Shaw’s Color-Soaked Cortez Aims to Bring ‘Happy’ Vibes to D.C. - Eater DC

"The team behind Shaw beer garden Takoda is branching out in the neighborhood, opening a 2,400-square-foot bar on Friday, March 16 that’s meant to transport patrons to Baja California — complete with tons of turquoise, plants, a rooftop tequila bar, and a West Coast-based muralist’s first work in D.C. The new two-story drinking destination that previously housed dimly-lit neighborhood restaurant 1905 has been completely redone via whitewashed brick walls, lots of colorful coastal-inspired accents, and funky lighting fixtures. It’s named after the Sea of Cortez along the eastern coast of the Mexican peninsula." - Tierney Plumb

This place has potential - regardless of reviews, you should definitely check it out. The location and venue itself is really nice and the rooftop is definitely a new hot spot I'll likely stop by often. The tacos were pretty good, but can't say they're worth the price. Margaritas were pretty good as well, but nothing to write home about. They just opened up recently though, so I'm excited to see how they use the constructive criticism to their benefit. Staff was very kind and open to feedback.

I’ve been here a few times and have loved it every time! I held a birthday party here. You can reserve half the rooftop for free! It was such a great experience. We loved the drinks and service. It’s usually very empty - not a lot of people there. So if you have a big group, it’s awesome because you can pretty much have the place to yourself! It also has great views of the Monument. I’ve heard the margs are really good too.

Great spot! We hosted my friend's birthday here and they provided us with the downstairs bar space for no reservation fee or drink minimum! All the party guests raved at how great the spot was and all the employees were champs for helping us out. Definitely will come back when it's warmer to check out the fun rooftop

Pretty good spot. The rooftop was amazing at sunset. The fish and cauliflower tacos were solid and had a kick, but probably not worth $5. They had a really cool dining set up where we were easily able to bring a bunch of tables together for our group of 12. I will be coming back!

The decor was nice and it was clean. The tacos taste great and the price was right. However... there was a hostess that never moved from behind the bar to do anything for our table and it was just us and her in there!! She stayed on her phone the entire night even when we were standing there. The kitchen staff that brought the tacos were far more friendly and helpful. The place was empty and I'm pretty sure that's why.

Really awesome bar! Spent hours on the rooftop of this place. The decor is quite fun. Really enjoyed the fish tacos and the deal that comes with two beers, chips, guac, and salsa! Really personable bartenders. Worth a visit especially on a nice day.

It was great for a hot second when it opened. Then they removed all the food, which is super lame. The tacos were so good and now all you get is a rooftop always reserved by groups. No more tacos is an abomination
