I seem to be eternally optimistic that I'll find good Italian food in Park City. I'm not sure why, especially after tonight's experience.
I always start with Pros because there are always some. The shrimp arrabbiata was actually quite good, very spicy, the pasta was not overcooked, and it was not overly oily (last time I tried it, it was swimming in oil). The fettuccine, a la "fettuccine and meatball", was likewise appropriately cooked and it had a nice spice to it. The sautéed spinach was good.
Now for cons...where to start?!
The eggplant rollatini was not edible. Eggplant should melt in your mouth and eggplant rollatini should be a delicious melding of eggplant, light marina, and cheese. In this version, the eggplant was cut too thick, it was seriously undercooked (almost raw), the breading was thick, the marinara a bit overwhelming, and the filling sparse. I took 2 bites because I was hoping it would get better after the first, but it didn't and so that was it.
The lasagna was awful. The noodles were very thick and doughy. I'm not sure they could have achieved an al dente consistency regardless of cooking since what they were starting with seemed to be nothing like traditional lasagna noodles. The bolognese was dry and bland and it was very dense. Another dish that lasted 2 bites and was done. I'm not sure how this dish is advertised as being in high demand because it is truly some of the worst lasagna I've ever had.
The meatball in the fettuccine was also dense, dry, bland. Not sure what quality of beef they are using, or how they are preparing it, but it doesn't work and they need to step it up.
So $100+ later and we had 1 1/2 dishes that were actually worth eating...
I gave it 3 stars because the arrabbiata was actually quite good, the order was done on time, and the staff were helpful and friendly.
