Sonoma and Napa Private Wine Tasting Experiences

"Situated on the outskirts of downtown Napa in Coombsville, I found the drive to Covert Estate scenic and pleasantly off the beaten path; upon entering the tasting room at the cave entrance you’re handed a glass of Azur rosé and will likely notice the striking twisted-silver-and-gold-metal chandelier. Covert was founded by three families, including French winemaker Julien Fayard (who worked at Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte), and guests enjoy a formal seated tasting of Covert's Cabernet Sauvignon wines; ask about the library tasting and chances to sample wines from the barrel." - Jonathan Cristaldi

It’s off the main thruways and so worth the a visit. It’s a beautiful place, lovely wines and dedicated to the terroir. Loved the Black Label cab. Ask for thier own brand potato chips. Thanks so much to Doug and Emily for hosting us.

Google
The only vineyard that made everything totally private and intimate. By far our most special tasting — not to mention, the grounds and inside are beautiful, and the wine is incredible (albeit on the more expensive side, though understandably)

Came here for a private marketing event and the venue and wine were both great.

Beautiful winery and grounds. Very intimate and unique . Only place where we. Had the opportunity to meet the owners and feel their passion to the art of wine making . Elise did our tasting she was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and great personality. She raised the whole experience a couple of notches. This is also the only winery where we got to see the behind the scenes of making the wine. Highly recommend

Google
Just goes to show the value of a great host! We were met in the parking lot by Elise with a nice palate refresher. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, by design. Elise couldn't have been less imposing. Felt like a bottle of wine shared among friends!

An incredible and intimate experience. Wonderful wines in a gorgeous tasting room/wine cave drilled into the side of an out of the way hill in Coombsville. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Among the better tastings. We did the Nicolson Jones Tasting. Also very comfortable. A light plate was also served. No parking lot. You have to park in front of the residence.

Yelp
Wines were delicious and property beautiful... sadly, we were seated in a living room type situation, and our service didn't explain the wines in any detail - other than what we knew we liked... we bought several bottles as we felt we should. We didn't tour the caves or the property- mediocre experience at best.

Yelp
Covert estate is one of my favorite wineries in Northern California. They do by appointment wine tastings only, so make sure you schedule in advance. They just opened up their wine cave/new tasting room and it is stunning. The wine maker, Julian, is French and brings a really unique and amazing European perspective to California wines. My absolute favorite is the Rose they make, but I'm also a big fan of a lot of their reds (especially their 2010 Cuvee). Highly recommend checking them out!

Yelp
We had a private wine tasting tour here last month. We got to see the vineyards, the caves, and then did the tasting in the wine room. The wine room has a cool, hip living room feeling, not your traditional tasting room. We tasted some Rose and some delicious reds. It was a great start to our wine tasting day.

Yelp
It seems most exceedingly odd that my previous review of Covert/Azur/Nichlelson Jones wineries is gone. This young upstart of winery should have many of its competitors shaking in their boots or at the very least green with envy. The quality of the wines cannot be overstated: They are that good. And while there are other new wineries on the scene, this one is worth you time, attention, and patronage. Be forewarned: These are not cheap wines! Before you go on a tare about another expensive wine among many in a region overcrowded with wineries I beg you to give pause. There is a reason these wines taste so good: They are made with artisan craftsmanship evoking not only the terroir but the quality of good fruit and the attention to detail given by a master of wine craft. The wines sing: Not literally but in your mouth, on your palate and long after you swallow! There is a reason Coombsville is a rising AVA...Covert estates has made a significant contribution to this reputation. Mind you, it doesn't hurt having good staff and a good tasting room too! Unlike many wineries, the experience you have at Covert is personal. Rebekah Allen, one of the people who lead the tastings is professional, courteous, and generous. The tastings, whether they occur in the new tasting room or up in the house, either place is beautiful, well appointed, and whose ambiance only adds not subtracts from the wine drinking experience. In short, consider this a must stop.
