The Country House Restaurant - Gastro Obscura

"Built in 1710 as a farm house, this manor has allegedly hosted everyone from George Washington’s spies to spectral inhabitants. In the 18th century, a girl by the name of Annette Williamson was accused of being a spy and brutally murdered. According to the current proprietors, she is a “friendly and kind spirit” who haunts the premises to this day. In the 19th century, the building was home to English actor Thomas Hadaway, who took an interest in attempting to contact the dead during the early Spiritualism movement. Hadaway would use this home to regularly conduct seances with neighbors to communicate with the departed. The building is now a restaurant and is said to be haunted by the spirit of Williamson, as well as Hadaway’s friend, poet and seance attendee William Sidney Mount. Know Before You Go This is a fully operating restaurant that can be visited during the restaurants hours of operation. Parking is in the back of the building." - Krysten Schatzger

My husband and I went last night to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. It was our first time there and it was absolutely AMAZING! The Country House is beautifully decorated and I immediately started telling my friends about our wonderful experience and wanted to share it on Google reviews as well. The Country House has such character and we loved the ambiance. Everyone who worked there was super sweet and helpful. Bob greeted us at the door and welcomed us. Zachary was our waiter and he offered top-notch service and Shane bused our table and was very on top of things. I asked Zachary and Shane about their ghost experiences and they shared their stories with us. Originally, my hubby and I were going to get the French onion soup and chicken cordon bleu, but they had a special for $75 that included the French onion soup, filet mignon and pecan pie with ice cream. We went with that and everything was delicious! We also bought a bottle of wine that was reasonably priced and cappuccinos. Bob the owner followed up with us to ensure our meal was perfect. I brought my EMF reader because I was hoping to catch a ghost. It did go off in the Old Field room, where we were sitting in the Fireside room, and also outside. I did not "see" any apparitions or anything out of the norm. We spent a good amount of time speaking with Bob about the spirits there, decorations, different events they offer and learned he has been the owner for over 40 years. Keep up the great work Bob. You have an extraordinary, beautiful place and we can't wait to come back during Christmas time and/or psychic night. Thank you Bob, Zachary and Shane for making our 15th wedding anniversary very special - one that we won't ever forget. -Anna & Greg Alesi

Google
The country house is cozy beautiful restaurant with amazing food, wines and staff. The chicken cordon bleu is amazing, the best I have ever had. Second favorite would be the eggplant rollatini with angel hair pasta. The Atom Cabernet and Chardonnay as house wines are so affordable and absolutely delicious at just $40 a bottle. If you choose a martini you will have never had one larger at any restaurant, these martinis are more than worth the price. In December the decorations are unreal like a Christmas fairy tale, but it’s also their busiest season so consider trying in October when it’s all decorated for Halloween or maybe February, Valentine’s Day at the Country House will be a night to always remember!

I stopped in for lunch with a good friend recently. We sat at the bar and had several appetizers after a quick 9 holes! I had not been to this lovely restaurant in years but having been in the business knew of its reputation! Robert, the owner was so friendly and gracious, food was superb, staff was top notch and setting was spotless and ok Point! It was just the perfect way to enjoy an old friend, a chilled martini and a relaxing afternoon! I will be back! Meet us there!

Bob and the staff at The Country House are so very wonderful! I had the BEST tuna ever! The atmosphere is very cozy and bright. Everything on the menu is great! I go every year for Mother’s Day an each year it gets better than the last of that’s even possible. 10/10!

This place screams Christmas!! It was absolutely beautiful inside and out. The food was delicious and the service was superb! Wendy was as sweet and funny as could be with a stunning, warm and genuine smile. She helped to make our girls' night out a sweet success!!

Was so excited to celebrate my birthday here. It's been impossible to get a reservation. The ambience is amazing and the house itself is uber cute. Unfortunately that's where it ends here.... The prices are terrible with respect to the food quality which was very mediocre. The selection is great. But nothing blew me away whatsoever except for the check. The server was extremely slow and inexperienced though this didn't appear to be his first night. It ultimately was a very lack luster performance and if to add insult to injury, they didn't bring anything for my birthday either. That part is fine of course, but just surprising. Also surprising, they charged me 30 dollars for a kids chicken tender meal and 6 dollars for a very small kids coke. Highway robbery, steer clear!!! 😵

Don’t listen to the negative comments. People are just miserable. First of all this place is amazing! The atmosphere is so cozy and gorgeous and the service is excellent. The food is out of this world. It’s worth every penny you pay. The staff is very friendly including the owner as well. We come here often and it never disappoints. The cordon blue is the best! The fried calamari is incredible, the pork chop is off the chart’s delicious. Many dishes too many to mention are all so delicious. I will highly recommend this amazing place to anyone. It also has a really cool history as well.

Google
Do. Not. Go. Here! Coming from someone who doesn't mind paying extra for quality, service and atmosphere. While it is pretty, the customer service made it feel very tense. The owner is exteremly nasty to both patrons and employees. The food wasn't memorable or anything to brag about but the most insulting part was they had the audacity to charge us $8 per soda, and that didn't even include refills!!! I kid you not. Also, our glasses were still half full when the waitress asked if we wanted a refill, and again paying $8 per soda we thought it safe to assume it would include a half of a refill. It did not. The owner acted like I was insane to think that an $8 soda (maybe 12oz with ice) would include a refill. There are much better places to spend your money & time!

Yelp
My husband and I went here last night for my birthday and I have to say the place was beautifully decorated for the holidays and very cozy. I didn't realize it was a special holiday menu so alot of the the things I saw online were not there so I was pretty disappointed. Service was good and so was the food however my husbands Winter Wonderland Salad came in a very small bowl and he kept pushing the few greens aside to find the pecans and the blue cheese was like dust. I had the lemongrass dumplings with seaweed salad and they were very tasty. Our main meals were duck and scallops and we completely enjoyed them. When the bill came we were shocked that we were charged $8 for a glass of seltzer!!! What?? That is insane!

Yelp
I've enjoyed my visits to the Country House whenever I'm in the area. The decor is straight out of a home design magazine spread and the food presentation could win an award. Serving sizes have not suffered post Covid and you'll leave there full. Meat is tender and pasta is cooked to perfection. You won't regret a meat in this antique house built in the 1800s. It's a fairytale setting where I've enjoyed bonding experiences with family members.

Yelp
$78 for 2 lobster pots to go. that equates to 8 ounces of Lobster.... which equates to $140 per pound for the little scrappy chunks of discarded lobster that they gave us. Do the math yourself. I 'll never go back... and , I loved that place!!
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
The place is pretty, but trying to charge us 70 dollars for 4 sodas and 4 refills is pretty embarassing for them. They dont post the price of a soda on their menu and then they ask if you would like a refill when you still have half your soda. Because it takes them an entire 3 hours to serve you you get excited when they offer to refill your watered down off brand soda only to be horrified when you find out they charge 8.00 for a glass of soda and refills are not free. Oh and Bob is mean to be honest. Bread was good though!

Yelp
This gem of a restaurant is in Stony Brook it was the most delish food and the most perfect atmosphere I have been in !! The service was impeccable. The owner was personable and just a joy to talk too. If you haven't been here please go , you will love it . We will definitely be back .
google avatar

Arianna Z.

Yelp
Meet the very personable Bob, the man who runs the place! He is a total gem! He is so sweet and truly caters to his customers. It felt more like Home than "house". Their food added to the ambiance with delicious "home style" "home cooked" meals. The killer tomato soup warmed my soul and the buttery brisket soothed my bones. His pumpkin cheesecake is frikken AWARD WINNING !! I don't even like cheese cake but the insisted his was different and omg was he right. I've been day dreaming about his cheesecake since. It wasn't dense or heavy at all! It was so light and airy and didn't put me in diabetic shock. Overall, 100% would go back and recommend to friends and family.

Yelp
Closed on Tuesdays. Called 8 times to make a reservation on a Wednesday, weeks in advance of when my group wanted to go to Country house and they had a busy tone. They are not available on Open Table or Resy. After many attempts, my information was taken down and I was told someone would call me back to confirm my reservation. I never got a callback and tried calling back many times again on Thursday to make sure our reservation was in place. I was told, "Oh, your name is already here for this time and date." How frustrating. First impression: We get to the restaurant for lunch, and crickets. There was no one in the front of the restaurant for a while. The decorations were beautiful, but I found it odd that someone decided to hang lights while our party was seated since they knew we were coming in. Why now? In addition to that, we did not get our menus for a while after we were seated even though there were no other guests in the entire restaurant. A very odd start. Food & Drinks: Our waiter did a great job. He sold us on some poinsettia bubblies, which he described as "like a lava lamp, the craisins go up and down". After ordering, we were given some bread. The bread had cheese on top and was warm and delicious. About an hour after arriving, our food was on the table. Our table got grilled beet salad, soup of the moment: creamy tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons, vegetarian flatbread, braised beef short rib flatbread, poached Maine lobster roll, dry-aged filet mignon, and a mushroom & onion burger with cheese and bacon. I liked that my burger came with onion rings, cole slaw, and fries rather than having to choose one. I did not love anything in particular on my plate, but the display was nice. The burger was average and the fries were crispy. We were given a dessert menu to choose from with plenty of dessert options & boozy coffees. They all sounded very good. Three people got coffee and said it was very good coffee. I tried the creme brulee and it was very good. Overall, my favorite part about Country House was the decorations and my least favorite part was how difficult it was to make a reservation.

Yelp
Country house was absolutely fabulous! During the holiday time, the restaurant is decorated beautifully and gets you in the Christmas spirit. All the staff was super friendly and our server was amazing! For our meal, we did the price fix menu which included a starter, entree and dessert. I got the tomato soup, duck breast and apple crumb! Everything was super delicious and fresh! Definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or nicer meal!

Yelp
8.00 a soda no refills. 29.00 for a bacon cheese burger and 15.00 for a piece of apple pie all the food was ok. Not amazing. 5 guys blows away this burger by a mile.

Yelp
This place is amazing around the holidays! The actual restaurant is wrapped around with a pretty bow on the outside and absolutely beautiful inside! Each corner is decorated for the holiday and creates a classy and magical experience for the the diners. We got the holiday dinner menu which included escargot, beet salad, filet mignon, and braised short rib. All were exceptional. The dessert and drinks were great and the service was very attentive. I would highly recommend coming here and checking it out for yourself.

Yelp
Start by saying the ambiance is awesome. Feels like your in small little house. Nicely decorated. Service was good. Now the food...the Calamari appetizer tasted like frozen food aisle box of calamari. The lobster roll came on a piece of white bread that was folded and fell apart when trying to pick it up. The lobster itself was good. The fries that came with it were soggy, noting to write home about. My wife had the Tuna which was just ok with rice that was drowned in a sauce.

Yelp
Dined here with friends last night and had an awful experience. The restaurant requires a $25.00 per person fee when scheduling a reservation. One of our friends had to cancel last minute due to her son having RSV. The remaining 5 of us attended and the owner/manager said we are being charged $25.00 since the 6th person was not in attendance. This was never mentioned over the phone and isn't on the restaurant's website either. His tone and arrogance when speaking to us was completely unprofessional. The food and drinks were okay but nothing to rave about. Very overpriced for what you are getting. There are a lot of other restaurants on Long Island that offer Christmas decor during the holiday season with great food and pleasant working staff.

Michael C.

Yelp
My wife and I went to Country House because we were in the area and visiting the town of Stonybrook. The ambiance and decor is beautiful and the ghost story definitely adds to the atmosphere. The staff are amazing! We were impressed to find out how friendly, polite, and professional they were. However, our hearts dropped when we saw the menu and the prices. A hamburger was $25 and $27 if you want cheese. A chicken entree started at $38. A 7 oz steak started at $80! These prices are higher than NYC! Not to mention the chicken entrees we ordered did not have any taste! When we got the dessert menu, everything was $15....even ice cream. At that point we just gave up, cut our losses, paid and left. These inflated prices seem like theft, and using "inflation" as an excuse doesn't support the exorbitant prices. There should be a sign in the front of the building that says "rich people only, no middle class please". And the icing on our cakeless date, we didn't even see the ghost for the extra premium!!! One and done! Save your $!!

Yelp
We went here recently for lunch as part of a family celebration relating to nearby Stony Brook University. We had a party of 9. The place looks nice, fitting for any event. There is adequate parking. We ordered a variety of dishes: chicken cordon Bleu, French duck, mussels, stuffed shrimp, roast beef with French dip, cheesesteak, swordfish, and short ribs Flatbread. All were happy with their dishes, except for the short rib Flatbread. I can't specify why, maybe a matter of taste. My only sore point is the lack of free refills on beverages. Considering the prices for the food, it seems chintzy. All in all, we had a nice time.

Yelp
We called for a reservation, ok bob will call you back. No call. Went in and made a reservation Instead, told to wait for bob to call us for credit card Info? Why I'm already here? Should have been the cue to skip it but we went for dinner. Lobster was cold, sent it back so they microwaved it and served again (hint:don't microwave lobster) terrible. Filet mignon was over cooked. Chocolate lava cake was cold. $400 before tip for 4 people with 1 drink each. I have absolutely no problem paying this, as long as I get what I paid for and they did not deliver. Icing on the cake, we Wanted to have another drink on the way out and were told the bar was too busy. All seats were reserved but it was just bob and 1 woman. Thanks bob!

Yelp
They won't even check for seating when there are plenty of empty seats. At least explain if it's reserved or provide alternatives. I waited for 20 minutes with them either being short staffed or rude for no reply with a status on availability. Coincidentally, there were no minorities seated in this restaurant when we arrived. I'm not even bothering to come back when they aren't welcoming.

Holly K.

Yelp
$8 for a soda. Doesn't even include free refill. Never again. Total rip off and everything is way over priced

Madeline G.

Yelp
Very disappointed. We arrived at 12:45 for lunch. There were many empty tables, but were told they couldn't seat us because their 2:30 seating was fully booked. We were rushed out and were very unwelcome.

Yelp
I've had my eye on Country House for a while now. I looked it up and saw they had their Christmas decorations up until the end of January so I had to check them out last week for dinner! They did not disappoint!!!! Everything from the staff, decor, ambiance and the food was top notch!! My friends and I had the chicken dumplings to start along with french onion soup and tomato soup. The French onion was probably the best I've ever had! The tomato soup was also incredible and I was jealous I didn't get that one as well haha! The chicken dumplings were fresh and delicious! For our meals, I had the sirloin burger, my one friend had the tuna and my other friend had the scallops. I don't even like scallops and yet I tasted it and was impressed! The burger was so flavorful and the fries were definitely a great addition, house made and fresh! We had a few cosmos which were made perfectly and ended our meal with a snowman dessert that was fried ice cream with chocolate ganache. I cannot say enough about this place and I can't wait to go back for Easter! I heard the decorations are great then too! Our waiter, Zachary, was fun and energetic and was definitely a great time! Exceeded all of my expectations!!!

Yelp
After driving by Country House many times and hearing about their amazing Christmas decor, my friends and I finally got there for dinner on their last decorated weekend. Every single thing was incredible. It was hands down one of the most delicious meals I've had in a long time. Ordering from their special Christmas menu, first we shared chicken and lemongrass dumplings. Then we all had a soup. I had the French onion and it was perfect. One of the other girls had a tomato with grilled cheese croutons. Yes. Tiny grilled cheeses as croutons. How can you beat that? For my meal I had the tuna with ginger risotto and noodles on top. It was to die for!! That risotto was so creamy and had the perfect amount of ginger flavor that was want overpowering. The other two girls had the scallops and the burger. Both got rave reviews as well. The portions are large as well but they do charge a sharing fee if you plan on that. Of course we had room for dessert- frosty the snowman. Fried vanilla ice cream with a brownie on top and the cutest little top hat. No one was lying when they said how beautiful the Christmas decor was. It was really nice to have that one last taste of Christmas. The decor, the food (don't forget the spot on Cosmos as well) and the service all made for one of the best dinners in a long time.

J Z.

Yelp
$8 for a soda and no free refills? $64 in drinks absolutely absurd! $29 for a bacon cheeseburger that was mediocre. Never again terrible experience
google avatar

Alexandra L.

Yelp
Magical Night!!! Took my family to Country House for a Christmas season dinner. The decorations and ambiance is gorgeous enough to go there. The food was outstanding. My kids are 8,10, and 12 and all loved their dishes off the regular menu. Our server was super sweet and very attentive. I got the short ribs which were tender and falling off the bone. Highly recommend for a special night out!!!
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
The food here was good, nothing incredible but fine. The service was friendly when I was there. The ambience is very nice. But the prices... holy moly. A soda should not be $7. And if it is, you should be told when you order it. I burst out laughing when I got the bill, because the alternative was crying. I know costs are high and everyone is raising prices and looking for ways to make a few bucks back. I totally understand. But the food here isn't so next-level good that it can price-gouge. I don't pay extra for ghosts.

Daniel S.

Yelp
too pricey for just OK food, drinks were expensive and watered down. The owner works the bar and is very rude.
google avatar

Symone F.

Yelp
The food is decent and the ambiance is wonderful. The decor is very unique and changes seasonally. Love the short ribs here. The chicken wings were not crispy-probably didn't cook long enough. The wedge salad was huge. Super kid friendly menu. The servers are very welcoming and helpful with suggestions. We will come back.

Dawn C.

Yelp
The food and service were excellent but as soon as our party finished up their dessert, we were asked to leave. We all thought that was extremely rude since we just spent $1500 on our meal. It wasn't as if we were sitting there for half an hour after finishing up. We also were not told when we made the reservation that there was a time limit.

Robert C.

Yelp
My wife and I got married at the Country House on Saturday, September 24, 2022. It was a beautiful day and the staff at the Country House made it even better. The owner and the staff made our day amazing. All the people that attended are still talking about the amazing service and food. They took care of all our need from the ceremony on the grounds, to cocktail hour and the reception/dinner. I would recommend the Country House not only for weddings, but any special occasion that you may have. Thanks to the Country House for an awesome day and attention to detail.

Yelp
Went first time to this place . Decoration was very fancy but cozy place the food was really good

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant. The Christmas decorations were amazing. We went for a 2:30 seating and it was a price fixed menu. There were 7 of us in my party and it was my mother in laws birthday. They were very accommodating with my gluten allergy and the waiter went and checked on all of my concerns. I started with a salad and then had the best halibut ever. It was served over a lobster hash. Simply amazing. My only complaints, but I won't take stars off, is the bathroom could have been neater. Not terrible but definitely needed straightening up. The other thing was the hovering of the staff busing the table. They shouldn't be felt and when people are still eating don't immediately pick up the empty plates. Makes people feel rushed. I can't wait to return it is a simply charming restaurant and the food was delicious.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars, I would. The staff is rude and openly complained that they might not get a tip. Meal is incredibly overpriced ($8 a soda?!) and the meal in total took 3 hours to come out. AVOID!! Such a shame cause the inside is cool.

Michelle C.

Yelp
The restaurant was decorated beautifully for the holidays. It was recommended that I use the coat room to hang my sweater. When I chose not to, the maitre d warned me I can not hang it behind my chair. That turned me off immediately. We were seated and the waitress came to take our drink order. They had a very small selection of beer, no beer on tap. When I asked what kind of light beer was available, she didn't know what was light and recited the beer list again. She said they had Bud Light. Great, I'll take it. She came back from the bar to say they ran out. Ran Out? It's NYE and I am only the first seating!! Another turn off. I was in a room with 3 other full tables. All our meals came out at the same time, regardless of who ordered first. The food was okay, nothing crazy for the price. After dinner, I ordered Mexican coffee for dessert, my husband crème brûlée. The waitress brought me regular coffee, okay maybe she didn't hear me correctly. She brought my Mexican coffee that was overflowing in the mug, spilling all over the dish and my husband's dessert didn't come till everybody's was served. By now I was done with my coffee. The entire room got their bills at the same time and paid at the same time. Now there was a line at the coat check we were demanded to use. After reading the other negative reviews, I am done with this restaurant till new management takes over. Many many years ago, this restaurant was beautiful, what happened???!!!

Yelp
I finally went to the country house and it was everything I wished it would be.The holiday lunch was pure perfection. Every dish I had was truly delicious. The holiday decorations are a must see for sure. My brother and I enjoyed our three course lunch. My brother had the winter salad, the duck and cheesecake . He raved about his food too. I had the winter salad, the pot of lobster , and cheesecake. I couldn't have made a better lunch choice than that. The service was amazing as well. We had such a nice waiter. I cannot wait to go back there for another holiday to see the decorations. I'm still dreaming about the food I had.

Yelp
Came in from Queens just to explore. This place is surprisingly very good. As a NYC executive chef, I rarely am satisfied by Long Island dinning. This place was good start to finish. Charcuterie board - kick ass Wedge salad - kick ass Ahi Tuna - kick ass.

Yelp
Had Dinner with family there last night. We originally reserved for 10 people but one person had to cancel last minute because he was stuck at work. When we originally made the reservation, they required a 25$ deposit for each guest which we were told would be credited to the bill for a total of 250$. We were never told if a guest doesn't show up that you lose the 25$ if a person doesn't show up and it goes to the house. When we got the bill which was a little over 700$ with tip it was snakingly taken off without no explanation. When I asked the waiter about it, he was very embarrassed because he says the owner does this all the time and puts the burden on the waitstaff to deal with. I asked to speak to the owner who was serving drinks behind the bar. When I spoke to him about it he was very rude and arrogant and told me its only 25$. I explained to him it's not about the 25$ but what he is doing is wrong. After a brief heated discussion, he agreed to refund my 25$ as long as I never came back which was fine with me since I already decided I wasn't. The waiter was great and tipped him in cash because I was told the owner takes from the waitstaffs tip if you charge on the card I guess since he was working the bar. I heard a lot of negative things about the restaurant before we went but gave it a chance anyway. The food was Ok but definitely not worth price.

Yelp
We couldn't have asked for a better venue and space to have my bridal shower at. The Country House is a beautiful and historic restaurant located right in Stony Brook village and has so much charm and history--we absolutely loved it! The restaurant was decorated so beautifully; filled with lots of flowers, greenery and pretty lights. The staff were ALL so amazing, kind and helpful from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Bob & Zach were extremely hospitable and accommodating to everyone of our guests and made the day so nice. The food was delicious and bountiful. We started the party with appetizers that included lobster salad, cheeses and meats, dumplings, shrimp cocktail, zucchini fries, chicken cordon bleu bites and so much more. For the seated entrees, guests had the options to choose from a pasta Bolongese, Chicken Milanese, pasta primavera or grilled salmon. Every entree (from what I've heard) were delicious! A champagne punch was also offered as guests entered the restaurant and servers walked around offering wine, beer and soft drinks. My cake was beautiful and so delicious, on-top of the assorted dessert plate that was given to each guest with tea or coffee. Appetizers, entrees, cake, assorted desserts, flowers, beer and wine were all included. Everything was better than the next! The staff really were the cherry on-top to how amazing the day went--we can't thank them enough for being so great! They even helped us take out, the many presents we had piled up, to our cars and were just so helpful.

Yelp
It's truly is the most wonderful time of the year in this restaurant. Magical Christmas decor, warm and cozy atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff.

Yelp
The Country House has been around for decades. I used to dine there often but have not been there in close to 10 years. I called a month before to reserve for a party of 10 for Valentines evening. I had requested the greenhouse room and was told by Bob the owner that they dont take reservations for that room. They seat it as they see fit. Ok, not a problem. The afternoon of Valentines Day i called to confirm the resevation and was told we didnt have one for 10 people but, in fact, it was a reservation for 6. Bob was very rude on the phone. He called back a few moments later and said he had gotten a cancellation so he would try to "squeeze us in". I would have canceled but it was last minute and any decent restaurant would not be able to accomodate 10 people. Upon arrival, Bob was very indifferent and seemed that he wantes to be anywhere but there that night. Our server was wonderful. Food was mostly good, baked clams casins were the tiniest clams i have ever seen. I ordered the veal chop medium rare. It was served well done. I didnt say anything because at this point i knew none of us would be returning. A shame. We had a $1500 bill. Many other wonderful places to dine where we are treated special

Decorations for Christmas are beautiful. Food is mediocre. $8.00 for a Diet Coke. That last thing sealed the deal for never going back. I could understand the overpriced food but $8.00 for a soda. Come on, that's real price gouging. Good Bye!

Yelp
We recently hosted a rehearsal dinner there. It was absolutely perfect. I cannot say enough good things about Bob and his wait staff. It made for a memorable experience. The food. The food. The food. Everything was perfect and plentiful. Recommend for events, holiday gatherings or a lunch or dinner with family and friends. Thank you again Bob, et al

Yelp
Long Island has been gifted with many fine restaurants, some are known for their food and service, others for decor or location, fewer for their real history. One of the rarest gems sporting all the above is The Country House in Stony Brook. I have called the tavern and restaurant within "home" for a very long time. Recently life has preventer the several weekly visits for lunch, dinner, cocktails or just meeting for good times. Yesterday a return visit for lunch and cocktails reminded why too many are missing the Country House for special times and just to hang out and enjoy the host, thanks Bobby! See you soon, remember the corner seat is mine, keep MY glass ready!!

Yelp
Been here a few times and still such an amazing place. Nice cozy romantic anniversary to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Always decorated for the holidays. Food is superb, comes out hot with incredible flavor. I had the duck, which was so delectable. And my fiancé had the scallops with mushroom risotto which was also incredible. The desserts are truly a treat. Many unique choices for specialty coffees. I had the one that combined amaretto and Baileys, which was better than I expected. Will definitely keep coming back for more.

Yelp
We were a family of five and wanted a nice place to eat while visiting Stonybrook University. The menu is so varied there was enough to please all of us. The atmosphere is welcoming and unique. We had almost every item on the appetizer list: escargot ( amazing on par with other French restaurants in Manhattan), french onion soup ( delicious), fried zuccini, fried mozzarella, cocktail shrimp, charcuterie board ( well presented and great variety), lobster bowl ( super yummy!) and cesar salad. For entrees, we had the short ribs ( soft and tasty), surf and turf, lobster mac and cheese, monte cristo and the salmon. I just have to emphasize that with so much to choose from on the menu, I though it was going to be a jack of all trades but master of none situation. I was completely blown away how they prepared everything to perfection. And service was wonderful, friendly and attentive. We look forward to returning when we make a trip out here again!

Yelp
My husband and I went this afternoon for there Christmas luncheon. Where we were sat was less then appealing looked like my 3 season room at home . We waited 25 mins before they realized we didn't have menus. Our waiter was less then average. Once my meal came it had hair in it. Told Who I believe may have been a manager. Once he came over I had to actually point out the piece of hair. They took my dish back only to receive the same chipped plate I had had earlier. Waiter never came back to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. Manger asked from a distance in his words" we good". (Thought maybe he would've came over to ask). Very disappointed and never will go back. What waste of money and the $7.50 glass of seltzer was the icing on the cake!

Yelp
We had our wedding here last month, and people still can't stop talking about it. From the park like ceremony setting, to the amazing cocktail hour, and the service!! Bob is one of a kind. He is truly a gentleman and a professional. He does what he promises and then some! I can't explain how happy I was that day (and still am looking back) this Restaurant made my wedding dream possible. If you are looking for a unique, boutique, perfect wedding....you came to the right place! Also so many of my guests have told me they are going back to the restaurant for dinner...and I must say I have eaten here before the wedding and it is phenomenal. A restaurant that is not like any other you will ever experience. It feels like home. Thank you Bob and the entire staff. You really are the best.
