Where To Eat Near NYC’s Music Venues

"The Farm on Adderley is about a 15-minute walk from King’s Theater, but it’s worth the commute for the seasonal American food and backyard. Start with the kale salad or share the cheese plate, and then get the burger, which comes with some fantastic fries. After a few very good cocktails here, you should anticipate an internal struggle to decide if you want to walk or take a car to the show." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, matt tervooren

Isle McElroy’s Grub Street Diet

"A local farmers’ market where the writer buys weekly vegetables (green leaf lettuce, kale, carrots, broccoli, a tomato) and notes stalls like the egg vendor (who on this visit had run out of eggs)." - Paula Aceves

Small but very good and varied supermarket. There is also multiple organic options available, staff is very approachable. I will suggest you go with a list so you don’t forget anything. Some days of the week you can find some special like sodas or natural drinks as orange juice or limonade juice. There is no parking so you will have to park around or paid parking.

The Green Farmers Market is a breath of fresh air—literally! The produce is incredibly fresh and locally sourced, and you can really taste the difference. I love the variety of vendors, from organic fruits and veggies to handmade goods, fresh-baked breads, and eco-friendly products. It’s clear that sustainability and community are at the core of everything they do. The atmosphere is friendly and vibrant, and it’s always a pleasure to chat with the farmers and makers. Shopping here makes you feel good inside and out. Can’t recommend it enough!

I like it. Not overwhelming like Prospect Park/Grand Army Plaza. You can find what you need. The apples are really delicious there. Fresh. Pastries (in particular scones) are there, pot pies, etc...Make sure you arrive by 11:30am the latest. 9- 10:30 (to me) are optimal times unless you want the discounted price (some stalls do this) then 1-2 pm is a good time.

DITMAS GREEN MARKET HAS A LOCALS FOCUS Not as large as the destination Green Markets at Union Square and Grand Army Plaza, the Cortelyou Road market is a neighborhood affair with little stall jostling and has vendors from upstate New York, New Jersey and the remoter parts of Long Island. Typically arising at 0400 to be loaded and on the road to the street outside PS 139, where writer Bernard Malamud studied, the farmers, cheese mongers, dairy men and bakers offer fresh vegetables, fruits in season, and meats and fish. Scallops there are a favorite and the breads never disappoints.

Google
Not a lot of vendor variety, but a decent selection at most vendors. Space is pretty limited since this is just on the sidewalk, but it usually isn't too crowded.

Yelp
This green market is very small! Hardly even a full block. Then again, if you don't need a lot of choices this place isn't half bad. They have a bunch of non organic veggie stands, and one option for bread, fish, meat and bakery goods. When I was here, they had a free clam bake. Everyone was pretty happy about that.

Yelp
There's nothing better than waking up on a Sunday and walking to the Farmer's Market for buttery croissants. My girlfriend and I not only have our croissant ritual, but we also buy ingredients at the market for that day's lunch and dinner -- fresh mussels from Gill's Seafood that I cook with wine from TB Ackerson, fennel bulb and dill and onion from Muddy River Farm, and a baguette from Bread Alone. We also get mushrooms for sauteing and farm fresh tomatoes for a caprese salad. Peaches also are the star of a nice peach cobbler. Mmmm . . . . foodie heaven. My only complaint about the market is that it's not open every day of the week and it's on the small size -- small compared to Grand Army or Union Square -- but beloved nonetheless. Now open all year round.

Yelp
A great farmers market! This is the place to get fresh and seasonal produce, which can be hard sometimes. I love their stands and hope it grows! :)

Yelp
Strawberry Rhubarb pie at Meredith's food stall! Need I say more?! So hard to find Strawberry Rhubarb pie anywhere and they say they make it year round in various sizes including a tiny mini one. They also have Key lime pie. So happy. Small easy organic food market with some good products to check out near the Flatbush food coop.

Yelp
Greenmarkets can bring purpose to purposeless weekends, and this one is extra exciting for me for the exact reason I occasionally complain about it... you never know which vendors are going to be there. That's OK, though. I get very excited about the winery, the farmers that sell grass-fed beef and sausage (they give samples) and the mushroom vendor. Bread and baked goods seem to be overpriced, especially since there is a great, old-timey bakery across the street. Go early and grab some coffee and a bagel from Catskill Bagel Company.

Yelp
I love this Greenmarket because it's big enough that I can find what I need but small enough that it doesn't seem overwhelming. Plus it's always really reasonable priced compared to the Union Square Greenmarket or even the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket. The only thing that's really pricy is the mushrooms but even then it's not too bad. Knoll Krest Farm is probably my favorite stand because their eggs are well priced and taste amazing. Granted they are grain fed chickens but at least they aren't fed antibiotics.

Yelp
This farmer's market tends to run out of things (i.e. spinach, lettuce) if you don't get there super early. Also, it might just be me, but I feel like it's kind of overpriced compared to some of the other farmers' markets around. However, it's definitely better than nothing, and really nice that it's so close by.
