The Best Restaurants to Try Nearby Angel Stadium in Anaheim | Eater LA

"The Orange location of Cortina’s sits very close to the stadium, offering al fresco dining alongside a menu of pizzas, pastas, and sandwiches that can be stowed away for gamete eating." - Farley Elliott

Google
Tried the 6” meatball sub, and it did not disappoint. The baguette was perfectly crisp outside, soft inside, holding up well to the rich marinara and melted mozzarella. The meatballs were tender, flavorful, and packed with classic Italian seasoning. Paired with a bag of Maui onion chips, it was a simple yet satisfying meal. Cortina’s nails quality, from the food to the efficient service. Whether grabbing a quick bite or stocking up at the Italian market, it’s a go-to spot.

Google
Absolutely delicious sandwiches, I have tried a couple of different ones and each has been great. Can get very busy around noon but it is well worth the wait. Service is fast and friendly.

Lori Anthony

Google
My spouse Sicilian and said the Italian sub from the connected pizza and sandwich light lunches was the best she has tasted in OC since moving here 2 years ago. The Deli had a nice supply of deli meats and pasta. It was busy and vibe was friendly and seemed like a local hang out too. Good sign. We live in SOC but worth the drive

Ashley

Google
sadly they close early but whenever I do get the chance to stop by, I always enjoy it. the cross fit is perfect, one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. they have indoor and outdoor seating, which I can guarantee that you will be comfortable with either or!

Erwin Lievre

Google
Been going back ever since I visited for the first time. All sandwiches are good, hard to pick one every time I go there! I enjoy dining in since I like the atmosphere as well

Robinson Family

Google
Really good meatball sub, be aware of the lunch rush it can get a little busy. But well worth it.

Google
hands down best italian sandwich shop around. food is great, service is usually fairly quick, they have plenty of parking even during lunch rush. some of the sandwiches are a little more expensive than what i want to pay for lunch, but they're still good

Google
I've been a customer since 1968 at the original Cortinas in Anaheim. The one in Orange is just as good but a smaller menu so if your craving a good sandwich the Cortinas special (pictured) you cant go wrong. The one in Anaheim has a full service deli plus Italian food their lasagna can't be beat I grew just around the corner never had a bad meal I live in the IE now and still make the trip just to eat there. If you go at lunch time be prepared to wait but it's worth it.

Yelp
Italian sandwiches close to work?? Dangerous. Lol but just tried Cortina's for the first time after a coworker said he's been going there since high school. Now these weren't the same kind sandwiches I had in Italy (I'd say the main difference was the bread - they use more baguette style loaves), but they were so good. I tried the caprese and Rocky Balboa - these 10 inch sandwiches are huge, only half is plenty for me for lunch. The caprese was amazing, the pesto mayo is really what sold me. The Rocky was good as well, never heard of broccolini in a sandwich! The pork was a little fatty for me so it was a heavier sandwich to eat for lunch but to each their own. My only complaint is the price - we ordered on Yelp and each sandwich came out to about $20 after tax and tip which is kinda absurd to me. Regardless, Cortina's definitely knows how to make a good sandwich and the work crew will be getting lunch from here in the near future. We were all very satisfied with our meal. If you choose to eat there, there's a few tables inside but also a decent sized outdoor area!

Yelp
We were closer to the Orange location than the Anaheim one. We ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with extra mushrooms ‍. The sandwich was very temperate hot and tasty. It definitely hit the spot. They were still pretty busy at 2pm with dine in, Togo, and call-in orders. So, it did take about 20 mins for our order which is normal for the other location in Anaheim taking up to 30 mins. Pro Tip: the Orange location does not have pizza. If you are craving pizza, you need to go to the Anaheim location. Another difference is that the Orange location has more outdoor seating with shade.

Yelp
Is there a better sandwich place? There's some great ones in Orange and the surrounding areas but Cortina's is the best one IMO. I always get the Italian sandwich (Cortina's Special) and sometimes the meatball or italian sausage - all absolutely delicious! Cortina's Special is such a great italian sandwich. The bread is always fresh and perfectly soft with a flakey crispiness to it. Plenty of meat with a strong provolone that I love. Just a great sandwich! Honestly my only complaint is that they aren't open on weekends. Definitely recommend ordering ahead because it can get super busy during the lunch rush. We just order in the AM for pickup and it's ready when we get there.

Yelp
To paraphrase Jerry Stiller from Zoolander, it stings my like a fissure in my rear end to write this review, but I have to do it. The recent price hikes at this place are tough to swallow. $19.95 for a ten inch all American is a bit much. That price is made doubly hard to swallow by the fact that my $20 sandwich was on a stale roll. No great restaurant lasts forever, and it appears Cortina's time has passed. The public has already figured it out, the place was very empty when I picked up my food today. That might explain the stale bread, trim the orders and don't bother re-upping the lease guys. The party is over.

Yelp
If there is a better deli in Orange County please let me know. Yes they also serve pasta but I always come here for lunchtime sandwiches and I have yet to find better place in the area. I always get the Cortina's special but have tried many others . The service is exceptional as well. Sometimes hard to get a table around lunch hour.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Small but it looks promising! I got a salami sandwich one trip the next time a pastrami! The sandwiches are really good and priced decent! I recommend!
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
It was all good until I found all the carrot in there... had to take them all out. But I think it may have been my fault. Anyway, despite that, the sandwich I had was still very good. I'll be back to try more. A little hard to park though even with their big parking lot, not sure why.
google avatar

Rob C.

Yelp
This place is nestled in the business area of Orange right in front of a Boars Head Provisions warehouse. They sell deli sandwiches that are served up in their delicious bread. I got the sausage and peppers sandwich and bottled Coke. It was a good amount of sandwich for a 6" and it was tasty reminding me of basically of marinara sandwich. It was good not spectacular, but good. I would like to try more. I also ordered some potato salad that was just average and some potato chips. Service was order at the counter and be given a number and get your food at your table routine. There was a small say 10-20 people capacity inside dining and maybe another 10-20 more outside patio dining. Verdict - I'd wanna like this but I feel it could be a notch better. That said, I'd like to try something else someday here.

Yelp
Such a great little sandwich place in Anaheim. A hidden gem for sure. Fast and friendly service, generous portions, and good prices!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
I've been to the Anaheim location dozens of times, but today was closer to Orange, so I decided to come here. Same sandwiches, same prices. I went with a Large Cortinas Special. This place was busy! Took a little while for the sandwich to come out. Took it to go and ate it at home. How was it? Bomb! Cortinas Special- This is their cold cut sub. So delicious. All fresh ingredients on freshly baked bread. Damn fine sandwich...one of the best you can get in CA, and definitely the best you can get in Orange County. Still prefer the Anaheim location as far as set up and parking and such, but if I'm ever in/near Orange again, I will definitely come back. Their sandwiches are absolutely fantastic!

Yelp

Yelp
Sandwiches here are the bomb! The specialty items are delicious. They are more than one meal. They offer so many good items it is hard to choose just one to review. The bread is amazing too. Staff is friendly and service is great.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on Thursday around 11 cause we were in the area. *if you come here, it is HIGHLY suggested you order online or phone order* We waited about 20 mins for our sandwiches! This place can get pretty busy. So, plan ahead! I got a 10" Rocky Balboa..has Porchetta w/melted provolone, broccolini, garlic oil, Au jus and pecorino Romano cheese. This sandwhich is pretty good! With the Au jus it's so super good! My husband got a 10" meatball which was their world famous meatballs w/cheese. It was so good! The meatball was moist and tender. It wasn't dry and hard to bite into. All-in-all, these sandwiches are very filling!! It was delicious!
google avatar

Patrick A.

Yelp
So I've loved this place since the first time I stepped in back like 2018.....and I don't think that I'll ever stop loving it. These sandwiches are huge and tasty. I've always got the following sandwiches, as they are always winners, in my opinion- Cortina's Special, Roast Beef French Dip, The Fireball, Russo Special, and Philly Cheesesteak. This time I tried something different and was not disappointed. It was called the Rocky Balboa. It was homemade hot porchetta, melted provolone cheese, broccolini, garlic chili oil, and au jus. It was sooooo good that I've added it to the list of go to's
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Might be the best sandwich I've ever had.......Cortinas version of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich is, in a few words, practically perfect! Their bread is always incredible and the way they cook the roast beef and veggies gives it a perfect crust and flavor and the addition of both American and mozzarella is definitely unique and a massive improvement from your standard Philly. My only edit was to add the spicy giardiniera. The bummer is that it was so good, I don't see how I order a different sandwich from here anymore!
google avatar

Ally F.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches. Loved the cheesesteak. The bread is the best. Cute outdoor area.
google avatar

Jordan F.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. Best sandwiches in Orange County hands down. Rocky balboa is a must. I haven't had a better hot sandwich anywhere . Small indoor seating with a nice patio. I hope they keep this location cuz the Anahiem one is too far from me!

John C.

Yelp
I tried out the place today everything looks So delicious on Yelp and I tried the cold sub And hot roast beef and spaghetti meat sauce Everything was good BUT BUT the garlic bread comes with the spaghetti was really Sauggi I thought I was chewing a gum But the burn in hot roast beef sandwich was Perfect crispy outside and soft inside I will try out other stuffs next time Service and the vibe 100 % satisfied Thank you

Yelp
My review is based on their famous meatball sub and the turkey sandwich. The meatball overshadowed my sandwich and not that it was bad but the overall combination of meatball, sauce, toasted bread in combination was delicious. My turkey sandwich was on the same bread but not toasted and I opted for mustard since I am not a fan of mayo. Price points averaged about 9.50 for a six inch (good portion) or nine inch was more. This was my first time here but all of the sandwiches looked really good. The line got long after us but service was quick taking our order and didn't overly take too long to come out. There is limited seating both indoors and outdoors so to go may be a better option if you are on a time crunch. It was a simple fast casual type of sandwich place which I enjoyed more than a subway or maybe a Jersey Mike's. We will be back.

Paul Y.

Yelp
Pretty amazing Italian sandwiches. Extremely poor service/unorganized staff. Went in on a Thursday afternoon - the process to order was a bit hectic as there was a line that clearly wasn't organized and dividing into 2 lines. When I went up to order, the cashier decided it would be the perfect time for a shift change and had me standing there for a few minutes before directing me to the other cashier (things happen, I get it, but maybe have the other cashier take me next rather than leaving me to dry?). This was followed up by waiting around for about 20 minutes as I saw 3-4 people who had larger orders of multiple sandwiches picking up and leaving (they ordered after I had entered the store). Went up to the cashier and asked about my order - low and behold, it's been sitting on their service counter for the past 10 minutes. Not offered an apology - but thankfully the sandwich was pretty good! I'll probably be back, but will make sure to keep my standards for service at a lower level.

Yelp
Nice Italian joint with quality items and cold cuts, BUT not to my liking! Cold cuts in an Italian deli are supposed to be thin/shaved and piled high. These guys slice 1/8 of inch thick and fold it over inside roll, thick and chewy NO GOOD. Italian roast beef is supposed to be RARE, not WELL DONE. horrible. The good news??? Sausage n Peppers sandwich EXCELLENT!!! Highly recommend!! My next trip gonna try Eggplant parmigiana sandwich, will keep you posted n updated.

Yelp
First timer at the Orange location . Many many visits to their Buena Park location. Typical lunch time rush. Luckily we were able to get a table. Funny thing is, out of all the visits to the sister site, this is my FIRST Cortina's sandwich. Been ordering their pizzas, pasta & salads on prior visits. The big plus for this site is the parking. Although a long narrow lot on both sides of the restaurant, it's 100 times better than the miniature lot in BP. Ordered the Cortina special 6 inch. Decent amount of mixed salami, cappicola, etc. Freshly cut lettuce (not the chemical taste like bagged lettuce), sliced tomato & as requested, extra pepperoncini. The bread is amazing, filling was amazingly fresh, just a great sandwich. Although I have a pretty hardy appetite, the 6" was more than enough. Actually took home half. My MIL had the roast beef sandwich. She also was very pleased with her sandwich. Same great bread, etc. Very crowded with those dining in & take out. Prices compatible to other places ($9-12) for 6" sandwiches. MIL noticed a lot of male diners. Not sure why that mattered. Maybe the hardiness of a good sandwich. It's a cute place. Reminiscent of a ships hull kind of feel. They must have a totally different staff as many previous Yelp reviewers (7-12 months earlier) noted horrible service. We didn't experience this. As busy as it was, meals were ordered, expedited with efficiency. Wish I had ordered the sandwiches before. After this visit, I really feel as though I've missed out on some good sandwiches.
google avatar

Leticia L.

Yelp
Cortina's Orange is one of my favorite places to visit during my lunch break. They offer an amazing selection of sandwiches and pasta dishes. My favorite dish to get is the penne pasta with pesto and chicken. The pasta is cooked to perfection and the pesto sauce is very flavorful. The staff is very nice and efficient. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
Never have I ever been to this location and I've lived in Orange over 18 years. I always have gone to the Anaheim location because they offer so much more, plus have a grocery/deli style store and are open later. Came in for lunch with some friends and it was packed! Luckily we got a table and were seated quickly. I ordered a Turkey sun and I believe the lettuce had gone bad. Something in the sandwich was just bitter tasting. Would try again but not in the near future. Cortina's has been in business for many decades and we love the Anaheim location more. Great for catering too! Stop in but check hours so you are not disappointed.
google avatar

Sherri N.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, always great cannolis, and yummy pasta salad! Small, but we usually take it to go.
google avatar

Stacey M.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in town. Plan on a bit of a wait if you come during the busy lunch hour. Everything is made fresh and the sandwiches are huge even for a 6".

Sheila H.

Yelp
How have I never tried this? Used them for Christmas Eve dinner and it was amazing!! Don't miss!
google avatar

Oscar P.

Yelp
Great place for lunch! I've ordered various sandwiches here and they've all been great. The Rocky Balboa is my go-to and never disappoints. Highly recommend making online orders and picking up as seating is limited and parking can be a challenge at this location, especially during peak lunch hours.
google avatar

Anna A.

Yelp
I'm a little taken back. This place looked good smelled good and pictures were awesome online. We ordered our food to go and it was a salami with genoa, nothing spectacular but a decent sandwich. Also a spaghetti with meat sauce and it was $11.00 so i figured pretty decent. When we got to our destination we opened our lunch / food and were very disappointed. I could have made noodles and a tablespoon of sauce for a fraction of the geh price. We will not return and unfortunately we are in this area a lot for treatments.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Incredible sandwiches, the bread is really high quality and fresh. Prices are reasonable and the service was friendly and quick. Pretty inside with lots of natural light and plants. Love the shaded outdoor patio area too.
google avatar

Gerardo L.

Yelp
This place makes my favorite sandwich of all time. You must try the Rocky Balboa sandwich!! Everything is made fresh here. Busy place so be patient , it will be worth the wait. Like this place better than the OG location in Anaheim.
google avatar

Leo S.

Yelp
The food is really good, the meatball sub is ungodly, I don't think I've had one that good before. The food tastes fresh and the serving size is large. A meatball Sammy that is 6'' can for sure be shared for most people. Thing is large. Great flavors and never anything bland. We have been there a few times and while I get the same thing each time it never tastes different. One of the best Sammy places I've been too. They do phone orders, online through here and in person. They are busy a lot of the time since they are only open until 3 and only during the week. Make sure to give them a try and support local small business
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
As always everything was awesome food was wonderful order picked up on time no waiting,it is not cheap you pay for the privelidge, but worth it.
google avatar

Vinnie B.

Yelp
I ordered the overpriced pastrami here at lunch, I don't know what all the hoopla is about here. The pastrami was greasy and a bunch gristle, I thought Boars head was supposed to be the best of the best? It sure wasn't today. I think people come here because it's convenient for the local businesses around here.
google avatar

Cheryl V.

Yelp
I have not a negative thing to say. The food is always amazing, the service is fast and consistent. The location is small but I always order to go and they have plenty of tables even with the space they have. This place gets PACKED. Order ahead. Always. My go to order here is the margarita pizza, the cáprese sandwich and voodoo chips, they are to die for!!
google avatar

Carlota H.

Yelp
We stopped off for sandwiches because a friend recommended this deli, but we were disappointed in the quality of the sandwiches. Not as tasty as we were expecting- rather bland.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
Had the Rocky Balboa...the best sandwich I think I have stuck in my mouth! Perfect bread, perfect crunch, the perfect amount of broccolini. Left me wanting to go back the next day!
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I like this place because the sandwich they prepare it's coming very delicious. Sometimes the girls are distracted and they forgot to submit the order., but if you order it online, you never have a problem. Seems like the place in Orange is very convenient because it's got a good ambience and good service.. What I'd like to place in Anaheim because it's bigger and they have also pizza

James C.

Yelp
My first time having Cortina's and had the special. All I'll say is, I don't want to drink my water, and I don't want to eat the chips I bought...because whatever is going on for my tastebuds is pure HAPPINESS and I don't want it to end. AMAZING!!!
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
Cortinas is an Anaheim landmark. You will never leave hungry nor empty handed. Excellent Italian market. I just wish prices were a little lower.
google avatar

Hani J.

Yelp
Great sandwich, decent service. based on the name alone - had to order the Rocky Balboa. Can't walk past the italian stallion. What an incredible sandwich it was! Pancetta was incredible. And the broccolini was a nice touch.. I was surprised that I liked it but I definitely liked it. Would've liked a TINY bit more salt on it, but that's my only real complaint. My dad opted for a cold sandwich option (bad choice, amateurish!) - but he prefers it and loved the sandwich he had. I can't remember the name but it was their "signature" option. Overall, food was great. Service was acceptable, if a bit prompt. KInd of lacked that "flare" I like to see for the fifth star - but I'll definitely be back here for sandwiches in future.
google avatar

Heather V.

Yelp
I still absolutely love the food here- it's amazing. The updated star rating is reduced strictly on the friendliness of the front cashiers. No smiles, no eye contact, no "how are you"... nothin! Very rude these days which is pretty disappointing. I hope management can see this review and make some positive changes.
google avatar

Lili K.

Yelp
Meatball sandwich was great as usual! But my antipasto salad looked tired and romaine was brown on the edges. Best to stick with the hot sandwiches w/ o lettuce. :)
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
Solid. Quality ingredients well assembled with proper proportions. Bread was wonderful. Friendly staff. What else do you need for a lunch time sandwich? I would come back.
google avatar

T. H.

Yelp
There are sandwiches and then there is the art being produced at Cortina's. This is the simplest way to describe this family owned market. Let's start off with the staples of any good sandwich: bread that is soft inside and crunch outside but will not fall apart when packed with ingredients, quality meats vs basic cold cuts, and fresh condiments. You will find all of those things with every selection and it blends perfectly together. The service here is prompt and efficient and the ambience is modern but the interior can be a bit packed with the sheer volume of the lunch crowd but there is ample seating outside. If you are new to this place then would highly recommend the Cortina Special as it's akin to an Italian hoagie but on a different level. If this establishment were any closer would be visiting on a weekly basis and likely require permanent stretchy pants for my expanded waistline. Drool...eat...food euphoria...rinse, repeat, and enjoy!
google avatar

Victor V.

Yelp
I have been eating here over the years and it has not let me down ones no matter what new item of the menu I decide to explore. Everything always has a fresh taste , thank you for having quality food
google avatar

Felipe P.

Yelp
What can I say about Cortinas, the best sandwiches anywhere, always so good. My favorite is the cortina's sandwich and I like it warm. I can eat this sandwich at list once a week.

Lauren P.

Yelp
The food is incredible! I wish they had longer hours because we crave this so often! Great service too the staff is always super friendly.
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. I had heard about it, but never been there before. The workers had like a real family atmosphere, super nice and on point. I grew up very italian so to me there is nothing like an Italian deli to get a delicious sandwich from, I've had trouble finding that in southern California, but this spot came through. Turkey sandwich, no skimp on the turkey. Super good cheese, fresh lettuce, and I don't know what they do to their bread (maybe cocaine in it) but it's worth the deadly addiction. Their bread is amazing. They also have a very cool soda machine with a plethora of Italian style sodas and unique flavors. Ima def be there again. I highly, highly recommend this place!!
