Cotixan is a well-known local franchise specializing in Mexican food, primarily focused on drive-thru service, making it a great spot for a quick meal on the go. However, the dine-in experience is also enjoyable, with a cozy atmosphere and plenty of natural sunlight streaming in during the afternoon. Unlike some other Mexican spots, Cotixan doesn’t offer Tuesday specials or Happy Hour deals—prices remain the same every day. That said, they are famous for their crazy huge portions. The Al Pastor Taco and Carne Asada Taco are loaded with meat, almost spilling out of the tortillas thanks to their generous packaging. The Al Pastor, while flavorful, can feel a bit dry, and unfortunately, there’s no pineapple included to balance the texture. The Carne Asada is decent, though nothing extraordinary. The Fish Taco stands out with two deep-fried fish strips on each taco, topped with fresh sliced cabbage for a nice crunch. They also offer two different sauces, both of which complement the tacos well. While the restaurant doesn’t have an outdoor dining area, making it less pet-friendly, the drive-thru provides a convenient option for those dining with pets. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite on the go or sitting down to enjoy a sunny afternoon meal, Cotixan delivers on portion size and classic Mexican flavors.

Best tacos in the area. Awesome portions. The boyfriend usually gets 3-4 tacos at most places. 2 are enough here and they’re bomb! Bring napkins! Birria is amazing!! Drive through 24/7 so it’s a great spot after night beach excursions! Free refills on drinks if you go inside and they have the Coke machines with all the flavors which I love!

Google
This is a lovely little take away with good inside seating. The people working the restaurant are friendly and smile a lot. The chef is excellent, the food is delicious. Had the Birria tacos, huge serving of birria inside. The Cotixan Fries, absolutely delicious heaped full of meat, spices, pico de gallo, guac and sour cream on a bed of fries. Huge portion. Next time had the birria taco again with the carnitas quesadilla. Again huge portion, absolutely spot on. Highly recommend this place.

Google
Burrito was great! Definitely going back here when I'm in the area! I got a breakfast Burrito and for the price it was worth it. Not like other places where you pay alot and only get a skinny burrito with nothing in it.

Google
The Cotixan Mexican food restaurant, next to Valvoline has great food & a fast drive through. I have not been let down there by the taste and quality of the food. They have a clean sit down area, but a smallish parking lot. Caution do not confuse this place with Kotija Jr. in Leucadia. That place has been a let down, no matter what I have ordered.

Google
Chicken tortilla soup is the Best. They don’t have a salsa bar but give corn (or flour) tortillas, a container of onions and cilantro, fresh lime. Plus a handful of salsas. Lots of chunky chicken and veggies. Other places have given me the soup only and I have to ask for all that Cotixan provides. Had to drop it down a notch 11/26 after ordering Chicken Taco SALAD. Service was awesome, but there were about 7 thin strands of lettuce. Next time I’ll ask for more lettuce, less beans and fat. Undeniably delicious (yummy salsas) but I truly wanted SALAD with chicken and a wee bit of beans, sour cream, cheese, guacamole ( was delicious! Real avocados!!!) but not a salad by any stretch of the meaning of the word. It’s what I would call a stoned salad. Perfect munchie food. Amazing crispy shell.

Google
Everything you order here is always so delicious & fresh you can’t go wrong!! It’s our go to for any Mexican food cravings & it never fails us! For example look at these carne asada fries!!! 😋🤤

Google
Not impressed with the chile relleno burrito. Good white cheese, sparse white bean, no rice, lots of sour cream. Felt like eating yogurt, had the run afterwards ! The full salsa bar is gone compared to 5 to 10 years before, just unremarkable red and green sauces.

Yelp
In my opinion my favorite place for surf and turf burritos . The drive through is the best way to get my food a move on. Service is good too.

Yelp
Found mold on our tortillas. Called when we found it at home. I already had eaten mine and it tasted a bit odd. Then my wife found the mold. They didn't believe me. Never going here again

Yelp
Although there are a few of these in the surroundings area, but I can comment on two I have visited. One is in Encinitas and another in Poway! The food is very good, and they serve substantial amount! Price is very fair that is during lunch time which were the two times I've been! It's just counter service at these locations. Service is polite and helpful. Ambiance is ok, clean yes. It's worth trying

Yelp
You save 50 cents I think if you pay in cash. We came here just for the Carne asada fries and it did not disappoint. The meat was not overcooked and well seasoned, there was enough toppings, and the sauces you serve yourself were a nice complement. The portion size was huge enough to feed the 4 of us. Some reviews mentioned that the Guacamole and sauces are watery, and that is true. The hot red sauce also was not really that hot but still tasty. The horchata was not worth getting - not flavorful at all. Overall, I'd come back but one star knocked down.

Yelp
Never leave bad reviews, we loved the food, but customer service is...terrible. The guy at the drive through was trying to act tough and stare us down. Gave my husband a dirty look, when he was being very friendly. I understand people can be annoying and everyone has their bad days but it's not acceptable. Loved the food but probably won't come back because of that experience. Get new staff that aren't so triggered.

Yelp
With temperatures in the low 60's this afternoon, I decided to return to Cotixan Mexican food for lunch. A simple Bean and Cheese burrito with a side order of hot carrots was the best choice. It reminds me of the days I'd finish a session of surfing with the gang and we'd visit the nearest Mexican restaurant to partake in a delicious, seasoned bean and cheese concoction wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. Add a drink of choice, and all would be right with the world.  After enjoying the burrito filled with fluffy refried beans, warm melted cheese and topped it off with hot, spicy carrots, it satisfied my hunger and left me with a warm, happy belly.  Again, all is right with the world.

Yelp
Birria taco was 5/5 Al pastor taco 3.5/5 Rolled tacos 3.5/5 Bean & cheese burrito 3/5 Go for the Birria tacos. Huge portions, packed full of flavors. Be sure to ask for the green salsa. It's fire.

Yelp
I really like the food here, so cheap and great for late night munchies. And they have a drive thru, so you don't even have to get out the car! I've probably ordered drive thru from this place a couple of different times and I do love the grudgy Mexican food this place offers. Namely the menudo soup is oh so delicious and so inexpensive for the portion size. Drive thru super convenient, huge portion size, fast service. What's not to love.

Yelp
Oh wow! Stumbled across this place while out of my area. Actually stopped to use the bathroom and looked up ratings on Yelp. Not sure why reviews aren't higher because it was seriously GOOD! A lot of food, very generous portions. Got the battered fish burrito, shredded beef tacos, chicken soup and everything was GREAT!! Just wish it was in my area.

Yelp
A foreign object (wood screw?) was purposely introduced into my drive-through order. I had complained that my order was not complete. Apparently this is how they handle their clients who complain.
google avatar

Thanks G.

Yelp
$17 for a burrito lol. I don't care how big it is or what's on it, that's ridiculous. I can get a prime rib and mahi mahi burrito for that price at a nice sit down restaurant. Breakfast burritos are supposed to come with beans anyway. Most places just add them for free if they're not included because beans cost next to nothing. The $2.50 guacamole is that fake guacamole type runny sauce that they cut with crema and make out of avocado pulp powder. Most places charge $1.00, $1.50, tops for real guac. The burrito spot by my house is $9 for an asada breakfast burrito with beans and $1 to add guac and I live in a super expensive area of west Mid-City LA. Also, they started watering the salsa down so much that it just runs all over the burrito and taste like water. The habanero one used to be thick and spicy, I literally can't even taste it all now. It just tastes wet. I've been coming here for over a decade and obviously it's not legit Mexican food or a real taqueria for SoCal standards, but it was decent for a fast food spot open late. Now it's completely bogus. Won't be back, I'll hit Kotija Jr by the ocean if I'm wanting that fast food type Mexican food

Yelp
Cashier was extremely rude and very unprofessional. Threw the change at me. It's the cashier that has lip tattoos on his neck. And didn't even ask me if I wanted untenils. He definitely should be fired.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
HORRENDOUS! Horrible service, no AC, and dirty as hell. I'm literally in shock. Please note I am not being overly dramatic. It's genuinely bad here. Nothing in stock and good luck going to the bathroom. The staff was on a lunch break and no one was there to help us with a coin to use the locked bathroom. Never again. Rubios is across the street. SAVE YOURSELF AND GO THERE!

Tim B.

Yelp
4 Stars for the food, subtract 3 stars for the customer service. Person in the drive thru was impatient and short sighted, and I understood it was late but it's a 24 hour business. Sack up and find a different job if you don't want to be working at that hour. Shake my head [in disappointment].

Amaya B.

Yelp
I got the Carne Asada fries- I asked the cashier what comes on it he listed carne asada, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. Failed to mention pico de gallo because I would've asked to have that removed. It cost $15 I feel like I've had better for cheaper. There could've been more carne asada and the guac is watered down like everyone says. This wasn't bad but not my first choice. Appreciate that they have a drive thru, open 24 hours, tried to put a lot of fries in the container.

Yelp
I have never written a review for this establishment because it's always "good news". I almost always get the order-in Sausage Breakfast Burrito with sour cream and it's very consistent, delicious (I actually like the beans which I normally wouldnt get in a BB), and their hot sauce is one of the best around. I've purchase this countless (maybe even hundreds) of times and never once regretted it. And for those that care, they don't have an upfront tip request when paying via credit card which I have to say, in this environment, I actually appreciate. I also like that you can fill your own hot sauce and not have to ask for more. I feel like the low reviews are based on to-go orders and maybe the fact many are late night. Not once have I ever had a problem eatin-in during the day, food is always good, and man I could take shots of their red/orange sauce. There's got to be some sort of correlation with late-nighters and bad reviews because it is one of the most legit taco shops around!

Enrique A.

Yelp
trash ass white washed Mexican food , if ur going to make mexican food atleast add the proper ingredients jackasses , giving me a wet burrito with only asAda and no rice or beans
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
We ordered this place delivery, we were very excited to have some nice Mexican food. They do not annotate that the "Al pastor tacos" are literally ONE taco with a LB of al pastor.. really... for the price... where are the tacos?? Both drinks were flat including the horchata. So overall just disappointment.

Joe M.

Yelp
Consistently screwing up my order and this last one is the last time I go here. When you ask what's in a shrimp burrito and you go home and it includes veggies that wasn't told upon ordering is annoying and the latest f@@@ up's by this place. I don't recommend this establishment.
google avatar

Jerica M.

Yelp
I always stop by here whenever I'm in the area. I enjoy the price + taste of the shrimp/meat burritos! I always go through the driver through.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Not only was the food wrong the hot sauce in the bag was opened. Instead of jualpenos I got a container of carrots I threw those away don't want them. The burrito was soggy. The food almost ripped the bag open should have been in 2 bags not just one. This is the third time our food has been wrong. Haven't complained until now. Honestly I wish there was a way to give negative stars I know now we will never come back
google avatar

Yelp
I almost never leave extremely negative reviews. As a worker in the service industry, I understand the frustration that customers can cause. However, this was the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I ordered a carne asada fries and a california burrito, the cashier asked corn or flour, assuming for the burrito I said Flour. When I received my food I got a carne asada plate instead of fries, I'd been fasting all day due to Ramadan so I was quite hungry. I brought it up to the counter completely untouched and asked the guy with a short beard and black hair, very nicely "Hey, I ordered the fries not the plate, could I have this swapped?" He then said very rudely "I heard plate." So I said "I believe I said fries, anyway can I pay the difference and get the fries?" He then just said "no" and I found out the plate was MORE expensive then the fries. So I paid more for something I didn't want. He then had the audacity to say "it's your fault, you SHOULVE KNOWN when I asked flour or corn." That was completely unacceptable, I work in the restaurant industry, this is not ok. I simply said "ok" and walked away, as I don't care to escalate nor did I have the energy. Absolutely disgusting service. Sad part, the food was good to the point where I would've come back many more times, but no, this cashier ruined it. Oh y también, puedo hablar español y escuché cuando los trabajadores estaban hablando mal sobre yo. But they thought I didn't understand.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
This place is basic. Its good if you are hungry and everything is closed. Its bad if youre not stuck and can eat elsewhere lol They have potatoe taquitos that taste like nothing. I was glad they were not spicy and they had guac but man.. its borderline taco bell! That said, they have a drive through which is a plus AND they can add avocado slices not just guacamole..! Which is becoming more rare So all in all i think it works but i wouldn't gravitate here if i could go elsewhere for Mexican
google avatar

Lakayla C.

Yelp
My husband and I came and he got the enchiladas combo and I got five chicken rolled tacos! Their rolled tacos are the best I have ever had, they don't skimp on any of the toppings and portions were great for the value. Service was pretty quick and the food only took what seemed like 5 minutes and everything was fresh! We will be back
google avatar

Suzanne M.

Yelp
As I was leaving, walking across the parking lot, my long wide bottomed pants caused me to trip and fall on our order of guacamole and chips. The gentleman working behind the counter came out to see if I needed assistance. He then insisted on replacing my order of guac and chips for free. Food is great and staff goes above and beyond.
google avatar

Billy B.

Yelp
Just like that back up to 5! Main reason, they aren't gouging on prices for no reason. Giant steak and egg is still $11, other places close by like El Pueblo are ridiculous now. This place is consistent and have the best orange salsa.

Brianna C.

Yelp
Not going to be rude but the food here is bad am not trying to be a hater to anyone who likes this food am just saying that the fries and beans rice enchiladas chicken have no taste just to let you no
google avatar

Savannah B.

Yelp
The food is pretty good but customer service is very bad. I don't think I've ever come here and had my order completed correctly and if you ask them to fix your order, you get bitched at and they blame you for saying it wrong. Even though we didn't. A lot of this can be solved if they repeat the order back to you. Guy at the window always has an attitude.
google avatar

Isabel S.

Yelp
Nachos Supreme- Asada " 10/10 the chips were delicious, quality tortillas very crunchy. Chile Relleno Burrito " 10/10 it was simply delicious, excellent cheese ratio. Price: Affordable about $23 for both.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
I found a piece of wood in my burrito. I tried to get in touch with Cotixan and never got a response (email, Instagram, Facebook). I can't fathom how it got there but for sure I won't eat there again.
google avatar

Kalani B.

Yelp
Been here 3 times and they mess up my food every time. They talk back when you tell them they made your order wrong. Awful service.
google avatar

Kim E.

Yelp
Delicious; chicken soup, chimichanga, enchiladas, rolled tacos, chile rellano, crispy tacos, nachos, chips, guacamole and best of all, A Drive Thru! Yes! A 24 hr drive thru, need I say more?
google avatar

Kris V.

Yelp
Was in the area thought I'd stop by for a Cali burrito. Haha joke was on me waited 20 mins and there was only one car in front of me? Paid nearly 12 dollars for a basic Cali burrito insanely small for the price. Would never recommend this place nor will I come back. Posted pictures of a so called burrito that was all tortilla. Flavor was decent salsa on point. Worst burrito size I've ever had pictures to justify

Jaz J.

Yelp
Just don't!!!! CAUTION! customer service of person taking my drive thru order and giving me my order was awful!!! First and last time coming here, was expecting something better considering they are located in Encinitas. I didn't even want to eat my food and couldn't enjoy it and they also messed up my order.

Dan R.

Yelp
You might as well go to Taco Bell the burritos are about the same size, but these cost about 12 bucks lol, my favorite though was the new exploding hot sauces, they were all going bad in the little containers so each one you opened splattered everywhere right in your face With so many Mexican places around I'm surprised this place is even in business, The beans taste like good old canned Rosarita. My California burrito had half frozen fries in it, Just save yourself a few dollars and go a quarter mile down the street to any other Mexican place and you will thank me
google avatar

Luis M.

Yelp
I had ordered my fries crispy and I had gotten mine very soggy drenched in oil with no flavor . Disappointed in the crew members today .

Jon S.

Yelp
I saw a review that said there was plastic in someone's bean and cheese burrito because I figured mistakes happen and it's probably not a big deal. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito today and guess what..... PLASTIC! Or a rock, or something, in the burrito. Almost broke my tooth. I don't know whats going on with their process for making beans but it needs to be fixed. Never coming back.
google avatar

A K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I'm a vegetarian, so I can't speak of most of the menu, but if you're like me always looking for something veggie that's yummy, this place is good. The potato taco, and the rolled potato tacos are incredible! Delicious! AND...if you have late night munchies, say after a concert, say after you've hot boxed it several times, they are open, and it's easy to navigate the drive thru! The staff has always been nice. I actually have cravings for those rolled potato tacos with guac, so crunchy and perfect every single time.

Yarin A.

Yelp
Come here all the time! Gilbert is the man! He always takes care of my order and makes sure it comes out perfect every time.

Olivia W.

Yelp
food is SO good, delicious fish tacos and chicken quesadilla, but they get your order wrong 8/10 times and they're super cold and mean most of the time, no patience for their customers. used to love them but have had bad experiences the last few times so im not sure if ill go back (but i live nearby and theyre always open so i will probably have a begrudging burrito every once in a while!!)
google avatar

Jeffery R.

Yelp
$8 Thin burrito. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with no cheese but add extra rice. My body does not agree with dairy and I'm trying to intake more rice. It's like I'm looking forward to lunch and getting a quality burrito in during my shift, so I order a extra rice and bean burrito thinking it would be Two parts rice and one part beans. Instead I get some beans and about a table spoon of rice. I almost went back to ask for more rice, but it seems petty. So I'm curious, is this what extra rice looks like? I'm just not going back, third time trying to get a simple rice burrito with some beans. Thanks guys but no thanks. Still hungry and out $8 bucks (7 bucks plus tip)
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The taco is the size of 4! The salsas are great and the flavor is fantastic. If your super hungry buy 2 tacos you'll be more than fine with only one Taco! You have too use the fork to eat the rest of the meat because they are so massive and delicious!
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
I was craving some street style tacos so I went through the drive thru and ordered a plate with two al pastor tacos. After I paid for my order, I asked if they have some spicy carrots that are usually complimentary at the salsa bar and the lady at the drive thru said they're an extra $.86. ok- didn't really want to run my credit card again for a condiment. My plate was full- very generous portions for the hungry appetite. The al pastor tacos were heaped with small bit of orange meat, topped with an avocado sauce. So far, so good. My expectations for al pastor tacos are generally having juicy chunks of marinated pork with a slightly sweet/spicy chile sauce that is topped off with a few bits of pineapple to complement the sauce's flavor. This was neither- the pork was dry and covered in a dry spice powder that did not resemble the flavor profile I would expect for al pastor. And it was incredibly salty to the point that I had no desire to finish the tacos. And the pineapple was nowhere to be found! ;-( Cotixan - you guys need to get your game on if you're going to advertise al pastor on your menu!

Suzie M.

Yelp
Used to like this place by ate there today . The place is very sloppy . Roof tiles falling down . No salsa bar or napkins I like hot food but their hot sauce that they poured on my quesadilla was way to spicy . Not thank you.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
My wife said, "They have the best breakfast burritos, ever!" Boy was she wrong!!! My wife dragged me to this place for a breakfast burrito. I already have a "go to" place for a BB. I acquiesced and went yesterday. It was terrible!! I got an egg, sausage, and cheese BB. She ordered a chorizo, egg, and cheese BB. My BB tasted like they dumped a salt shaker into the BB with one sausage that was cut in half. AWFUL. My wife was served a horrifically burnt chorizo BB. There is soooo much good Mexican food in Encinitas. Skip this place!!!

Oscar S.

Yelp
Visited this location because it was the only place open on our way home from a trip up north. Ordered a bean and cheese burrito through DoorDash and it gave me an ETA of 30 minutes. I pulled into the drive thru a couple of minutes after placing the order just to ask and confirm if the wait time was correct; gentleman at the window sounded offended by me asking and told us it would take 10 minutes since they just got it. Understandable so I went and parked. Not even a minute later and the order was ready, pulled to the window and guy decided to lecture my partner about how we should order and wait times. Why have DoorDash an option? Why get upset when simply asked a question?
google avatar

Johny G.

Yelp
Not sure what the deal is but I stood there and was never asked what I wanted to order . A guy with a head set looked at me twice and turned around. Another guy came from behind the machines saw me and walked back. I walked out without food and back to work. I don't think I'm going back any time soon.
google avatar

Annie T.

Yelp
I usually come here for their breakfast burritos, but recently tried their fish tacos and they were super good!!! It was nicely packed too and guy at the drive thru was nice.
google avatar

Angelina M.

Yelp
I don't understand why in all of my meals all the avocados are brown like what the f*** I got three sandwiches and a tortilla soup... all old ugly avocado
google avatar

Mccall R.

Yelp
Best food ever, the staff is so friendly and nice to myself and my family. Anything you order is gonna be hot and fresh
