"Beefy smashburgers, smoothies, and shakes are the name of the game at Cousin’s Burger in Brewerytown (or on South Street). The burgers come in single, double, and triple versions (you’ll need at least the double if you want to be satisfied), as well as a spicy option that ups the ante with peppery house sauce and jalapeños. They’re all straightforward, juicy, and work in a pinch when you’re ravenous and need a quick meal. The corner halal spot has ample seating for sipping on a creamy chocolate and peanut butter shake and staring at a Sixers mural between bites of the best burger you’ve had in weeks. video credit: CANDIS R. The smash burger was super good, would 100% get again! The fries were pretty overdone, which was disappointing but they were busy so maybe that was it! We got the chicken tenders too, they were huge like two fried chicken breasts - one piece was super good and perfectly cooked and the other was a little tough. Overall experience was good and next time we will just go with two double smash burgers and skip the other stuff!

Google
My journey to finding the best smash burger in Philly led me to Cousin’s Burger! I got the single patty and it was really good. It came with American cheese, pickles, house made sauce and caramelized onions. It’s a classic smash burger. I did wish there were more toppings, only my last few bites had caramelized onions and sauce (those were heavenly bites!). Special shout out to the fries. So crispy, even though I got takeout and they sat in a bag for 15 minutes. I do think the $17 price tag is a bit steep for a single patty and small portion of fries. The inside also did not seem inviting to sit down and eat, definitely a take out place. Overall, I’ve had better smash burgers in Philly but this one is good. I’d come back if I was in the area!

Ok so I’ve been twice the first time I went I wasn’t too sure if I liked the double smash burger so I went back and I can say I now know why! This time I got the double heat smash burger. The smash patty itself was very bland, no seasoning not even salt and pepper, the house sauce which goes on the burger isn’t spread nor sweet enough you can hardly taste the relish, and the heat sauce was mid it literally had no flavor just spice. The fries and the milkshake are pretty good tho as well as the customer service!

Google
Best smash burger I’ve had in Philly. I’d recommend the spicy version, not too hot and right amount of flavor. Not too many halal smash burgers unfortunately, this one hits the spot.

Google
Amazing dinner. We went to this place very late in the evening and still got served. The kitchen was overwhelmed under orders so we had to wait almost an hour, yet the waiter was very kind with us. Waiting that long is sometimes necessary if you want to taste one of the best burger of Phillie. The waiter offered us two delicious milkshakes for our patience. We recommend this place without a doubt.

Google
A new halal smashburger spot in Philly and I had to come down to visit this spot! The burgers here were alright, but I wish the patties had more seasoning in them. We also got the loaded beef fries, which were not bad, but the beef had too much salt in it and we ended up barely touching it because it was too overpowering for us. However, the fries + sauce they added were really good. Overall, the staff was very friendly and the food was given in a timely manner as well, I give them a 4/5⭐️

Google

Yelp
I went to cousins burgers when they first opened on poplar. Food is delicious, seasoned & cooked properly. And I like the fact everything is halal. The service is great and the atmosphere is very comfy. I'll def be back for the 2nd time!!!

Yelp
Second time grabbing food here and went with a Double Smash Burger this time. The space inside looks comfortable, and there's tons of seating around. I just happen to be within 5 minutes of the restaurant, so I got takeout. The photo is a little deceiving because there's much more under the bun than just 2 huge patties and cheese (and very nice job increasing the size of the burgers). There's a sauce similar to the Big Mac sauce, so sort of like Thousand Island dressing, as well as grilled onions. Ketchup still pairs perfectly with it, but this is no boring burger. Highly recommend. For $20 for the burger and fries, a very compelling offer. Value: 4/5 Quality: 4/5 Quantity: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Service: 5/5

Yelp
This place was not good. I got a double cheeseburger and a side of fries. It was $19.50 for this... that's way too expensive. I could kind of understand this price if the food was good, but the burger had absolutely no seasoning or flavor at all, was really bland and tasteless. The side of fries was old and dry, it felt like they were made 3 days ago, had been sitting around, and were reheated when my order was packed up. Fries were hard, chewy, and cold. I tried to drown the fries in a pool of ketchup to save the meal, but it didn't work. This is one of the worst burger meals I've ever had. A double cheeseburger from any fast food spot would've been a better choice for my meal.

Yelp
I've been coming to cousins burger for some time and consistency has been the theme so far. I normally go for the chicken burger or smash burger. This time I went for the smash burger and my friends got the chicken variants. As usual both choices were on point. Food came out hot and fresh. The sauces are great additions when trying any options here. Overall, ambiance and customer service are great. Always a guaranteed satisfied meal when coming here.

Yelp
One of the best spicy chicken sandwiches I've had! Friendly staff and freshly prepared. The French fries were delicious as well! I'll be back here for sure

Yelp
The best burger in Philly and I haven't shut up about it for the past 2 weeks. You can tell it's made with love. The burger is actually SEASONED, the ingredients are fresh, and I got mine with beef bacon which is amazing because this place halal and I actually get to have bacon with my burger as a Muslim. I'm very excited that cousins burger is now in my neighborhood.

Yelp
they food is amazing and you should come check them out. the people here is nice. timeing is great the place looks pretty

Jon L.

Yelp
Probably the worst burger i ever had. Tasted like a terrible smushed meatball. It look nothing like the photos which looked amazing.

Emmie H.

Yelp
This was an OK stop. I think the thing that I was most off-put by was how greasy the bottom bun on my burger was. I had to take it off because it was soaked. I loved the cook on the burger but the fries were pretty underwhelming too. I probably wouldn't come back here but I've definitely had worse burgers.

Yelp
to start we waited an hour to get an 8pc wing, a double smash burger, loaded fries, and fries. the cashier was looking at us like where the food at and it was sitting out the whole time. when we grabbed the food she said it was only sitting there for 30 seconds which it wasn't and she was very argumentative. When we left the restaurant we opened the food and were missing our fries and had no forks or napkins in the bag, so we had to turn all the way around and come back to get it. when I went back into the store to grab the food that we were missing the cashier ignored me and told the chef in the back to deal with me instead of correcting her mistake, also the chicken wings were very tiny. this meal was not worth 36 dollars And i feel like i wasted my time.

Esmahan A.

Yelp
I came here for the opening and the burger honestly is so good. It was a bit smaller than a usual burger, but I definitely savored every bite. The fries were OK. The milkshakes could've been a bit thicker, but then again, I went on opening day and you know what they're just going to improve. It is in a really cute neighborhood and the staff is friendly and the place is clean.

Yelp
First time trying out this place with my husband and we both were beyond satisfied- the classic and spicy smash burgers were amazing! The buns were so soft and the meat/cheese/pickle combo w/ house sauce made every bite perfect. 10/10 recommend! Also the fries were crispy- perfect potato to crispy skin ratio. Waitress was super attentive and kind. Design is great

Yelp
Today I wanted a burger for lunch. I saw this place on IG. The Ambiance was nice and the Customer service was great. However, the burger that was suppose to be spicy was bland but cooked well. But the fries were hard and dry. Please note Those fries were definitely not fresh out the cooking oil. Also not worth the hefty price of 17.26. Learned my lesson today. I do give credit where it's due!!

Yelp
This made me forget how to open bottles it made my boy forget that you shouldn't dive in the trash for sauce and it made my other friend forget how to speak. He was stuttering like crazy and he started growling. Also, somebody bit somebody else's finger for a french fry so 10 out of 10.

Isaah C.

Yelp
Food was truly so good. They were running the whole shop on a two person team, still did their best to attend to every customer as much as possible. The burger had the perfect flavor, and all the local shops they support added to the experience

Isaiah C.

Yelp
Burgers, fries, milkshakes and everything are AMAZING. Dining area is super clean as well! Don't hesitate to try this place out!

Christina B.

Yelp
The burger was delish, especially the roll, the food was served pretty quickly. It's a nice, really small, tiny, neighborhood spot with a few high tables and stools, I'm a seasoned Senior so I don't do well with climbing on stools. The owner, Shah, is friendly and I wish him well.

Adrienne S.

Yelp
Well ..,maybe we came on the wrong day... but I for one won't be taking a chance on a return visit.., To their credit the owner was very cordial a the place was clean and located in a great locale. But burger was the totally disgusting.., Smashed it was, to the point that there was nothing to bite into.., it was hard and completely tasteless.,, imagine ground beef grilled to the point of a hard disc with a bush of what looked like thousand islands dressing and raw onions... ewe! and the fries were cold as ice chewy and tasteless.., on top of all this .. it cost $32.., A total rip off... Even if it were half way good., $32 is ridiculous for two single burgers, one order of fries and 2 drinks... crazy! Did i mention that we waited more than a half hour for that garbage! Dont waste your money or time

Yelp
Second time getting a burger from here in 3 days. That's how well they do their smash burgers. The heat burger is perfectly seasoned and the fried onions and jalapeño add the needed texture. It's a must try.

Almas B.

Yelp
This was our 2nd trip to Cousin's and it did not disappoint! This time we tried the spicy smash burgers, loaded fries and milkshake. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious! This place is worth making a trip from the suburbs.

Raqeeb J.

Yelp
This place does one thing and it does it perfectly- smash burgers. The meat is fresh and high quality, the cheese is Cooper and nice and creamy. The owners are incredibly hospitable and the fries are delicious. My wife and I will be coming here again and again. Their chicken fingers are really good too and all white breast meat. I got the triple cheeseburger and it was the perfect ratio of meat to bun. I wouldn't change anything about this place and I expect to see them do very well in the Philly burger scene. For all those who keep halal, this place is 100% halal.

Anthony L.

Yelp
I was very excited to try Cousins Burger and I was highly disappointed. Customer service was horrible. No one checked to see if I had gotten my food or gave me any kind of update. Didn't get a receipt with a number on it just in case they called my name or anything. The owner checked on everyone else besides my friend and I. We only ordered 2 double smash burgers and an order of fries. They truly need to do better, the vibe of the restaurant is very bland. You don't feel welcomed.

Nicole W.

Yelp
My boyfriend & I just tried this small place down the street from us, the food & service was amazing! They have smashburgers with thin patties and they're cooked perfectly. Great selection of non alcoholic drinks as well. They have indoor & outdoor seating for nice days! The owner is great & you can tell he's passionate about his place. This is a must try for a local neighborhood spot!!

Cc F.

Yelp
Best Halal burger in Philly! Great friendly service. Awesome atmosphere! I have to try the triple burger next time I go.

Tee H.

Yelp
This place serves the perfect smash burger. Perfectly smashed and juicy. Topped off with cooper sharp cheese, caramelized onions, and house made sauce on a potato bun. Doesn't get better than that. The best part is the meat is local and Halal. This is my go to spot for smash burgers. Straight up 10/10. Look no further.

Taha O.

Yelp
The service is amazing the burger is really good. the spicy one especially. All in all great food and is halal certified

Mohyeed K.

Yelp
Best smash burger I've had. Double heat is my go to. I love the fact that the source from local businesses. Have already been multiple times and plan on continuing to come back.

David K.

Yelp
Got the spicy burger and it was great. Service was very good and restaurant was cozy. Will definitely be going again soon

Bilal K.

Yelp
Amazing burger and fries. High quality ingredients and the milk shakes look very good (need to try).
