The Best Coffee Shops in Burlington, Vermont | Eater Montreal

"Conveniently located on the pedestrian-only Church Street Marketplace, Cosmic Grind is a casual dog-friendly organic coffee shop for the less-serious coffee lover. With a friendly yet edgy-vibe, Cosmic offers CBD-infused oat milk lattes, house-made Italian sodas, iced cold brew, and more." - Heather Platt

Great place to be able to sit inside with your pup! It is a cozy place with 3 tables inside but we went in while it was raining outside and it was a very comfy place to be and have a delicious coffee. I got the Vermonter and it was a maple coffee.

Google
Fantastic coffee and good prices. This is one of my favorite spots near Church street for a quick caffeine fix. They have a tight but artistically tasteful layout. I stopped in for a Chai Latte and took it to go on my walk to the waterfront. The service was lightning fast and the line kept moving along. I was in and out in under 7 minutes despite having 3 people in front of me. Will be stopping here again in the future.

Google
What an absolutely beautiful space. Curated by a wonderful human and well known for its bangin' bevs. Even with the door being closed as of late, the place still remains a staple- and those who know about Cosmic knows its worth waiting for the "we're so back" era.

Visited here while on vacation in Burington. Genuinely one of the finest cups of coffee I've ever had. Freshly ground, tasted delicious and perfectly balanced. I just drink regular coffee & americanos, but my more adventurous partner reported that the specialty lattes were excellent as well. Good chance you'll see a friendly dog around too.

Google
Cosmic Grind is an amazing coffee shop in church street and if you haven’t been, make it your first stop next time you head into Burlington. The coffee is fresh, the interior (which you’ll just have to peep at from the glass windows as currently there is only takeaway service) is gorgeous, the service is friendly and quick, and there are so many options it’s hard to go wrong. You can also feel good supporting a business that supports and cares about the community it exists in. Personally I recommend a hot latte with hazelnut and maple for a delicious, nutty flavor! The “Red Velvet” latte is also a must try! Rich and chocolate-y without being too bitter or sweet. My only gripe was that the menu is so big and I’m so indecisive that I wished it was online so I could decide in advance! So now it’s posted here!

Google
One of the coolest coffee shops I’ve ever been to in this galaxy! 💫🛸🚀 Super tiny & cozy! Loveddddd the galaxy themed shop. The lighting added to the vibe. They offer a TON of unique coffee drinks with flavor combos I’ve never even HEARD of! Barista was super chill, welcoming & nice! The oat milk latte was tastyyyy & my husband loved his hot chocolate. Even if you aren’t a huge coffee fan- stop in here to just admire how COOL this spot is!

Google
Staff were very friendly. The coffee menu was HUGE! I’ve never seen so many specialty coffee drinks in one place. After awhile I couldn’t turn the pages any more, so I went with the Sugar on Snow. It was very good.

Shanah Bell

Google
The coffee was really good and the service was great. She helped us figure out which drinks would be the best for our tastes and discussed the local organic beans they use.

Yelp
I went to The Cosmic Grind with a few friends as we wanted to have a different coffee experience. I love iced mocha lattes. The Cosmic Grind has a binder filled with different latte combinations/orders and I got the Cookies and Cream flavour. It was definitely a balanced, delicious latte and I'm really happy I went. There was one barista working both the register and espresso machine. It was a little bit of a wait because it was one person taking true care in making this iced latte. The ambiance of The Cosmic Grind is definitely filled with paintings and colours to make you feel like you're in space. It is a small space and so on a busier day it might be cramped. This is a place to try if you love iced mochas or different kinds of lattes. It's not where you go to rush in and out with your coffee. I recommend trying it out!

Yelp
Awesome little coffee shop in the heart of church st. I loved the cosmic theme and the local art on the walls. The coffee was spot on and the perfect pick me up needed for an afternoon of window shopping with the girls.

Yelp
Small and cozy, with a nice "chill" ambiance but not a ton of seats. Definitely not a laptop-and-work cafe. Unfortunately it looks like the fun flavors available are all made with Torani syrup, which lent an unpleasant artifical taste to my Blue Dream latte (which was also a little lukewarm?)

Yelp
Very cool, trendy coffee shop with local art on the walls and a half-lit vibe...it was truly cosmic. Tight but in a good way. Loved my drink - had a new one called Escape From New York which was a delightful blend of flavors, butterscotch, vanilla...tied together with an orange peel on the bottom. The barista was amazing though. Polite, stylish and patient with my non-caffeinated brain. Thanks, friend!

Yelp
The lattes I had here were so exceptional that I didn't even want to try any other espresso shop in the area. The espresso was beyond smooth. Sweet, a long finish, and enhanced, not masked, by the addition of syrup and milk. I've lost track of the names of the lattes, but one was a honey cinnamon with gingerbread notes, and the other was lavender. Both were served with oat milk. The collegial staff is there to guide you through the menu. They say they have more than 40 flavor combinations. Why would I go anywhere else?

Yelp
Had a cold brew and iced latte on a hot Burlington summer morning here. My coffee was a little bitter and not particularly flavorful. It was drinkable but not great. The iced latté was just ok too. There's not a ton of space inside and it's more of a dark bar feeling kind of space for what you'd expect on Church street. Wi-Fi worked fine for doing some work and we were able to snag one of the few tables. Barista was super friendly and seemed to be on a first name basis with several of the customers coming in so clearly they have their regulars. I'd give Cosmic Grind another chance given the majority of overwhelming positive other reviews here but our experience was just so-so

Yelp
Wicked cool vibe, cool murals, but very tiny and felt like a million degrees. I had to wait outside for my latte. Asked for the Girl Scout latte and got a regular one. Didn't even finish it, wasn't good. Go to August 1st for a latte. Heck my hotel lobby has better lattes.
google avatar

Emily R.

Yelp
Cool space--it's pretty much a narrow hallway they repurposed into the shop. I wouldn't recommend sitting here to work though, as it's pretty dark. The barista was super helpful and friendly. Coffee was just ok, but it did the trick.

Yelp
The lights and far-out art work make for a pretty unique expression. Gets busy fast since it's such a small place. Staff gave off good vibes and were very efficient considering the amount of customers they bring in. I enjoyed the thin mint mocha. The flavor was not overpowering and it wasn't scorching hot so it was a great choice for me and I'd say it would be a great choice for you too.

Yelp
The Cosmic Grind was a dream!! It combines two of my favorite things, space and coffee. The baristas were the most friendly and the coffee was spectacular. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Pippi L.

Yelp
Went here for coffee a few times during our stay and the inside is a vibe. Dimly lit and galactic, with plenty of seats to enjoy a coffee. There was an entire binder full of drinks to choose from; ample options for everyone. Cole was extremely knowledgable, sweet, and helpful, and made conversation with almost every customer and knew everyone by name. Wish they had a location in NYC!
google avatar

Yelp
This hole-in-the-wall on Church Street is just overall cool. I loved the decor, lighting, and just overall space. It's certainly not a coffee shop where you can hang out and do work. I think the LED would get to you, and there truly isn't much space to sit. However, if you're looking to take a unique drink to go and get incredible customer service, I would totally recommend this place.
google avatar

Erin D.

Yelp
This was one of the best lattes I have had! I had the Vermonter made light sweet and it was so smooth. All the drinks we ordered were made with care, I highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Zac H.

Yelp
Great coffee! We loved the flavors, and just in principle I would like any place that has a latte named after the Death Star. The inside looks cool and has a good vibe, and the staff are all friendly and outgoing. The only downside is the interior is tiny and if they get busy you're squeezed in like a sardine can.
google avatar

Rheanna A.

Yelp
Amazing drinks made with care. Tried the thin mint and it tasted just like it! It was amazing. The barista was also incredibly friendly and able to give some recommendations. Plus she had some cookies behind the counter for my fur baby which won him over.
google avatar

Alexandra M.

Yelp
I had latte davis eyes which is like the London fog but with lavender. If you haven't had one ever, give it a go. If you've had one, I don't need to convince you to have one

Lauran B.

Yelp
Walk through the door on Church Street and into a cozy, friendly space with wonderful smells and service. The coffee here is great, with a big selection of different drinks available. If you're lucky, Stanley, the shop's resident dog, will be there too. If you're tired of the sterile coffee shops around Burlington, this is the place for you. Full of atmosphere and warmth. My favorite place on Church Street.

Yelp
Hip! Cool! Trendy! Fun! Smooth espresso? Not this one. It can be outdone. The Cosmic Grind caught our eye in Burlington because it looked really fun. Great Yelp reviews, unassuming exterior, and a dark and inviting interior that fit the Burlington-vibe like a missing puzzle piece. Fun drinks excited us: Rolo latte? Coffee with REAL VERMONT Maple syrup? This must be heaven! Unless heaven entails one barista serving a line of ten caffeine-seeking customers, overpriced drinks that are nothing more than lattes with a pump of flavoring, and sparse seating, the Cosmic Grind is not it. The Cosmic Grind is also not hell. It provides a new coffee shop experience that is arguably lacking in most cities: it isn't in a rush, it provides CB--infused drinks, and the service is quite friendly. TLDR: don't come for the coffee, come with a few extra bucks to spend on a new experience.

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall right in church street. I really liked the concept and their various mixes of flavored coffees. The barista making our coffee paid attention to the temperature of the milk which I appreciated. Some places just make it so hot you can't drink it for like 10 minutes, even in this cold weather. If you're into various flavored coffees, definitely check this place out!
google avatar

Ben S.

Yelp
A very narrow establishment with friendly staff that move quickly. I liked the drink I got. I just got a traditional drink, but they have lots of flavors. The menu was a bit overwhelming as the wall menu listed a large amount of named lattes but didn't define what any of them were flavor wise. Not my favorite coffee in the neighborhood, but a fun spot. I'd like to go back when there isn't a line to the door so I can poke around the menu more and ask questions without feeling rushed.

Yelp
The service here is UNMATCHED!!! We had a gentleman approach us and start an unwanted conversation and Cosmic Grind went above and beyond to make sure we were good! The coffee/Italian soda is perfect and I LOVE the small space!!! 11/10 recommend!

Sharon N.

Yelp
The kindness of the staff along with the care they take creating delicious coffee drinks ALONG with their very dog friendly policy made this coffee shop stand out in every way when I visited yesterday with my dog. I ordered "escape from LA" mocha - the attention to detail including orange peel /zest in the drink was so unique. You can tell the staff take pride in their work !

Yelp
The Cosmic Grind is a cool little coffeeshop on the bustling Church Street in downtown Burlington. It's not a hang out and get work done type of coffeeshop as there is no real seating - it's definitely a grab and go place. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a coffee after breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised at the cool vibe and fun artwork. Their logo is a space dog and there's a big mural of him on one wall. The vibe is dark and moody - or maybe spacey! Prices were average for a coffee shop and you can add CBD to any latte. I ordered an iced chai latte which was okay but nothing special, mostly milk. The guy working the counter was very friendly and chill and super polite! I will definitely stop in again the next time I'm in Burlington and get a regular latte next time.

Remedios B.

Yelp
I had the iced Hazelnut Brittle. It was refreshing, delicious, and a great start to my morning. I loved the vibe of the place, as well as the warm employees who greeted us.

L P.

Yelp
Probably okif you want flavored espresso drink, since they had many options, but the straight espresso drinks we had there were not great. Many better places for coffee in Burlington.
google avatar

Markus B.

Yelp
Funky place with a cool vibe and an awesome mascot. Friendliest service for coffee on Church St too, won't mention by name but there's another place with the initials BC, pretty unbelievable how employees mocked their customers when they didn't think they were looking. Which led me here, and now it's my permanent coffeehouse.
google avatar

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Legit the best coffee we've ever had. It's such a cool spot and the guys there awesome. Because of Covid, We knocked on the door and they came to grab our order, and then brought it to us it was ready! So great would love to go back

Kennedy L.

Yelp
I don't drink coffee but I have friends that do and I went in. It was dark and kinda creepy but they seemed to like it.
google avatar

Rafia Z.

Yelp
Amazing coffee! Such a cute little coffee shop. I loved their vanilla latte. Definitely will come again!

Sam P.

Yelp
The Vermonter latte (latte w/ maple syrup) was delicious! Small spot in the Church St. area.
google avatar

Liliana T.

Yelp
Love the variety of coffee flavors and their names. The drinks are well balanced! We tried their "not the gum drop buttons" and "sour diesel". Both were very tasty!
google avatar

Kelsey F.

Yelp
Yummy yummy, stopped in here to grab a quick coffee before breakfast added the cbd to my soy latte and it was lovely. Cool decor and nice barista!

Madison P.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere, friendly staff, just the type of place that I don't personally like, this is the type of place you enjoy if you like the taste of syrup rather than actual coffee

Christian S.

Yelp
You NEED to come here. Super friendly staff, amazing coffee, and good vibes. Their iced latte with homemade brown sugar syrup and vanilla put the Starbucks Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso to shame. I have come here every day on my vacation here, and have loved it. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu, and there's is lots of their menu...
google avatar

Torrie G.

Yelp
Loved all the different drink and flavor options! The lattes taste amazing. Just difficult because you can't wait inside for your order so it's v cold in the winter on church street. But that never stops me! Definitely recommend
google avatar

Yelp
The Cosmic Grind is a uniquely Burlington cafe and experience. The drinks are fun, unique, and sugary! There is a plentiful amount of specialty drinks alongside classics like cappuccinos, mochas, and lattes. Recently, they switched from a Speeder and Earl's franchise to an independent location serving organic coffee from Jay Peak owned Backcountry coffee. For anyone missing the old Speeder's location, Ian and the crew have left (although renamed) every specialty drink and brew of coffee that the old Speeder's location had. Cole, Rebekah, and Dan have great knowledge of their products and are very informative. The location is amazing, basically an alleyway with a roof, hand painted in a deep space collage by the owner's younger brother, Colin Senesac, a local Burlington artist. Bottom Line: if you're a no-frills, everyday good coffee kind of person, or a young person looking for something sweet and as fun as a Starbucks, you can support a great local business by getting coffee at The Cosmic Grind. I love this location and so should you!

Anya M.

Yelp
Church Street is the perfect location for this little shop. Great coffee, chill staff, and a cool vibe!
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
This cute and very tiny coffee shop is unique to church street. Unlike most coffee shops that are spacious and filled with tables, you enter the cosmic grind and are instantly in a narrow outer space dimension (walls painted black with solar paintings). There is only a few very small tables so not the place to get studying done or chill for a long stay. Great place to grab and go! Sooooo many choices and everything is custom made. A bit on the pricy side for giving it four stars.

Alexis C.

Yelp
The two baristas were both incredibly friendly and kind. They have such a unique and big menu with anything you could ever think of. One of the baristas took the time to talk to my mom about the lavender syrup she made (which was amazing by the way). Such a gem!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm on the search for Vermont's best cold brew, and have to say it's not at The Cosmic Grind. It tasted more like iced coffee than cold-brewed coffee; pretty watery. It was also $4.50 for a 16oz, which is on the pricier side for the area. Cool atmosphere in the place though. Maybe I'll come back by for something hot and see if it's any better.
google avatar

Brittney C.

Yelp
Cool vibe. Staff was very welcoming, offered alternative drinks because I'm lactose intolerant. Love the mural on the walls. Chai was delicious, highly recommend .
google avatar

Emma W.

Yelp
super cool inside, there's fun artwork on the walls to look at, it's a very chill and "vibey" atmosphere. great barista too :) my iced macchiato was so good!
google avatar

Tess C.

Yelp
I love their coffee, especially the specialty mochas. The staff is always wonderful and ready to answer any questions you may have.
google avatar

Jade G.

Yelp
Stopped in spur of the moment for a simple black coffee. We were impressed at the menu offerings and the decor. We opted for cappuccinos with double shots and the others got chai lattes and a dose of the cbd oil. All drinks were delicious! I live in Brooklyn and I felt that I was in a spot from home because of the cool vibe. Will definitely return when I'm in Burlington.
google avatar

Danielle P.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to stop for coffee on church street before work in the morning ! The cold brew is delicious and the staff is super friendly and always quick

James S.

Yelp
Boys and gals, I'll be very honest with you all: The Cosmic Grind is perhaps the best coffee spot I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The vibe, staff, and the MASSIVE menu all repeatedly have me leaving with a smile on my face! I've been going to this place for quick coffee pick ups for just barely more than a year now and I STILL have yet to try everything on the menu, let alone find a drink that I don't like. The complex flavor combinations created here are honestly unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. Nevertheless, The Cosmic Grind is to good for this world and that's my 2¢.
