Corte Sconta

"From its flooring to its tables, this restaurant has the charming, nostalgic feel of a typical trattoria in its simple dining room, while the outdoor dining area in an inner courtyard under a vine-planted arbour is equally delightful in fine weather. Typical Venetian cuisine takes pride of place on the menu, including fish, seafood and the famous liver with onions." - Michelin Inspector

23 Best Restaurants in Venice

"Corte Sconta is a long-running Venetian stalwart that's much loved for its outside seating in a charming courtyard. The restaurant gives off the air of an upmarket local trattoria, but is, in fact, a favorite with sophisticated international travelers. The Corte Sconta classic is the seafood antipasto—a procession of super-fresh offerings, both raw and cooked—which in itself will sate all but the biggest appetites. If that doesn’t suffice, a competently prepared pasta al nero di seppia (squid ink) with mussels, a fresh, grilled fish, or a delicious tiramisu will set you right." - Anne Hanley

Middle of the road. Good, but not great. Eat here if it's convenient for you, but definitely not worth a large detour. Had the "classic" tasting menu. Menu was acceptable until the tuna - which was a pile of overcooked tuna cubes buried under katsuobushi. Had that dish been swapped out with another secondi dish, I would have given this 5 stars. Desert however, was wonderful. Definitely redeemed the tuna somewhat.

Google
What a charming Venetian spot! My partner especially liked the baked shrimp appetizer and I loved the zucchini scallop pasta. The fried seafood platter came with a variety of options and was lightly battered. Our server was lovely and the setting was beautiful and romantic.

Google
The food was magnificent: I had the seafood Ravioli with a delicious pumpkin sauce, followed by the Turbot which was butterscotch and cooked perfectly. Altogether a very pleasant culinary experience despite the rather high Venecian prices. We ate here in 2012 and wanted to see if it was still as good or if the quality had deteriorated as some reviews suggest. In my experience, it is still a top notch quality seafood restaurant!

Google
An interesting experience! We got to try a lot of new things, which we didn't always enjoy. The staff was friendly and attentive. It was definitely worth the visit. I'm glad I went.

Google
Delicious food and wine - we went for the tasting menu and it was a great way to try a bit of everything and the portions were very generous. One of our highlight meals in Venice.

Google
Great cozy Venetian Restaurant. Very organized, great people, great garden. The food is excellent, but make sure to leave lots of space for dessert, because that's where the magic starts 😀

Google
We had a great dinner here. I loved the croker fish as my main course - cooked perfectly and really tasty. My partner had the mackerel with jalapeno gazpacho and was amazed by the gazpacho. The atmosphere sitting outside in the courtyard garden was lovely.

Google
Absolutely incredible dinner at Corte Sconta! The steamed clams to start were delicate and full of flavor, followed by a stunning squid ink pasta that was rich and perfectly balanced. The mixed fried seafood was crispy, fresh, and not greasy at all – truly unforgettable. What made the evening even more special was the chef’s recommendation of a rare orange wine from Perugia – an unexpected but brilliant pairing that brought out the best in every dish. Hidden away from the tourist crowds, this place is a real gem. Intimate, authentic, and clearly led by people who love what they do. I’d go back in a heartbeat.🦭

Yelp
I was referred to this restaurant by a friend who had previously visited Venice. I will say that making a reservation (day of) was very easy to do online and the service was top notch. They were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions (gluten free and dairy free) and offered replacements for anything that I could not eat on the traditional menu. The back patio was very quiet and had a great ambiance. The only issue was that as soon as the sun went down, the mosquitoes came out in full force. I realize this is not their fault and they were very good about providing big spray to our table, but the mosquitoes were actually an extreme deterrent. We almost asked to move inside. The biggest reason for the 3-star rating is that he food was surprisingly bland. We ordered two appetizers, the tuna and the spider crab. The crab was tasty, but the tuna lacked flavor. For our first course, I ordered the pasta with scallops and mushrooms (very good!) and my friend ordered the zucchini flower pasta with prawns (extremely bland except for the prawns). For our second course, we ordered the fish of the day (sea bream). It was a well-cooked fish, but there was very little flavor or seasoning on it and the root vegetables were under-seasoned as well. For a Michelin Star rated restaurant, and one with a hefty bill at the end of the night, it was not worth it in my opinion. There are far more places in Venice with $15 pasta dishes that were larger, more filling, and much better. Sadly to say, I would pass on going back to this restaurant, even though the vibes and staff were great.

Yelp
selected by my high end travel agent. where the cool people eat. decor: grape vines hanging above, beautiful but also with leaves/bugs falling down. praying mantis shrimp are like little lobster tails, but I felt guilty eating a "family of 5" of them Their tuna dish is delicious! we devoured that service and presentation were good. though slow but I heard coming in that they were shorthanded and had to turn away any nonreservations.

Yelp
Food was very subpar. Very cute ambiance besides from the many mosquitos. Service was good. There are many more affordable and delicious restaurants in Venice, I'd skip this one!
google avatar

Jackson H.

Yelp
Menu looks promising but I would skip this one. Fish is OK. The grilled prawn skimpy and overcooked. The fried fish fritto misto is cooked in sunflower oil (not olive oil). Pasta dishes are meager. Side salad was fine. Tiramusu probably the worst I've had in Italy

Yelp
Sadly a hard miss. Our friend recommended. She is a restauranteur from Padua (restaurant in the Caribbean) and has always recommended. My partner dined here in 2016 and it was amazing. This past week, not so great. We made a res online. We arrived and were given a 4 top in a high traffic area. The lights above the tables are very bright. We went with the flow. The biggest issue was the surly head waiter who seemed annoyed with us. He was spotted rolling his eyes at an older customer. We ordered with some guidance from the server. The support waiter served us bread and cleared the table. He was very nice. We had to call for service (wine and water). One older man poured our wine and did not utter a word. On to the food; the swordfish carpaccio was excellent. Plating was artful. The baby clams came in a lovely broth. Heaven. The rest of the food and flavors fell short. We passed on dessert and as we left, not one person acknowledged us. Very unwelcoming and spotty surly service rates this a solid 3.

Yelp
Terrible service. We sat down and tried to order 4 glasses of wine and the selection of local cheeses but were told that wasn't enough for us to place an order... Very strange but between the attitude we were met with and the way the rude French woman who I assume was an owner or manager treated us, we couldn't wait to get out of there. Had a much better experience and dinner at alla fonte after leaving here.

Yelp
Now this is what I'm talking about - super sexy pasta in a super sexy city! Ok so everything was expensive in Venice and it's not somewhere I'd recommend taking a 2 year child to for the day (so many ups and downs with the buggy over the bridges...) but what they do well is the quality of the food and drink and with a good recommendation to go here we weren't disappointed. The black squid ink pasta with prawns was excellent and so was the fettuccine - really light, well cooked and lovely sauces. Also, if you're sharing with friend/partner then in advance they'll split it half and half (just check out my snaps... awesome!) Quite expensive at around 50 euros with bread, fizzy water and a little wine but well worth checking out.

Yelp
This place was fabulous. Try the fish sampler!! Super delicious and of the traditional venetian fare this is by far the best there is!!

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by my Airb&b host. A very nice restaurant which specializes in seafood. The atmosphere was excellent and the staff was very friendly. I arrived with my partner not quite sure what to expect and despite not having a reservation they were still able to find us a table and seat us promptly. The menu was expansive with many options to choose from, as was the wine list. We started with a swordfish appetizer. For the main course I had the Turbot fillet and my partner had the Venetian style Tuna. We also ordered a salad to share and a small bottle of wine. To finish we shared a hazelnut dessert. All of the options we chose were very good. One issue I had was the bread. It was hard enough to use as building material. After my first taste I was done with it. The only other issue was the price to portion ratio. Everything (save for the bread) was very good but the portions were very small. Granted this trend is a common one I've found in many restaurants across Europe, however when I finished paying my bill I couldn't help but feel dissatisfied. I guess for 120+ Euro's I was expecting a little more. I suppose if anything at this particular location one pays for the experience of having a traditional Venetian fine dining experience in the heart of Venice.

James D.

Yelp
Pretty much the perfect fish restaurant in my opinion. Always fresh and always changing the menu, yet keeping the best dishes as standard! The service is polite and attentive. The wine list small, selective and well priced. The bread varied and very tasty. The decor simple and comfortable. The seafood linguine was insane, mussels, calamari, prawns. The tomatoes perfectly tart. The seafood gnocchi with seabass and swordfish sublime. A local sole main and fritti misti main were so well cooked it really ruins you for other places. It's a little pricey for this part of Venice but you get what you pay for. Couldn't recommend more.

Yelp
This restaurant was close to our hotel. Saw its good reviews and decided to give it a try. When we arrived, there were 2 couples that were walking in ahead of us. The funny part.. All of us were English speakers using our phones to find the restaurant which was located (no hidden) on one of Venice's many inner streets. Calle del Pestrin, Venezia I got a little worried when I heard the couples ahead of us had reservations. We didn't. To my surprise, the restaurant was able to seat us. Menu's, we ordered some pelligrino... Ready to go. A waiter (very nice) came to our table, greeted us and told us about that evenings specials. We explained we were short on time and heading to a concert. He asked about appetizers and other drinks. My wife ordered a glass of wine. The server indicated this was not offered. He spoke with a woman, I presume the owner who said she could order a glass of wine. The pour was a little on the light side. I doubt even 3oz. We ordered two entrees. We would have liked to try an appetizer, but sadly did not have the time. Her's was mushroom filled ravioli with a crab sauce. Mine was tuna Venetian style with sauteed onions and polenta. Her meal was pretty good, I tasted the ravioli. I think she got 6 of them. Mine was 4 large strips of polenta with the fish and onion in the center. I quickly discovered there was more polenta and onions than there was tuna. Was it flavorful, mostly yes. Did I get enough food. Just barely. The dishes came with no sides. We were asked to order vegetables earlier, but declined. For 25 euros per plate, I usually expect something green along with the food. Bread was provided, but olive oil & vinegar or butter was not. Can live without these items too. Funny thing about all restaurants in Venice. They charge a fee called "coperti". It's usually. 3-4 euros per person ( a sitting fee) and you will pay this regardless of how long you stay or what you buy. Think of it like renting the table. Buy a beer, pay coperti. Spend $125 euros and you will still pay this fee for each guest in your party. Not bad, just different than what most Americans are accustomed to. Would I go back. Maybe. While the service was adequate, the food, which is at least 50% of the reason for your visit was not memorable or extraordinary.

Donalynn S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were recommended to try this restaurant by our Airbnb host. I wish we didn't. The bread was old and hard as a rock. The fish didn't taste fresh to me. ( I live in Hawaii and know the difference) The food over all was alright. I felt we could have gotten a better meal elsewhere considering the price of the meal. The service was lovely and the atmosphere was pleasant. I really wish the food was better.

Yelp
I will not go back! This used to be one of my two favorite restaurants in Venice. This time we were a party of 7 and made a point to go twice during our stay. The first dinner was excellent as usual: great food, friendly service good wine recommendations. Sadly the second visit was a disaster. The clams were not as good, the pasta were over cooked and too salty. An off night in the kitchen happens everywhere but to add insult to injury the service was terrible as well. They only had one bottle left of our favorite Pino Nero and recommended another wine for our second bottle. The wine was not good and tasted oxidized. We ordered a third wine which was good but when the check arrived they had charged us for the three bottles. Despite our complaints they didn't budge and insisted on charging us. Terrible service, not commercial! Ciao!

Yelp
In my taxi ride to the hotel, I asked the taxi driver for a good place to eat in Mestre (which I initially thought would be deprived of quality places...). He pointed me to La Corte, which was some 5 minutes walk from my hotel. And oh boy, was he right ! The setting, with dim lighting, wooden furniture, the mezzainine, and the central fireplace, were fantastic ! The service itself is very nice and attentionate, without being overwhelmingly present. The food was amazing, too: I had the Gnocchi al ragu d'anatra, which was very tasty, yet not too heavy. My colleague on the other hand had some spaghetti alle vongole, which was really well cooked, very tasty, and still very much al dente !!! The first courses were so large, that we could barely taste those pizzas we had ordered as mains (remember, this is Italy...:o). Still, we took them away and had them the next day. They were delicious as well (Cappricciosa and Tris di Funghi...). I'm looking forward to go back to Mestre, be it only for the food in La Corte !!! Enjoy !!!

Yelp
We had an outstanding dinner of monkfish appetizer, black linguine seafood pasta with calamari/mussels and scappian fish with eggplant gnocchi pasta. The monkfish appetizer was generous in portion and beautifully presented. Elegant atmosphere and nice romantic dining spot. Service is terrific and attentive. Reservations are needed as the place was full due to reservations. We watched several walk-ins be turned away. Nice touch that each table had patron's name written on place card, and we were personally greeted by the owner Lucia.

Yelp
This place is all about the fish and boy do they know what they're doing. Just go with the mixed appetisers for two (about EUR 27 each) - it's three plates of amazing seafood, carpaccio of tuna / swordfish, prawns, roes, clams in ginger and lemon, dressed spider crab - utterly heavenly. Then the mixed Altantic plate of grilled fish and seafood to share. Skilfully filleted at your table, gamberoni, bass, sole, dory, monkfish etcetc. Bizarrely the other big surprise is the quality of the bread basket - really lovingly made of artisanal quality. This is a top notch meal and must be one if the best restaurants in Venice.

Yelp
A first class dining experience. Specializing in seafood and local delicacies this restaurant is for he sophisticated and adventurous palates. Superb cellar, great bar and wonderful spacious decor lens to a magical experience. Desserts are works of art and the bred and cheeses alone make it worth a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty expensive for what I thought was average seafood. Got upsold on the appetizer tasting menu (28 euro pp) in addition to sharing a seafood pasta. Could have just stuck with the tasting menu. Pasta didn't stand out, nor did any of the seafood apps other than a fish spread. 95 euro w a glass of wine each. Not worth it.

Yelp
It is a very nice restaurant at the heard of Venice. The speciality is local fish. The service is nice and friendly - they speak good English. The prices are a bit too high though.

Neal H.

Yelp
Great seafood, loved the sauted clams. Be sure to get a reservation because it can get really busy.

Yelp
Just a fabulous, authentic Venetian restaurant with very friendly staff and wonderful cuisine! This place has a warm, neighborhood feeling and an extensive choice of dishes for everyone's taste. If you want to experience real Venetian food and welcoming service, this is the place to go!

Yelp
Rated one of the best seafood restaurants in the world. Could very well be. €70/person including coperto, appetizers (get the sampler - it takes over 30 min and three changes of plates just to eat that, but none of it is huge or overfilling), Prosecco, wine, primi piatti shared three ways, three secondi piatti, two veggie dishes, one dolce and one espresso. We skipped the cheese course, but that looked magnify ine as well. Our 14 yo loved the food as well. Grazie per il personale e di gestione per una serata così straordinario.

Troy H.

Yelp
Amazing garden - seafood appetizers amazing - house made ravioli for our vegetarian was absolute delicious. Service top notch - server drove the entire meal at my request - fishes and wine pairings perfecto!

Yelp
Service was terrible. Food was just had bad. She order main course fish and had 2 bites and was full of bones. Told waiter in English and looked at us and walked away!! Go some where else!!! Told manager and owner and had huge attitude.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to discover this restaurant when it first opened in 1980 and since then I have been back about 15 times. It is still one of the best restaurants in Venice and my last meal a few days ago was just amazing as usual if not even better. Do yourself a favor and book a table here if you happen to be in Venice.

Yelp
WARNING: the location marked on Yelp's map may be wrong. If it's still marked on Sestiere Castello, north of the Arsenale, this is INCORRECT. If you go there, you'll be treated to one of the only truly depressing spots in Venice. The actual address is Calle Del Pestrin 3886, Castello, 30122 (you can verify on Google Map), which is just west of the Arsenale (150 meters west of the Lion of Piraeus to be exact). Getting lost in Venice is fun, but not when you're starving. Anyway, this place is definitely worth finding. The courtyard is lovely and the food was great. Try to make reservations far in advance. They couldn't fit us in for dinner at all during the week we were there, so we had to settle for lunch. The one negative was that after asking quite clearly for the check, the waiter took an inexplicably long time to get it to us. It was really more weird than anything.
google avatar

S G.

Yelp
The good was beyond delicious and fairly priced. Recommendations by the woman (I think an owner) were perfect!

Becca P.

Yelp
MMMMMMMM!!!!!! Found this in our travel guide, as a less touristy amazingly tasty fish option. Since Venice is incredibly difficult to find your way around on first visit, the bf and I decided to find this place in the day, so that at night we would be able to find the restaurant easily. Well, that almost worked. We visited about 4-5 enotecas before going to dinner here. We couldn't help it, we wanted to try everything! After arrival, we ordered a bottle of prosecco, the seafood appetizer sampler (some different choices that we never would have ordered- very good), and two pasta dishes. Everything was so fresh. It was our splurge dinner and well worth it! Would recommend to anyone in Venice!

Caleb S.

Yelp
Food and service are superb. Be careful about the directions on the map in yelp. The location is incorrect.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Our best meal in Venice. No comparison. Seafood appetizer for two is outrageously good!

Eleonore B.

Yelp
Unfortunately this restaurant is hit or miss. I went last week and it was good and tonight it was a big disappointment. The pasta was too salty but that can be an innocent mistake. On the other hand, our waiter highly recommended a second bottle of wine that the seven of us agreed was not good and most likely oxidized. When we told him, he took the bottle back and brought us a second bottle that we greatly enjoyed and drank. When they brought the check they charged us for the three bottles and said they didn't agree in a rude tone. The food is very important in a restaurant but so is service. Tonight the food was disappointing compared to the first time but the service was unacceptable!! Especially, might I add for a party of seven coming twice in the same week. We will not be coming back and if you're looking for an amazing meal in Venice with top notch service go to Antiche Carampane.

Shelly F.

Yelp
An incredible hidden gem. The concierge at the Danieli Hotel suggested we try a small, local seafood eatery nearby. After meandering a small side street, we entered a very lovely restaurant, and were greeted warmly by the owner, who ushered us to a table overlooking the outdoor garden. We proceeded to enjoy the best pasta and seafood dinner we have had in a long time. The dishes were traditional Venetian seafood, beautifully prepared. We would highly recommend and go back again.

Luke G.

Yelp
This place was a gem in Venice. It's located just behind the main canal - far enough that it had a lot of locals in it. The food was quite nice and fresh.

Howard S.

Yelp
Move over Le Bernardin, Trattoria Corte Sconta is by far the best fish restaurant in the world. This was our third time there, the first time in January 1999 and the second December 2004. The fabulous experiences we had at Trattoria Corte Sconta were so embedded in our minds that we decided to make a special five and a half hour train trip after our vacation in Naples to Venice to have dinner at Trattoria Corte Sconta. We were not disappointed. It was even better than ever. The owner, Lucia, oversees the entire operation and makes sure everything is absolutely perfect. She greets each individual and makes them feel like a guest. She gets a sense of what they like and even though you are presented with a menu she gives suggestions as to what you should have. Our dinner stared with their fabulous bread, a bottle of wonderful local wine and a plate of thinly sliced tuna, swordfish and fresh anchovies presented in a fan pattern with frizzie greens as the base. Lucia told us the order in which to eat this dish. We skipped the pasta dish. We were then shown a beautiful bass (one fish for the two of us) for approval and before we knew it we devoured this amazingly soft delicious and perfectly cooked fish. With all this wonderfulness the place is casual, comfortable and homey. I definitely hope we will have the opportunity to return and have another amazing experience. It is worth traveling from any part in the world to eat at Trattoria Corte Sconta.

Yelp
Our second visit. The food is excellent with emphasis on fish, but also has some vegetarian choices. The service is attentive and helpful. Definitely a popular neighborhood place for locals, but the menu is also in English. Lovely garden area in summer.
