Best Cafes Between Portland and Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Located near Wright Park in Tacoma, Cosmonaut has built a loyal following since its beginning in 2007. While the shop is small, Cosmonaut is impossible to miss with its colorful blue and red mural of a Russian astronaut. Coffees served here are medium to light roast and from renowned Cat & Cloud, based out of Santa Cruz, California, and it also serves a wonderful cardamom latte, using syrup made by the folks at MyChai in Bend, Oregon." - Seiji Nanbu

I tried 3 drinks today. It’s rare that i drink a cortado. Thanks to Savanna, I was pleasantly surprised that the cortado (w/ dark chocolate, soy & honey) she had prepared for me was excellent. It was bold yet smooth, not bitter and not acidic. The Beetroot Cardamom Latte was also superb. Since many also wrote about their hot chocolate, I tried it as well (yes, my 3rd drink). Hot chocolate was good - smooth chocolatey drink that’s not overly sweet. I appreciate the charm of the cafe’s space and the people running the cafe. Will be back.

Love it here and come every year when I come for a visit! Staff is great and it's a cool atmosphere. Especially love the beet latte!

Google
Cute and cozy place with friendly hospitable service and excellently crafted coffee. I loved my cortado. The barista made us feel like old friends at home and recommended some fantastic local hiking that was as magical as she promised. We’d love to spend more time because the vibes were immaculate and chill.

I found this little coffee shop on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly the owner was and just the entire chill laid back vibe in there. After I was that corny person who didn’t notice all of the “no white chocolate mocha” signs and attempted to order one, I ordered a caramel macchiato and got a really fun and unique history lesson on the origins of Tacoma from the owner while I waited. Some regulars chimed in and I really enjoyed the friendly open atmosphere from people who you could tell come there allot and love the place. It kind of looks like a watering hole for older guys to hang out but it’s just coffee, and very good coffee at that! Strong but still artfully crafted. Check this place out if you want some really good coffee with some old school grit and heart from a long time Tacoma local.

This coffee shop is a show stopper! You walk in and feel like you are being greeted by an old friend. Seriously delicious coffee and beverages. I hope you are lucky enough to be serviced by Van. They are on top of their game!! Thank you Cosmonaut for being a Tacoma staple. Stay kind and tip your baristas! :)

Google
Ten stars all the way across. We were just visiting, but out of a dozen or so coffee places across Seattle and Tacoma, my wife says they have the best lattes - and I agree! Only place we made sure to squeeze in again before we left.

Yesterday morning I woke up in the apartment of one of my best friends after arriving in Tacoma for the first time to visit them. When we finally had enough motor skills to walk, we wandered up the road to Cosmonaut Coffee. This was hands down, one of the absolute best experiences I have ever had in a coffee shop. So much so that this morning we came back just so I could get another cup before I leave. I have been drinking coffee for over 20 years and this was one of the greatest cups of coffee I have tasted. I don’t know the name of the barista working but it was the same person who made our coffee yesterday and today. This morning I caught myself just staring in amazement as they prepared the drinks my friends and I ordered. It was very clear how much care, attention and pride they took in making a great cup of coffee. I wish I lived in Tacoma just for the simple desire to come here every morning to experience the artistry and craftsmanship in making coffee.

Google
We stopped by while walking our dog to get a couple of lattes to go. Friendly barista had some dog treats for our pup and did a great foam drawing. Interesting selection of books to browse while waiting for your coffee. Right across the street from Wright Park

Yelp
My husband and I are pretty particular about coffee, as we make decent espresso regularly at home. Coffee shops that blow us away are few and far between, but we both agreed that Cosmonaut was one of them after our first sip! It was a blazing hot day, so we had an iced Americano and a cold brew. An Americano is my default order, so the beans really are critical for me. I loved the espresso so much that I looked up whose beans they use right off the bat. I'm personally not a fan of most cold brews due to the chocolate-y notes they can have, but my husband noted Cosmonaut's was the best he's had. If we find ourselves in Tacoma again, we'll be sure to return to Cosmonaut!

Yelp
What can't I say about cosmonaut?! Great coffee, great service, ample parking and walking distance from the park. Extremely friendly baristas who are very knowledgeable in espresso making. I love their seasonal honey and option to buy their in-house coffee beans! Not only do they offer seasonal treats like donuts, cookies and cakes but also seasonal honey (clover, blueberry, marshmallow root, + more! This is a lgbtq+ friendly establishment, that is adamant about sharing their Narcan Information & distribution options to the community! The things we don't often talk about end up becoming the things that destroy us! I love that they're involved with their people and spreading awareness. They offer a spot to sit outside as well as inside that has a collection of their personal artworks, their own personal merchandise, that is SUPER cute and unique! An espresso slow drip machine, for at home espresso creations! And so much more! I request their mushroom mocha w/ oat milk, 8g of protein plus a reishi stimulation?! Yes, please!

Yelp
Small coffee shop across Wright Park. The cafe is up a set of stairs with a small parking lot in front. I ordered a latte with their house made brown sugar syrup which was good. The service was friendly and there is a kitschy but community driven feel to the cafe.

Yelp
First of all, wow love the vibe. Put that love right up front and back it up! coffee is great. That touch of Dark Chocolate is perfect in my big quad latte. Really love the arts and artifacts on display. A real "This is MY house" attitude which I admire and respect.

Michael M.

Yelp
Where else can you listen to Hound Dog Taylor singing "Sadie," have an Ethiopian coffee with white peach, and listen to a conversation on Corn Dogs while sitting next to a photo of Valentina Tereshkova, the first female astronaut in space. Eclectic at first glance! Electric coffee at its best. Michael

Yelp
The service was friendly and the latte was delicious! They also have a small assortment of pastries that are better than average, in my opinion. There is a small patio outside that looks over Wright Park that is a little tight, but is pleasant!

Albert D.

Yelp
Cosmonaut is my personal savior from the hell of franchise coffee. No matter how simple or how complicated I want my drink, Cosmo delivers the goods. Taking a walk in Wright Park? Bring your Stanley mug to Cosmo and get your drink to go. Getting ready to drive down to Proctor for the Farmer's Market, or Ruston Waterfront? Cosmo is on the way! Swing by for a mean cortado or the lightest fluffiest oat milk vanilla latte this site of the narrows. Do you like treats? Heck yeah you do! Come in for local artisanal donuts, muffins, cookies, bags of beans, and honey! OH GOD THE HONEY IS SOOOOO GOOOOOD. Seriously, Cosmo is where you want to be if you want to get plugged into the Tacoma scene. Ask for recommendations. Ask for highlights. Ask about activism. Ask whatever you want. Cosmo has an answer. Heck, I sometimes come in and get a straight drip just so I can ask for relationship advice. (The answer is always coffee. Duh.) (Oh, and be a good patron: bring cash and save us all from the insane card service fees that line the cashback pockets of the gentrifiers.)

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but I was pretty disappointed. I enjoy the name and it's eclectic theme. The barista was very friendly. But I basically paid over $5 ($4 + tax + tip) for mildly flavored water. I don't drink coffee anymore and just wanted an earl grey tea to wake me up. I had grabbed my tea and drove away and when I took my first sip when I thought it had cooled down enough I was horrified to discover that the tea hadn't brewed long enough. I opened the lid and saw that the tea bag wasn't in there and the color of the tea was a very very VERY light brown. Either they didn't put enough tea leaves (if it was even loose leaf), or the water wasn't hot enough, or it wasn't steeped for long enough. But it's not that hard to brew tea... The barista would've been better off just leaving the tea bag in there. So disappointed.

Yelp
Best coffee in the world . Look forward to coming here every Sunday ! The vanilla bean syrup completes the drink

Yelp
We had 2 lattes, both were better or at the least just as good as Bluebeards & Valhalla. We were told the syrups were not made in-house but that they are sourced locally. Barista/owner totally awesome & the vibe very vintage grit. We will be back no doubt!

Yelp
Cosmonaut Coffee Co. Ratings: 4.4/5 Food: 5/5 - This is such a great find in Tacoma. I would say my first coffee experience in Seattle definitely exceeded my expectation. I am excited to try out other coffee places here. See the description of the coffee I got. - Latte w/ Almond Milk [GET]: This latte was delicious. I love the creaminess and consistency from the milk foam. Coffee is very smooth to drink and strong, yet there's no taste of burnt flavor or acidity either. I love that there's a light, nutty aroma in this coffee. I literally finished this coffee real quick, and was craving for more. Ambiance: 4.25/5 - A super small and hole-in-the-wall coffee shop in Tacoma. It is a little funky looking, a bit eccentric, but a very laid down and causal vibe. It got a retro and spacey vibe to it, maybe because of the name, LOL. There's a ton of coffee mugs, coffee beans, and stickers for sale. This is a great spot for coffee, but expect it to be grab and go type of place; absolutely no space to sit, because it is tiny. Price: 4/5 - I got a 12oz latte with almond milk for around $6. All coffee comes with whole milk, so any milk substitution will be $0.75 extra if I remember correctly. The price is a bit on the pricier side, but I can tell it's high quality coffee, so I don't mind paying more for good coffee. Service: 4.25/5 - I enjoyed speaking with the owner about coffee. He was really friendly and welcoming. Felt like I was speaking to a friend than a stranger. I also requested almond milk and ask him to make me a pretty latte art, and he was very accommodating with all my requests. I appreciate the nice service. BLUF: I will be back for sure when I visit Tacoma again. Cosmonaut is one of the better coffee shops that I have tried. Tasty coffee, amazing service, and fun atmosphere, so please try it out when you get a chance or in the area. If you are bold enough, they got lots of interesting and unique coffee drinks there for you to try too!

Yelp
Been here a handful of times now! My favorite drinks are the mushroom coffee and the espresso tonic.

Yelp
First time here since I'm rarely in Tacoma, but it is a simple seven-minute walk from the Tacoma General hospital. The coffee shop is in an upstairs portion of a smaller building and is not ADA accessible, has a small outside standing area and only enough room inside for two people to wait in line. The mocha was nothing special, basically no chocolate to be tasted but the espresso was nice and smooth. The pastry was flaky like a classic-style pie crust, the jammy filling was not very sweet, and the best bite was the middle with the strongest berry flavor. Both items together after tax were about $11.50 so fairly comparable to a chain caffe. The barista did say hi to me when I got up to the counter but they didn't seem very friendly, then announced that they were putting my drink on the counter to the side of the register, but didn't say thanks for coming in/have a good day/etc. I'd most likely try the other coffee shop that is within a block of this one rather than going back.

Yelp
Don't let the cutesy photo fool you, this shop has the worst drinks I've had. The iced matcha was warm and had so many chunks I was chewing my matcha drink, matcha stuck all over my teeth. The jasmine iced tea felt like drinking a bath bomb. The beetroot cardamom latte was decent until I got a literal beetroot stuck in my tooth. Not to mention that they use the USSR as an aesthetic, as someone with parents who had to live through it: it's not cute. Coffee was fine but any of the alternatives weren't good, (cardamom cortado was bomb tho).

Yelp
Simply the best coffee I have ever had! Wish there was another location . And the owner is great and so helpful!

Yelp
I want to like this place more than I do. Somewhat gritty and rugged, and with a definite theme that is hard to describe but could be part biker, part 80s alternative punk, part space-themed. Dark inside, and small - I don't recall any seating indoors. Small outdoor patio with maybe seating for six. My cortado was just okay. On another day I came back for an affogatto (vanilla ice cream with espresso) the ice cream was the stingiest serving I've ever been given. The woman running the place is efficient but not all that friendly.

James B.

Yelp
One of my favorite cafes in Tacoma, I love the design and location as well as the coffee and snacks. They also are very chill about my service dog which is great! It's a little expensive for a cafe but imo it's worth it. I just wish they didn't have such limited hours, they're only open until 2pm so good luck getting there before it closes if you're not able to go in the morning.

Zachary S.

Yelp
This place has great coffee and tea and cool people to meet here. They are nice and the owner has a high knowledge of tea and coffee . The regulars are nice and will engage in conversation with you.

Jamie H.

Yelp
This is my first ever bad review, something to consider. This was also our first and last time going to Cosmonaut Coffee, sad to say. We just moved in across the street and wanted to check out our new normal spot. The woman working there today was unbelievably cold, zero greeting, was rude to my husband asking a very simple question, and when we asked where her tip jar was, her response was "right in front of you where it says tips" We walked out completely shocked and said "fuck that place" Anyways, I was a barista for a decade, and on my worst day I would not dream of being even light years close to as rude as that woman was. We were nothing but nice and even overly friendly because her cold nature made us so uncomfortable. We were hoping for a cool spot to be regulars at. This is why people stick with Starbucks I guess. If she wasn't working there anymore, we'd be back.

Yelp
Such a great find!! I love this eclectic coffee shop...so much character from the decor to the barista! The coffee is delicious and I was even able to purchase a carton of my fave oat milk, Oat-ly!! They have honey for sale, Cosmonaut swag, coconut water, spindrift, and coffee of course. Enjoy your drink on their adorable 2nd story outdoor patio!

Alexis W.

Yelp
Such a great local coffee shop!! The coffee tasted luxurious and the vibe was fun, kind of grungy and trendy, really cool decor and merch. I got a vanilla late with oat milk and my bf got a dirty chai. both were amazing. great workers, amazing vibe.
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
A small funky little coffeeshop with zero frills. They offer straight forward coffee drinks, bags of coffee to go, and some of the most fun stickers I have ever seen. There was also jars of local honey that were not priced too high, so if you're looking for some local, small batch honey and a killer Coronado (look it up, it's delicious) hit up Cosmonaut, Comrades.
google avatar

Yelp
Just a short note to say Ihad an amazing latte here today. I enjoyed speaking with the owner about funky atomic space-age flotsam and jetsam (Jetson? Punny, can't help it, groan away!). It is in my neighborhood, so I will return. For now it is takeout and porch seating only, but it is located across from Wright Park for walking. Fun decor and logo items to buy.
google avatar

Geoff P.

Yelp
It was fine, drinks aren't sweet. Barista seemed to be grumpy. Also hard to tell if they are open or not. Also on the pricy side.
google avatar

Yelp
You won't find a better cappuccino anywhere.. Truly the best coffee you can find prepared with kindness and love veiled by a beard. All are welcome here in this eccentric, eclectic, wonderful place.

Yelp
GREAT coffee shop. Perfect/Delicious lattes. Will go again and again. Help them out and pay cash if you can!

Yelp
For some reason, 'Cosmonaut' just caught my attention enough to come check 'er out. Definitely a cool, unique little spot that sort of has an old 'retro spacey' feel to it; probably blamed on the name, haha. Staying at a nearby inn, I went for a morning walk to this place. The dude working was chill & friendly. I was only half sure what I wanted and then he sort of interjected with a smooth "---or both soy & hemp or almond & hemp---", or something similar to that effect (2 milks combined). I was like 'hm! ok, that sounds interesting.' I think a shortie latte and/or chai. I don't recall the bakery items but they sound good for next time. Cool beans!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute retro comic theme and cozy atmosphere. Tons of little tin robots and aliens. There are a few parking spaces in their lot, other than that, there is street parking nearby. They have a little patio which is nice, the inside is cute and rustic, but small. I've been here a few times now and have ordered different drinks each time. I've been pleased each time with said drinks and with the laid back, friendly baristas. I'm a little sad that I have never received latte art on any of my lattes or other drinks. I anxiously tip my cup expecting a pretty design to take a pic of, but nope. No pretty leaf for me. (I'm a child, yes.) I don't know if you have to ask for latte art or what, that seems a bit awkward so probably not. Maybe there's a secret pass word? ;)
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Enjoyed my almond milk cortado! You can tell they care about the quality of their shots, the milk. Cool atmosphere with good stuff to read. But I'm not super in to dogs, which are welcome in this establishment. I'll be back for sure. Be awesome to see them turn the rooftop into a green roof. Its mind meltingly hot in the summer.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
a FULL 5 star. I love hole in the wall and even better space related hole in the wall that has everything - steamer and Stevia were just the two things I need this afternoon and they did have the supply - Yuri Gagarin was my dude and I got a mug and a pin but this place is hands down the best local joint in seattle
google avatar

Shisheen H.

Yelp
Was here today for the first time. Very small spot so, you can overlook it while driving. It's a nice cozy small spot with good coffee and prices are very close to Starbucks for a 12-16oz Cappuccino, latte etc.. The inside is very neat with round tables and chairs for seating. It's a good spot for a introductory date or just to meetup for coffee and a conversation. It's near a nice park and a botanical conservatory.
google avatar

Angie A.

Yelp
There are not many places that you can say the coffee is spot on and the customer service is the same. This is one of those places. I had a hair service scheduled next door at Supernova and stopped in with my hubby to grab a cuppa joe. We inadvertently ran into the owner and one of the employees in the parking lot. He was friendly and just straight awesome. The best part comes when we ordered our coffee. My husband ordered a mocha and I ordered a macchiato. His was not too sweet and wonderfully creamy and artfully poured. Mine was in a little ceramic cup and tasted like coffee flavored nectar of the gods. It was so smooth I almost gulped it down in one sip! I was able to restrain myself, just barely. They've definitely made a customer for life. We'll be coming back as often as possible!
google avatar

Bo H.

Yelp
My initial review was removed erroneously so I'm reposting it. I walked into the shop about 8 minutes before the listed closing time on the door. The barista looked up at me startled- he said "Sorry, I forgot to lock the door. We are closed" I replied "But according to the door you still have several minutes before closing." Barista says "I decided to close early" This is my firsthand customer experience. It should never have happened. Businesses should, without fail, make every attempt to honor the hours posted on their doors. Anything less is terrible customer service.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Top shelf coffee shop. Probably not the place to bring all your school books for a marathon study sesh; they have a few tables inside and outside but it's pretty small. But definitely the place to grab a stellar coffee and have a chat with the barista. James is super friendly and remembered my wife and I when we went back on another of our date nights. If you're feeling adventurous, try a cardamum latte. It's awesome.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Debated on 3 stars but gave it 4 - read on for why: My boyfriend and I got a pour over and a teeny latte and a sticker = almost $20? I guess it's my fault, I should've checked the prices first. But for such a small latte and imo the pour over tasted like potato water... That just imo but if you know your coffee, don't listen to me - I think a coffee connoisseur might've thought differently, and my boyfriend drank the whole thing no problem. My latte was good, but nothing I'd go there specifically for, it was a little different than others, but not my favorite. The man that helped us was super cool - I wanted a dirty chai but he said the chai needs to be on it's own. And I needed more caffeine than that so he just said to get a latte. They had cool stuff out, business cards from locals etc. Some fancy lookin coffee for sale. The place feels like a tree house, parking can be hard to come by. I like the style, but this is really a stop for a coffee expert - not me who can get a huge crappy latte for cheap from anywhere and be just as happy. I debated going 3 stars because I didn't feel that my money was well spent, but I'll give it 4 because the service was friendly, he seems to know his coffee stuff, the style of the place was unique and there was no line. Maybe not for me, but no reason not to recommend it for someone else.

Yelp
Cosmonaut has become one of my favorites spots to stop for coffee. Everything is good here. The espresso is perfect. The coffee is perfect. The cold brew is really strong but it's delicious. Every time I've gone in the baristas have been extremely friendly. There isn't much seating, so it's not the best place to study or get work done... but the coffee is so good.

Bethany L.

Yelp
My husband, our kids, and myself have had coffee here many times. Mostly because it's near wright park (where our kids play), and because it is a Pokémon gym for the app Pokémon Go. The coffee was mediocre at best, and overpriced, but it was a convenient spot to play the game, and have a coffee. Today we parked at Cosmonaut Coffee to battle at the Pokémon gym (the battle lasts less than 4 minutes). We, along with some other Pokémon players were greeted with a knock on our window by bearded employee of Cosmonaut Coffee telling us we needed to leave the parking lot if we were playing Pokemon. We simply said "ok", and were willing to move, but he continued berating us with a very poor and unprofessional attitude. Had he took the time to ask us about the game, he would have realized we would have been there less than 4 minutes. Also, if he doesn't want people playing the game in his parking lot, then he should request to have the gym removed. I'm willing to bet, though, that if the gym is removed, they will lose a large portion of their business. Mostly because several people in the Pokémon community order coffee from there regularly. They lost our business for good. Had he had a nicer attitude, then perhaps this review would be different.

Yelp
Hands down my go-to coffee place in all of Tacoma, Cosmonaut's got the laid down vibe and amazing choice in latte's you crave. As a late bloomer to coffee, a big chunk of my schoolin' has been here.

Yelp
The Satellite Coffee location that I went to off of 6th in the MASA building left. When I went to ask the MASA hostess about what happened to them she said that this location closed but that there was another location around downtown but the name changed and she did not remember what it was called. Well it took a couple of months to figure it out but this place is no longer called Satellite Coffee but Cosmonaut Coffee. It is located in the same building and all and from going off of previous pictures pretty much looks the same. The coffee shop is on top of another building. The space of the establishment is still pretty small but better than the one on 6th where there was no place to sit. This place has some benches and is decorated Space Race fabulous with a hint of 1960's modern art love from the lamp in there. The tables are fun as they have the solar system and various satellites on them. To make the fun yet simple decor even more exciting they sell Soviet symboled shirts and hoodies! Yay! The coffee is just as good as when they were under the Satellite Coffee moniker. The mochas and the lattes are great! They have a small pastry case which contains delicious items! I really enjoy the Squash Bread that they have here! Even coffee snobs seems to like this place because as I sit enjoying my coffee and bread I overhear terms and just a certain kind of talk that only coffee aficionados would use! I'm thinking this is my "go to" coffee shop for Tacoma!

Yelp
The BEST coffee in Tacoma. The BEST. Excellent Stumptown coffee, prepared better by the Satellite baristas than some of Stumptown's own. (had a lousy latte at the Stumptown on Division in PDX just a few weeks ago), Coke made with real sugar, an Americano with honey, insanely well crafted syrups and the best atmosphere (albeit tiny). Feel good about supporting local business and drinking Fair Trade beans, if I have to pay a little more for quality & to support these things - so be it. However, the prices for drinks aren't out of line with better establishments: a 16 oz. latte is $3.75 (granted, it's one shot). A small drip is $1.75 - a 16 oz drip is 2.75. You add some of their excellent syrup for the usual .50 cents. Considering that a shitty (or decent) cup of drip coffee in any restaurant is usually $2.00 anymore...I don't think that's too bad. The baked goods, when they aren't sold out, are delicious and well priced - $2 for a big blueberry scone. One quibble might be they should carry a wee bit more for us fatties. VIVA SATELLITE!!
google avatar

Seth D.

Yelp
For a Marxist establishment, they sure do like taking advantage of their capitalist privileges with ironically HIGH pricing for a shithole-in-the-wall shop. I knew this spot was going downhill the moment I paid $8 for an AMERICANO. All while the owner is trying to convince me that I should buy cold-brew instead- because he actually didn't know how to pull proper espresso and had to work the bar since he ALSO couldn't manage to keep his only sensible employees (the only reason I ever started going there in the first place). "But shouldn't I feel bad for not tipping my barista?" -Oh wait that's capitalistic, so no of course not.. evil capitalism do you think I'll be supporting horrible capitalistic business models while simultaneously forcing pinko agenda down my throat? Lol I'm back to home brew and my iq just went up 10 points
google avatar

Saori T.

Yelp
Love, love, love this spot. James is theeeeee bomb diggity. They take a lot of pride in their skills and espresso knowledge. It is locally owned and no -franchise type of spot and the many regular faces make you feel at home.

Yelp
Espresso done right....most of the time. To date, I've had one barista actually stirrrrred the heck out of my shots after putting in a tiny bit of steamed milk, so I didn't like that. I know you need to add the milk to the shots quickly so it doesn't go wrong, but the long metal spoon that dripped with water wasn't necessary when she was already to add the steamed milk/foam...that does the trick for the rest of them! All the other baristas don't do this....That being said, you can get a gooood cup of espresso here...they pull them at the right time, and MOST make amazing stiff foam with the teeniest of bubbles. One gal always makes the foam on my cappucinno dance out of the cup, so that it looks like a muffin top (which attests to it's great density) Hopefully they can all learn from her ways. Never tasted the dainties, but they do look good...some day, when calories aren't an issue, I'll splurge :-) The whole beans are great. They get them super fresh from Stumptown in Seattle, and the roast dates are marked on the bags. I like the huge variety of coffee regions and that they roast mainly to a medium, which is the way good coffee should be enjoyed. I know some of the baristas may come off as unfriendly, but in comparison to the kids at Starbucks with their chirpy dolphin-like "how is your day going? Are you out shopping today? Have a GREAT day!" that is repeated to each customer, I'd rather have the cold shoulder of the focused barista who is out to make a mean cup of joe for my $$$ any day.

Yelp
Some of the best coffee you'll ever have. Not just because they serve Stumptown, but because the people there know and love coffee. And you can taste it in every cup! Every time I go in there I get a new recommendation. From what beans to get to what style of coffee fits my current needs and every time I'm blown away. (Thanks for the latest suggestion of the best cold brew I've ever had.) The deck is the perfect place for our beautiful summer days. I could sit out there for hours just listening to the sounds of the park and people watching from the perfect high up little perch.

Yelp
This is our local coffee shop - we live a few blocks from here and stop in pretty regularly. Even the so-so baristas pull some pretty good coffee and the great ones pull some great coffee. They've completely converted me to Stumptown beans, which I wasn't sure of before. Rarely over-roasted, consistently good. If you have dairy allergies, this is the place to go. They always have rice milk available for me (and I'm apparently not the only person that orders it because I frequently get the end of the container) and the menu boasts soy, almond, coconut, and rice milk. They frequently have a gluten-free, dairy-free treat available if that's a thing you need. Why only four stars, then? I wish there was more seating - there's always one person camping the table near the door with a laptop - leaving a tall bar (no good for kids) and the one table by the retail sales section. It's nice to be able to carry my coffee over to Wright Park but sometimes I'd like to sit in a warm, dry place with a cup that's not paper. Parking is also quite an issue - they have a lot but I've witnessed many near-accidents in it, three cars at most.

Yelp
Really sweet little place hidden in the nooks and crannies of downtown Tacoma. Ran by a man who's passionate about his coffee. If you like a good cup of caffeine, this is definitely a cool little local business that you wanna check out and support. Love you PB!

Yelp
I stopped by after a nightshift at one of the local hospitals and I was pleasantly surprised by the service and the quality of my latte. I happen to like hemp milk lattes but there aren't a lot of places that offer hemp milk - this place did! While I was waiting, the barista offered me samples of syrup flavors. They were all tasty and subtle, perfect for a cheeky latte. I'm definitely going to come back and try them. The espresso was pulled well and the hemp latte I purchased was smooth. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Very cool, unexpected little coffee shop in Tacoma. Stumbled in here looking for a place to get a little work done before driving to Seattle. VERY fun setting, and I highly recommend trying their lattes (you'll end up with some coffee art for the day)!
