"The exterior of Albert Ventura's fine dining establishment is unassuming—right off the Diagonal Avenue, a few blocks from Plaça de Frances Macià, the facade is simple and reserved, which actually matches the restrained, bare-bones décor inside. The formal dining room here is actually downstairs—there, you'll find a pre-fixe menu of small, gorgeously plated takes on traditional Catalan dishes. While the dining room is great for large parties or special occasions, we actually prefer to be seated at Ventura's more casual tapas bar upstairs. There, you can chit-chat with the chef about each dish, and order from an a la carte menu that, if a bit more casual, is just as elegantly considered as what you'll find downstairs. Either dining area is great for a more dressed-up lunch option."

Changed my review from a 1 for a 5. I was initially very disappointed because they cancelled my booking last minute, however after expressing my disappointment, management got in touch personally to try to correct the situation. We chose to give it a chance and the food and service were superb. Am really glad we persevered.

This is a typical Catalan cuisine restaurant . It is cozy. Dishes here are carefully elaborated for you to enjoy. Well done, Chef Albert!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic meal. Excellent wine recommendation, and the food is terrific. Oxtail was best I've had. Don't miss the ceviche or croquettes. And the chocolate/orange dessert is to die for. Eggplant appetizer very special. Small dining room but quite elegant- need a reservation.

Yelp
Agree with other posters: sit at the bar if possible. Lunch here was one of the highlights of my trip, with top notch service and food. The best dish was easily the ceviche, which combined avocado and salmon roe with dorado (sea bream) -- delicious. All in all, a nice bottle of Albariño paired with a few dishes and friendly conversation with the chef made for a very nice afternoon.

Yelp
A very nice experience but not transcendent like my meal at Gaig. With a nice bottle of red wine we enjoyed: Cantabrian anchovies in olive oil [fillets of white boquerones]; Maldonado Iberian shoulder with 'Pan con tomate' [deliriously delicious razor slices of Jamón with a side of traditional tomato bread]; Iberian pork roast beef - tubers and mustard's tofu [menu said pork but it tasted like roast beef - nice, not great - thinly sliced and served as a sort of salad with Spanish almonds, roasted beets, a few greens, and a drizzle of slightly too sweet syrup]; razor clams 'tres dedos' - courgette, citrus vinaigrettes [razor clams out of the shell served cold with thin strips of zucchini, strips of pimento, Spanish almonds - decent, but I prefer my razor clams hot and in the shell and there was some sand in the clam's cavity as well]; and finally oxtail cooked in red wine - pork sausage, potato parmentier [oxtail picked, shaped, held together by caul fat - nice but not exceptional]. 3.5 rounded up.

Yelp
You want to sit at the bar here. I never prefer bar-seat dining, but in this case, it's a must! The formal dining room has a different menu and a more formal vibe. I had the best seat at the bar -- the end -- where I could watch the talented sous chef prepare each beautiful, delectable plate full of tasty treats. The temptations were endless, and everything we ate was outstanding. There are no wrong choices. Go there hungry!
