Absolutely worth a visit! Breakfast is delicious with quality ingredients. The ambiance is relaxed and colorful, full of art and plenty of seating. Order a few different menu items to appease your palate!

Google
This place is such a vibe and I loved it! Not only was the atmosphere great with cool deco to look at but the food was absolutely amazing and the people who work there are so pleasant! I got the garden breakfast sandwich and it was perfection. It’s like they added some love to it or something because I’ve never had a breakfast sandwich that yummy! Such a great experience!

Google
Quaint café with standard coffee/espresso & cappuccino options, and one of the few open until 9pm in the area. There are brunch like menu options, a small assortment of muffins, cookies. I only had coffee & it was one of the best choices I've had. Made with love! Sparse staffing, quiet environment, great for studying/reading. Come with your electronics fully charged, though as I only saw one outlet in the place (aside from in the bathrooms.) Clean bathrooms with no trash can inside.

Google
Fantastic food, great waitstaff and a comfortable place to visit and enjoy a meal. Our party raved about the peace skillet, the sausage egg biscuit and grilled cheese and tomato soup - everything was delicious and well prepared. We'll be back!

Google
The iced latte was decent, fair price ($6.50), very nutty. I ordered it with honey and was told there was honey at the bar—one of my pet peeves as most know that honey will not blend in iced drinks. I had to ask for it to be put directly into the shot. As a barista, this is not a good practice especially for people who don’t know any better about iced beverages.

Google
I can't say enough good things about Costello's Travel Caffe since the new owners took over! This place has truly become a hidden gem in the neighborhood. If you're looking for a cozy spot with delicious, handmade bakery items and an excellent selection of breakfast, lunch, and coffee shop treats, look no further. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable. The commitment to making everything from scratch is evident in every bite. The aroma of freshly baked goods hits you as soon as you walk in, and it's hard to resist indulging in one (or more) of their delectable creations. From flaky pastries to mouthwatering sandwiches, Costello's offers a little something for every craving. I must mention the baristas – they are top-notch! Their passion for coffee is apparent in every expertly crafted cup. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or just looking for a quick caffeine fix, you'll be impressed by the quality and consistency. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it an ideal place for a relaxing breakfast, a quick catch-up with friends over lunch, or some quiet time with your favorite book. The friendly and attentive staff only adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Costello's Travel Caffe is a place where you'll find excellent food, great coffee, and warm hospitality. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone in search of a delightful dining experience. Kudos to the new owners for turning this into a true neighborhood treasure. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Google
Personable, a perfect way to start the day! The coffee shop is an intimate shop you can come and have vegan pastries and delicious coffee. Definitely glad I stopped in!

Google
New owners have made a good cafe great! Staff is friendly, personable and value your business. Owners make an effort to connect with their customers, welcome feedback, and have a really good sense of what this legacy Portland cafe is about. Community has always been Costello’s core value and that is even stronger today than it was two decades ago.

Yelp
Cozy little spot to grab a bite and cup of coffee with super friendly people and little tables outside to enjoy a bright day! I tried the breakfast special of the day that was lots of fluffy scrambled eggs, melty cheddar, bacon, and garlic aioli on an amazingly flaky and buttery biscuit. Daughter had the breakfast sandwich on a ciabatta with sausage. Both were super delicious. The coffee was wonderful and not overly acidic as some local roasters can be. What a pleasant Monday morning breakfast. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Long time customer. They're favorable in many areas including service. Love the vegan bar (and I'm not vegan.) The breakfast tacos were subpar, maybe add a sauce. Great vibe, a Portland classic.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood café with a European vibe. Daily quiche options. Friendly, welcoming staff (makes ya think there's consciousness management...) Plus there's a weekly gathering of the Portland Radical Faeries.

Yelp
Hadn't been to Costello's in a number of years. Used to be one of my old spots for tea and get some work done on the laptop. I thought I'd stop by to have a small bite and tea. I ordered the avocado toast (without the eggs). For ~$12, it was underwhelming to say the least. It was two slices of thin sourdough bread with a thin layer of avocado paste. Photo attached to show you what I mean. Honestly, I should have given them some feedback. The ambience is still nice, but doubt this will be back on my recommendation list anytime soon.

Yelp
Coming in to Costello's there was a great smell inviting you in. It was immediately a nice peaceful break from all the hustle and bustle outside. The team working was fun to engage with and brought a smile to our faces as we ordered our drinks. I had a cold brew and it was delicious! It was the perfect drink for a rare sunny Portland day! Great location, great coffee, great service!

Yelp
Great service! Super kind, and good food! I love the vibes. I come here lots to chill and hang out.

Yelp
Simplistic peaceful cafe. I came here while visiting Portland and I'm happy I stumbled upon this cafe. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I ordered the lavender mint tea which came in a large mug. I'm not a coffee fan so I can't speak on that. I also ordered the breakfast special which was avocado toast, the sourdough bread was soft and fresh. They topped it with feta cheese and fried eggs. Such a low key spot that is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Sitting down at Costellos for a veggie scramble and some really tasty Umbria coffee--smooth and robust. The place itself is some sort of converted industrial space. Old patinated concrete floors, hi beamed rafter ceilings with exposed hvac vents. But then the walls are wainscotted with textured upper reaches in a rusted ochre. Mismatched vintage wood tables. It's a cool vibe. Now to the food. The pots was really crisply assembled. Clearly some pride of workmanship. Scramble was tasty, although some of the potatoes in it veered from al dente into raw potato territory with that green undercooked flavor. The salsa was laced with generous hits of cumin and had a good medium heat bite. The gluten free toast was pretty nice texture, the garnish of Haas avocado slices was perfectly ripe. If this was my neighborhood, I'd definitely pop in a couple times a month. 3.5 stars.

Yelp
Costello's Cafe is an absolute gem! If you're on the hunt for a fantastic cafe with homemade bakery goods, you've hit the jackpot. First, the coffee. I'm a self-proclaimed coffee snob, and Costello's has won me over. Their baristas know their craft, and it shows in every sip. Now, let's talk about their bakery goods. The blueberry muffin is an absolute delight. It's moist, bursting with blueberries, and has just the right touch of sweetness. It's practically impossible to resist. And, if you're in the mood for something savory, don't miss their fantastic quiche. It's flaky, flavorful, and simply delicious. Breakfast tacos are another must-try; they're packed with flavor and are a perfect way to start your day. What sets Costello's Cafe apart is the evident love and care that goes into their baked goods. You can taste the homemade goodness in every bite. Plus, the ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax, work, or catch up with friends. As of September 23, 2023, new owners have taken the helm, and they've infused the cafe with even more charm and character. You can feel the passion they have for this place in every detail. Costello's Cafe has quickly become my go-to place for coffee and treats. If you appreciate quality and a warm atmosphere, you've got to give them a visit. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I've been a long time (waay preCOVID) fan of this establishment but after ownership change(s?) I'm a little more then worried. Inconsistency is not a good look in any business setting. I'll return but not nearly as confidently as I once did. Only time will tell.

Rusty S.

Yelp
Neighborhood treasure serving breakfast and lunch all day with yummy housemade pastries and quiches. The new owners are doing an excellent job of breathing new life in this quaint cafe.

Yelp
Groovy tatted servicer with a tres bon accent. Breakfast Sammy was pretty tasty, chalk full of bacon, cheddar, juicy tomato (added), scram egg on a grande croissant. All good but $13 price tag was a crusher for this public servant (plus a tip of course) required a quick Refi and rates are ridiculous. Will work overtime and return with a rich friend. Merci!

Yelp
I'll keep this simple: I love coming here to: --meet a friend for lunch --join colleagues for a cup or two of coffee and to plan our next big project --to sit alone and relax --to write The spacious, wood tables and sturdy chairs are perfect for all those things, plus there are lovely framed photos (this visit featured the artful vision of Portland photographer and visual artist Tom Baretto). The coffee and food are delicious, and the service is always exceptional.

Ellen D.

Yelp
Excellent coffee, nice atmosphere and furnishings, friendly staff. Great for conversations, reading, or just watching the rain out the window.

Connie O.

Yelp
This is such a great place to relax and have something delicious. I had the turmeric and ginger tea with my wonderful almond, raspberry and poppy seed muffin. The muffin was big, homemade, with a golden crust on top. It's interesting and relaxing sitting inside, and everyone working here is really nice. Best wishes to the new owners!

Yelp
Let me start by saying that I am a lesbian. My partner and I went there on Saturday and there was some event where a ton of gay men showed up and were mingling. This is of course fine. However they weren't seated. I tried to have breakfast with my partner and because there was so many people I simply turned around and was faced with someone eles butt in my face. The worst part is that the men were kissing each other like. Big orgy and smelling each others armpits. Like we are at a restaurant behave. Dont subject people who are trying to have breakfast to your weirdness and lack of personal space. Apparently when I asked the staff if there was an event the lady stated that they gather every saturday. So if the staff knows they really should put a sign on their door that states it will get full and rowdy. Not suitable for people who want a lowkey breakfast

Yelp
Hadn't been to Costello's since Covid, but we loved it, just as in years past. The same enjoyable "neighborhood not a chain" ambiance and good food, although temporarily no quiche. The big difference was how few people were there at lunchtime. Great service...fast! We had a tuna melt and a veggie sandwich, both with side salad. And the chocolate chip cookie was perfecto! Food was reasonably priced, which is nice in these days of menu shock at most places. We will be back more often, and plan to bring my breakfast group soon.

Yelp
The owner is no longer Costello family but I liked the name. I ordered the spinach quiche with Caesar salad and 20 oz Jasmine tea. The tea came 1st and the quiche 10 minutes later. The 2 televisions are playing different videos which I like that idea. I could choose where I sat. It was half full on Saturday, 11:15A. Most are with beverage. Thank you! The salad was delicious with cut pieces of lettuce and some small bundles. I like the cream dressing and no strong flavor. The quiche was more delicious than the last owner. Fluffy eggs and mmmm crust was flaky but firm. The taste was delicious and mild and I could smell the Jasmine tea. Perfect for me! No GF bakery goods though. Nice smells coming from the kitchen. Clean as usual. The people social as usual. I enjoyed myself while I waited for laundry at the Eco place on 23rd.

Yelp
New management and everything is excellent. We have tried a lot of our favorite Costello's favorites and can say with enthusiasm Costello's is back.

Yelp
I went here between my appointments the coffee was decent but I had the avocado toast and it was smeared brownish avocado it was very gross.

Yelp
I love popping in to Costello's for breakfast or lunch. Their specials always sound great and their regular menu items are some of my go to lunches. An extremely friendly staff and fun laid back environment make this family owned restaurant one of my favorite quick bite places in Portland.

Yelp
I had been coming here for years, but hadn't been in since Covid hit. I finally made my way back and was rewarded with the most delicious farmer's scramble I have ever had! Also the blueberry buckle was so good! Super friendly owner and staff. Lovely atmosphere. Farmer's Breakfast Scramble

Yelp
Twice in the span of about a week half we've been here for brunch and both times have been amazing. One Saturday morning we were looking for a satisfying breakfast and found Costello's not too far away. We jumped in the car and headed over. We will be back many more times. I'm going to add more below, but the tl;dr is, highly recommended! Trying a new format with this review so here we go. Things we loved: - food was great, especially the coffee cake and bacon croissant - fun ambiance, definitely the kind of coffee shop you want to stay, maybe read a novel and order a few meals (I particularly liked the TVs on the walls showing walking tour videos of various exotic locales). - great staff, very helpful and attentive - fast service - varied menu, makes me want to go more and more Things we didn't love: - varied menu with lots of stuff I want to eat, its so hard to decide! - nothing else. Enjoy your time at Costello's Travel Cafe, and maybe see you there!

Yelp
Costello's has been a favorite of my wife & I for over 15 years. It has been through 3 different owners in that time & the current family is just lovely. The coffee & their baristas are always perfect; they set a high standard for the coffee they serve & the skills of the barista to deliver excellent espresso drinks. The food (breakfast & lunch items) is always wonderful, tasty & well presented. The baked goods are lovely too! As a gig worker, this is where I hold office hours with local clients - the environment is pleasant, not too noisy, & perfect for conversations. Great Wifi too.

Yelp
This cafe has very interesting decor. They have wall clocks set to the respective places time zone, paintings on the wall, tv screens which show places to visit etc.. It was pretty occupied even on a weekday. We tried the cheese omelette and vegetarian croissant sandwich along with cappuccino. Everything was fantastic in taste. The service was also good. I would definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Yelp
I adore Costello's. The folks who run the caffe are so kind and welcoming. The caffe is laid back, with its own little personality. Everything we've had there - food and drink - has been good. It's a low key spot to enjoy a coffee with a good book or a mellow bite with a friend.
google avatar

Yelp
Now that I've tried the crepes, quiche, and sandwiches, I want to update my review. All are excellent. I recommend the vegetable quiche and peach cobbler coffee cake the most. Great coffee and excellet service in an inspiring locally owned restaurant.

Yelp
My favourite neighborhood spot. The owner, Jessie, is the best. She makes the coffee cake from scratch. Fantastic food. Impeccable coffee. Stellar vibes. Would recommend it to anyone. Don't miss out!

Yelp
I always love this place. The owners are wonderful and the food is delicious and made to order. It's a comfortable inviting place. My only wish is that the iced tea was a bit more flavorful but that could be me. Won't keep me from going often!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome. The atmosphere is really nice, and the coffee is so great!!! I don't know why it's so yummy, but I love it!! I had been here years ago to do a meet up with bilingual speakers. Which was an interesting experience! This place is also really nice to study at, because the music isn't super loud of weird sounding. I also really like how at the larger tables there is a sign saying you can sit here, but if it's only one person that it would be cool if you were also open to sharing the table with someone else who may need a seat. Today I was studying with a friend of mine, and a sweet lady came by and asked if she could sit with us. And of course we said yes! She was super sweet and I helped her with her iPad. Overall have a good feeling when I'm in here and will continue to have coffee and a muffin here!
google avatar

Kaylee J.

Yelp
Food and coffee is absolutely delicious. The prices are reasonable. Wait times are very short regardless of how busy the cafe is. My boyfriend, Hunter, and I are visiting Portland for a conference and we immediately picked this as our favorite breakfast place. I ordered the caramel caffe latte and it's one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had. For breakfast I got the traditional Belgium waffle and my boyfriend so far has gotten the omelette and the farmer's breakfast scramble and we both have yet to be served something here we don't like. I highly recommend this place. Nice staff, relaxing atmosphere, overall it's just a really lovely way to start the day.

Yelp
Ate breakfast with my mom this morning at location. Service was exceptional, food was delicious! Beautiful decor. Pictures on the wall were very nice! I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice quiet location to have brunch.
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Great service and great coffee every time. The ambiance is perfectly suited for doing some work with a cup of coffee or having a light brunch with some friends. The owner is so personable and bakes everything from scratch. Best scones hands down - ESPECIALLY the Marionberry scone. I come as often as my schedule allows!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Costello's is a great neighborhood cafe with good coffee, lots of food options, and addictive baked goods. My family cannot resist their pies and scones. This place also gets pretty busy during weekend brunch times but it's a pretty good place to work during the day, if you're okay with music in the background. The wifi was decent too. I like their lattes, but the offerings are not unique - no crazy special drinks here (though they did have a special homemade black walnut syrup today, which reminded me of molasses). Costello's knows how to be a stellar standard neighborhood coffee shop and I'm happy to go in whenever I'm in the area.
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Love this place! Small community feel with great coffee and great eats. Kids working the counter are awesome too!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
A friend joined my family for thanksgiving dinner (2019) and brought 2 pies from Costello's. The crust was rancid, so we thought we'd eat the filling... the pecan pie was hard as a rock, and the pumpkin pie had so much clove it burned my mouth. Embarrassing for my friend, and no dessert for the group :( Really unfortunate!

Elise C.

Yelp
Fun, inspiring place to meet friends. We go often for good food and great service. I love that Costello's is locally owned and the owner does the baking! Ask about holiday pies and cookies.
google avatar

Yelp
I used to come here all the time throughout high school. We were big fans in my family. They made a good latte, loved their breakfast sandwiches, salads, cookies and scones...well, me and the hubby happened to be in the neighborhood and thought we'd stop by! The food is just as good as I remember. Nothing too crazy, just some good coffee shop food. The cookies aren't as enormous as they are everywhere else, and the entree portions are substantial but nothing crazy. The turkey deluxe was exactly what I needed in that moment. The coffee comes from Coava, and I'm now a Stumptown gal, but it's all good. The only thing missing is the staff. It almost seems like they're under new management? Or perhaps have just hired a bunch of outsiders? Everyone working seemed to be very indifferent, just working a job they got to pay the bills for the summer. That's all well and fine. I don't expect exemplary service from a coffee shop. Having said that, 10 years ago the staff were very much 'this is our home, welcome.' I did miss that part.

Yelp
Found this place on yelp this morning and decided to come check it out. Cute little cafe. They have the most amazing tuna melt sandwich, called the Miami melt, which is served on a toasted ciabatta bread. They are pretty generous with their portions, but everything is served a la cart. Their turkey croissant was also good. We ordered red potatoes on the side which were pretty plain. Even added salt and pepper to it ourselves, and it still was really bland. Will most likely be back for their Miami melt!

Andrew J.

Yelp
I was excited to come back here after several years. We walk in and most of the tables are dirty and the floor had not been swept. We both got mediocre sandwiches and they didn't even bother to put a slice of pickle or a few chips on the side. Seems like folks are just going through the motions. Bummer.
google avatar

Charles D.

Yelp
Costello's is a warm, inviting cafe built around the theme of international travel. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Don't miss it if you are in the neighborhood.

Jess L.

Yelp
I was served rotten milk in my latte and the pie I ordered tasted rancid. I got very sick, please do not eat here.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
This is a great place to eat breakfast or lunch-- delicious quiche, fresh sandwiches and salads, gluten free cookies that could fool any dessert lover, beautiful photos and a relaxed family atmosphere.
google avatar

James Q.

Yelp
Sonny (the owner) was rude to me... Snappy and bothersome, seemed the same way to his employees. Sub-par food and generally unimpressed.

Flory W.

Yelp
We've been there before. I was checking Yelp, to see what it was we ordered, but I didn't do a review, so here I am. It is a pleasant place to eat while watching travel videos, that we've been to: Oregon Coast, England & France. Despite the time and day, it was not overly crowded when we arrived, it was a Sunday noon. DH had the "Edinburgh" ham and Swiss sandwich and a bowl of mushroom soup. Both, he said, were delicious. DH erroneously ordered a Tuna Salad sandwich for me - I wanted a Tuna Salad, not the sandwich. I told him twice: 'mine is a salad, why would you ask me what kind of bread do I want?' While ordering, he ran back to me, asking me what kind of bread do I want, but I'm still confused, WHY. I should have walked over there and order it with him, but I didn't want to lose our seats and I needed to go to the restroom. The sandwich was good and I had the leftovers for lunch the next day. When, we're done, I asked for a foil to wrap my half sandwich, and asked them why my Tuna Salad came out with a bread and it was hot. This is what I got: "Miami Melt - Albacore tuna salad w/ celery, red onion, mayo, roma tomato and cheddar. Served HOT on ciabatta". THIS IS WHAT I WANTED: "Tuna Salad - Albacore tuna salad (celery, red onion & mayo)with arugula, tomato & cucumber with lemon vinaigrette." Oh well. Service was friendly and prompt.

Libby A.

Yelp
I feel so lucky to live so close to such a special spot! Everything I've tried from their menu has been fabulous. Staff is wonderful and friendly, and the travel-inspired decor and happy music always make me excited to come back. Thanks pals!

Kirk Alan J.

Yelp
Prior to the pandemic, Costello's was fabulous and I looked forward to dining there. I decided to introduce my partner to it for a birthday surprise and was horrified to find how far it has fallen in the last two years. The food was terrible from burnt omelet and scrambled eggs to incorrect ingredients in both dishes. The Farmer Scramble, for example, listed 7 or 8 different items, but came with nothing but red pepper and avocado and NO CHEESE!! Ev4en the once-fantastic croissants were now just bland globs of flaky dough missing the wonderful, buttery flavor. Topping off the dismal experience was the dreadful piano lounge muzak, completely ruining the birthday celebration. I have supported Costello's for years, but after today's experience, I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Amazing service. Servers and baristas are always making personal connections. They serve the best coffee too... Umbria! And of course the food is delicious.

Yelp
First time visit for Sunday Brunch. Very quaint. Friendly staff. Creative menu, home made baked goods and fresh coffee. I will return

Yelp
Once again....the best yogurt I have ever had. Creamy and delicious. I can't put a finger on how they make it but it is just fantastic! This time I had it with fresh fruit and still amazing. I had a great breakfast sandwich. Great place with counter service. They will bring your food to you. Great coffee and coffee drinks.
