CosMc’s is Closing, as McDonald’s Pulls The Plug in Chicago and Texas | Eater Chicago

"Opened as a beverage-focused pilot in December 2023 in a repurposed Boston Market in Bolingbrook (about a 45-minute drive from Chicago), this drive-thru–only concept offered a menu without burgers or fries—featuring breakfast sandwiches, boba and coffee beverages such as a Popping Pear Slush and a yellow turmeric‑flavored latte that did not actually contain turmeric. The hyper-sweet drinks attracted hordes of customers and social-media influencers at launch, producing hours-long drive-thru lines that required local police and corporate security to manage. The concept expanded to four sites in Texas in 2024 but is now being shuttered, with its companion app slated for discontinuation on June 23; the company says some successful elements from the pilot may be folded into McDonald’s broader menus. The outlet’s outer-space theme was built around an obscure McDonald’s alien character from the 1980s." - Ashok Selvam

McDonald’s Is Launching a New Chain Called CosMc | Eater

"An experimental small‑format outpost from McDonald’s in Bolingbrook emphasizes a digital‑first, drive‑thru‑centric experience with little to no dining room and subtle branding that uses a single golden arch rather than the full character motif. The concept’s menu leans heavily on specialty beverages—multicolored “galactic boost” drinks like a Berry Hibiscus Sour‑Ade, cold coffee creations such as a churro frappe and a turmeric‑spiced latte—and McCafé staples including McMuffins and McFlurrys, alongside two new vegetarian‑forward sandwiches, the Creamy Avocado Tomatillo and the Spicy Queso. Executives say the format is designed to capture a younger, more mobile audience and to exploit growth in digital ordering, delivery, and drive‑thru so the company can open in smaller, previously off‑limits real estate (with plans to test up to ten locations next year, nine initially slated for Texas). Early photos and reporting show a beverage‑forward offering positioned to compete with specialty coffee chains, while coverage has also noted broader concerns about the parent company’s labor controversies as context for the rollout." - Jaya Saxena

It was our first time and I love the drink I got. I ordered Iced French Toast Galaxy™ Latte and the drive thru girl offered how she like it because the drink can be bitter and she likes it sweet so I asked for something in the middle and the drink turned out so good.! We also got sandwiches and pretzel bites. The pretzel with the Spicy Queso was about 4/10. It just didnt taste that great. I loved the avocado tomatillo sauce on the sandwich but it was a bit too soft for me. But overall the menu is pretty cool. They really have the cosmic drinks vibe on point.

I'm so glad I got to visit before they close for good in September! On Monday, June 23rd a friend and I looked up online to see where the IL location is exactly. We came upon an article that stated that all locations would be closing at the end of June! I began panicking as I hadn't visited yet! I live in Missouri, 4.5 hours away. So, not too far... I commented on many recent Facebook posts related to this location. Most people thought it had closed already, or that it had closed Monday the 23rd. One person said they thought it might be open until September but that their source was unreliable. So, today, June 25th, my bf, me, and our dog jumped in the car and began our road trip! We were very happy to find out CosMc's was still open and just as happy with our experience. What we ordered: Sprite Moonsplash Sprite Berry Blast Pretzel Bites w/spicy queso sauce Spicy Queso Sandwich Savory Hashbrown Bites Apple Cinnamon McPops My favorite thing was the hashbrowns!! I wish there were more than 4 per order. Or it would be cool if it was one large hashbrown like at McDonald's but with the savory seasoning. The Sprites were good. I liked the Moon Splash more than the Berry Blast. I'm not a fan of cream. The pretzels were good but kind of hard, maybe overcooked? The Spicy Queso San. 10-10 stars!! I love spicy breakfast sandwiches!! And there was like crispy jalapeño flakes or something on it which was a lovely surprise. I really really wanted to enjoy the Apple Cinnamon McPops. But they were cold, refrigerated cold. Why don't they warm them? 1-10 cold would be a 10-10 if they warmed them. Buy them, take them home, and pop them in the microwave for 10 seconds.

CosMc’s isn’t just another fast-food chain—it feels like a fresh, exciting take on what a drive-thru experience can be. From the moment you pull in, you notice the difference. The branding is vibrant, the menu is packed with fun and unique options, and most importantly, the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Unlike traditional fast-food places where service can sometimes feel rushed or impersonal, the employees at CosMc’s take the time to ensure each customer has a great experience. Whether it’s greeting you with a smile, making small talk while your order is being prepared, or double-checking that everything is just right, their hospitality stands out. One of the best perks of visiting CosMc’s is their app-based promotions, especially the free drink offer. Many loyalty programs can be complicated or require multiple purchases before you see a reward, but CosMc’s keeps it simple—just download the app, and you can grab a drink for free. It’s a smart way to introduce new customers to their menu while also making regulars feel appreciated. The process of redeeming the reward is seamless; there’s no hassle, no fine print that makes it difficult to use, and the staff is always happy to apply the discount without hesitation. The drink selection itself is another highlight. Unlike a typical McDonald’s menu, CosMc’s focuses on specialty beverages, offering everything from iced lattes to slushies with unique flavors like Sea Salted Caramelactic Shaken Espresso or the Coconaut Cold Brew. The free drink promotion makes it easy to experiment with these options, and the friendly employees are often happy to recommend their personal favorites if you’re unsure what to try. Beyond just the drinks, the overall vibe of CosMc’s is fun and inviting. Even though it’s primarily a drive-thru concept, the atmosphere still feels welcoming, and the employees contribute to that with their positive energy. You can tell they’re not just there to get you in and out as fast as possible—they actually care about making sure you enjoy your visit. It’s these small yet meaningful details—great customer service, generous app rewards, and a fresh, exciting menu—that make CosMc’s more than just another drive-thru spot. It’s a place that feels new, engaging, and worth coming back to, not just for the drinks but for the entire experience.

Hurry, They may be closing June 10th, last day. Really good bubble tea, an egg and biscuit sandwich with Queso sauce. Flavor is out of this world. Also, a much better drive-through experience with a chance to talk to your host and interact with the menu. Skip the line next door and try CosMc's. So much fun.

We enjoyed this place! I thought the restaurant was closed because we didn't see any cars around at 8am. We drove around again around 8:30 and parked to study the menu. We ended up getting the spicy queso breakfast sandwich with sausage and churro lattes. The breakfast sandwich was good. The bread was fresh and the fluffy egg was great. I didn't care for the fried jalapeños,they became soggy right away, and the queso isn't very spicy. I won't make any special trips for it,but it was tasty. The latte was great for my guy,but I like more actual coffee, this was foam galore, and there was still foam at the bottom-they have super milk or something. The person at the window advised us that the lattes aren't very sweet and asked if we wanted to add sugar. We wanted to try them as is. I don't like overly sweet coffee, but a pump of syrup or a couple of sugar packets were definitely needed. Overall, this was a nice place and I'll definitely go back to try more items,it's still strange to me why they had no cars in the morning, but hey check it out, just check the menu 1st and customize your drinks.

Google
I got a coffee drink and one of the sandwiches. I had been wanting to go since it opened, but just never made it. Now that it is closing, in wish I had gone a few more times. Obviously it is fast food, but it tasted good. The dri k was a little sweet for me, but the taste was good, and there are many people that like their coffee drinks sweet like that.

Google
OUT OF THIS WORLD 🌎 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ WORTH THE 2 HOUR DRIVE WEEKLY. McDonald's company nailed the new start up restaurant, the spicy queso sandwich is INCREDIBLE. The Strawberry cookie mcflurry was great as well, lots of mix-ins. Highly recommend the Hash Browns with the Herb Ranch Dip, and Spicy Queso Cheese Dip, SO GOOD. And then there's the drinks, I ordered the Iced Churro Latte, and French Toast latte, it tastes just like it. Please bring this chain to South Bend/Mishawaka, it's SO GOOD.

Google
Sad to see this place close a the end of June. Love the cookie butter mcpops, and tomatillo avocado bacon egg and cheese sandwich. I hope these items come to regular mcdonalds!

Yelp
Sad to see this place go and sad to see it has low reviews. If you're seeing this in time, i recommend giving it a shot before it closes soon. Drive thru only may seem like kinda a hassle, but the drinks are pretty good and the food is high quality for fast food. Really like when fast food tries new flavors. Got the sour cherry energy burst and the popping pear slush. Popping pear had some popping candy that added a nice texture and looked cute. Sour cherry was actually quite sour which i can't say of a lot of things, and the popping boba added a nice touch for the price. Please bring these to McDonalds!

Yelp
Only tasted for the novelty of the branch and the checkout experience but would not return. Person managing multiple lanes of orders was efficient in minimizing wait time. Would stick to the drink experience only if you want to try it. Spicy queso sandwich - very salty and mushy - jalapeño pieces helped but it wasn't spicy, did not finish Pretzel bites - palatable but generic bread pieces, did not finish Spicy queso - mine was solidified, did not try Iced oat and honey latte - syrup comes off sour, the oat milk carries most of the flavor, coffee tasted standard

Yelp
A one and done experience. The iced coffee was room temp and tasted sweet. Nothing special. The citrus shake was actually pretty good, but also very sweet. Definitely wouldn't make a special trek out here for this one. Even if you were in the area, it's still kinda just EH. I just don't see any big wow factor in the food or atmosphere that's warrants coming here over McDonalds. In fact, McDonald's might even have better atmosphere (being you are not just sitting in your car, lol)

Yelp
I've been dreaming on coming to check out this new concept from McDonald's. First impression was I was surprised it was completely dead when I arrived around noon. I guess maybe McDonald's next door takes the lunch rush. Overall the experience at the drive thru was positive but the red light green light system is strange. I was surprised how clean the place was when peering into the window. The spicy queso sandwich might be one of the best fast food sandwiches I've ever had. It's up there and very similar with the cancelled Chorizo sandwich from Starbucks. (BRING IT BACK!) The Spite Moonsplash was delicious but nothing one wouldn't be able to cook up at a Coke freestyle machine. Would love to see an expansion of the menu and locations.

Yelp
This was just amazing! I am sad they are closing because I just got to go there. The mcpops were delicious and I am gonna be honest the pink pear slush was flavorless and the moon sprite was interesting. The mcpops are soft and light they are just amazing.

Yelp
I was surprised how much I liked this. I thought it would be fun to try this new concept, but was really pleased at how good everything was. I love Sausage McMuffins with Cheese, but don't like the round egg that usually goes on them at a regular McDonald's. Here I could instead order it with an "omelet egg," which is like a fluffy, round scrambled egg patty. It was wonderfully delicious when added to all the regular ingredients of a Sausage McMuffin with Cheese. I also ordered the hazelnut pops, which were like a sugarcoated filled donut with Nutella inside. They were served warm, and were soft and delicious. And I had a large latte, with skim milk and sugar free vanilla syrup. The milk and syrup were both plentiful, and it, too, was delicious. Will be back in the area in a couple days, and I'm already plotting my return. My only regret is that this lone location in the Midwest is an hour from my house. I can't wait until they expand and bring one up to the far north side of Chicago or the near north suburbs!

Yelp
WELCOME TO COSMCS! I have been WAITING FOR THIS ONE Y'ALL! So let's dive in! It is important to know that CosMc's is DRIVE-THRU ONLY! When you enter the line, do not be deterred by its length! Here, you order, pay, and wait at the intercom/screen. You will only drive up to the window to receive your food! This makes the lines LOOK long, but you are likely waiting the same amount of time as you would at any drive thru. The food and drink were what sparked my initial interest in trying the McDonalds spin-off. While they offer some of the same options (mostly from the McCafe menu), I was mostly interested in the drinks and snacks! I ordered the Berry Hibiscus Sour-ade (Medium) and the pretzel bites with queso! Were they good? Yes! Do I prefer Sonic? ... yes. While the retro style is cute, I think sonic does it best! Curious to see if this will become a chain!

Yelp
CosMc's is such a cool concept! I love that we just wait in one of the lanes until food is ready and then they direct you to the window to pick up from. Definitely a cool experience from that perspective! Food wise: My husband and I have tried both breakfast sandwiches. The Spicy Queso sandwich had a spicy kick to it that my husband really enjoyed. I love the sauce used in the Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich. Even the amount of cheese is perfect and not too overwhelming! The hash browns tasted good. We compared them to less greasy Dunkin' hash browns. The McPops are sooo yummy too! The cookie butter ones are my favorite but all 3 flavors are great! Drink wise: I'm not a super big fan of their cold brew but I did enjoy the boba you can add to it! Both of us agree that our favorite drink from CosMc's is the Tropical Spiceade! It was a perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. I usually worry when it comes to juices or sodas because the sweetness gets to me quickly but i was so pleasantly surprised with this one! We get the energy shot in it too and it definitely does the trick! I love the add ons you can get to all of the drinks. Definitely go and check them out if you're ever in Bolingbrook!

Yelp
It's like McDonald's and Starbucks have a baby. The famous McDonald experimental restaurant. It is so popular at 2pm on the weekend day that they need 2 police officers to control the flow, respect for them. The CosMc's have 4 order spot and 3 windows, which is an innovative ways for the drive through. The menu was very experimental with bunch of new fancy drinks, the drinks are tend to be very sweet and the pear slushy(taste like gum) is not very well made. The sandwiches are fresh, in my creamy avocado tomatillo sandwich I couldn't taste a lot avocado sauce. The packaging is very good looking and cool.the service is very friendly and you can see they are passionate of working there. It is a good try of some new stuff of McDonald. Hope they will improve of their drinks in the future.

Yelp
It's a drive thru only place. You have to wait in several lines then drive up to the designated window. There's a parking lot around once you're done ordering but it doesn't have a lot of shade. I recommend downloading their menu ahead of time so you know what to order. I liked the Avocado sandwich more than the Queso. Although there wasn't a lot of avocado. Sundae was probably my favorite but I am that person who will willingly drink the fudge all day. The brownies were soft unless you got a corner piece.
google avatar

Brielle L.

Yelp
The drive-thru experience was actually nice, kinda like a mix between a drive-thru and a Sonic stall. However, drinks are overpriced and don't seem special enough to have their own restaurant. It seems like they could have just made these drinks at a normal McDonald's. Not worth going out of your way at all, maybe not even if it's across the street.

Yelp
The food here was good but not amazing. I got the queso sandwich and it was good but a little expensive for a McDonald's spin off. The mcpops were amazing - especially the cookie butter one. The pretzels were good. I liked the sour cherry energy freeze but it was a bit too sweet after time. The smores cold brew was not great. Service was incredible - very friendly. Hard to tell on the ambiance because this is drive thru only. But pretty on the outside.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to be one of the first customers to visit CosMc's. I came across it on Youtube, and I was immediately intrigued. When we arrived, we were greeted by police officers directing the traffic to order. There was a maze to get in line to order. But, I was determined to try this place. After waiting in line for about 45 mins, we finally made it to the menu board. Unlike regular Mickey D's locations, CosMc's has 4 stalls. You place your order and pay at the menu board. After ordering almost everything on the menu, the board tells you when to pull up to receive your food. After about 3 mins we were told to pull forward to get our food. The bacon and egg sandwich was pretty tasty, I enjoyed the bun and had them hold the avocado sauce. The egg was a bit different, but it wasn't too bad. The hashbrowns were tasty, especially when you pair them with the Herb Ranch dip. I ordered the Tropical Punch Pick Me Up with boba. It was pretty nasty. The flavors did not mesh well at all. We got a mixed bag of McPops, and the best flavor, in my opinion, would be the apple cinnamon McPop by far. Lastly, the caramel fudge brownie was just meh. I think it would've been a bit better if it had been served warm. Overall, it was an experience. Would I travel to Illinois again for it? No. But, if I was in the area, I would stop by. The customer service was excellent! CREAMY AVOCADO TOMATILLO SANDWICH 1-5=3. Hash Brown Bites 1-5=4. Tropical Punch 1-5=1. Apple Cinnamon McPop 1-5=4.5. Brownie 1-5=3. Customer Service 1-5=5!

Yelp
Came here on a whim since we were in the area. The wait times are insane. We waited for a little over TWO HOURS to even get to the order area. They have 4 lines for ordering and even then, the overall service is very slow. There's no indoor seating and it's all drive-thru. Now for the good stuff, the food/drinks: Spicy Queso Sandwich - we thought this was the best thing on the menu. Not too spicy, very flavorful. Would definitely order again. 9/10 Hash browns - these were ok, kinda tasted like the ones you can get a Dunkin' Donuts. There's only 4 of them in there. 4/10 McPops - we got the mixed bag ones. These were decent, I think they would of tasted better if they were warm. Our favorite was the cookie butter one, apple one was good too. Nutella, surprisingly, was our least favorite. 6/10 Sour cherry energy burst - this didn't even taste sour, it was mostly sweet. Probably wouldn't order again 4/10 Chai frappe burst - this was our favorite drink from what we ordered, also very sweet 7/10 Popping Pear slush - I honestly couldn't taste the pear flavor and this was also suuuuuper sweet. Would not recommend unless you have a sweet tooth 2/10 Unfortunately didn't have any pictures of the food since we ate everything while driving. Definitely not worth the very long wait times

Yelp
I heard this place was overrated by some friends but I had to try for myself. Unfortunately I have to agree everything was mediocre and didn't live up the hype that it had when it opened. Prices are pretty high and portions are small. I'd much rather support a local coffee shop than another fast food chain.
google avatar

Glenn P.

Yelp
First time trying CosMc's and it was not bad. The drink was comparable to a seasonal Starbucks drink, and the Sausage/Egg McMuffin was carefully put together (opposed to being thrown together and falling apart like at the nearby McD's location). As far as McMuffin's go, it was a 5/5. I found the CosMc's specialty sandwiches to be pricey which spooked me into getting something familiar. My expectations were not high going in, so I was pleasantly surprised with my churro cold brew frappé. It wasn't a complete sugar bomb and the coffee was decent/borderline good. The ordering process was interesting; waiting in the queue watching the whimsical little ufo to get the green light for pick up was no big deal. The staff were patient and accommodating, so I bumped this up a star, to 4. I'm glad I waited for the hype to die down. Would this had been worth an hour long wait? No. But for a once-off experience, it was fun and gimmicky, a tad overpriced, but I can say I've been to the first CosMc's.

Yelp
The Berry Lemonade was the only thing worth it on the menu. Even the regular McDonald's breakfast was blah here.
google avatar

Isaiah G.

Yelp
We were on vacation and decided to try this place. My kids were very excited about coming here. We came here on a Saturday and it was busy. They seem to be very efficient since it's mainly drinks. We ordered 4 different drinks and done tater tots. I ordered a churro frappe and it was actually really good. The tatter tots were really good. It was $33 I thought was okay because we did get large drinks. I wish this was in my area.
google avatar

Iris P.

Yelp
Would you wait 5 hours for food? WELL WE DID IT! Honestly it was a lot of fun! The employees walked around handed us merchandise while we were waiting and it built up our hunger so we legit bought so much from the menu when we wouldn't have if we only waited 1 hour or 2. From what we saw inside it was a big place but it's only a drive thru which is NICE! They had 5 drive thru parts and it was very organized! The food was DELICIOUS! It was worth the drive and wait!

Jen S.

Yelp
They did get my shake wrong I got a strawberry when I asked for a vanilla! But the Mcpops were absolutely

Yelp
I've been hearing so many mixed reviews and finally decided to try it since I was in the area. It's drive thru only right now - not sure if they plan to open it for sit down at some point but the line cuts into the parking lot to the plaza. There's thankfully a cop who is directly car traffic to the right area so no one gets cut. I waited maybe about 30-35 minutes total for everything - line, ordering, and receiving the actual food and drinks. My fiancé and I ordered a handful of things to try: Sour cherry energy burst slushie: 2/5 - was honestly way too sweet. Wouldn't get it again Pomegranate hibiscus slush: 3.5/5 - also decently sweet but much more tolerable than the sour cherry. Creamy avocado tomatillo sandwich: 3/5 - the sauce had a nice kick - enjoyed the brioche bun - cheese should have been melted so that kind of affected the taste Pretzel bites (with queso sauce): 3/5 - your typical pretzel bites except a tad too salty for our tastes - the cheese sauce was not even warm so that made dipping a bit harder Mixed bag McPops: 4/5 - best thing we got! It came with a cookie butter one, apple cinnamon, and hazelnut. - favorite was probably the cookie butter! Would get again Blueberry lemon cookie: 2.5/5 - just too sweet and hard Overall, I felt like everything was either too sweet or too salty. Would we come back? Maybe only if in the area. We live in the city so this is quite the trek for just a so-so experience. I definitely believe there's room for improvement. It's innovative enough but I'll probably stick to regular McDonald's in the meantime.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place on our way home from Chicago! I hadn't heard of it but my 16 year old was so excited about it we decided to try it out. The concept is very cool with it being take-out only. You order, pay and wait to be called up to a window to get your food. We had maybe a 7 minute wait max. Pulling up to the menu board felt like pulling up to Sonic's with all the fun drink choices! I had the Berry Hibiscus Sour- Ade and I also tried the Caramel Fudge Brownie Sundae. My daughter had a fruit slush with whipped cream and popping candy on top. Their drink menu was extensive from cold brews, to cappuccinos, lemonades, teas, etc. some snack type food ie pretzel bites, , ice cream, some traditional McDonalds items....the big thing though... how did everything taste... the answer is eh! The sundae was small and no different than any similar sundaes I've gotten elsewhere. The brownie was good and soft enough though. My drink was very watered down, no flavor at all, very disappointed! My daughter enjoyed her slush. I'll give it another try when out that way but overall cool concept, very underwhelming.
google avatar

Amber K.

Yelp
Super good Blueberry Ginger mmmmm! We had to wait 57 min from the time we entered the car line to the time we got our beverages but we were happy with the product. It had a Jenson's vibe to the place. CosMcs is going to be a hit!
google avatar

Tyga M.

Yelp
Finally, a McDonald's ice cream machine that serves twist cones! Unfortunately, there's not much else to rave about there. The menu offers a variety of drinks, ranging from teas / coffees to shakes, all of which are seemingly very sugary. As for food, they offer strictly breakfast items. There are two sandwiches which aren't offered at the standard McDonald's; of these, the queso sandwich was the best, as the avocado tomatillo really held the flavor of the sandwich together. The sides we ordered, hash brown bites and mixed McPops (think donut holes) were fine, but steep for the price. The drinks were insanely sweet! So sweet that we didn't finish ours and threw them out. For me to visit again, I'd need more variety when it comes to eats; other than that, it's not worth me coming back.
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Ehhh not excited about Cosmc's for how the long the wait was... Their food was ok- our Creamy Avocado Tomatillo sandwiches were cool and the bacon was uncooked (which hubby gave to the dogs) and small, the Hash Brown Bites again the order was tiny- only 4 in the little bag?? I liked my energy drink which was a Sour Cherry Energy Burst. It was just that- sour and had little bubbles? that you suck through their large boba straw and they pop in your mouth which was kinda fun- damn I'm flying now!! The line wasn't as bad as I thought but again I sat for 20 minutes for this??
google avatar

Anita P.

Yelp
I visited cosmcs Jan 2024 to finally come around and see what the hype was about. The line was significantly shorter than when I've tried to come in the past, but the whole trip still took around 45 minutes. We ordered the mcpops and the tropical spiceade. The mcpops were good but served cold - so could've been better. My favorite flavor was the cookie butter. The tropical spiceade was far far too sweet for my taste (but I kind of expected that going in). The boba is nothing to rave about, it's just ok. I'll probably try another drink next time when the line goes down even more.
google avatar

Yelp
As a business this is probably one of the best catch 21s that the McDonald's corporation made. It's a McDonald's owned corporation, next to a McDonald's so it's perfect that you can strategy for the business to make money since they're not in competition with each other. What I will say about trying the first ever CosMc's is that, I didn't want to come here the first day. I waited a while and it's as busy as waiting in line at Portillo's. Service was slow, they did have dairy free choices to customize with. Which is cool but overall, there's nothing special about this place that it wasn't worth the wait. Prices are pretty high as well for their small bites but their food was cold upon arrival. You can't go inside, it's all drive thru only and cashless which I Don't like. It's a new business but only time will tell if this concept is here to stay permanently

Yelp
SPACE ODDITY The world's first (!!) intergalactic spinoff from McDonald's is now open in Bolingbrook. The fast food giant decided to try something new with this small format concept featuring a speedy drive-thru but minimal indoor seating. Overall, I'm neither thrilled nor disappointed with my inaugural visit to CosMc's, and truth be told, wasn't fully sold on the idea from the get-go (and still don't really see the point). CosMc's opened to the public on 12/7/23. It sits on the plot of land where Boston Market used to be, on Weber Rd near the Boughton intersection. There's 4 ordering lanes that converge to a single lane for order pickup; you can pay with cash at the window or use your card at the terminal when you order. The menu has some unique items, but nothing crazy innovative like shoving a McRib inside a Big Mac (or sweet potato fries, eh?) The hash brown bites were fine, the sour tango lemonade was indeed very sour, and the spicy queso egg & sausage sandwich had all the DNA of a classic McDonald's breakfast item. There's some unnecessary overlap when the McD's -- literally right next door -- has their morning menu up, but the redundancies are mostly limited to McFrappes and McMuffins, which both locations sell. Prices are neither cheap nor expensive, I'd say about average in comparison to other places. * TL;DR * Of all the wacky characters from the McDonald's universe, why'd they go and pick something from an obscure 80's commercial? Who made the decision to choose the previously unknown CosMc over Grimace, Mayor McCheese, or even the Hamburglar? A B&W prison motif selling "jailhouse juices" sounds infinitely more interesting than whatever this yellow & purple goofiness is. Part of me feels honored that Micky D's corporate decided to use our little town as a testing ground for their afternoon pick-me-up drink concept. The other part of me sorely wishes it were instead a Freddy's, a Jack in the Box, a Carl's Jr, or a drive-thru Poke Burrito (come back to us, Steak n Shake!) Bottom line, CosMc's is just fine as an alternative to Dunkin or Starbucks. I'll likely come back to try the blackberry mint green tea, a S'mores cold brew, and those highly touted stuffed donut holes. While the initial hype is bound to wear off, CosMc's should drum up a steady flow of business for months to come. I wish them the best.....though I'm still waiting patiently for Illinois' first In-N-Out.

Yelp
Ok, so it was a 3 hour wait. Yes, 3 hours!!! My daughter's and myself committed, so we stayed. I can't quite understand why the line took so long...Anyways, both my daughters tried the sour cherry energy boosts and they thought it was very sweet. We had the hashbrowns, Mc Pops, and the salted chocolate chip cookie. Ba da ba ba ba, I'm NOT loving the line...but the food was tasty!

Yelp
Okay i've gone to a ton of mcdonalds but CosMc's is different what I suggest people to get from this place is a large churro shaken espresso, a spicy queso sandwich, cookie butter, mc pops apple cinnamon mc pops, and hazelnut mc pops. If they ask if you want a mixed bag say no. The service was amazing. The ambiance was awesome too.

Yelp
Visited at 3pm on a Saturday and had about a 10 minute wait. Got the prickly pear slushie and enjoyed the taste, refreshing on a hot day. The savory hashbrowns were mediocre and I wouldn't recommend ordering. They were not crispy and only 4 small hash browns, not worth the price. It was an interestingly fun experience for being a drive through.

Yelp
Wait was long even with four drive thru lanes. Rating the following foods: McPops 5/5: Basically donut holes filled with either chocolate or cookie butter, or apple filling. All of which are soft and flavorful. Can't pick which flavor was my favorite! Chai Frappe 4/5: Pleasantly surprised, this was one super delicious with the popping boba, super flavorful and not too overwhelming. Berry Hibiscus Sourade 1.5/5: Waay too sweet for my taste, and also very sour. Those two did not balance out, basically threw this one away after a few sips. Creamy avocado tomatillo sandwich 3/5: It has a smokey, lemony flavor, crispy bacon, and a soft bun. For a sandwich it wasn't that filling and a tad underwhelming. Hash browns 4/5: pretty good hash browns lightly seasoned and snackable size, can't go wrong with these.

Yelp
Went the day after they opened at around 6:15 am. Waited about 20 minutes so not too bad. Light friendly conversation while ordering. Process - 4 lanes credit can be scanned after ordering. Dynamic board that tells you what window to go to. Food: Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich - egg, bacon, cheese, sauce- the bread is very soft and different than any bun I have had at McD before. Really tasty and i liked the sauce. Spicy Queso Sandwich - pretty good size sandwich egg, sausage, cheese, fried peppers, sauce. Both eggs in both sandwich are more like an omelette egg (yummy) vs. McD. Bun also so soft same as the avocado sandy. There is little crunchy fried peppers - not spicy but adds great texture of crunch. Because of the sausage tastes more familiar to a McD. My wife liked this one better of the 2. Pretzels Bites and dip - i picked spicy cheese. Fine/ok - if you in the mood for pretzels bites you won't be disappointed. Cookie Butter McPop - so good! First one i was like a o ok good - Trader joes would be proud. Second one after all the sour and sweet drinks - like really good. Apple Cinnamon McPop - very good. Nice bright taste. Soft doughnuts texture. Not a munchkin. Soft like a krispy kream but the dough itself without the filling is not as sweet. Hazelnut McPop - it is in a lightly powered not caked on doughnut - not nutella more peanut buttery. Wow really love it. Blueberry Lemon Cookie - Unfortunately I never got it. Understandable given the craziness but since not in app yet can't request any help. This was prob the only reason to drop from a 5 star experience. Main Event - Drinks: did not get any boosts- but interested in future to. Chai Frappe Burst. This was a surprise winner for me. The small straw could get the popping boba and honestly i never order a chai but i really like this. Chai is often to fragrant and earthy for me. favorite of the bunch for me. Churro Frappe - not churro-y that much at all. Like a nutty frappe, more toffee-ish. Prob pass for me. Popping pear slush - i was most excited for this. Pop rocks on top. Yummy like most desert pear drinks - see flat top desert pear drink for similar. Sweet and yummy pop rocks add some further experience. Really finely slushed not icey. Enjoyed it. Tropical Spice - dragon fruit and pineapple - very very Mild spice not spicy, like tingle from pineapple. Reminds me of tingle when i eat ginger. Texture from floating dragon fruit seeds. Yummy. Island Pick Me Up Punch - has floating strawberry slices. Reminds me of strawberry Kiwi Snapple. A nice punch. Berry Hibiscus Sour-Ade - Actually sour. Usually when drinks say they sour they are not. While it is very sour also very sweet. Grape notes and very concentrated flavors. What i usually do with drinks like this is add equal part water and drink it over a 8 hour period. Overall i love the idea of trying new things and innovation. Unfortunate about the missing cookie but it is what it is. Given the variety of drinks I can see why creating this as a separate brand (right next to a traditional McD, but could also see some of these items just rolled into the core business. Would love if they would introduce a milk tea as well as an ability to adjust sugar level on any drink. Glad i tried the range and likely will return for a cookie, sandwiches and the chai!

Looking Out For The City ..

Yelp
Not a bad place to stop with a lot of variety. I was looking at the menu; however, I think CosMc's could have done better to highlight the Mcfood items. If they are going for adding Mc breakfast options (McMuffins) and a dessert (McFlurry), they might as well consider adding the below: Breakfast: McGriddles? Lunch and Dinner: McCrispy, McChicken, and McNuggets? McDouble? McRib? The customer service was fast though, drive thru for fast service. Suggestions: One of the two issues I see McDonald's has wrong with this restaurant (well one concept they still have wrong with McDonald's locations was the double drive thru speaker and the bottleneck it creates. Sure it gets the order in quicker, but still single file to the pay and pickup window)? With this place, it will be with serving people with big orders who SHOULDN'T be able to use the drive thru. They will find that people using the drive thru to do this are holding people up. Come on CEO, tell your operations manager to figure this out! The other issue is their menu. They have items under the "From the McDonald's Universe" that are in the "Sandwiches" area. Why the redundancy?

Yelp
We saw this on a YouTube video and decided we had to try it. Thankfully we are in Chicago and headed home to St Louis the next day. It's a perfect stopping point for a drink. It's an interesting concept given that you order then wait at the ordering place then when you're food is ready you go up to the window and get you're food. It is only drive thru, but the guy taking our order was helpful and patient. We got two drinks and 3 food items and it came out to $22, so similar to Starbucks. The Chai Frappe Burst wasn't very chai flavored, to me it tasted only of vanilla. I lived the popping boba in it though. The boba were slightly cinnamon sweet. I wanted more boba!! The Berry Hibiscus Sour-Ade was like a flavored lemonade, it was good. The Hazelnut McPops were like doughnut holes filled with chocolate hazelnut spread, very good. The Ice cream was similar to McDonalds ice cream. Finally we had a Blueberry Lemon Cookie. I ate that the next day, so it was hard (my fault), but it was so flavorful. I would definitely go again on my way to Chicago. I hope the concept takes off and they open more stores in other places.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place for a while. Was in town and finally got the chance to stop by in the afternoon. Was initially impressed by the online ordering feature and noticing the four lanes, until I sat and watched for a while before entering the line. I noticed cars were in the ordering lanes for an unnecessarily long time. Once we finally entered a lane, we were instructed to wait before they would come back to us. We waited a good 15 minutes and all the cars in other lanes passed us, as well as other cars behind them. I think they forgot about us because they never came back to take our order. We finally moved to another lane because I was tired of waiting 20 minutes for a few flavored fountain drinks. Once we pulled up to the new lane, they magically took our order right away. Very strange ordering process and I can't say that the wait is worth it, sadly. The drinks were fine, but I don't think I will be coming back.

Yelp
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! It's an average quality McDonald's trying to be Starbucks, so in essence a Starbucks knockoff! Make sure when you order that the items are Medium sized as you see on the menu. While I was ordering, they were adding the Large sized items I ordered but obviously at a higher rate in price when the menu only displays the pricing for Medium sized items. All in all don't know if I'll be back, you definitely have to try it once just to see if it's your style but not for me. Deuces!

Yelp
No, just no. My daughter wanted to try it, but being ignored for 4 other cars and then paying 7 bucks for a slurpee , nope.

Yelp
Waste of money and the app doesn't work. Complete failure. For one, the sour cherry slush was not even all that slushy. The lemonade was supposed to be super sour it wasnt. Very average for above average prices. Never again

Yelp
Finally I stopped by to try it out and see what was all this hype about. This place is only drive thru and there's no entrance inside or bathrooms. You drive up too one of the five drive thru menus and they take your order. If they don't answer you press the button below the credit card machine. The menu is pretty huge and lots to choose from. If you use the app you can see that you can customize and get bigger size drinks. The menu for the drinks at the drive thru only states medium. We ordered the popping pear slush and it was very good but next time I'm going to order it online and instead of pear flavor I'm choosing peach. We also got a churro cold brew frappe and it was delicious. Next we got the iced chai tea latte and I didn't like it but my wife did. It was a very strong tasting and you get hot with this floral taste. This would be a perfect drink when you want to wake up a sip of this and it has your face turning. We got the spicy queso sandwich and it was good and the spicy queso sauce is the only reason it was good. I also got the creamy avocado tomatillo sandwich and it was good but the tomatillo sauce is a bit sour. The savory hash browns we got were burnt and hard as a rock horrible and there's only four or five of them in the order. The pretzel bites with the spicy queso was my favorite out of everything. The mixed bag mcpops was good my favorite where the apple cinnamon one and the mcpop was super soft. The hazelnut mcpop was also good but the cookie butter mcpop was not that great tasting also it didn't help that the filling size is very little and you only get three mcpops in an order. We a where going to get the caramel fudge brownie but they where sold out. Overall cosmc's was alright wouldn't go out my way to get anything here.

Yelp
3.5 stars for effort. I ordered the turbo lemonade (this has yuzu)but made it 50/50. I highly recommend this as most of their drinks are sweet. I also tried the spicy queso sandwich. It was actually pretty good. I especially liked the brioche they used. While there is a lot of room for improvement, overall this was a great experience and I will return.

Yelp
Only if you are in the area try it..its different from regular McDonald and it's only At Bolingbrook IL

Yelp
First time trying, and I know why nobody comes here anymore. I ordered hash browns, spicy sausage sandwich, and avocado sandwich. Food was good but they forgot my sauce and I was the only person in line. The drive- thru only, Pay at the screen is weird. You have to wait until they tell you to pull up. Even though if it was normal you would still have to wait in line but moving up makes it seem not as long of a wait. I sat across the lot and ate for about 45 mins and I saw 1 car go through. Outside of special drinks, there are only a couple items different than the McDonalds next door, and the service is way quicker. This should have been a pop-up idea, not a brick n mortar!

Yelp
Let's not even consider drive through line because people were so hyped to try this place. 2 drinks and order of 2 SMALL pastries for $16 ? I'd expect it to be amazing. Quite the opposite. Drinks were way too sweet and the Pastries didn't taste good. Lost My Business!

Yelp
Traveled 1.5 hours to visit this raved about experience only to be informed that at 4:30p that Cosmcs "line is closed" for the day. Very Very Disappointing. It is rather unprofessional to hype up this experience raving about its layout that mainstreams the "long lines" anticipated by the owners yet unable to maintain their reported and documented hours. Unlikely plan to return as half of a dining experience is the vibe and quite frankly, hard pass. Will simply go to Sonic for the equivocal beverages and McDonalds for the go to staples.
