The Best Rotisserie Chicken in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"For anyone looking for a choice spot to eat in NDG, Côte St Luc is not only among the essential options, but it’s chicken is worthy of laudation when considering options across the city as a whole. There’s another out in Dollard, too." - JP Karwacki

December last year, I was in Montreal with some of my friends, and at the suggestion of one of them, we went to a restaurant in the west island for lunch. It was a wonderful offer and a very delicious lunch in a very attractive atmosphere with positive energy. The staff service was commendable (very friendly and respectful). I recommend the delicious desserts of this restaurant to everyone. Whenever I go to Montreal again, I will definitely go to this charming place. I strongly recommend.

Côte St-Luc BBQ has been a go-to spot for me for years. There’s something about the place that brings back a real sense of nostalgia. The smell of charcoal-cooked chicken, the classic coleslaw, and those familiar fries with the perfect crisp always take me back. It reminds me of a time when takeout felt like a treat, not just a convenience. I’ve had the chicken, the sauce, and the fries more times than I can count and they’ve never disappointed. It’s comfort food at its best. I also love the poutine. Always fresh, flavourful, and consistent. The service is friendly and welcoming, and takeout is fast and easy. The fact that they deliver across the West Island makes it even more convenient. If you're from the area or even just passing through, this is the kind of place that feels like home.

Looking for good quality, home cooked like your grandma did, this is the place to try. We both got filled up without spending a fortune. Would definitely eat here if I am in the area again. The carrot cake and crumble apple pie were delicious we couldn't wait to take pictures of those!

Google
The best COLESLAW ever !! And the FF are on par with Lafeurs. ( if you haven’t eaten or tried Lafeurs French fries hahaha you’re missing out ) Chicken is awesome. Wish I had one of these in the states. This is a must for anyone. 5 stars !!!!

Was thoroughly disappointed in everything but the service. Overpriced and under-whelming. Ordered the 1/2 chicken, baked potatoes and salad. The white meat was too dry... and the potato (even though it was piping hot) was quite under cooked. When the butter melted it ran all over my plate, because the potato was too hard to absorb any. The sauce for the chicken was kinda bland, like a weak St. Huberts. Next time I will drive the extra few minutes and return to SCORES!

I have heard about this place many times on the radio but since it's all the way in the West Island, I never really got the opportunity to try it. Until last week, where I was meeting friends in this area, we decided to all come here for supper. The inside looks like a diner and is very clean. The waitress sat us down and gave us the menu. We ordered the sampler platter which included cheese sticks, zucchini wedges, jalapeño poppers and a marinara sauce. I personally loved the zucchini wedges but I must say that the rest of the group loved the poppers. It tasted fresh and although they were fried it wasn't oily at all. We then ordered a large Caesar salad and what really surprised be was that they used the heart of romaine lettuce, I hate when my Caesar salad has those thick dark green romaine leaves. They actually used the heart of romaine which tells me they are not stingy and care about the quality of their food. Now let's get to the main event, the chicken. All I have to say is WOW, honestly it makes a huge difference when your chicken is done over charcoal, OMG it had an amazing smell and taste to it, so juicy and tender, I had the quarter leg, while others had half chicken and chicken sandwich. You can choose your side from baked potato, mashed potato, fries or rice. They also bring you coleslaw and gravy sauce. Everybody loved their plates and we were all stuffed but our waitress suggested Nutella cheesecake and how can you turn down that. That cheesecake was out of this world. Honestly I was so impressed by the food and the friendly staff much better than than any other Bbq restos in Montreal. I will definitely be coming here more often. From all the bbq chicken I have had this was the best, a big 5 stars in my book.

If you are looking for the perfect combination of chicken, ribs, fries and coleslaw, then Cote St. Luc BBQ is the place to be. The great food and the wonderful staff make it the best dining experience for everyone.

Google
Juicy chicken and the fries are very tasty (fresh not frozen kind). Service was good too. Just wish they would have full course meal options: small soup or salad, main meal, mini dessert & fountain drink or coffee/tea for one price at supper time 7 days a week. *Going at lunch time during the week (as suggested by the owner) for a full course meal isn't possible when you are a family who works in the daytime and kids are in school.*

Yelp
The staff is really friendly . The service is fast and great . They have Amazing chicken and fries. The roasted Chicken is tender and juicy . The bbq sauce is great . The meal was great and the prices was very reasonable. They do have one of the best fries on the West Island.

Yelp
Best barbecue sandwich, homemade fries and gravy anywhere. Been coming here since I am a child and recommend it highly. You will love it Guaranteed.

Yelp
Some of the best quality you can get for this type of restaurant/food. Chicken, fries, amazing are all great from here. So is the coleslaw actually. Hell even the bread.....

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this BBQ. It is one of the best I have ever had. The chicken will make your mouth water just thinking about it years later. The frites are hard to compare to any others. They have a fantastic taste, either by themselves or as poutine. The côtes-levées are worth the trip too. I would make sure that I made at least one stop here every time I was in Montréal. My favourite is the Demi-poulet or the spécial deux cuisses. I could likely eat there 3 nights a week! If you are a fan of rôtisserie chicken and frites, this place will not disappoint you. Enjoy!

Yelp
The restaurant is under new management and things are better than ever. A nice makeover to the dining room, with all the classics you love to eat makes this THE BEST chicken place on the West Island hands down!

Yelp
So I used to be a long time customer, loved the place it hit every single spot when it came to craving for chicken. So you can imagine when after a long drive back to Plattsburgh my family and I were hungry and of course we decide to order a couple of club sandwich and two legs. I did what I thought would be a good idea, and ordered through their website. We waited patiently and low and behold or food came from this sketchy looking guy, that didn't bother me at all as of matter of fact gave the guy 5$ tips. So I took inside the house and anxiously opened it up and what do I find two BBQ chicken that I didn't order and two legs. So here I am thinking I will call them up and tell them about the mistake they made and expect a correction of some sort. So instead of having a polite lady on the phone, I got this lady who said no sir you didn't order what you said, so I was trying to explain to her what the mistake was and that I just wanted them to correct it. After a twenty minutes back and forth conversation, she decided that she had enough and gave it to her manager. Now, this guy is a real piece of work, I have to tell you. Not only this guy was trying to impress the telephonist with machismo he started to block me out completely, how so well let's just say he wore me out with his stupidity and moronic conversations and I said after a good half hour of arguing with him, that screw the free club sandwiches and I will pay because I was tired and hungry and wanted something in my belly that resembled a club sandwich. So what did this piece of work guys do instead of selling me more of theirs food he continues arguing with me that I am an idiot and that I don't know what I am talking about because of a stupid print out they got from a computer. So I got so pissed I hanged up the phone and storm out of my house and drove to La Belle Province to grab me two club sandwich, and I thought the kittens at home would enjoy what could pass as chicken, they looked at it and gave me a what for look and just walked away lol. Guess who called back to continue arguing after I hung up the phone YUP the moron who wanted to play tough guy. I gave the phone to my wife and tried to cool my jet for the poor performance and customer service I got. I usually never leave a review or comment on things like this because I believe everyone has the right to have a bad day, but this guy won the Noble Peace Prize for plain idiotic performance... Yikes, this review is long sorry about that but I had to get it out there if I can save one hungry family from making the same mistake I made then it's was worth it to me. (ZERO STARS BIG TIME)

Yelp
Much better than any other rotisserie restaurant. Fries ,chicken, and wings are delish. A good take out place or to dine in when you are looking for a tasty yet price friendly resto.

Yelp
Nice place, tasty chicken, cold beer. I was super hungry and this place was exactly what I was looking for. I used the yelp iPhone app to find it. And a really great find it was. Nice clean atmosphere. Not fancy, but not a dive either. Hockey game on the big TV. I ordered the half chicken with fries and slaw. Nice big portions (see pic). The chicken was done in the rotisserie style and was one the best I've had. Perfectly golden brown and crisp on the outside and super juicy on the inside. I definitely did not lose any weight on my trip to Montreal.

Babak S.

Yelp
If a juicy rotisserie chicken is what you are looking for, then look no further! Give this place a try and you thank me later! The manager was also kind enough to show me behind the scene on my request and I was happy to see how clean and organized this place was.

Yelp
Not too many places make their chicken on charcoal as they do at cote st-luc bbq. That gives it a great taste. I also love the fries and coleslaw.

Yelp
I honestly do not know how this place has a almost 5 star rating! I live in the US & apparently 5 stars or even 3 stars means a much different thing then here in Montreal!!! Where do I begin... First, the food cost us $63.00 after all was said & done. That was for 3 of us...one being a child. Ridiculous amount of money for what we got! Baby back ribs...full set ...was more like mini, over cooked, half rack at most. They were absolutely disgusting. The roll that comes with the ribs was a top if a hamburger bun. Are you kidding me? You couldn't spare the whole bun....and not to mention...nice "roll". Not what we were expecting...that's for sure! Chicken wings were overly breaded & sweet...again, absolutely disgusting. Caesar salad...I've had better salads at McDonalds. Ok, where do I begin once again. Fake bacon bits??? Really??? To my knowledge, Caesar salad does not have bacon bits. Never mind fake ones! Hello?!?! This "Caesar salad" was more like a pile of romaine lettuce with fake bacon bits, croutons & who even knows what kind of dressing it was...but it sure wasn't Caesar! French fris...soaked and I mean, soaked in OLD oil . WOW... Food took over a hour to get here...$63 dollars later & we're all still hungry ...don't waste your time with this place or your money. Absolutely, without a doubt, BEYOND disgusting. Worst food I have ever ever EVER had in my LIFE. Thanks for reading & happy eating :):)

Yelp
I love this place. The decor is brown and tired, the waitresses are elderly, but it's just part of the charm. I hope they never change. The chicken is the best Montreal has to offer, and the fries are sweet, soft and dark... it's hard not to finish them! The BBQ sauce is good, the coleslaw is authentic fermented coleslaw, not that garbage cabbage salad from St-Hubert, and the hamburger bun is sad, so sad, but it wouldn't be the traditional Quebec BBQ chicken experience without it. It's the family's favorite place for get-togethers.

Yelp
I was looking forward to a feast of bbq chicken and some unhealthy poutine. I got both but the taste and quality was a bit lacking. The 1/2 chicken was nicely cooked but a bit dry. The cole slaw was the hit of the night. The bun however was terrible. Dry and tasteless. The sauce was terrible. Like a no-name gravy out of the the Bulk Store. The poutine was okay. A generous portion of cheese curds but unfortunately they used their bland sauce and the fries were soggy and tasteless. Not great.

Yelp
My personal favourite for BBQ chicken, fries and slaw. I've been here on several occasions and it's good every time! Always fresh and piping hot. Their coleslaw is delicious and tangy and Thursday/Friday nights the place is busy. The service is very quick and efficient and in my opinion, Cote-St-Luc's chicken is crispier, less salty and better tasting to me than St-Hubert. The sauce, which I always get two of, is way better as well. I always order the half chicken dinner with fries and coleslaw and practically always do takeout since they are conveniently located just down the street from my dad's place. Delicious and would definitely recommend if you're craving the best chicken in town! Take it from a local.

Yelp
In the mood for good BBQ chicken, you have come to the right place. Portion size are just enough to stuff you. I usually skip dessert for there is no more room. (but they are good so I have heard) great place for a large groupe of friends after a game.

Yelp
After being on my Yelp bookmark list for some time, I finally managed to visit this place with some coworkers recently for a Friday lunch. I won't go into great detail on my visit but basically the chicken offered here is very good. Moist and tender with an abundance of sauce to use. I took a side salad with french dressing and it was very good as well. The service was quick and efficient, albeit a bit robotic. The price tag was about right for what you paid for. I'd definitely come again and I recommend for those who have gotten sick of visiting St-Hubert as the quality of the meal is a notch higher than what you'd get there.

Yelp
What a DUMP! I went here after someone's funeral on a sunday afternoon last year, but after we ordered from there this past weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to tell you guys what I think of this place... IT SUCKS BIG TIME. The food is VERY BELOW PAR. The actual resto. is really old looking, old waitresses (when their this old they are called WAITRESS), old booths, old decor, old smelling... The chicken is probably as old as the rest of it, dry, UNDER COOKED (!?!), slimy. Their fries were soggy and warmish... Our waitress was RUDE and CARELESS and LAZY. The delivery was not much better other than the ambiance was SO MUCH BETTER (home). So many better places for chicken. This is ANOTHER PLACE THAT SHOULD GET A VISIT FROM GORDON RAMSEY TO BE FEATURED ON KITCHEN NIGHTMARE! Shut it DOWN!!!!! Visited June 2013
google avatar

Esteban Y.

Yelp
The sides are bad, I had a boring baked potato, a bad salad, but the baby back ribs were awesome, and that's why I went to this place, for some good baby back ribs. The waitress was kind. The place looks a little bit cheap, not a place to bring a new girlfriend. But I will definitely come back, gotta try that chicken next time.
google avatar

Yelp
This place isn't much to look at. Comes across like a 3rd rate Swiss Chalet. But the food is absolutely delicious. We had the chicken and rib combo with fries. The portions were huge and I ate everything on my plate. They bring the coleslaw out first before the food so you actually have something to nible on beforehand. The best thing is that the food tastes real - like it's made right there from real ingredients, not some large food factory like Swiss Chalet. Would love to eat here again and takeout looks like a good option too.

Yelp
I live very close to this place. One night I decided to drop by for some take out. The chicken was very salty, and I was surprized that coleslaw was extra with their meals. The fries were quite good. The sauce (like most of these places) was obviously made from a powder and was very salty also. I do not understand why these places serve those toasted hamburger buns with the meal...I know that its not a 5 star restaurant...but a toasted white hamburger bun...how 1958. The couple that were ordering after me asked the server if the chicken was well done. The server responded that the chicken was very well cooked. The couple that inquired was from the West Indies. I know that people from the islands like their meet very well done...When I brought my chicken home I thought about the couple, because the chicken was very pink inside. I do not mind my chicken done this way...but I imagine the West Indian couple was disappointed.

Yelp
Disappointing, chicken somewhat dry, unattractive surroundings. Tried the Decarie location years ago and loved it.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
It doesn't get much better than this. Perfect rotisserie chicken with great fries, one of the best parts of the meal is the hamburger bun given to dip in the sauce. This is serious comfort food, nice and greasy, and guaranteed to make you feel better, this is often called Jewish penicillin, as Montreal rotisserie chicken started in the Jewish community. You won't find anywhere that makes better, it's not as famous as the smoked meat, but it might just be better.
google avatar

Mathieu B.

Yelp
I wen't there once with my Pal and his Girlfriend at the time. We were really hungry and didn't want to pay a big tab. Now «Chicken&Rib places» - Not to name the other competitor - are kind of expensive when you order and for a rib fan, the portion are kind off tiny. But not when you eat AT Cote-Saint-Luc BBQ. GOD. I felt i could handle the Rib and Chicken breast with a barrel of Onion Ring to share with the others. Not a good Idea, the portion were enormous and filling. Pretty good food, plain service and OK speed and Greasy like Hell!

Yelp
Best BBQ/Rotisserie chicken on the West Island!

Yelp
I'm a chicken fiend and this is in my top 3 favorite chicken places in North America!! Been coming here for over 10 years every time I'm in Montreal and the chicken is always consistently delicious! It just melts in your mouth...yummy!!! Run don't walk here if you're in the area!

Cam Y.

Yelp
If you like rotisserie chicken, then you will absolutely love this place. I have eaten rotisserie chicken everywhere, and this is the absolute best place on the face of this planet. Amazing fries, amazing chicken, amazing poutine. Why this place doesnt have a line up from opening hour til close blows my mind. I must go here every time I am in town.

EO N.

Yelp
This is my favorite BBQ chicken place. I love their chunky chicken vegetable soup. It's delish. I also keep coming back for the juicy BBQ chicken with amazing BBQ dipping sauce. Love the garlicky coleslaw (hate the creamy "mayonazie" stuff you get ever where else). And their fries .... Yummy! Price is good to - you won't break the bank.

Shaddo D.

Yelp
Ok. Let's get it out there. This is not fine dining. Not even close. The prices have also gotten a bit out of hand overall. The good thing is that you always can find coupons for deals. Having said that the chicken is always phenomenal and if you don't like their fries because they're greasy as a reviewer pointed out the you just don't get it. They're awesome! The sauce is pretty much legalized crack as it is that yummy. The service is nothing to write home about but if you and just a really tasty meal in a diner like ambience this is true place. The reviewer below who pointed out the salad, ribs, etc obviously didn't know that this is a chicken joint, the rest is just add ons to make it appear they have a diversified menu!

Frank F.

Yelp
I had some chicken delivered to my hotel a little earlier this evening. The delivery was fast And the food was really very good. The chicken was nice and smokey. I was expecting it to be dry, but it wasn't. The chicken was moist and was a lot better than expected. This place is worth your time and money. I added a Caesar salad side and a slice of pie. This place is going on the rotation when I am in the Quebec area. If you are staying near the airport, look no further.

Alexandre F.

Yelp
Amazing deserts, good chicken.. I like the place. Only thing... don't order online. They charge a delivery fee if you do (not matter what the amount). Call instead...

Niki N.

Yelp
Does anyone know if the ownership of this restaurant has recently changed? For years, this was always our go-to chicken place, we always knew exactly what to expect and that was absolutely great tasting chicken and fabulous fries, but on two very recent visits (February 4 and 9, 2014), we had a different experience. It seems the recipe for cooking and basting the chicken has changed. The chicken no longer falls off the bones and the taste is completely different from what it used to be. We are very disappointed, as this this used to be the best tasting chicken in town and now there is nothing to replace it.

Bill H.

Yelp
I usually have the order delivered to my home and therefore I do not visit the restaurant. The chicken dinner for the family is very good and worth what I pay for it. I recently ordered a piece of carrot cake with my order of chicken and when I saw what they sent----all I can say is they should be ashamed of the small piece of cake at a price of $4.95. What a joke!!! I'm too outraged to call. If I had seen it before ordering, I would not have ordered.
