Grocery Store Safety: Which Chains Are Doing It Best? - Eater

"Costco, too, has raised hourly base pay by $2. The policy was set to end mid-May, but an employee memo posted to Reddit suggests it's been extended through the end of the month." - Rachel Sugar

Costco is a great place to buy in bulk...or not. They have nice clothing for the family at reasonable prices. With a variety of nice household items for all rooms, with decent prices, you are sure to find what you are looking for. In a warehouse setting, you can also get some exercise walking around while shopping. Then if you get hungry, they have the best pizza that you can relax in a seating area to enjoy!

I was treated rudely at the service counter. Not only was I ignored and other people went before me even though they showed up after I had been standing there, I could not get the customer rep to quit trying to sell me the higher membership. After her third attempt and ignoring my repeated "no thank you", I stopped her mid-sentence and asked her what part of that she did not understand. She got irritated at me. She could not stand still for 2 seconds and started trying to talk to me while I read the agreement and I had to ask her to quit talking so I could focus. The membership is so much higher than Sam's it's making me wonder my decision to go there plus they're much further away than the Sam's store in Owasso. I found nothing pleasant about this visit, some of the employees were really nice and some were not and overall most of the customers were incredibly rude. I don't need that. I canceled my membership, I don't need to buy in bulk for one person.

I have been a Costco member for well over twenty years and have always appreciated the orderly, respectful shopping environment Costco provides. Lately, however, Thursday mornings at the Owasso (North Tulsa) location have become a recurring source of frustration. One individual consistently arrives and purchases all clearance clothing immediately, leaving nothing for other members. On my most recent visit, the situation became heated enough that it nearly escalated into a physical confrontation between two female customers. Matters worsened when the individual stated that anyone interested could repurchase the items through her online resale marketplace. After decades of loyalty, this is the first time I have felt uneasy shopping in this store. I hope management will reconsider how these markdown events are handled moving forward.

Costco is that girl when it comes to bulk shopping and major savings. 🤌 Every trip is like a little adventure – one minute you’re grabbing your staple groceries, the next you’re walking out with a new set of pajamas, a rotisserie chicken, and a random seasonal decor piece you didn’t know you needed. The quality here is top-notch. I especially love their produce, meats, and ready-to-eat meals (their chicken noodle soup and rotisserie chicken are unmatched). The prices on basics like butter, eggs, and bulk snacks can’t be beat. The staff is always friendly and efficient, and I’ve noticed they keep the store incredibly clean and well-stocked, even on busy weekends. Parking is usually manageable, and checkout moves surprisingly fast considering the size of the carts! If you’re into saving money, stocking up, or just finding fun, unexpected treasures, Costco is a total win. Pro tip: never shop hungry – or you’ll end up with a cart full of free sample-fueled decisions. 😂

A lot of deceit in this company. Ordered my membership online. Still forced me to stand in the membership ID line to apply for my already paid for and verified account. They proceed to tell me that the option for a 1 yr paid membership w/out renewal was no longer acceptable (I choose this option online 5 mins prior to entering the store) and needed to provide a credit card for auto-renewal since I’m a new member. It was at that moment I told them to refund my money. So much lying in such a small amount of time.

Google
We have been a Costco member for years and have a company membership that spends over 10k per year. Our most recent experience was very disappointing and as a result, we will not renew. Our company purchased cases of Thanksgiving food for donating. Unlike other vendors we work with, they refused to provide a discount on the products so we could purchase more (fine enough but says something about company values), but what really bothered us was since we bought more than the limit per item for the sale to apply (4) they refused to honor the sale price. While everyone we dealt with was friendly, the whole experience (and subsequent follow-up in which they said we could come back to purchase more and only then would they apply the sale price to items if we bought more than the limit) has left a bad taste in our mouth and they have lost our business after more than a decade. Very unfortunate.

Google
One of the best and happiest places to shop. As for overall, i would be careful ordering online washer and dryers, especially stacking as they don't include that and no one to let you know either. The automatice places they offer discount thru are average.

Google
Their store hours are ridiculous. The lady at self checkout on Sundays is rude and aggressive. We got a membership a few months ago to try it because we’ve heard so many great things. After realizing how limited they are with their open hours and rude staff, I won’t be renewing next year. Back to Sam’s I go.

Yelp
We hadn't been members to any bigbox club in quite a long time but when Costco opened near Owasso, we decided to join. You do have to watch prices and I always look for the green tags (specials) when I go in. Our favorite things are the Tassos garlic & jalapeno stuffed olives, the jalapeno pimento cheese, the Kirkland brand sparkling water and the wine! :) Clerks and staff are always friendly and helpful. It can get totally overcrowded at times but the wait in line to check out is never too long.

Yelp
We love Costco. Great place for cheaper fuel. They have a very nice selections of meats, home goods, and snacks. This is our go-to place for milk, butter, snacks, and comfy lounge clothes.

Yelp
This is the 2nd largest Costco in the world and it's always well stocked and so clean! They do a great job.

Yelp
First off, James has always been a fan of Costco. Decades ago I went to my first one outside Ottawa Canada with my mom and aunt and I was totally impressed with the selection of items for sale, especially the local brands. Ever since I've been a fan and I was one of the first to sign up for a membership when they opened in Tulsa. I've always preferred Costco to Sam's for a variety of reasons, the Kirkland brand has always been better than Sam's Choice and quite frankly Costco takes better care of its facilities. For instance, I've never had a crappy cart at a Costco whether it's in Oklahoma or California or Washington. This location in North Tulsa is perfect for me as I don't have to travel across town through the horrible traffic south of 91st and Memorial. If I have a gripe it is with how Costco figures what to stock. They basically stock what the local populace consumes. For example at this location when it first opened there was a decent selection of seafood. I was able to buy some nice tuna steaks and other fish I prefer at a very reasonable price. Now you are basically limited to salmon, shrimp and some variety of white fish. When asked why there is no more tuna, it is because nobody in the area buys it. Same with a number of other items. Nobody wants to buy the aluminum water bottles from Rain or other suppliers in order to reduce microplastics in your diet and environment, so your only option for portable water is in plastic bottles. When I travel around the country I always hit up local Costco's because they will always have something different than they do in Tulsa. Pricing is also an issue on some items. For example I can buy almond butter much cheaper in California and Arizona than I can here. I can get two large containers there for the price of a single large container here. In the end basically you are penalized for the crap taste of the locals. Gas is usually about $.20 cheaper a gallon at Costco than the QT cartel making it a great value. Overall I'm a big fan of Costco, but Costco in Tulsa could use a bit more work.

Yelp
After seeing a "special" for a discounted Membership to Costco, I decided to go ahead and purchase. There was some problem with online sign up, so I sent to the store and was told that they would not honor the special online membership purchase price b/c it was from a 3rd party. But went ahead & purchased one from the store. I was rather disappointed after looking at merchandise on pretty much all the aisles. Costco was really not much cheaper than Walmart or other local store's prices. It seems that Costco has a larger variety of big ticket items than Sam's Club, like furniture, mattresses, appliances. But if looking for everyday items that most of us use all the time, like milk, eggs, butter, meats, frozen foods, I think Sam's Club does a better job at stocking those types of staples. Sam's Club also has better pricing for meats. But Costco does offer a Money-Back Guarantee on Membership, so if you cancel before 1 year, you can get your money back if you're not happy. Also Costco has special sales prices, but as they usually are only for 2-4 days, it makes shopping more frustrating. Just give discounted prices all the time. That's why people purchase Memberships!

Yelp
Costco has the best policies. I purchased a leaf blower a few weeks ago for $249. A couple weeks later an instant rebate for $50 appeared on the same leaf blower. I brought the leaf blower in thinking I would have to return it, and then re-buy the new one at the lower price, but they simply issued a credit to my account for the instant rebate. That's awesome customer service. Thank you Costco.

Yelp
Awesome Costco. Always clean and super friendly staff. Way better than the south location for sure! Keep it up guys!

Yelp
It's a Costco, so you know what you're getting. It's new, so everything is fresh and sparkly. It's also the 2nd biggest Costco in the nation, so yeah.... they have a LOT of stuff. Except for chicken, I can pretty much move most of my business from Sam's to Costco. I just don't like chicken in those vac sealed plastic bags. People have been really friendly the two times I've been there, and miracle of miracles, we went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded. And the close proximity to 169 beats the hell out of the trip to Bixby.

Yelp
The new location in North Tulsa is amazing. So clean and friendly staff. I highly recommend this location for all your shopping needs.

Yelp
I went to the Costco in Owasso. I thought I might get something to eat before shopping. I seen a opening where the customers take carts through. A employee started yelling at me that I couldn't walk through here to the snack bar. I thought this is very rude to be yelling at customers. If this is a rule you may need to put up signs where you want people to walk. The employee was very unprofessional.

Yelp
Costco is great but watch out for the fountain drinks. The lemonade and Star E and sprite all dispensed some black stuff. Maybe dirty filters ? Not sure I told one of the workers. They pretended to mess with the machine but didn't do anything. Didn't even see them fill up a cup to see if it was still happening. Snapped some pics so y'all know what to look out for

Yelp
This place has no scan and go app. They have mostly the same things as Sam's, but the constant vigilance over cards and ID's is very annoying. Having to go though checkout and be marketed to every trip is beyond inconvenient. The GM, Bill is also a sanctimonious arrogant human being lacking any semblance of retail sales skills. We cancelled our membership today because of him. The combination of annoyance and Bill getting in the way of his staff by acting as a task master to the poor staff to ensure the annoying policies are carried out in the most disruptive way possible is way too much to put up with when Sam's is right down the road.

Yelp
2nd largest Costco warehouse in the country. Clean, bright inside. Plenty of parking. Gas station, food court, hearing aid center, and optical services onsite. Very competitive prices.

Yelp
Big, organized, clean & employees are helpful.. plus a lot of free samples open later than I thought

Yelp
Tire center is great. All the guys there are very knowledgeable and get you taken care of right away. Will definitely be going back to get my boyfriends tires!
