will instead try the lamb meatballs, which came to the table beside us and looked/smelled AMAZING. The pizzas were truly delicious. The crust was perfectly charred and cracked when lifted. The sauce was incredible - normally, I don't even notice sauce (except to hate it) as anything other than a vehicle for my cheese, but this was so wonderful that I commented on it pretty much every bite. Loved it. LOVED IT. It was perfectly balanced, with the right amounts of salt and acid, and I would run away with it if it asked. Two pizzas, dough knots, and a kid's milk ran about $45 before tip. Also - what's upstairs????? I wanna know.

Yelp
Love that's there's a new pizza place in town, alla Roman style. Enjoyed the saltiness of the caciocavallo cheese, the crunchy-gooey assorted fritti and fried stuffed olives. The raddichio salad was a welcome change from arugula or mixed greens. We chose the fungi pizza, balanced with carmelized onions and taleggio cheese. Menu is simple. Glad we slipped in before 6 on a Friday night, because, yes, people were waiting for tables to free up after that. And how crazy is it that I already know what I'll order next time!

Yelp
Perfect place to grab some unique appetizers and thin crust pizza with creative toppings

Yelp
I'm usually not one to spend a lot of money on pizza and I'll probably never be but that said, this was a the most delicious margherita pizza I've ever had. I'd definitely get it again sometime but it's too expensive to enjoy more than occasionally. But if you've got the bucks, it's definitely worth trying. Not a huge selection but there are a few Vegetarian items for non-meat eaters.

Yelp
All of the different pizzas and appetizers were deliciouw. The service was also phenomenal and the staff were very kind.

Yelp
Terrific pizza, salads, and cannolis! The pizza at Coronato is delicious. We've ordered from them several times and the quality has been consistently excellent. The potato pizza is a must, and their summer tomato is our favorite. The chopped salad is flavorful and hearty for a salad, and could easily feed two on its own. The cannoli are also good, with a light citron flavor in the filling that is well balanced. But the family favorite is the Suppli Romana appetizer. Those are just too good. Service has been excellent, with online ordering and curbside pickup. This is our new go-to pizza place, highly recommended.

Yelp
Roman pan pepperoni pizza is the only way to go! We've gotten their regular pizzas and they don't compare. Their hot honey drizzle is amazing!

Yelp
Pretty OK, kind of like a frozen pizza but a bit more expensive. Highly recommend adding ranch to the pizza to give it some more flavor.

Yelp
Friendly service and one of the best pizzas I've ever tasted! My husband and I can't wait to try some other pizzas soon! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I have eaten here a few times and have really enjoyed my experience. All the pizzas are excellent with high quality ingredients and are flavorful. I particularly recommend the Americano pizza. I personally like the thinner crust (less refined carbs!). You can tell the owner is also very involved in the restaurant and its success, which is refreshing. Overall, I would rate the food five stars. The only downside is the pricing of the appetizers. The pizzas are priced similar to other gourmet options in the area, but the appetizers range $8-12, which is getting close to a pizza price. I am hoping the owner may consider offering 2 options: a half size and a full size appetizer price to offset this.

Yelp
If you're expecting the standard NY style pizza you're in for a surprise but also a treat. The crust was exceptional but the pizza itself (Capricciossa and Funghi) were even better. The only downside is the price is a little much considering it's pizza but 2 people can share an $18 pie and that's not bad when you think of it. Will definitely return.

Yelp
I've heard so many great things about this place that I had to try it and it did not disappoint. The fried dough knots are the best garlic knots in town! Also the smoked mozzarella pizza is truly heaven.

Yelp
Went to opening night of the latest artisanal pizza restaurant to open in Carrboro. Staff were excited and friendly. The space is sparse and that leads to really high level of noise (lots of 'what did you say?' at our table). Some noise abatement in the space would really help. The food: apps were tasty including the cacio de pepe fries and fried dough. Salads were well done. We tried several pizzas. The crust was nice and crispy however fairly across the board it seemed everything above the crust was a bit undercooked. A minute or so more in the oven to let the cheese melt would have helped. Red sauce was tasty but for one Classica (margarita) we had it was really salty for some reason. These pies are not cheap and to justify their prices and a drive past nearby Mercado and Napoli, which are also walker-friendly, will require an upgrade in quality and consistency of the pizza. Hoping this comes together for this newcomer.

Yelp
This place was more on the expensive side, but totally worth it for what you got. The creations are incredible. We love there are lots of vegan and vegetarian options. The almond ricotta is seriously incredible. They will charge $2 extra if you add it on a pizza, BUT if you are substituting they will swap out even which appeals to us as most other establishments do otherwise. AND just know this vegan ricotta is divine for real. Also for those who are gluten-free they will be having an option in the near future! Very happy to have this restaurant in Carrboro and can't wait to return :)

Yelp
PIZZA ALERT! Dough you know who's just opened a new pizza place in Carborro? Chef Teddy Diggs, pizza king extraordinaire has opened the doors to Coronato a few weeks ago, and the wife and me had to check them out! It's a brand new store in a storefront that is still developing but sure to be filled with other shops soon too. Coronato has a very cosy and lively atmosphere catering to families, couples or just a group of friends who want to hang out and enjoy a few drinks and some outrageously good pizza! We started off with the Fried Dough Knots, Suppli and Fava Falafel all of which were extremely well-made and not your usual appetizer in a Pizza place! The main event of course were the Pizzas, of which we got the Il Verde (crumbled and roasted broccoli) and the Funghi (various mushrooms). It's all about the dough though and you can certainly TASTE the difference between this and regular pizza! We loved the fact that most of the pizzas had vegetarian toppings, giving us choices aplenty! Definitely coming back for more pizza!

Yelp
If you haven't tried Coronato then y'all are sleeping on this spot. I first must admit that I am a self professed food connoisseur and total pizza snob, but Coronato blew my expectations out of the water. It is rare to find an establishment such as this- a true gem that is changing the narrative on pizza and service. My friends and I dined in on a Tuesday night and were greeted by the most pleasant young woman (Vivianne), who gave us the run down on how to access the menu and got us situated at a cozy table on their outside patio. Our server (Lewis) was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and gave lovely recommendations for bottles of wine (which they have an incredible deal on!) We pretty much ordered one of every appetizer on the menu for the table to share. The Coronato Chopped Salad is a godsend, and I chowed embarrassingly hard on the addictive pickled veggie plate. Check the photos I posted to see that sick cheese pull from the Suppli. Have you ever been to church? If not- then Holy mother of Pearl, that stuffed Arancini will take you there. It made me blush. And of course, we didn't stop there- it wouldn't be a true Coronato experience if we didn't order pizza- but you KNOW we did! We ordered a feature pie which was a play on my favourite pasta dish, Cacio e Pepe and a staple pie from their menu called the Ricotta. The Cacio e Pepe pie had a ridiculously creamy base flavoured beautifully with black pepper, very thinly sliced kale tossed in a lemon oil and tons of Pecorino on top. The Ricotta pie had the right flavour profiles just bursting beautifully in my mouth. I found out they add the ricotta and olives on after the pizza comes out of the oven to really elevate the soft, coolness of the ricotta and the saltiness of the olives. I wish I could have kissed every member of the kitchen staff who thoughtfully and artfully cooked and plated my meal. Just when I thought I had tasted it all, in waltzed the Tiramisu. Trust me, you will want to save room for this! It's not a traditional tiramisu, but one that rivals any I have ever tasted and shall haunt my dreams until I devour it again.. To think my night couldn't end more beautifully, we ordered a round of their house made Limoncello and whilst sipping it, I was taken back to a memory of a summer day on the beach in pre-Covid times. Look at you! You probably read this whole review, that literally took me 45 minutes to thoughtfully put in to words, and I've got your taste buds all worked up. So are you just going to take my word for it? Nah- get on over to Coronato and try it for yourself. Whatever this crew has got going on, you're gonna want a slice.

Yelp
I am mid meal right now but couldn't wait. Good pizza places are all over the place in Chapel Hill and Carrboro- but few that are truly great. I think we have finally found a great one. We got a classica (margherita) and funghi. The classica was perfect- great balance of crispy crust and soft cheese. The funghi was pure umami, fit for those who absolutely love mushrooms. Hope to keep coming back here for years to come. Welcome to NC, Coronato! No pics, because we ate it all.

Yelp
Service was very slow. No alcohol. Wrong food brought yo our table. Only come here if you have all night to wait for your food.

Yelp
We attended a cooking class at A Southern Season with the chef/owner and enjoyed what we had so we wanted to check out his new pizza shop. It's in an odd location in Carrboro (new shopping center with only 1-2 other tenants at this time) but worth seeking out. The atmosphere is very casual, with a bar and minimal, sleek furnishings. We had a suppli (think cheesy rice ball kind of like an arancini) and the special of the day -- smoked salmon pizza. Wow that was good! One pizza was a good size for two people to share. We didn't have room for dessert but the offerings looked tempting. Only reason I'm not giving five stars is because our waitress disappeared for stretches and we had to wait a while to get our check. I've seen other online comments along the lines of "Why does Carrboro need another pizza joint?" but they do a different, thinner-crust Roman pizza here and the chef has interesting topping combinations. Prices were reasonable as well. Give it a shot.

Yelp
I picked up pizzas to take out. When I got home I saw that the pizzas weren't sliced! I called them to ask for my money back on the card, as I don't have the correct kind of knife to slice pizza, and never expected them not to be sliced, and they wouldn't. They even told me there was a disclaimer on their website about the pizzas not being sliced if you order online, which was a complete lie. I checked at least four times and never saw a disclaimer. I had to slice them with a steak knife, which was a mess. They are the most unprofessional, uncaring restaurant in Carrboro. They are dishonest, greedy and lazy. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
