Sat on the patio and watched the people walk by while I enjoyed some amazingly delicious food. Everything we had was great - from the escargot to the ribeye. Been wanting to come here for years and it didn’t disappoint. Service was on point too.

Went in on a Monday afternoon for lunch, cause this place is tiny and busy. Good busy for a reason too. We love the rustic vibes it brings to the entire seating. The oysters were fresh and side note great for skin, so chuck them in. But we had the duck and steak and I’d come back just for the steak alone, but what was my absolute favorite? The tartare. Smacked my fork on the table with shock and surprise at how delicious it was. This was the best steak tartare a mom avis!!! Compared to black and blue, Jules bistro etc. Plus, the Mexican cola just slaps.

Showed up on a random Tuesday evening just before dinner and was able to secure a table. The restaurant is narrow and long, but I really loved the vibe. The servers were kind and knowledgeable and explained every dish very well. I enjoyed the classic Steak Frites and would totally recommend it. I would come again!

Walked in on a Thursday afternoon. No trouble finding a table as I was alone. Loved the food here. The staff is friendly. The food hit the spot. I ordered the Steak Frites, medium rare. Worlds fail to describe how amazing my dish was. Well seasoned and the sauce it comes with adds so much flavour to the meal. Paired it with a red wine (Dom de Montgilet 2023). Too good. Will definitely return if I travel to Toronto again.

One of the best "casual but boujee" restaurants in toronto. I didn't get to see inside as I chose to sit in the patio. They do not take reservations and I arrived at 3pm with no wait time! but once 4 approached there was a tiny waitlist. Started off with a Steak tartare and it was super flavourful with the toast. (It seemed like unlimited toast as the server was asking if we wanted more?) But highly recommend We waited a really long time for our main, when we were done with our appetizer the server asked if we wanted our main now. I was in a bit of shock, as we waited over 40mins for our main, we said yes, and the steak came after 15mins. Most restaurants will ask if you want the main and appetizers together or separate. Didn't really like how they didn't ask me-and Service was slow and felt kind of cold But their Steak frites was the best I've ever had. It was very well seasoned! 10oz and it was quite a big cut! Comes with like juice to dip, and butter for the french fries. (FYI they don't have ketchup) and I did ask for medium rare cook and found it to be a little over. BUT the hype is worth it! Just would be better with better service. No street parking after 4pm so I would either come either for lunch, or figure out the situation before you come here like taking transit. I would come back to see their inside.

Google
Highly recommend this place! The beef carpaccio is delicious, and the steak cooked medium-rare is just right—tender and juicy. The dipping sauce is a bit mild, but still nice. The potato with morel mushrooms has a tangy and savory flavor that works really well.

Finally got to try this place after saving it for soo long because they don’t take reservations. Luckily we walked in on a weekday night and were able to get a table fairly quickly. The food here was truly amazing, super worth the hype. Our favourites were the beef tartar and steak and frites obviously. But honestly I would order everything again if I came back. The steak was cooked perfectly and I would 100% come back just for that. The service was nice and welcoming, the staffs were super chill, they were talking amongst themselves and having a great time. Pretty tentative and always checked up on the guests. The atmosphere felt homey and a great place to catch up with friends. Music was not too loud, a good and intimate atmosphere to have a conversation with someone.

Google
Got the Steak & frites with a French 75 to drink. This place is pretty popular, and both me and my friends were planning to come here for a long time. Our experiences fell somewhat short compared to our expectations. The sauce and seasoning on the steak was great, but the cut of steak for $50 (new york strip) was pretty mediocre, tough, and fatty. Can get a better steak elsewhere for cheaper. The drink was okay but nothing special it tastes like lemonade. Service was pretty good and friendly, even though it was an extremely busy day with the festival going on, service was still available and it wasn’t impossible to get my server’s attention. I give 3/5 because the food needs to be higher quality or more unique given the price & hype. Don’t think it’s a bad place nor is it fantastic, and I’d place this in the category of the many french bistros in Toronto which are quite cookie cutter and overpriced. There are better options for french bistros in the city (Le Baratin) which are far more worth the price, and do not require you to wait a long time to sit due to a seemingly unnecessary walk-in only policy.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in Toronto! Côte de Boeuf absolutely blew me away with their dishes. I ordered the beef tartare, escargot, and prime ribeye--and everything was exceptional. The beef tartare was hands down the best I've ever had--perfectly seasoned, with a silky egg yolk on top and just the right amount of capers and herbs. It paired beautifully with the crispy crostini. The escargot was rich, garlicky, and bubbling hot--exactly how you want it. I loved soaking up all that buttery goodness with the bread on the side. And the prime ribeyeCooked to perfection. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, served over a bed of roasted root vegetables that added a great earthy balance. Highly recommend this spot for a cozy, French-inspired meal. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Nice French restaurant, great service, beautiful food. Will definitely recommend. We had the beef tartar and bread and butter, it was delicious.

Yelp
Cute little spot in Ossington with the best beef tartare I've ever had! The crostini it was paired with was also the perfect crunch and the escargot was also so delicious. The beef burger was solid, cooked medium rare which made it nice and juicy. Staff were also super friendly here! Definitely will come back and sit outside on the few tables they have out in the front

Yelp
The best French bistro in Toronto - you can tell they really specialize in beef preparation just by the flavor and the integrity of the dishes. Everything is seasoned very traditionally but packed with flavor The servers are also super welcoming and kind - you often see them chatting with eachother and customers, so you know they are well taken care of

Yelp
Good place for higher end dining and high quality food! My mom and I shared their scallops crudo and steak frites. It seems that their menu changes depending on the season. We were told they don't have foie gras during the summer if it's too hot because the ducks won't be in good condition with heat. As for the dishes we ordered, I thoroughly enjoyed them! The scallop crudo was nice and lemon-y. A very refreshing and delicious dish for a summer day. The bread that it comes with was a nice touch to dip in the olive oil. I don't remember the exact price but I think the dish was around $20-30 and the portion was super small. The steak frites we had was really flavorful, peppery, and cooked nicely. Could be more tender and warmer I would say, but that butter mayonnaise sauce on the side was to die for 10/10!! Fries were basic. We had really welcoming service that was helpful as well. As it got busier the service because less attentive. The place seems really small and the tall seats were difficult for my mom to sit on as a handicapped, so keep that in mind.

Yelp
Lovely small restaurant on Ossington, the decor is very warm and cozy. The place is fairly small, so head over early for dinner if you dont want to end up in line for your meal! The staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and drinks. We ordered: escargot, beef tartare, duck confit and the rib eye with marrow butter. The star of the show was the beef tartare. It was so well seasoned and flavourful, absolutely loved it. The escargot was done really well too, didnt get any of the earthy and grittiness that some places can't get rid of. It was nice and tender and the garlic butter it was sitting in was delicious. The confit was fantastic, skin was super crispy but meat was extremely tender. The steak was great as well, but the butter it came with stole the show a bit. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
I came here around 1pm on Saturday. The place was full - it is a small place. There are not many tables, and the space was tight. Yet, has special character. It is a butcher based restaurant, so a tiny butchery space is attached to this restaurant's storefront, which raise my expectations high as I entered into the restaurant! We got: - Beef tartar - (Forgot the name) Anchovy fillet with cherry tomatoes with Sourdough bread slice with smoked eel butter The beef tartar was chunky, with good marinade with caper, onions, parsley etc. It came with 4 very thin slices of flavorful bread. We ordered additional bread (3 pieces) as 4 was not enough for the amount of tartar. Anchovy with cherry tomatoes was a bit disappointing. The anchovy fillets were good quality for sure, but the dressing over the cherry tomatoes were a bit bland. The eel butter tasted great! The whole dish came with only one slice of bread. What do we do with this amount of anchovy fillets, tomatoes and butter with only one slice of bread? I think they expect patrons to order more bread slices. Or, I may be craving more bread as I did not have wine??? lol I saw a lot of people in and out at the door, to take out selected cheese and cured meat items. Staff dealt with these customers diligently. The experience left me with mixed feelings. Today's experience was not entirely positive. Yet somehow I feel that I should come back again. Because it was lunch time and we drove here, we did not try wines. The food/ingredients were great and presented with quiet confidence. I could not try cheese and stakes this time. It must be much nicer if we had come in the evening not driving, to enjoy other styles of beef dishes and cheese with their selected wine. Or, get their cured meat items and cheese for take out and enjoy them at home with wine! Mmmm....Interesting one!

Yelp
The best "casual" steakhouse in Toronto, bar none. After years of frequenting their sister restaurant down the street, Union, I finally made it out to Cote De Beouf. With just a few tables and a walk in only policy, it can be tough to get a table (this was my 4th try!) but it was well worth the hype. The waiter was right - Cote serves Toronto's best Steak Tartare. The Steak Frites, and especially the Braised Ribs special were incredible as well. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Favorite mid-price level steak in Toronto! All the mains are good -- but come here specifically for the entrees! The steak tartare is to die for, and I'm always conflicted between ordering that and the terrine. Definitely ask for more bread, though. The service can be a bit slow, but understandable as it is pretty busy (1.5h wait last Friday). However, the servers are all extremely nice and attentive -- there was a mistake with the bill once where my dessert was not included, but when I brought it up, they insisted that I don't pay for it after the fact. Tldr; if you're in Ossington for a tapas bar vibe some great steak, pop in!
google avatar

Yelp
I really wish this place took at least a handful of reservations, since it's really tough to get in as a walk-in. We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night, eta on the waitlist was 2hrs but it ended up being 3hrs which was just too much. The food was great but I don't think it's worth that much of a wait. We ordered the PEI oysters, steak tartare, and steak frites. Oysters were good, tartare was excellent with the perfectly crunchy and buttery baguette - probably my favourite bite of the night. Lastly the steak frites was delicious especially with the peppercorn sauce but it was a bit underwhelming relative to the hype of being the best steak in toronto. Also the fries must have been fried in some sort of fat because each bite felt so rich that it made us feel way more full than we should have been. The whole meal was quite rich and filling, the service was great, and the ambiance was cozy as it seemed like an old house remodeled into a restaurant. Anyways, I hope I'll be back again sometime.
google avatar

Lourdes G.

Yelp
I sat at the bar and loved the dimness. accompanied by my candle, I sipped this good dry red that resembles a malbec. Apparently the oysters are from PEI (Prince Edward Island), by Nova Scotia, which is known for its world-class shellfish. Those did not miss. Escargot was escargot, delicious. Cold cuts were yummy.

Yelp
I've been here twice and have brought friends to try this place out, and no complaints! I've been passing by this restaurant for years and finally got to try it. I've tried the beef tartare, the escargot, braised beef rib, and both steaks. Everything was so tasty and perfectly cooked. The 8oz steak was so tender and full of flavour, probably one of the best steaks I've had to date. The sauces that accompanied the dishes was rich and flavourful. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes. I highly recommend passing by earlier to put your name down on the wait list as they don't take reservations and the restaurant is very small. I've only sat at the front end of the restaurant but have seen that they have a bit more seating at the back. If you don't mind waiting they have 2 tables and chairs outside under a heater for those who want to wait outside, why not grab a drink? Service is friendly and wonderful and we never felt rushed. I definitely want to bring my boyfriend here to try the food.

Yelp
WOW! We stopped by for dinner and were blown away by both the service and food here! We were very lucky to be seated right away when we walked in - there were 4 of us and we got there just before 6 pm. We had to try the Côte De Boeuf with Duck Fat Potatoes & Seasonal Vegetables... this was one of the best dishes I've had in Toronto. We got the meat medium rare and it literally melt in your mouth. So flavourful, so juicy, and the accompaniments made it a perfectly balanced dish to split. Our server was awesome - he got our drink and food orders in so quickly and that definitely elevated the experience. I love how the restaurant is also a shop so you can see other produce they sell during the day. It was so much fun and lively here! Would 100% come back.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night & there was quite the wait. Arrived at 7:30 and waited around 2.5 hours for a table (lots of restos nearby to grab a drink and wait). Service is good and friendly. Ambiance is warm and comfortable. We heard good things about Cote so we were excited to give them a try even with the long wait. Food was just mid. - Tartare with fries (4/5): highlight of the meal. Very fresh and balanced. - Ribeye (3/5): wayyy overly salty, but was cooked to the doneness of our liking. Not the best cut of meat but not terrible. - Oysters west coast (3/5): average oysters that came with mignonette and horseradish. Unlikely to return as the food didn't quite meet our expectations for the price and hype. Comparable to Jules.

Yelp
WOooOoahhh! That beef tartare is SO good! I can see why people really come to Ossington to have a try of it. The place is super cozy and small but that means it's also hard to get a table, we got lucky and got the last 2 seats at the restaurant! (Calling ahead or making a reservation is probably recommended) The fries and the toast compliment the tartare SO well! We also got 2 bone marrow but got pretty unlucky that the one bone marrow was not hollow so there was barely any meat to take out of it. But it was SO rich and so yummy! The service was amazing and it felt like I just came over to a friends house who cooked me a good meal. The place was super cozy and you're able to see the chefs in the back preparing everything. Loved the experience and ambiance! Will come back!

Yelp
I have been craving some duck dishes and decided to try this place after my research. The service and vibe are excellent here, and the place is relatively small and has more of a bistro atmosphere which I enjoy. We waited about 15 minutes for our table, and it got really busy when we were about to leave. To start, we ordered the oyster and Escargots au beurre, persillé et ail (Snails with butter, garlic, lemon & parsley) to share. The snails weren't my favourite, but the oysters were fresh. I ordered the Ontario Magret de Canard 8oz (the duck breast) for my main. I loved the texture and just wish it came in a bigger portion. A bit pricey, but worth the quality of food and service.

Yelp
My bf and I are both steak lovers. Came here on a date night. And decided to get their 12oz steak with season vegetables, a steak tater and their escargots. Their escargot was quite good, love the garlic and herb combination and generous amount too. 4/5 I've heard a lot of hype over their steak tartare. Is it the best in the city? I'm not sure.... But I did enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the texture, the steak was cut in bigger chucks so it's more of a chew. I was actually more shocked at how much I enjoyed their fries. Not sure if tartare and fries make sense but I liked it. 3.5/5 Lastly, their steak. It was delicious, beautifully cooked medium rare. Their vegetables tasted just as good because it was drenched in duck fat. 4.5/5 Overall, it's a great place for steak/beef lover! The service was excellent as well. Keep in mind, this is a very small place, and they don't do reservations, so it's not probably not that great for big group most tables are for 2 people but they do have one big "communal" table.

Yelp
Soo sooo happy i finally got to try this place. Definitely a hyped restaurant ive been hearing and seeing a lot for some time but never got the opportunity to try it out & given its walk in only. Came here on a sunday early evening around 6 and easily got a spot in the patio for two and i was so excited. Highlight was the beef tartare!!!! And their bread ... duck fat bread toasted to perfection...crispy outside but soft inside. Service was attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend and would definitely come back. Oh and i love ppl watching - this patio here is great for that (:

Yelp
All I can say is WOW. A must try if you're in the area, there's no reservations so go early and put your name in. Some of the best steak we've ever had and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. Beer tartare was very tasty as well definitely a must try. Loved the atmosphere and great service.

Yelp
just a juicy, perfectly crusted, dry aged ribeye and no frills. i think this may be my fave spot for steak now bc i hate having to pay the pricetag for "steakhouses". the ribeye came with roasted seasonal veg and of course a slab of garlic butter on top! i also tried the beef tartare that many consider the best in the city, me included it came with delicious, toasty bread that i had to get seconds of bc it was THAT GOOD. highly recommend sitting on their front door tables for ppl watching on ossington and 10/10 main character vibes on our menu: 12oz Dry Aged Ribeye (10/10 ) Tartare de Boeuf au couteau (10/10 ) Seared Duck Breast Risotto (8/10 )

Yelp
What a wonderful find Cote De Boeuf was! We were walking around the neighborhood and asked a local for a recommendation, they sent us here. We walked into the lovely little place that's 80% French bistro and 20% market. We walked in mid afternoon and were immediately greeted with a smile. The menu is simple French bistro and we order the steak tartare and escargot for starters. Both were wonderful and the escargot was so good we had to order a second. The tartare was served with some spectacular duck fat grilled toast that's a scrumptious combination. The staff also helped us select a nice little Louis Valley red that was perfect. For wains we shared a ribeye with duck fat potatoes and a steak and frites. The steaks were prepared to perfection. The ribeye was prepared with a truffle butter that added an explosion of flavor. The duck fat potatoes were delicious as well, and the roasted vegetables provided a great balance to the meal. There were many locals coming in to purchase cheese, meats, wine, etc from the place. It's got a great vibe and is well worth finding you way to the neighborhood. Can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE. It has the best atmosphere and the best food. The Cote de beouf is insane. Like insane, it's delicious. Everything about it is delicious. I've been wanting to try the Butchers Table forever and I will I promise myself. Come here and enjoy everything you put in your mouth. The no reservation thing doesn't even matter to me for this place. I'll be there in all weather. GO

Yelp
Cote De Boeuf located on Ossington near Argyle is a small intimate cozy restaurant serving French dishes, mainly steak! They are well known for their steaks as well as steak tartare. The restaurant does not take reservations and is primarily walk in. They do have a chef's table which seats about 6-8 people with a fixed menu that can be reserved ahead of time. However, the restaurant is not big and there is only seating for about 20 diners. I stopped by Cote De Boeuf for lunch on a weekday around 12:15pm. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet. I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. I had the idea of ordering the steak tartare with fries for lunch however...the pasta special that day caught my eye (a raviolo al uovo - duck confit, ricotta & chive stuffed ravioli w/ pine nuts in jus de volaille + shaved perigold truffles on top). I ordered the pasta and decided to go back for the tartare another time. The pasta was delicious. The jus de volaille was exceptionally rich and packed with flavor - the server was even nice enough to ask if I wanted a few slices of bread to soak up the remaining sauce on the plate. The pasta was made el dente and the raviolo was packed with flavor from the duck confit, ricotta and chive. The egg yolk inside also oozed out as I broke the yoke, coating the entire pasta dish. The mushrooms and truffles complemented the other flavours well. Overall, good service and a delicious pasta special! Can't wait to return to try the steak items. Although it was quite quiet when I went in to have lunch, the restaurant did start filling up after 1pm. Do expect to wait if you come at a busy time as the restaurant is not big. Definitely an intimate and cozy dining experience. Will definitely return for more!

Yelp
it's not everyday that you get to sit in a lovely establishment with great ambiance, great hosts and the best steak known to man. Drinks 10/10 food 10/10. My date now calls me Cote De Boeuf for the good recommendation.

Lola L.

Yelp
What happened to you? Where is the cote de boeuf that made me feel like I was transported to a foreign land where the food was thoughtful, excellent, generous, and delicious? Today, you lost me, a horrible and sinewy steak, terrible and limp frites, tasteless aioli, mediocre wine, measly portions, weak service and CRAZY high prices! ($46 for 2/10 steak frites) Please reconsider your approach and maybe stop pretending to be trendy and start being authentic. You had such a beautiful business that is now just another bland ossington waste of time. So sad for you and so sad to have lost your magic. This may have been the worst steak frites I have ever had.

Yelp
Service - Pretty quick service, servers were friendly and quick to get our order. Unfortunately, it wasn't quick to receive our food. We waited 45 minutes for our main course and the couple beside us ordered before us AND finished their main dish before we even got ours. Food - The tartar was disappointing, as we expected it to be very good since it was rated one of the top ones in Toronto. The escargot was good and the steak we lost our appetite waiting before it arrived, however, the few bites we did have were cooked very well. Price - Overall price was expected, it wasn't overly expensive but not worth the price for what we got. Atmosphere - Cozy, warm, and best for small groups. We had a table behind us of 6 - 8 people taking up 2-3 tables that were really REALLY loud but I'm sure it isn't usually at volume. Find the full review on my blog. Link in my bio

Yelp
Visited during OssFest and there were only seating outside on a first come first serve basis. We waited a bit for a table. We ordered the beef tartare with fries and the charcuterie board. When you order the beef tartare with fries, it doesn't come with toasted duck fat bread with it even though the price with the fries was a bit more expensive. We asked for bread and we were brought some. The duck fat toasted bread was amazing with the beef tartare and by far the best tartare that we have ever had and we have had tartare around the world. The fries were really good as well. We have to come back to try the other menu items.
google avatar

Yelp
Rude front of house staff that yelled at us for not waiting outside. Also, never called back about table even though tables remained empty.

Yelp
My friend and I were walking on that Ossington Strip where there are lines and lines of restaurant and we saw this steak and fries on someone's table so we decided to ask for a table of two and order it! We were seated right away in the outdoor dining and their specials which has braised beef ribs with vegetables so we ordered that too! Both dishes tasted great! We ordered the steak medium rare and the ribs were fall the bone yummy. Both are well seasoned. The vegetables are cooked right and not too mushy. The juice of the ribs mixed on the veggies made them more flavourful. The wait for the food took longer and i understand it's probably the ribs making it all tender juicy. It's just that the wait was a bit noticeable and the steak was more medium than medium rare imo tho still tasted great! We shared a creme brulee dessert which was so vanilla-y. Very great restaurant and i highly recommend!

Yelp
I've been dying to try their beef tartar here and it did not disappoint me. Really well made, and friendly service. They do not take resos so make sure you go in early enough to get a table on weekend nights. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their other dishes.

Yelp
This is my fourth time being here. The past 3 experiences was great, but I just don't get it why I got less food this time. The steak and fries size was WAY smaller than the last few times and it looks like it's only the half size of the original size. I asked the waitress why does it look way smaller and her respond was maybe it's thicker and they always weight the steak. I stick 2 pics here, the first pic was the steak I got today and the second was the steak size I got last time. Overall the food was ok, I just don't get it why they treating an old customer like this.

Yelp
A little French inspired restaurant on Ossington was a great little find. The inside seating is a bit dark and small, more like a cozy bar but there was patio seating for the summer. We tried the beef tartare, charcuterie and escargot, with escargot and tartare (and fries!) we're amazing. Unfortunately no French onion soup which we really wanted to try. The main dis we came to try was the big Cote de Boeuf, which is e the name sake of the restaurant, and was impressed by the size and style. I would say that the middle pieces of the meat felt a bit over cooked, as we were told it was recommended at medium-rare - I'd say it was more medium-well. However the dry aging was still able to yield great flavour. Overall, impressed with the restaurant, I would add that there was a bit of a wait time between our apps and our mains, so unsure if that had some bearing on the slight over cooking on the Boeuf. But vibe and food were all stellar.

Yelp
We sat outside for our dinner. The food was good and everything was reasonable priced. The only dish that I think fell short was the Steak Frites. The cut os steak that they use is extremely chewy. But it was cooked perfectly and the fries were delicious. The service is friendly but quite slow. Overall, this is a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant!

Yelp
A nice spot in a cool neighbourhood. When we arrived there was no wait for inside but since it was a nice day about a 15 min wait for outside. Not a bad wait. The food was pretty good, not the best french I've had but still pretty good. I wish they had a few brunch options but that's ok. The staff was pretty friendly and over all I would say it's a nice stop. Because of covid there are no reservations and also the family style part of the restaurant is closed. I thought over all it was just kind of ok but I would try it again when they get back to full capacity.

Yelp
3 months later, my boyfriend and I still think about this meal. Everything was cooked to perfection with the greatest attention to detail. We've been searching for a duck confit like the one we had here, and nothing has come close. Even the cocktails we memorable! If I'm ever in Toronto again, I will definitely return!!!

Yelp
Super nice staff took the time to let us know what was on their brunch menu before their kitchen opened while she was doing her opening duties. Great service. escargot was delicious. Steak frites perfect medium rare. Love it

Yelp
We had a good sunny day in October and the patio was still open. I ordered mussels in white wine sauce and my son a burger. Both dishes were absolutely delicious but my special mention goes to their garlic and buttery bread that blew my mind and I'm still thinking about it 3 days later, like real food porn hahaha. I recommend this place

Yelp
Cute little hidden gem. The place was small but perfect for a date or a small party night out! It was lively and filled with lots of positive energy. The food was definitely amazing! That beef tartare was so fresh and mixed with a whole bunch of flavours that just melted away in your mouth. Oysters were super juicy too! The bone marrow wasnt my thing but it was super fatty for those who like that. French onion soup had a thin slice of cheese on top which was not what I was expected but the broth was tasty .

Yelp
+.5 for service Another surprise find in the Ossington strip. You can probably guess by its name that it specializes in French cuisine and steaks. The place doesn't take reservations if you don't choose the Butchers Table. My party of 3 had about a 30 minute wait for a table, and the seating there is a bit tight. You're likely sharing a table unless you're with a medium sized group. I had the French Onion soup and the NY striploin. What I loved about this place is they give the steak cut to long strips already, and there's no extra eye candy to it: Just the steak and potatoes, without the presentation factor. For $34 that's an awesome deal, and it tastes on par with many of the best steakhouses I've had in NYC. Service is great and the servers are knowledgable. Parking is on-street and paid (no free parking). Frequent transit service on Ossington, Dundas, or Queen. If the seating can be a bit more comfortable this place would be an easy 5-star review.

Yelp
Fantastic place for a Friday night date. Spectacular food and great service. Our first time back in almost two years didn't disappoint. Escargot and salad to start, perfectly seared steak with crisp frites and a thick, creamy aeoli. Finished with the chocolate mouse with sea salt. Love the wine selection - still thinking about the wine I had with dinner.

Yelp
This is my husband and I's favourite spot! It's cute and intimate and it gets busy quick. We go early and usually have no trouble getting a spot at the bar or a cute two-person table. Their fois gras is THE BEST in the city! Top-notch compared with most cities in fact, and I eat in NYC often. They serve blackbird bread which is also the best bread in Toronto IMO. We usually order the rib eye to share and it's tasty and juicy. As for dessert or a snack, if they haven't run out, get their butter tarts! I love the service as well, they are relaxed and attentive at the same time, if ya know what I mean. My goal for 2018? to round up a few people to book their butcher table tasting menu. We also love the food at Union, the sister restaurant and visit often - the atmosphere of the two spots are different but food is consistent and delicious!

Yelp
I was there with my hubby last week. We wanted to go for a quick drink only, while killing time to go somewhere else. We sat outside; server was super nice. I ordered the cider, which was good but not the best I've had. I thought it was incredibly overpriced! $12 for half a glass... half a wine glass! So beware; when you see "artisanal" on the menu, think twice before ordering.

Yelp
Came to this restaurant for my husband's birthday. The servers were very friendly and accomodating. The atmosphere was very romatic and eclectic. However the seating was rather uncomfortable, we sat on stools the whole night around a large wine barrel, not giving enough room to sit forwards. I was sitting on an angle the entire night and my bad posture was making me start to slightly hunch lol. One point knocked off simply for that. On to the food - We ordered half a dozen oysters ($18), which were great. We grabbed a bottle of wine ($68) to share with our guests, and I would give it about a 3/5 - it was lacking a body and flavour. We then ordered steak frites, 8 oz ($29) a VERY generous portion and quite tasty. I would not say its the best steak I have ever had, but still up there. My husband had the AAA Steak - can't remember the name ($45), also with alot of flavour and he was raving about it all night. The service was excellent, the continuously came back to serve our wine and water. Its a small restaurant but well worth the visit!

Yelp
Reservations at the butchers table Small-tiny restaurant Items we had: Oysters Beef tartare Meat loaf style appetizer Foie gras Charcuterie Amazing toasted bread Honey truffle duck Cote de beouf Cheese with honey and bread Chocolate mousse The food was over good.. the cote de beouf was honestly my least favourite just because it was hard to chew... Our server was great. Friendly, professional, attentive, everything you can ask for but not overly doing it. The only thing that I thought was strange is when my friends boyfriend came by at the end to surprise her... and we asked if she could give us an extra plate... She said "so is it 8 or 9" like she was going to charge another person for sitting at the end of the dinner.. when the cote de beouf was pretty much done... so he didn't get a plate...

Yelp
This was one of best dinner experiences ever! This is reminiscent of the many good meals I had while living abroad in Greece. We reserved the chefs table and had their six course dinner which was amazing. We had many different wines to accompany our various course of meats, cheeses, veggies, Foie Gras, bread, duck breast, steak and potatoes, and chocolate mousse. The chef's table is used in the day as the butcher table which is a nice touch.

Yelp
It might not have the best seats, but their food was quite good and the atmosphere was cozy. Service was very nice, they were honest about the portion we ordered might be too much for us, rather than trying to rip us off by letting us spending more. And they top up our wine and water very frequently! Thumbs up! We went on a Sunday and they have half price wine, so we we ordered one of the priciest one, very smooth and full bodied red wine. We also ordered a dozen of oysters, foie gras and Côte de Boeuf, bare in mind all of these only for two! I must say everything was very nice, oysters were fresh, foie gras can't go wrong and their bread was baked with chicken fat, so so good. The Côte de Boeuf was a lot of food for two to share, but it was nicely done, with a crispy surface and just the right amout of wellness we ordered. The potatoes one side were cooked with duck fat, I felt a bit guilty but its worth it. Now, I'm full and drunk, everything was perfect. One of the nicest sundays in the winter.

Yelp
Every meal I have on Ossington is excellent and this is no exception. We got the duck confit and their recommended in house burger as well as the escargots. The aioli that came with the burger and fries especially was excellent. Every dish was to die for and the service was surprisingly fast. Would definitely go again!
