Cow - Review - Saint-Germain-des-Prés - Paris - The Infatuation

"If you thought the French forbade foreign cheeses from crossing the border, think again. At COW, “Cheeses of the World” are center-stage. The well-lit, welcoming shop is stocked with Welsh Hafod, Swedish Almnäs Tegel, American Alpha Tolman, and more. You may even encounter a yak’s milk cheddar hailing from the Himalayas. They join a well-curated selection of staples like Comté and more unique French creations like Calvados-washed sheep tomme and cherry blossom-stuffed Sakura." - Emily Monaco

Loved this cheese shop! The man helping is was very passionate, kind and helpful and let us taste different samples of the cheese. The cheese was very affordable. If I lived here I would come here all the time.

The cheesemonger was very friendly, helpful, and passionate! We got two cheese (brillat savarin and buronoix), the latter being one the cheesemonger recommended. Though not the case with us, the cheesemonger was able to vacuum seal cheeses for long distance travel. There was a wide variety of cheeses, meats, and wines to choose from. We would definitely come back here given the chance.

Highly recommend this cheese shop! There is a big selection of cheeses from all over France, there are also some sauces and meat. It was a bit hard to choose, so the seller helped us and recommended cheeses that suits our needs- the seller is super nice! On the end we chose 3 types of cheese- 1) danish blue cheese (which obviously was stinky but also a bit fruity and soft). 2) orange like blue cheese (which was stinky and a bit tangy). 3) a goat cheese, which had a strong milky and sheep flavour. All the pleasure cost us about 8 euros, which is not high! I highly recommend this shop, and therefor i give 5 stars ⭐️

I can't say enough about how enjoyable this cheese shop was to visit! Alex provided wonderful service and guidance to various cheeses that he's has both locally sourced and from around the world. Fluent in many languages no matter where you're from I'm sure you to have a wonderful experience! I'm guaranteed to stop in every time I'm in Paris!!

The last time I was in Paris many years ago, I attempted to sample a wide variety of French cheeses unavailable in my home country but had a less than memorable experience at a (different) fromagerie due to my poor French proficiency (my fault.) When I visited for a second time in Sept 2024, I was hopeful to find a shop with English-speaking staff and stumbled across COW. The person who assisted me spoke great English and was patient, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations. Ultimately, we purchased small portions of Brie de Melun (France), Truffle Gouda (Amsterdam), and Fleur Du Maquis, a sheep’s milk cheese from France for a very reasonable €12. COW has a unique selection of global cheeses, and I highly recommend visiting, especially if you are open to trying new cheeses with interesting flavors/textures or are seeking specific recommendations.
