The room was great, but the staff made the experience. On New Year's you can expect a busy night but the front desk handled everything efficiently. We did miss out on the champagne they offered and we had to pay a cover for the Bistro, this was corrected by free drinks and breakfast coupons as it was the whole reason we booked to begin with. The location is great as there are many options for a night life with many clubs and restaurants immediately available and is in very close proximity to the Van Andle Arena.

Great little hotel. It's very nice, neat and clean. The bistro inside does some really good food. Really enjoyed the French toast and grilled chicken sandwich. Try them both.

Google
All around great experience. Parking and check in was very easy. Everything was excellently clean, modern and updated. The fitness center had tons of different exercise options. This hotel had access to skywalks that went all the way to the DeVos Place.

Google
Great downtown location with access to lots of food options. The bistro is a great place to get breakfast in the morning and serves Starbucks coffee. The pool and hot tub were clean and not very crowded. The workout room is sufficient. Friendly staff and didn't have any issues with my room or cleanliness

Google
Our arrival service was nice, the front desk concierge held our items for us while we navigated the atrocious parking situation with little to no directional guidance. Parking instructions and signs need improvement. The room was outdated. Horrible lighting, electrical plugs were hit or miss, nothing on the desk or near the TV worked, no USB or C charging ports. Despite having the air set at 50 for our entire stay hoping the room would get to a comfortable temperature, it never fell below 73. Our experience overall held up to 2-star hotel expectations. PS. Get ready to be catcalled by your shower. The high pitched whistle never stopped. (Also don’t trust your first flush, water pressure is an issue)

We live in the building that houses the Courtyard. Tonight we had James & Emma serving us. James has worked hard to earn our trust. He has listened & responded to what we need & is such an asset to the team there. What a great sense of humor, hard work & willingness to go beyond to meet our needs. Emma is newer to the team & immediately responded to the great camaraderie of the staff to the residents in the building. Great choice!

Google
I don't think this Courtyard lives up to the standards of similar Courtyards elsewhere. The TV was old and slow to respond. The bathroom felt ageing, with the showerhead malfunctioning. No complimentary breakfast for such a high room price. The staff was nice though, so I am sure they will improve the hotel.

Google
The service at this hotel was five star. The location is right across the street from the BOB. You can walk to the park, restaurants and many other points of interest in downtown GR. I received an upgrade upon check in. The Junior suite was spacious with a microwave and mini fridge. The bathroom lighting left much to be desired. It was dim and not conducive for makeup application before hitting the town. Parking is on site for a fee. Parking spots are tight so take a smaller vehicle if possible. My husband and I both used the pool and hot tub.

Yelp
Not what I expect for a centrally located at $300+ per night downtown Grand Rapids hotel. Despite information you may see on the website there is no room service, no valet parking, and the linens/bedding are no where near what I expect from a luxury hotel. Many things need to be updated in this hotel; Newer smart TVs (only offers Netflix, Pandora and YouTube for streaming, remotes are cheap impossible to use, needs USB ports, and, toilet paper is cheap and thin, better linens needed, and better upkeep of in-room refrigerators (defrost the iceberg occasionally) so the fridge cools like it's suppose to. Some great perks; the restaurant, otherwise known as the "Bistro" has amazing staff and great food. Limited menu makes it always hot, fresh and enjoyable and then there's a staff nothing can be beat with crew. Deja is their hidden gem. This young lady deserves a promotion and possibly a different position/career path or position where her sparkling attitude, professionalism and strengths can be utilized to make any business shine! The pool is gorgeous and clean. Ensure to contact the hotel directly to ensure amenities are open & functional. As Bonvoy website, app, & other sites may not be updated appropriately The Marriott Courtyard lobby is clean and inviting. The front desk "seems" to attempt their best to accommodate and provide excellent service. I did over hear the front desk young lady call me "crazy". But, I'm okay with that - after all, who isn't? We stayed in the executive king suite on the 7th floor, was spacious & clean. Gorgeous view to the west. Housekeeping did an excellent job - going above & beyond our requests of extra linens, pillows, blankets & setting up our roll-away I can not emphasize enough to confirm with phone calls to the front desk because the Bonvoy website/app is not always accurate of what amenities, parking, promotions, and packages actually include. All can be quite confusing to someone who has not visited this hotel. Previously been in the industry for 20+ years. I see this as an opportunity for them to nickel and dime you to death. The Bonvoy website & app allows you to select 2 adults & 2 children (17 & under) for a room - yet, selecting the breakfast "package" only includes 2 adults & 2 kids (12 & under) .... My number one choice will always be the JW Marriot for a downtown GR hotel! Location is great, price is the same, the service is always above and beyond, and you never have to doubt the quality of the linens lol @Kylene G - it's spelled Melisa , not Melissa ** also, watch pending vs actual charges for your final cost - upon checkin there was a $45 per night (odd amount) deposit required .... And takes forever to be released IF it ever does

Yelp
Overall, a good experience! The room was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable. I did really like how the hotel was located in an area downtown that made it conducive to walking around. It was sort of odd as we must have went on a day where nobody was around as wherever we went, there were few people walking around. No complaints and would be back!

Deanna D.

Yelp
Hotel was a good spot in downtown. Easy to get around the area central to most of the area. Rooms were nice bathrooms somewhat dated. Bistro inside was nice. Overall a nice centralized stay within Grand Rapids.

Yelp
We stayed here after a holiday party that was at the Courtyard Marriott. I have the Bonvoy app and checking in was a breeze and I love the keyless key - where your phone is the key. The room was on the 4th floor overlooking the parking ramp with a half view of the river. Since we are from GR, this didn't bother me, especially because we were not in the room except to sleep. Room is smaller than a normal hotel room but sufficient and nice, it was updated but still shows remnants of the old decor/ style. The bathroom is small, outdated and the shower is not well planned, you have to step into the shower to turn it on and you get blasted with cold water before you can move - multiple people said this that stayed there. However, the room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. We had no complaints for noise or the heat. Getting to our room was almost like going through a maze. The elevator was on the other side of the hotel from our room and we had to walk quite a ways to get there. Lobby is clean and bright, hotel has a bar / restaurant, parking on premise or next door, and close to everything downtown. I would recommend people to stay here, better price point than some of the more ritzy hotels.

John S.

Yelp
4.5 stars because there are no usb sockets in the room. Everything else was great! Location, access to Sky Walk, good restaurants within walking distance - overall great experience. Rooms were clean and it was relatively quiet compared to other hotels. Big screen tv. Firm comfortable bed! Blackout window curtains if you like the dark. This will be my hotel of choicecwhenever I am in Grand Rapids!

Nancy K.

Yelp
Boy is this place a let down and does not meet the standards I'm used to for a Marriott courtyard. The bathtub has paint peeling from it and there is mold around the caulking around the tub. The room is old and is in need of an update. We wish we had booked a different Marriott. We don't recommend this particular Marriott. Spend your money elsewhere.

Joe C.

Yelp
Room was clean and well appointed. The staff were excellent with their knowledge of local activities and very good at giving directions of the area.

Tina M D.

Yelp
We stayed for a girls weekend away and was in the perfect spot!! They are conveniently located by restaurants and lots of stores for shopping. Our bed was really comfortable and the staff was very helpful when we needed more towels. Some of us used the pool and hot tub which was really nice also. There is a restaurant within the hotel that you can get breakfast at in the morning which is pretty good also but you have to pay extra for it. This is a VERY pricey hotel but really nice.

Yelp
Not only was the stay and accommodations great, the location was even better. However, the reason I'm writing this review is particularly because of the service. I called in about a lost item that they had earlier told me they found and shipped to me, but I never received. The lady on the phone was the manager and I don't think I've received better service in my life. She was very proactive about calling me back and giving me updates on the search for my lost and found item. After they found and returned the item to me they left me with a free nights stay and a note of apology. In a day and age where quality service is so hard to come by this experience was particularly refreshing and I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
I love the Courtyard in Grand Rapids. I stayed here many nights earlier in life and you cannot beat the location. I am glad to see the place is even better than I remember it. It located is right downtown Grand Rapids and easy walking distance to anything the city has to offer. There is easy access to the Riverwalk and it is right near the concert venue. Parking is available from the valet or in the self serve lot (you need to drive around the corner to the underground lot). The hotel was renovated in the past 5 years or so and has a nice feel to it. The lobby is usually buzzing with guests and the bar/restaurant is located just inside. You can grab Starbucks, breakfast or other grab and go items here in the morning. They have a full bar and menu of food that looks pretty good too. The staff is all great from front desk to housekeeping and service crew. The rooms are decent for a Courtyard. I enjoy the views from the taller floors, but the highest floors are the condos so you can only go up to 16 or so. The linens are in decent shape and the technology is up to date. I usually have a good night sleep here and don't hear other guests. The only downside is I rarely get upgraded here as a Platinum. There has to be some suites or something available one of the times I came! I highly recommend staying here if you come to Grand Rapids and are looking for a great hotel.

Kris K.

Yelp
Friendly staff, very clean, convenient parking ($24 overnight, but worth it). Construction in the area right now is a nuisance and a menace, but navigable, basically. Our breakfast in the Bistro was much better than expected and served with a friendly smile. We'd stay here again anytime. Nothing at all to complain about. Staff seemed very well trained and hospitable.

Yelp
No complaints from my one night stay here at the Courtyard! The location is top notch (with plenty of Grand Rapids eateries, breweries, museums, shopping and more within walking distance) and in general it's clean and convenient. I stayed in a double room and the beds were comfy, the room tidy. The room itself and the decor was not tremendously noteworthy but it was spacious and had a huge bathroom which ruled. Not a ton by way of amenities in the room (complimentary water bottle, bath robe, etc) but for one night it was fine. I ended up ordering room service later in the evening as I got peckish and my burger was pretty good and the fries nice and crispy. AND it showed up at my door in just 15 minutes as promised. The price point was also definitely good for room service. Not bad! I also made my way to the hot tub/pool for a bit and it was in good condition. I was the only one in their about an hour before they closed for the night so I got to relax all on my own. I just wish the hot tub was a bit more jet filled/powerful (my back was killing me so a nice jet positioned closer to my shoulders would have ruled) but that's very nit picky. There's also a small gym attached with a few exercise bikes and such should the mood to work on your fitness strike. They were repainting the ladies' locker room when I was there so I couldn't really get a good feel for it but I think there is also a sauna in there which I would take advantage of next time should it remain post renovations. Staff was also very friendly Admittedly I've been a little spoiled by staying at its big brother the JW Marriott just next door in the past but that swanky spot is definitely a higher price point which isn't always feasible. Especially if you're only in for one night. For location and affordability the Courtyard is a fine option.

Yelp
This is our go-to hotel when we want to have a get away weekend in Grand Rapids. It is centrally located to just about everything downtown. It's connected to the skywalk so easy access to both the VanAndel and DeVos halls. Valet parking is also available. Every time we have stayed here, the hotel service and our room has been A+++. It can't get any better than this.

Rod W.

Yelp
The good the bad and the ugly . When my wife and I travel we try to find a Marriott . We are Bonvoy members and enjoy the benefits. I came here for a work conference and was hoping for a true Marriott experience. First there is a charge for parking. I was not aware that this was an additional charge of $24 per day. I was able to stay parked until the conference was over without being charged for a third day. The rooms are desperately needing updating . There was no lights in the ceiling and no vent in the bathroom for the shower. Although my room had a small fridge it was difficult to work and when I thought I finally figured it out, it leaked. I was there two days and the staff did not give me fresh towels or make the bed for day 2. Also they did not give out more coffee for the Room coffee maker . The pillows were all soft. There were no pillows with any firmness. The pool was clean, the hot tub was nice. The workout room was small. The towels were very small and very well worn . This hotel is well located and there is plenty of choices nearby for food or entertainment. The price was decent considering the large city and the time of year. Not saying I won't be back it was just far from what I was expecting of a Marriott.

Yelp
Stayed one night here this past week. I usually find that Courtyard properties - provide for the most part - a consistently clean and pleasant hotel stay. And while this Courtyard was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and accommodating - my stay was less than restful. My room was on the 7th floor - facing the street. Across the street from the Courtyard is some sort of Bar which I believe is called "The Bob." There was a constant stream of loud, obnoxious people coming out of this Four Story Bar - complete with bouts of yelling, shrieking, and general mayhem - from about 11:00 pm - 2:30 am in the morning. This made it all but impossible to fall asleep. Combine that - with the fact that my room was close to the elevator lobby in the hotel, every time someone got on the damn elevators, I could hear the elevator winding away. I think I might have managed to get three hours sleep that night. I found out afterward that allegedly, the noise was from legions of college kids off from Spring Break as of that day, celebrating their temporary freedom. Ugh - had I known, I would have stayed elsewhere. Pros: - Clean rooms - Flat panel HD TVs - Comfortable, firm beds and firm pillows (not that it mattered much as sleep was hard to come by!) - Free internet access Cons - The Bob - Elevator noise

Yelp
Stayed here recently and had a great stay. Staff very friendly, hotel clean and comfortable. Lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. They have a free bus ( called DASH) that takes you to various downtown areas. The Bistro bar is nice and convenient and food also was good.

Sarah H.

Yelp
We stayed one night with Marriott and were happy with our stay! The location is great, you are so close to all of the things going on downtown. We had a Griffins game at the Van Andel Arena and it was an easy walk from the hotel, even in the winter. Room was clean and quiet, mattress was comfy which is my biggest concern. Check in time was busy but the staff was working their way through the line as quickly as possible. There is a pool if you like one of those for your stay!

Daniel H.

Yelp
This Marriott had a nice lobby and even a big touchscreen TV in the lobby to check weather, scores, and even restaurants nearby. I was here on a business trip so I got used to seeing the lobby. The staff here were friendly as far as I could tell. There was a Starbucks in The Bistro downstairs. Unfortunately, this Marriott didn't have complementary breakfast which was fine with me but would have been nice. The room I stayed in was on the sixth floor. It was spacious and definitely suited my needs. There was even a place on the war near the TV where you could connect your laptop of you had the right cables. I couldn't try to see if it was connected with the TV but I would assume so. The room also had a small couch, too. There was also free wifi in the room, lobby, and The Bistro. Pretty good Marriott in my opinion. I'd recommend it.

Zoey R.

Yelp
I am surprised this hotel has so many great reviews! When we were checking in, we were asked if we would like to park our car for $24. I asked if that was the standard rate in the area and she said yes. When we exited the hotel, there were two parking lots on the same block, one that was $10 and one that was $12 (we didn't pay attention to parking costs when we were driving in). When we went up to our room, it stunk like mildew. I went to the front desk and asked if they could do anything about it and they said they could spray the room, but they couldn't move us to another room because they were sold out. The desk/tv stand had chunks of the wood missing and the room was dirty. To top it off, the towels were the roughest towels I have ever used at any hotel. The only reason it is getting two stars is because of the location. I would not recommend staying here!

Charles W.

Yelp
Pros: location Cons: price This hotel has an excellent location and you pay for it. You are within easy walking distance to all the downtown attractions like the arena, founders, hop cat, etc etc. The rooms are of the quality you've come to expect at a courtyard marriot. A modern grey color scheme. Marriot definitely has great standards for cleanliness and staff. Ive found the staff here to be friendly and helpful. Love hitting the fruit flavored water after a night of partying in GR. In closing, you are paying for location and parking here. Its just priced too high for the quality of room. Id save some money and pick a hotel thats of similar quality and slightly further across the river.

Brian S.

Yelp
I decided to stay at this location due to its proximity to where I had to work all week. The hotel is very nice with a giant lobby. Checking in was easy and the staff was very friendly. I was put on the top floor overlooking the park/river. The room was nice and large. The hotel was very clean and everyone was abiding by Covid protocols. The hotel restrictions/bar was open with limited complicity. Lots of delicious food options as well as beer and liquor options. The location of the hotel is amazing. You are literally in the heart of the city with so many things to do. I took a walk every night and really enjoyed the people and city while out. The only reason I didn't give this location 5-5 starts is because parking is kind of a bummer. You park in the garage around back, then have to ride an elevator up one floor, walk around the building into the hotel then up another elevator to get to your room. It really bummed me out at first but I grew use to it. I will definitely stay here again next time I am I town. Lovely city and hotel.

Yelp
WARNING FOR BUSINESS TRAVELERS! This has been my worst experience at a Courtyard by Marriott for a Premier Executive Member (which means I stay at their brand 75 nights or more per year). I informed them via their automated check-in system I would be arriving at 11:00 AM, which had never been a problem for a PE Member before at other Courtyard properties that it would take 3 HOURS to have a room ready....I asked to speak to a manager and on a Sunday and after sold out night, there wasn't one working in a hotel with over 300 rooms (this is the largest Courtyard I have visited). I then asked for a Manger to call me and explain why it takes 3 hours to prepare my room......NEVER got a call to explain why they were not prepared for my arrival or apologize for the inconvenience. At about 3:00 AM I had called down to the front desk and asked if someone could bring up 3 bottles of water (not for someone to open up the kitchen and cook me a burger, just water)......wait for the answers......"We don't do that!".....and where did I find the front desk clerk after getting dressed and taking a 7 floor elevator ride....in the back office....doing what I have no idea....solving guest problems for PEs can't be one of them....she did make sure get my room number to overcharge me for water.... and run back to hide in the office. Since now I am wide awake, I decided to post this review on Yelp, Google, Trip Advisor, and the Marriott PE Customer Service. I will update this review with any follow up from this hotel or the corporate office.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Our room smelled like mildew. I was more irritated, however, that the receptionist straight-up lied about the street parking situation. She stated that the only meters available were on the middle of a bridge, a good distance away, and that we'd have to wake up at the crack of dawn to go out and make a payment at 6am. Does she get commission for the $20 hotel parking fee? If not, I can't imagine why she'd lie about such a thing. Perhaps she just plain didn't like us. In reality, street meters are plentiful, with several less than a block away. Paid parking doesn't begin until 8am, and you can actually pay for the next morning's parking using an app on your phone before heading to bed.

Kristin A.

Yelp
I just want to commend a staff member working at this hotel who went above and beyond for me this last weekend. I'll start by saying that I was at this hotel this past weekend for a wedding. We stayed in a standard room and used the fitness center, enjoyed Starbucks in the lobby, and spa during our stay. The only down side was that the pool was in maintenance while we were there- bummer. Leaving in a rush to catch our flight back home, I left behind a necklace that is very important to me. PAIGE, who I believe works at the front desk, was very accommodating over the phone. I asked for a manager to go back to check the room we stayed in, to which she responded that there was no manager in at the time. I then asked if she was able to check for me personally. Without hesitation, she went up to our room and retrieved my necklace for me. She came back from putting me on hold and offered to ship it out to my address in California. It arrived at my house 3 days after we spoke on the phone! I was very pleased by how Paige handled my panic on the phone and offered to ship me my very sentimental piece of jewelry. I feel like this situation could have easily been delayed by saying that I'd have to wait for management to be in or that I'd have to wait for house keeping to clean it. I appreciated how Paige personally went out of her way to provide peace of mind over the phone. Thank you for going above and beyond! Awesome customer care and service!

Jenn S.

Yelp
Stayed here 5/14-5/15 for a brief business trip. 1. This Courtyard by Marriott is nicer than half the Marriotts I've stayed at in other parts of the country. 2. I was pleasantly surprised by my spacious and quiet room. Comfortable bed, decent shower. No complaints! 3. ABOVE & BEYOND CUSTOMER SERVICE solely due to my being a ding-dong: I was sitting in the airport 6hrs after checking out when it hit me that my iPad, which I had been using in bed the night before, never emerged from under the covers and thus, never made it into my luggage. After immediately calling the hotel in a panic, Sabrina and Austin at the front desk were not only able to locate my iPad with Housekeeping, but took the extra steps to coordinate, pack, and drop off an overnight FedEx shipment to make sure my iPad got returned to me quickly and safely, all within the span of about half an hour. It was waiting for me at my office this morning. I'm sure I'm not the only guest in history to forget something of high value in a room and have the front desk ship it out, but for it being my first time having to deal with this type of unfortunate situation, the staff at this Courtyard by Marriott set the bar really high in terms of reactive problem-solving! I really appreciate it and look forward to staying here again in the future.

Jamie F.

Yelp
The hotel is so clean! The staff is very helpful and super friendly. Was in town for my daughter's gymnastics meet. Will definitely stay here again next year. We parked and never had a need to drive anywhere. Clean pool. Yummy bistro breakfast, Starbucks and hotel pizza delivered to our room.

Michael R.

Yelp
Good hotel in a great location in downtown Grand Rapids. Rooms are comfortable-bathrooms are small and rather standard. Nice lobby, amenities and the on site restaurant/bar is convenient but just adequate in terms of choices on the dinner menu and bar (in Brewery Town USA, expected more options). I've been spoiled in previous stays at the luxury hotel owned by the same parent company that I won't name that is just to the north, but for $120 less per night, it's a decent value. No service issues of note and I'd stay there again if the price remains right in comparison to nearby alternatives.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Love love love the location! Room is perfect for reading and relaxing. Props to Marriott for having a Bluetooth capable TV that I could stream my music to while I got ready for a night out. Love how modern. Parking for valet is $25 which is to be expected in a downtown. But I love this property and will stay again.

Joe B.

Yelp
I'm enamored with this place. It may not be everything I'd want in a hotel but it seems to be everything we needed. Location, location, location! It's just down the hill from a ton of great restaurants, breweries and museums. It's around the corner from VanAndel and literally across the street from the B.O.B. If you want a decent hotel that's not crazy expensive but in the heart of the action this is a good spot to be. The room: not amazing but cozy and comfortable. The water pressure was nice! The bed was a little too firm but overall I liked our room. It could've been bigger and a little more modern but it was nice. The front desk was very friendly and easy to deal with. Parking is mostly a cinch if you're self-parking. And they have a Starbucks in the lobby if you need a pick me up without trying to track down coffee options. I will definitely be back and likely sooner than later. This was a little gem.

Jill H.

Yelp
I couldn't agree more with Jeff H.'s review. If I didn't use Marriott points to stay here I would be disappointed with the quality for money. The 4 star worthy aspect of this hotel is the LOCATION. The location in proximity to Founders, Van Andel and other great bars is spectacular. You can walk pretty much anywhere in this area, the streets seem really safe at night although you wouldn't think so as there are a number of homeless people outside of certain areas during the day time.

Matt W.

Yelp
The downtown Courtyard in Grand Rapids is a near perfect place to stay when in the area. I have now stayed at this location twice (once in a King suite and more recently on a double Queen room) and both times were outstanding. From the moment I checked in with the friendly and informative clerk throughout the next day's checkout, the stay was comfortable and convenient. The hotel shares a top notch pool and workout center with the high rise condos attached to the building and also has an easy in/out underground parking garage for those who prefer not to valet. The rooms themselves are modern, spacious, and very clean. Furthermore, the property is located in the heart of the city which allows so many options for drinks and dining. Grand Rapids in Beer City, USA, after all. I would certainly stay here again and would suggest this Courtyard to anyone traveling to the area.

Kym J.

Yelp
The newly renovated Courtyard is beautiful! I really didn't miss staying at the JW. Great view, close to the nightlife. Really enjoyed the pizza and margaritas in the bar. Room is very comfortable. Valet promised my car in under 3 minutes and delivered. Great stay!

Esther N.

Yelp
Had an excellent stay! The room was super comfortable! It was directly across the street from The BOB and 20 Monroe Live, so it was incredibly convenient and walking distance from fun stuff! The staff was excellent! Room was decorated beautifully and there was an Art Prize color photo book in the room to peruse. There was a coffee maker in the room with great coffee! And they also serve Starbucks on the premises!

Yelp
My day was hellish. I had literally been on the road/in the air/on stage for 20 hours. My cell phone was stolen In O'hare, so upon arrival in Lansing, I had to buy a new one then drive to Brighton, perform, then drive to Grand Rapids. Needless to say, I was exhausted when I got to the hotel and in dire need of rest. Between the excellent customer service, the relaxing accommodations, a dip in the hotel pool and a workout in their well equipped gym, I was able to recharge my batteries and deliver an excellent performance that night in Muskegon. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
(Originally posted from 12/9/08 under the wrong hotel.) This is actually called the Marriott Downtown now. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. The restaurant and bar have recently been updated and the bar is Frank Lloyd Wright-ish (my favorite). The breakfast offers a buffet, waffles and eggs to order. The room was clean and roomy. I had a king size bed, a little seating area and a flat screen TV with digital cable -- YEA!!! Good water pressure too -- much appreciated. Close to many, many things bars and restaurants and connected by a sky walk to many of the area attractions (very nice when it is 3 degrees outside).

Yelp
Generally speaking I don't gush over hotels. Last year I stayed at over 137 Marriotts. This is the first one I have ever felt truly compelled to write a review of. First, the desk service was the most genuinely friendly I have come across in a long time. It was unique to see an entire desk staff that interacted together with clients. There were numerous people checking in, but I had exchanges with all members of the team as they did hand offs to answer various questions I had about the hotel and the general area. They did this seamlessly without detracting from whatever task they were working on, whether that meant working with another guest or filing pears, or activating room keys. The valet was beyond friendly and was able to provide a great deal of information in respect to restaurants in the vicinity. Oddly enough numerous staff members consistently remembered my name during my stay. It was nice to be greeted by members of the hotel staff by my name. The restaurant staff was also equally friendly and helpful. I am so used to people going through the motions in the hospitality business, however this is not the case with this staff. My room was unbelievably immaculate and well kept during my stay. The hotel is located in a convenient location. I would recommend this hotel to any of my colleagues, and plan to stay here consistently when I am in the area.

Yelp
Great hotel in a fantastic location! Rooms updated - great decor and spacious layout. We are a family of five and it worked great for us! Walk across the street to the Bob, head down the street to founders, aveda or a number of other notable spots! Great location and atmosphere! Very helpful staff and great local beer for sale in marketplace in lobby! Also a fridge in every room! We'll be back!

Yelp
GREAT location, walking distance to Van Andel, hop cat, GRBC and a host of other great bars/restaurants. Updated courtyard, big room, big bathroom. In need of some TLC, yes. Recommend? Yes. A few minor faults but nothing to keep us from returning.

Yelp
This is about one of the friendliest and nicest hotels I have to go to in the mid west. They have an excellent workout room and a huge lap pool...with speakers inside the pool...that play classic rock..the Doors under water are CRAZY...anyhow...they have steam rooms in the locker room, and the beds are about as comfortable as you will find in the industry. I stay at a lot of hotels, and this one is at the top of the list!

Yelp
This was a very nice hotel- the rooms, service, pool and restaurant were all good. Little things give this 5 stars: I lost my adapter for charging my phone and the guy at the front desk let me borrow one. The woman at the desk the next day was very patient with me when showing me where the irritating overflow parking is, and the valet who looks like Ashton Kutcher was very friendly to us. BIG thing: I left a piece of luggage there and they had it Fedexed to my home!!!!! Honesty and service!!

Yelp
I've spent A LOT of time in hotels, and majority of that time in last five years has been in Marriott properties. I'm a Platinum Elite rewards member if that you gives you an idea. This property is very well managed. EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE STAFF, from the valet, to the front desk, to the bar to the housekeepers were courteous, professional, friendly and smiled all the time. Not in a creepy Stepford way, but they seemed like genuinely nice people. Kasmin in the Bistro at night is now my favorite Courtyard Bistro bartender (sorry Mike at Denver Airport Courtyard), she runs a tight ship, gets the food out while it's hot, and never lets your glass go empty. She's also a great resource on sites to see while in Grand Rapids. The morning crew greets you with a smile, makes your Starbucks just right, and your food is out in a hurry. The room I had was spotless. Housekeeping even managed to get in while I was out for only a couple hours one afternoon. Not sure if or when I'll get to Grand Rapids again but this Courtyard would be my first choice of hotels.

Yelp
This is a good but not great hotel. The location is fantastic if you happen to be in town for a concert at Van Andel or a downtown pub crawl (ne Founders and HopCat). The skywalk that runs direct from the hotel to Van Andel or Devos Hall is a huge plus. The indoor pool was decent at best, the parking structure decrepit, and the hotel innards "kind of mostly clean". But for the price, the amenities and service here are really just alright (even considering the fact this is a downtown location in a major city... and by major city I mean major sort of). I would definitely pony up the cash to stay here again for the above-stated reasons, and I did not feel like taking a cab let alone driving a few miles to stay somewhere cheaper. But if you're looking for luxury you'd best be ready to drop another $100/night or so and stay somewhere else.

Yelp
The hotel is fairly nice. The room we got was a one bed with a pullout couch. It was small and not the best for a family of four. The lobby was otherwise nice and easy to access and navigate. I had a Thule car carrier for my Explorer that didn't fit into the garage. I had to valet it every time. (Not convenient). It's a pretty good place to stay if you don't have a lot of stuff and you get a bigger room. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel a couple of times when visiting downtown Grand Rapids. It's a great choice for an affordable alternate to the JW Marriott to which it is connected to via skywalk. The hotel is clean and has the amenities of a typical Courtyard. There is a daily parking fee of $16. There are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. The B.O.B is across the street and a hot dog cart can be found when the club closes and you want a greasy hot dog fix. This Courtyard will continue to be my top pick for downtown GR.

Yelp
For downtown Grand Rapids where there isn't much - this is probably the best option. Very nice accommodations, location, lobby, dining options, etc. I'll be back!

Yelp
The good... The lobby and common areas are really nice. Everything is clean and seems very well-kept. The location to downtown Grand Rapids really can't be beat. You're across the street from the heart of the action in Grand Rapids. The bad... For the price, the room seemed dated. The colors and design seemed old to me, and while things were clean, they didn't seem to be in great shape. The air conditioning / heat unit was very noisy, as was the shower which squealed. Parking is expensive, but sort of expected for a location like this. I think for the price they could work on the bad parts a bit.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place. From the staff, to the built-in Starbucks (staff their as well)...to the clean & comfy room, to the location. If you're in GR, this is the go-to place. They exceeded my expectations and hope to stay their again soon.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel 10/28/11 and 10/29/11 and were very happy with it. In fact, we had made reservations at another hotel but once we arrived in Grand Rapids we decided it was too far from where we wanted to be in the downtown area. On the fly, we checked for availibility and got lucky that we could get our room at the last minute. Our rate was $149 each night which isn't horrible given its location and zero advance notice. Should we revisit GR, which is likely, we'd seriously consider staying here again. PROS: -Great location in downtown GR: right across the street from The BOB, a block from the Van Andel Arena and 3 or 4 blocks from HopCat (a super cool bar focusing on microbrews), etc -Neat, clean room -Comfortable beds and pillows -Modern, comfortable room furniture -HDTV (though the remote did not work well) -Friendly desk attendants -Good workout room -Nice view overlooking downtown Grand Rapids CONS: -$11 per day parking seems a bit high -WiFi not free

Yelp
EXCELLENT SERVICE by everyone I was in contact with. Great location. Nicely renovated. Extremely comfy beds and pillows. I was impressed and will stay here again. Don't hesitate to book this hotel.
