Dog-Friendly Bars and Patios in New Orleans - Eater New Orleans

"A long-loved neighborhood spot located in the back corner of the French Quarter, dogs are a near-guaranteed sight at Cosimo’s. They’re even allowed inside, given that many of the regulars are dog-owners. Cosimo’s has a separate kitchen with great burgers, decent pizza, and an array of bar snacks." - Beth D'Addono

One of my favorite spots in quarter. It is literally like going to your friend's house. Merry people, good food and dogs. The good mood extends around the corner and even across the street with sometimes people setting up a couple of chairs to hang out at a local crawfish boil food truck. I've had some great times here already.

Google
Friendly low-key neighborhood bar that is very dog friendly (water bowl and treats). The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. I've only had the pizza, but it was delicious. Bartenders are very friendly.

Google
Love the environment - super busy but worth waiting. Great pizza. Great prices on drinks and the pizza. Love that they have other food options. Food came up fast and love that they’re dog friendly Only suggestion would be to make the drinks a little stronger bc they’re a tiny bit watery. But everything else makes up for it lol

Google
A quaint neighborhood bar. Super friendly bar staff. Dog friendly too!! Kitchen is open from open to midnight, if it's super busy the kitchen will stay open longer. Burgers, wings and pizza are amazing there at a reasonable price. Kitchen staff are friendly too. Definitely worth a visit if your visiting from out of town

Loved this place!! Cosmo's is what you hope for in an old fashioned bar. Great drinks and fabulous service in a suburban type bar. The decor is traditional dark, glossy wood which gives you that homely comfortable feeling. Immediately relaxing and friendly. The highlight are the amazing bar persons. Hunter and Ashleigh are super friendly and amazingly talented - their cocktails are top shelf quality. Thanks so much Hunter and Ashleigh for backing a couple of old Aussies feel so welcome. You made the experience one to remember. ** Went to Cosmo's again (a victim of habit!!) and received the same great service from Marilyn - many thanks Marilyn. What a great team! Highly recommended local bar. NB. - The lower score on the food is no reflection on the bar. The food caters vary and it just depends on who is catering at the time and if it appeals to you.

Google
best dive bar! my favorite bourbon for less than $10. a wide music playlist - not the usual top 40

Google
Good location. GET THE PIZZA! It was hard to get to the order window with so many people at the bar but totally worth the effort and wait. The dough tastes fresh and the cheese is plentiful.

Google
Quick service. Good vibes. Dart board and pool table in the back. They serve food if you need a bite to eat.

Yelp
I thought this place was a full-on dive bar because a friend said he got tossed out a few years ago. But I think that's more a reflection on him than Cosimo's. Rather, I think of it as a rare jewel in the Quarter, a clean, attractive neighborhood bar where you can actually carry on a conversation and enjoy some drinks and food without being stepped on, spilled on or worse by the tourist hoards farther uptown. I'm looking forward to trying some food next time.

Yelp
Nice bar in the Quarter with good service. Happened to stumble across it. Definitely recommend for a drink.

Yelp
This is cool bar that seems to attract a dedicated cadre of locals and here you can usually escape the tourist hordes of the quarter. They currently rent out their kitchen to different vendors so you never know who might be running the kitchen and what they might be serving unless you research it. They used to have a really great burger here for years which was on the larger side and had some juicy deliciousness but of late they have had some vendors doing pizza and recently they added burgers to the selection. This is a dog friendly bar as it is right next to the dog park and so it attracts lots of dog lovers. The service is friendly and attentive along with often being entertaining. The prices are generally affordable and not the typical tourist rip off many places in the quarter have degraded into. FYI: This is yet another of the bars that claims the notoriety of having had Lee Harvey Oswald as a frequent customer.

Yelp
One of the best dive bars in New Orleans. I come every year and a local recommend Cosimo's and it had to have been my favorite bar. The locals were so welcoming and the prices were the cheapest. Service was so fast.
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
They don't call it #yourfavoriteneighborhoodbar for nothing! Cosimo's is super friendly, welcoming and a bargain compared to most bars in the Quarter. The drinks are always good. The pop up kitchen is a solid option for late night eats. I'm a huge fan of Taco Tuesdays with some of the best authentic Mexican food you'll find anywhere. The $4 margaritas don't hurt, either!
google avatar

Yelp
Remarkably nice neighborhood bar! Had a really good cheeseburger, washed down with a quality Irish Whiskey. Small, quiet and neighborly. A short walkfrom the Bourbon Street mayhem. This corner of New Irleans has three first rate burger establishments, but the vibe here is great. Bartenders were a Trent I've and efficient. Clientele doesn't act like they own their table or stool. Free of the insipid party scene.

Yelp
Must visit. Just trust me. Good music. Good people. Great service. Have fun and come often when in town.

Yelp
Great dive bar in the French Quarter. Dog friendly! We went on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The bar was fairly quiet, and both the bartender and the kitchen staff were incredibly friendly. It's a couple of rooms including a couch, pool table, and piano. The drinks and food (French fries and jalapeño poppers) were tasty! We will definitely be back. Street parking.

Yelp
Holy mother the pizza is fantastic! 10.00 for a small- it was amazing Cold beers and decent sized shots Love this place
google avatar

Yelp
Cosimos was a recommendation from a bartender we met on our trek through the quarter. Supposedly it was a favorite of Anthony Bourdain's, that and the promise of a cool dive bar set us on our path. It is one of those perfect dive bars, dark but welcoming, great staff, and a beer selection that satisfied our varying tastes. The bartender even created a shot inspired by our friend Michael Melish's signature drink: vanilla vodka and ginger ale with a splash of orange juice. I hope it has legs but if not it was fun in the moment. If you're looking for a quiet place to hang out for a bit I highly recommend Cosimos!

Yelp
I stopped by Cosimo's for a drink and happy hour. I went for a Founder's IPA ($4.50 during happy hour) and I tried the cheese bread. The cheese bread was solid! The sauce was flavorful and the cheese was delicious. Cosimo's offers a 20% Yelp discount, but when I asked the bar and restaurant staff they had no idea what I was talking about so be aware.

Yelp
Great dog friendly bar and great bartenders ! On Tuesdays, we have been going for the Crawfish boils.

Yelp
I just gotta say... damn bitch. Like, that's so damn good. I really can't think of anything to say other than "damn bitch". *slow clap walks out after my life was changed*
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
This place was very mediocre and pretty far from everything. I only got drinks and enjoyed them sitting on the curb since there was no space inside. It was very loud and crowded which was not our thing.

Logan S.

Yelp
I went twice during my week long stay. Both times I was lucky to have Kacey. She was the life of the bar and was amazing. The second time I went I even challenged her to make me specialty drinks she came up with three drinks that were great. I definitely recommend when she is working. She was great.

Yelp
My favorite neighborhod bar. Cosimo's has a great staff and some of the best bar food in town. Its a fun place to catch the game, grab dinner or just swing through for a night cap. The fact that it is so dog-friendly is a huge plus. I spend a lot of time petting dogs here and know most of their names even though I don't know the owners LOL.
google avatar

Janet S.

Yelp
A local bar towards the end of the quarter. Dark, Atmospheric, two rooms, one with sofas. We had some Pizza and boudain balls, not gourmet but tasty and filling at a good price. Good place to rest your weary feet.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
cozy neighborhood bar. friendly bartenders and affordable greasy salty bar food thats exactly what you want after a few drinks. pizza wings or burger never disappoint. you can watch the game and they play some good music too

Yelp
We visited Cosimo's on a whim when we wanted to drink at Lafitte's but it was way too crowded, and I'm glad we found this spot via Yelp! My boyfriend admitted that he selected it after seeing photos of dogs on their page, but there weren't any inside when we visited. It was a nice gesture on his part, though, to try to get me near some dogs. :) Anyway, we walked in around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon in February and there were plenty of seats available. I immediately noticed that they serve food, and from reading reviews, apparently their food is really good. If we were hungry, we would've tried something, but we'd just eaten. Instead, we each ordered beers, and enjoyed a few hours sitting at the bar. During our time there, we noticed that the bartender was really friendly with everyone who walked in, and it seemed like this place had a lot of regulars, which was really surprising to see in a town filled with tourists. This place was truly a gem, so if you're looking for somewhere to drink just off Bourbon Street with less tourists, this is the place to go, and apparently you can bring your dog, too!

Jorinda J.

Yelp
Amazing neighborhood bar. Love Casey she's the absolute best. Also love that it's dog friendly!!

Yelp
Seems like a really cool spot as I noticed its on of those places that can be like a Cheers type of joint. Everyone seemed to know each other so I'm sure its a place where the locals go to stay away from ridiculous tourists like myself...lol Bartenders and staff were really nice as they offered me some complimentary pizza which came in handy because I was drunk and hungry. This place is located almost on the edge of the Quarter. Nice R&B music was playing so I was definitely enjoying the music vibe here. Cool spot to hit up if you wanna get away from all the tourists in the Quarter.

Yelp
I came here with some friends to grab a drink and to relax a bit during Mardi Gras weekend. This place is more of a local haunt and was pretty low-key even during Mardi Gras. After a few drinks, we got caught in the rain here and decided to grab some food. We ended up ordering some fried pickles and french fries, along with a burger. Everything was actually very good and was a super reasonable price. It probably took about 15 minutes to come out--which was pretty quick and really hit the spot. Overall, if you're looking for a neighborhood watering hole or just some good bar eats, this is definitely your place.

Yelp
I have a talent for finding bars that are hidden gems. A regular bar that while is a well kept secret to an outsider is welcoming to the outsider none the less. Enter Cosimo's. We were looking to hang out in the French Quarter for an evening but the busy hub of the area was not really my thing. We decided to drive towards another part of town where it was less crowded. On the drive "out" of the quarter we noticed this sleep little bar with its doors open and a dog outside. SOLD! We were lucky to find a spot and came on in. Talkative crowd... a crowd of 5 though we were told it was still early. It did pick WAY up by the time we left. The bartender was very friendly and she kept our drinks coming even while keeping up conversations with the regulars. Did I mention that the drinks were practically free (compared with just down the block, actually most bars) They had plenty of spirits to choose from- I can't speak for the beer sorrry. They have a pretty decent menu for food. You have to order it at a hidden window- but they will tell you where and they will bring it to you when it's ready. Food was good bar food. You will need cash for the food, but they do take credit cards at the bar for drinks. If you are looking for the New Orleans experience without the frat boys on holiday or the money grab on Bourbon- come here.

Yelp
Lots of fun. Great crowd of friendly locals. Marge was the best bartender ever!! Also delicious food! Love the boudin balls.

Yelp
We were just reminiscing about finding this place which reminded me that I had not posted a review, shame on me. It was a stormy night in New Orleans. After dodging rain under balconies and in and out of our favorite quarter dives we had a developed a craving for Pizza and beers. Nola is known for many things, pizza withstanding. Having spent a stupid amount on shitty pizza from a street vendor the last time we were in town we set our sights on finding something better... a pizza experience worthy of our love for the city. We found it and so much more at Cosimo's. Nestled in a quiet corner of the quarter this unassuming little bar is a delightful surprise. Walking in we were immediately met with a friendly, casual group of people happy to be drinking in a comfortable neighborhood bar with friends. If you love glorious old woodwork this bar is an amazing find. If you love affordable, delicious pizza wings and bar food, this bar is an amazing find. If you love friendly locals this bar is an amazing find. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Nola.

Yelp
This is a bar with a lot of locals and their pets. I walked in and was greeted by a dog sitting at the bar. He was cute, so I took a picture. I just couldn't believe it...this is one of the reasons why I love New Orleans! Even the dogs pose for pictures. Anyway, we ordered drinks and eventually food. We watched Scandal while shooting pool in the back. The drinks were strong, and the food was hot (although nothing gourmet). What more could I ask for? Bar hopping in NOLA 4 Stars!

Yelp
I'm upgrading my review. The dick that used to work in the kitchen is gone. The people in the kitchen are very friendly. The food is good. The bartenders are all friendly. It's a great, friendly, dog friendly neighborhood bar.
google avatar

Yelp
It may be counterintuitive reviewing this neighborhood bar since I'd be happy to have it be oblivious to most Quarter-goers, but I do want to show them some Yelp love. I've visited here when it was a laid-back Saturday night to hang out with a few regulars, and Sashimi, the dog, and I've been here after Krewe du Vieux with wall-to-wall revelers that spilled out into the street. If you're a traveler looking for the "French Quarter ambiance", Cosimo's isn't necessarily your calling. If you're a local looking to grab a pre-game drink before diving into the Quarter or you work in the Quarter and looking to get a drink after your shift...yes, yes, come here. The laid-back Saturday was great. The bar is a quite long with plenty of open bar stools on a slow night. Kind, quick, and affordable service on drinks, nothing fancy. You can easily hear/talk to your friends/date on the stools next to you without people overhearing your conversations or even caring. Krewe du Vieux night...a near transformation! Juke box blasting great '80s tunes, so packed you'd have no idea you had friends standing 10 feet from you on the other end of the bar. You'd have to be okay with a little shovies from peeps picking up Bar Food or heading to the restroom. Still a great time and service was still as quick as it could be but more-so than most bars THIS packed. I don't necessarily plan a night to go out to Cosimo's but it's a nice haven from what exists streets away, and I hear they have a killer Bloody Mary...so I need to get on that.

Yelp
This is probably the best bar in the quarter, and definitely the best locals bar. I have been going to this bar for over 10 years and it is one of my favorite places to go and hang out with friends. The atmosphere is the most relaxing you can find, especially in the quarter. In the evening the lights are dim, there are always plenty of seats, the pool table is not tilted in any way, and the beer is always flowing. I have always found the prices to be unbeatable. Jeanne, Ashley, and Brooke are my favorite bartenders. They always keep my drink filled in front of me and always have a great smile on their faces. The regulars crowd can't be beaten either. When you walk in, it is almost like a scene from Cheers where everyone knows your name. Over the past few years, there have been a bunch of new faces but the neighborhood regulars always remain the same. I highly recommend coming here for Saints Sundays. The bar opens early and it is an awesome place to be. Everyone is always having a good time, win or lose. Come on over and get yourself a shot of Jameson along with your indulgence of choice! Cosimo's is the place to be!

Sareena N.

Yelp
I popped into Cosimo's to meet a friend and only spent about twenty minutes in thee, but I would definitely return. Nice bar space and a friendly bartender who make me one of their famous bloody Mary's. It was very good, but not the best I've had in town. I also ordered some cheese fries which were delicious. Lots of locals chilling and a few people with their puppies made for a nice casual hang out space.
google avatar

Mely M.

Yelp
Ended up not ordering a drink here because the bartender (Anna) was extremely rude and unfriendly. Asked for a drink suggestion, told her I liked everything but beer. Her response, "well that doesn't help me at all, so you can get back to me when you figure it out." Last I checked bartenders were supposed to be knowledgeable, friendly, and supportive in helping a customer decide on a good drink. Not at this place!
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
After hearing all kinds of raves about Cosimo's, I figured it was time to check it out. This is a nice little neighborhood bar that is far away from the hustle and bustle of the quarter. It's a friendly place where everyone seems to know everyone. We didn't stay a really long time, but I was able to try a bloody Mary and it was just as good as Joi had described. I like that it's a little darker here. I have an appreciation for darker, cozier bars.
google avatar

Steve I.

Yelp
Coz is my hideaway in the Quarter. When I want to get away from the crowds of the Quarter I come here. One of the most fun bars you will find. Jeanne is a blast as well as most of the other employees. Lots of regulars here and there usually seems to be something fun going on. Love the quirky chandeliers and the ambiance. The food is pretty good but sadly no more Si Senor! Coz does SIN Tuesdays and Thursdays for all you service industry workers in the Quarter/downtown areas. They are also dog-friendly!! TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS FUN, LAID-BACK BAR ON THE QUIET SIDE OF THE FRENCH QUARTER.
google avatar

Joi B.

Yelp
Best. Bloody. Marys. In town! These may be fightin' words, I do realize that. But you can trust me on this because Bloodies are my thing and this past Sunday I was on a pre-Barkus mission to find a good one. It was odd because as we walked from home (in the Marigny), we passed by many a bar where we could have found a better than decent Bloody Mary (this is New Orleans, after all, and I will say I've never had a Bloody in another city that came close to what you can get here). So, yes. We walked. Considered options. Kept walking and it was like some force just brought us to land at Cosimo's where just about everyone in the bar was throwing back the Marys. "She makes them the best," I was told. Say no more, the order was placed and lo and behold the perfect Bloody Mary in my hand. What makes one perfect? It's not the bells and whistles (ie, elaborate garnish that makes like a meal), it's the balance of acid/spice/salt and this bartender, bless her, achieved just that. "How are the Bloody Marys?" she asked after we took a couple sips. "Perfect," I replied, beaming. "Great! I'm trying to get the word out that I make the best Bloody Marys in town..." to which I assured her, "Oh, you can count on me getting the word out for sure." To all my Yelp friends.

Yelp
Another favorite neighborhood bar hidden in plain sight at the edge of the French Quarter. When I am in the area I love to stop in for an adult beverage and some conversation. It is a bar that isn't too loud and that lends nicely to the art of conversation. It is cozy without being too cramped. There is usually some fun people watching to be had as well. I especially love the little tiny chandeliers that hang over the bar. 100. the end.
google avatar

Brendan S.

Yelp
Went in here before we left to go to the saints game. People were amped up. The food served here was good and the selection of beer was good, as well.
google avatar

Scott F.

Yelp
I am a NOLA native who is accustomed to pimps and their workers. However, please don't represent yourself as a neighborhood establishment when you cater to the oldest profession. I had to wait behind two workers while the bartender smiled and said, I will be right with you. I am not a prude, but I was there first and why doesn't my money spend as well as theirs?
google avatar

Melissa E.

Yelp
Holy mole! Taco Tuesday has been reinvented by Jordan- house made mole, and perfectly tosted totillas. That hot bitch behind the bar doesn't hurt.

Yelp
A cool locals bar that is inviting for everyone to enjoy what is truly the French Quarter !!! Great bartenders, Great food, with Great music and Great atmosphere !!! This is the place where ELE, aka Everybody Loves Everybody !!! So leave your hatred at home. Bang Biscuit !!!

Yelp
Terrible service. Dirty bar. Ordered online and walked to pick it up. Cook decided not to finish our order and then expected us to wait an additional 10 minutes for him to finish the order. We opted not to wait and he refused to refund us. Bartender ran by us back and forth from the bar to the bathroom. Slammed the bathroom door. Realized the bathroom was disgusting. Swore under her breath how much she "hates b*tches." It was just a mess. Bad attitudes everywhere.

Dieter B.

Yelp
I lived near this bar for years and was always a solid go to hang out. When I drop by now (less frequently since I moved), it's still a great place. Not to bright, good long bar, and still a neighborhood bar where people hang out. Not so much a party bar. Food is good bar food (not destination food but what you want to have available). Late afternoon or late night, it's always pleasant (although sometime the music may be loud).

Yelp
Remarkably nice neighborhood bar! Had a really good cheeseburger, washed down with a quality Irish Whiskey. Small, quiet and neighborly. A short walkfrom the Bourbon Street mayhem. This cirner if New Irleans has three first rateburger establishments, but the vibe here is great.

Yelp
We stopped by here every day because it was not only the closest bar from where we were staying, but everyone is SUPER friendly. Fulll of locals and they were very welcoming. Off the beaten path, very good prices, and great service!
google avatar

Roxanna G.

Yelp
Omg this is my favorite bar of the night. Casey and Roo are my go to girls of New Orleans...I love them both ... they know how to treat their guests and they both damn well know how to make drinks... especially tequilas!!! Love them!
google avatar

Arlyn G.

Yelp
So we passed by this place and had to make a stop. They had like 3 giant pots and I quickly realized it was a craw boil. So we pulled over and headed into the bar to ask how we could get our hands on some of that. Spoke to Dave who gave us our food....you could totally see it was full of locals. We sat on the steps of a house and started to enjoy this amazing experience.

Yelp
Big fan, love the wings, love the wing sauces, bartenders have been pleasant and chatty, the crowd is solid. This is a great neighborhood bar.

Yelp
An om. A nom. And another nom. We were in the area, and I had purchased the Groupon a month or so ago. Since it's in the quarter, parking wasn't particularly easy but we found a spot right across. The weather was mild and there were several people outside using the tables. Inside, it was dark, more of a bar than restaurant. The bar was pretty full so we took seats at a high top. The bartender directed us to the end of the bar to order the pie. We then waited. The music was playing off a jukebox, a really eclectic mix. The crowd was equally diverse. The pie was delivered in about 10 minutes. And that's where things really got interesting. Thin, crispy crust. Sauce has just the slightest zing to it. Toppings were flavorful and lots of them. The pie was thin, light and easy to eat. Lots of pepperoni and it was really good. I ordered mushrooms as well. I'm a big fan of mushrooms so I was hoping there'd be as much as the pepperoni, but there wasn't. No big deal. The atmosphere was mad laid back...but the bartender and cook were extremely pleasant. If you're not a local you might think they were being rude...but that's not the case. If you need something, ask. They don't read minds
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly neighbourhood bar in the French Quarter somewhat away from the madness. Good beer selection and friendly bar people. Every day there is a different special dish of the day - usually something creole or cajun. When crawfish are in season and the weather cooperates there is a big boil going on once a week.

Yelp
The service is horrible and if you complain, you get kicked out. Just don't bother. If u could give zero stars, I would.
