I initially booked a night at The Cosmopolitan Hotel not knowing the haunted history behind it. The historical charm, aesthetic, and location in Old Town is what prompted me to book here. The hotel was featured on paranormal shows; paranormal investigators stay here to document ghostly activity. I'm sensitive to these things but was excited to stay nonetheless. Luckily I did not book a haunted room which are supposedly rooms 4/5 and 11. We stayed in room 8, The Stockton room.
First off, I spoke with the manager Dee on the phone who is nothing short of awesome. The room itself is clean and super cute with high ceilings. The queen bed is comfy, not the comfiest but comfortable enough for a good night's sleep. The decor was antique. We felt taken back to the 1800's-early 1900's. Love that there is no TV yet strong wifi. The AC worked just fine. The Stockton Room has an updated spacious bathroom. The only con is there was no blowdryer - I had to settle for wet hair on a dreary day. I informed Dee so hopefully it has been replaced.
The surrounding area is amazing. I loved looking out from the balcony onto the park. Breakfast was served on our cute outdoor table at 8am. The little courtyard was awesome too - I can't wait for the restaurant to be open! I love that it is fenced all around. You need a key to get on the grounds. This made me feel safe at night. Perk: inclusive reserved parking!
We ate at Casa de Reyes and New Orleans Creole Cafe. Again, the location is excellent! We walked around for a bit to check out all the cute shops. Fell asleep around 1030pm. It was super quiet with the occasional train horn.
Now for the haunting:
I won't bore you to death because nothing too exciting occurred. I had strange dreams and woke up around 3am spooked. The dreams didn't make sense but they consisted of people dressed up as demons or devils. I did not go back to sleep until 5am. It was not because I was scared, I just could not sleep. But luckily my partner slept like a baby. Between 3am-5am, I distinctly heard horse galloping right outside the front of the hotel. Maybe there really is a horse who rides or walks around this time? I do not know and did not get up to look, but it definitely was horse gallops. For a moment, I felt a lapse in time as I stared at the curtains. I seriously did not know what year it was: It was so quiet. All our lights were off which made it incredibly dark. Listening to the gallops transported me back in time. It felt comforting, actually. Also, a light in the bathroom flickered off and on. Other than that, I did not feel negative energy nor did we experience paranormal activity, unless those friendly gallops belonged to the graciously departed.
I would love to get a group of friends to stay here with next time.
If you're a history buff and into paranormal things, just book it!
