I really hate telling you the latest experience at one of my very favorite stores--Costco, but I have written to HQ, submitted this info to their magazine, and put in suggestions at my store, and things have actually gotten worse, not better.
Usually, Costco does their research and is ahead of the trend, but when it comes to dreaded CANOLA OIL, they are actually adding it to or purchasing it in more and more of their products. That is bad news for children and parents. Canola's health risks are so bad that anyone doing basic research will learn it is extremely hydrogenated to lessen the presence of the Hexane chemical used to extract the oil from rapeseed.
To let you know how much they DO know this is bad, they (Monsanto) has now begun to call rapeseed a vegetable. That is a BIG stretch. Yes seeds are plants--but by no stretch of imagination are they vegetables, and their processing makes them a bad choice. This trans fat attacks brains, kidneys, and livers.
Unfortunately, it is now present in everything from baked goods to mayonaise, and to almost any foods that are packaged (like airline snack foods).
PLEASE COSTCO stop making us read every label to avoid this poison. And, please do your research:
Mehmet Oz, M.D.
The Gene Therapy Plan identifies how the lives we lead, and in particular, the foods and nutritional supplements we ingest, are a key determining factor in whether latent disease (which most people have to some degree) materializes or stays dormant. By identifying researched nutritional protocols that target specific conditions, and by providing a range of rich case studies from his practice as a leading oncologist and internist, Dr. Gaynor provides insight and an action plan into how the body operates that will benefit medical practitioners and patients alike.

But, thanks for changing your butter croissants to ALL butter, and taking out the Canola from these. We'll give you that.
