"As serious Côte devotees, we cannot get enough of their relaxing manicures and pedicures, all of which happen inside a space that evokes a clean, nontoxic, lazy dream beach house vibe. Like Côte’s adored Brentwood salon in LA, the new NYC location offers meticulous service for one of the best mani-pedis around, free from major toxic ingredients and allergens commonly included in mainstream polishes (the same goes for their eponymous line of polishes). Go once and you'll be hooked."

Decided to check this place out on a whim as I was waiting in line for Ketl because some of their stuff looked pretty nice from the window. Didn’t stay long because the only person in there to help me was rude and snippy. Don’t understand this approach with customers for these type of places, especially in the Bowery. Who’s actually going in here regularly to buy this stuff?

This was the worst shopping experience I have ever had. The Asian man working here yelled at a woman who walked in with her headphones on. Later I asked him what the scent was in the store and he never actually answered any part of the question and his tone was so rude that I had no interest in looking at anything else in the store. It was absolutely a horrible shopping experience.

We love this store! Super cozy store and high quality stuff made of natural materials. Always a go to for us for homegoods!

Google
Cutest store for your home necessities or gifts. You’ll find very authentic Japanese goodies and very very reasonably priced. The owner is a sweetheart.

Beautiful shop full of honewares and furniture made of mostly natural materials with a soft colour palette and earthy vibe.

Visited Cote a Coast NYC and had the pleasure of meeting a staff member who must be an expert in social experiments. The Asian male staff member provided a masterclass in rudeness and discrimination, especially towards Asian ladies. It's almost as if he's testing the limits of how far one can go before a complaint is filed. Truly an unforgettable experience if you're looking to witness blatant racism firsthand. Bravo!

Google
It’s a pretty store and has a nice selection, but the no photos policy doesn’t make sense to me. I was about to take some photos of a few products to see which one the person I’m gifting to would like, but was immediately stopped by the store owner, who spoke rather abruptly; he didn’t even take the time to at least be polite about it. He didn’t really open up or speak nicely until I actually made a purchase — he did end up being friendly but that was after I proved that I could afford something in there. Honestly sensed a bit of discrimination going on.

Yelp
It would be unfair to say that I simply love this store. What would be more on point is to say that I'd like to live here permanently. They have hand embroidered rugs in Cotten and cactus silk from Morocco that I want to drape myself in. They have white resin plates and bowls, linen bags, flannel button down shirts, and hand woven baskets. It's like my yuppie fantasies have all come true in one store. To top it off the owner is kind and easy to talk to. I'll be back to spend my hard earned cash.

Yelp
What a horrible shopping experience. Came in on a weekend and it was empty with one person manning the shop. we said hi and the owner (?) just looked at us. No hi, no hello. So unwelcoming. I picked up a piece of pottery and thought it looked nice for a friend so I took a picture and the dude yelled out no pictures with an attitude. No please or anything. Disgusting customer service that made us instantly leave. Must be the guys first retail experience

Yelp
disreputable and dishonest! ordered an item on line, as wedding gift, they immediately processed my credit card for the amount but item was never sent to recipient! they have no phone number, all contact is made through email, after 7 emails, filing complaint with credit card company who paid them for an item not shipped and filing with better business bureau. i received an email from côte a coast askin if i wanted a refund!! beware!

Yelp
I had a very negative experience and don't believe this store prioritizes their faithful and longstanding customers. I purchased a very expensive throw pillow from this store and, after owning it for only 6 months, became aware that the internal seams were loose and that the pillow was essentially ripping from within. When I brought it back to show the sales associate - they refused even to take a look at it or show it to the rest of the team. The sales associate told me that six months was too long and that he didn't trust me, insinuating I was lying. I have throw pillows from other stores that have lasted over 20 years - so I can assure you this is %100 an error of craftsmanship. He did not offer any solutions, a discount, a repairperson, or even give me a manager's email to chat with. It makes me not want to support small businesses like this because there is no customer support when things like this happen. Please do not buy anything here. If it breaks or is defective, even within the year, they will leave you hanging and feeling like an idiot.

Yelp
Just spent the 2 hours with a pit in my stomach from my experience in this store earlier today. So relieved to have googled it and realized my experience has been shared by many. The man working (likely the owner from other review read here) barely paid attention to me when walking in, but then proceeded to follow me around the store as if I was doing something bad. Eventually, regular clients came in and he started chatting with them. I pulled out my phone to snap a picture of one of the water pitchers that I liked and would potentially pick up later that day if my partner had approved when he yelled in front of all the costumers: NO PICTURES. Without taking the time to explain or justify the rule, he continued taking to the other customers. I felt like I had done something awfully wrong. I don't know if he thinks that I work in retail or something - but I actually work in an art gallery, where we highly encourage picture taking (and being nice to any and everyone who comes in regardless of if they look like they're going to buy or not). Loved their selection - but I feel to humiliated and terrified to ever go back.

Yelp
The store is decorated very well but unfortunately Accompanied by the most horrific shopping experience. I'm not sure if it's the owner of the store but the man that works there is disgustingly rude and condescending. The sheer disrespect we faced was enough to immediately store without thinking twice on spending any money. He also yelled at people for taking a photo, which is confusing because doesn't he want people to market his products/ store? Would not recommend!!!

Yelp
The owner David Wu is the exact opposite of what's in the press on his website. "A beach-inspired sanctuary in the middle of the city that offers customers an escape..." Yelling at us for holding our phones? Overpriced products? Kicking a group of Columbians out because they know the baskets you have were made by Colombian women who obtained only a fraction of what you're charging? Trust me David, the only thing your customers want to do is escape your store.

Yelp
We went in and were told to wear a mask at there is a major serge of COVID coming. We were nice and obliged. After some back and forth discussion about wearing masks after being vaccinated 3x.. we were told we were not the profile of customer and to leave the store. The man who maybe the owner, told us his "customers spend a lot of money and that's who they cater to these customers all wear masks" His attitude was obnoxious, entitled and arrogant.. he sized us up as not fitting into his customer profile.. whatever that means as I just bought a new construction condo in the neighborhood. We just couldn't believe that someone would talk to anyone the way this man spoke to us.. they have some nice things but honestly, the attitude was a major turnoff and completely not necessary I will never step in there again!! Spare yourself.. do t waste the trip!

Yelp
Discriminatory behavior: The dude behind the counter is Asian. I'm ALSO Asian. I walked in not a single glance or a hello. Three separare white ladies walked in. "Hello, welcome!!" I asked a single question about the resin material: "yes" The white lady asked a question: a diatribe. What a shame.

Yelp
What a horrible experience we had in this store today!!! Really beautiful concept but customer service was definitely not on par. The sales associate accused a random customers of taking photos in such a demeaning condescending voice. How about putting a sign up before you lose all your customers Really wanted to purchase from here but ran right out after seeing that encounter. Never returning!!

Yelp
Owner stole the art work that was done on the boarded up windows after the riots in NY. They did not offer to pay for the art work. The art work was going to be auctioned off to help the homeless and this dirt bag kept it. I've shopped at this store. Nothing they have is worth buying after what they did. Never again.

Yelp
Terrible shopping experience here. When I was walking in to the store I asked "May I take photos here " The store owner said " No photos at all ". So I didn't take any pictures. Then I use my phone to text with my friends and google the way home. The workers ask me " Are u taking notes?" I said "what notes? taking notes of the way home ?" Then he said "You don't look like you're here for shopping, are you retailer? You can not take notes here." And his trying to look my phone screen. Makes me feel really uncomfortable.

Yelp
Everything copy from Japan cause of China No photo and atmosphere is so bad

Yelp
Witnessed a really off-putting interaction the shop owner had with another girl in the store: she took out her phone to take a picture, and the cashier condescendingly went, "No photos. You should really ask for permission next-time." Odd policy - what is this, a museum or a home goods store? They'd probably get a lot more business if they let social media marketing work its magic... the girl was so shocked by his rudeness she left the store. I quickly followed suit.

Yelp
I don't think they want business. They expect you to purchase final sale items without sending pictures to your significant other? Not sure what he thinks is going on with pictures, but this is how home design and decor works. If you have a partner then they expect to be apart of the decision making process for your home. The priority seems to be no pictures and being demeaning to people walking in the store rather than making a sale. Weird vibes. Won't be back.

Yelp
I walked in here on a really nice day thinking wow this is so cute! Why is nobody in this store? Why have I never heard of it? I was in a little bit of a rush but I wanted to take a picture to remember this gem and send to my mom so we could come back and shop together. I took out my phone and took a wide shot of the store and was swiftly reprimanded by the cashier. I apologized and then felt super uncomfortable being in there. Let me be clear- I totally understand this kind of policy in a book store or record shop where all the products could easily be bought on Amazon. But it looks like everything here is artisan.. in addition, it was so obvious I wasn't taking a picture of any specific product. I was just trying to share this nice store. If you have a no picture policy.. put a sign on the door or somewhere I'll see it instead of yelling at me like I'm an idiot. In 2019 most stores want to make their spaces more Instagrammable and picturesque to gain more foot traffic. No wonder this place was empty.

Yelp
Beautifully curated housewares! Ceramica, rugs, baskets. Needed a unique housewarming gift and had a ton to choose from. Totally lovely owner. Would love to own everything in the store.

Yelp
Beautiful store....... but do not attempt to touch your phone, or for that matter even take out a pen and paper to write down your friends phone number while in the shop. Could use a lot of help with social interaction.

Mojo S.

Yelp
Lovely store and amazing salesperson. We've been visiting this store for quite a while, regularly on weekends and love the vibe of the beautiful space.

Yelp
Rude workers. The color palette at this place is beautiful and draws you in, but everything is marked up way too high. I was interested in a loose chai mix, but it was $37 so I wanted to look up reviews. I pulled out my phone to do so, and the clerk said "no photos please" (which I totally understand to prevent online shopping) but then when I said "oh I wasn't" and went to google the product, he laughed and made a snarky remark about how "writing it down is the same thing." I prefer to shop local when I can, even though I am young and tech savvy. I did not appreciate his assumption or condescending tone and won't be going back.

Yelp
this is a wonderful store if you like simple and high quality stuff. I wanted to buy everything from them. Bowls, mugs, plates, blankets... too many. Their description says it is a men's clothing store - I'd say it is more like a home goods store. And don't be fooled by their website, they have way way more great stuff in the store than online. Definitely worth going!

Yelp
I am reviewing just to offset some of the negative comments I have seen - from my experience, the staff was super nice both times I've been here. Great store.

Robert F.

Yelp
Absolutely love this store, a complete lifestyle experience curated tastefully and with much respect for local artisans. The taste and knowledge level of the staff is unmatched.

Yelp
It's a beautifully curated store. I have been there many times just to look around, and the man who works there has always been nice, even when I have said, "I'm just looking!" Today I bought a beautiful lamp that was more than I initially thought I would spend on a lamp (I first saw it in December), but I could not find anything I loved as much anywhere else. He was super nice about showing it to me and getting a lightbulb so I could see it in action. I think some of the comments below about not being able to take out your phone exhibit a misunderstanding of the current Manhattan small business retail market. Rent is prohibitively expensive (notice all of the empty storefronts on the Bowery), so you have to appreciate that what you are paying for is not just the object, but the fact that they have found it for you. Their prices are fair, it is simply not a store for a bargain hunter or someone who can't trust their own judgment about whether or not they should buy something. I am grateful to have a store that introduces me to so many wonderful things.
