Best Restaurants at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) | Eater Phoenix

"Airport continuation of the quirky Old Town Scottsdale favorite, offering the notable Stetson Chopped Salad (Israeli couscous, chicken swapped for the original smoked salmon, grilled sweet corn, trail mix, tomato, arugula, with buttermilk pesto dressing) and the signature Exotic Mushroom Pan Fry (mushrooms in ancho cream sauce over grilled polenta). Also serves soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers." - Nikki Buchanan

They say avoid airport restaurants, but I disagree, especially here at Cowboy Cíao! The food was amazing, and the service was great! The waitress was very friendly and polite. We were seated at a table, and we took our time to dine. We were not rushed out. Recommended. 5/5

Google
Great food! Friendly and fast service. Much better than the French cafe next to it. The Rose got me tipsy with six ounces. It was awesome! And the food was super good! Thank you for making my missed flight just a little better. -Brittany -color cocktail factory

Google
Went 7 months ago and again tonight’ Solid place for a beverage and some food as you are between flights. Chicken quesadilla is a good choice. The shrimp polenta was actually much better than expected! Have a big cold draft beer or a decent glass of wine as you pass the time. Maybe watch some TV/the game. Prices are “airport high”, but that’s to be expected! Our bartender server, Karen, took a long second to notice us, but after that she was attentive and very nice VictorB

Google
Obviously a busy place - it’s the airport! The people are great & efficient- food selection is perfect - AZ wines & beer & drinks - stop by ! Maria was excellent! Thank you!

Google
The food was delicious. We had the Turkey Melt and the Stetson Chopped Salad. The arugula was delicious and the sandwich was substantial and cooked to perfection. We were at the airport with not many options, so you wouldn’t expect the atmosphere to be great. We were crammed in and sat right by the entrance. Service was a bit slow, but given they have no real competition, we were pleasantly surprised how good the food was.

Google
Our server was friendly, sat us fast. Took our order and the food came out pretty fast. The food was really good! The potatoes were crispy, the bacon was crispy. The eggs were definitely from like a carton.

Google
Cowboy Ciao is nothing special but for an airport restaurant that had a short wait and okay food, it met my expectations.

Google
This was a refreshingly quiet place to stop for something to eat in terminal 4 (next to gate B22) of the Phoenix Airport. It wasn't very busy (12:30 - lunch time). The waiter was attentive, and the food was seriously wonderful! Our wait between ordering and getting our food was short. It is not inexpensive by any standard, but worth it because the flavor is great. I got the Ciao burger, my husband got the fried chicken sandwich. Both came with fries, which were also good. Everything was made to order and served hot. Weirdly enough this place does not have straws, but they do have a full bar for those who want that. There is also a small grab and go next to the restaurant. I would stop here again if I were traveling through Phoenix.

Yelp
I ordered a fried chicken sandwich, but only ate the chicken too avoid the bread. It was really good. Also has an espresso martini. For an airport restaurant/bar, I'm pretty impressed. The bartender was also cool. Overall a good spot to stop when waiting at Terminal B high numbered gates.

Yelp
This looked like a decent place among the other choices, but it was very disappointing. The bun was cold and the meat was not seasoned right burger is just a shame. I won't recommend this place.

Yelp
Of the two sit-down restaurants I've tried in PHX, this one blows Zinc out of the water. Had the shrimp and polenta; creamy polenta, with roasted sweet corn and poblano peppers within it. An interesting twist on traditional Shrimp & Grits. My server, Annalise was great. Kept my water glass full even through the busy service

Yelp
I've never been served a BLT on a mildly warm English muffin with large bacon bits, lettuce, tomato but no mayo. I asked for mayo to add to it but nothing can make this taste like a BLT. I'm giving them 3 stars for hot French fries, and good service. I DO hope they change their thinking on their version of a BLT. It's terrible.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good but very greasy. However the Mac n' cheese was pretty good. Also the service was not the absolute best for it not being too busy during the time I was there.
google avatar

Todd R.

Yelp
The service here has a a joke. Some guy sits you down and you wait what seems like an eternity for your order to be taken. Music is playing. People are relaxing but the server is even more relaxed. Ordered the chicken sandwich, must say it is not bad at all. Did have a good crispy skin. Had lemonade and it is watered down. They never check on you. Had to almost tackle the guy to get a refill and he brings tea! Really! Where do they find these people? Since they never check on you it will take a bit for your ticket. The server just stands in the corner looking lost. Suggest you try a different place to eat

Yelp
Tried this little restaurant out waiting for my flight . I got seated quickly and got an awesome waiter. I ordered the Mac and cheese and the sunset cocktail drink. He was checking on me but not so much to bother. The Mac and cheese was so delicious and cheesy, and the drink wasn't too strong and was perfect. I'd come again to try their breakfast options.

Yelp
I just had one of the best salads of my life! If you ever are in Sky Harbor terminal 4 and you have time, you gotta try their Stetson Choppes Salad! I never expected to eat cous cous at the airport! The salad was absolutely delicious with arugula, cous cous, cranberries, avocado and Smoked salmon!! (You can choose chicken instead, too) I looked at what other people were eating and their quesadilla and shrimp with polenta(polenta at an airport!!??!) looked good as well. The restaurant was extremely busy and full house. I was seated at the bar. Marsha, the bartender was fantastic. She was efficient and made everything so smooth. What a gem! I hope my gate will be near this restaurant again next time I fly into Sky harbor!
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
Expensive because it's at the airport but you are paying for the convenience. I was alone so I sat at the bar. The red headed bartender was a little rude but efficient. I had the green Chile pork fries were good but they needed some salsa or something because they were a little Bland. I added some hot sauce to liven it up. The pork was good but not much of it. The menu was short but diverse. It is a good place to go if you want to rest and eat between flights.

Yelp
Show me a restaurant in an airport that has half way decent food and service. Please. Anybody?!
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
I was a tired traveler when I went through the Phoenix airport and found this delightful restaurant. They had one of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever had in my life. They put a fun little twist on it with a chipotle dressing and spiced it up a bit. They also did not do the typical sauerkraut, but had a red cabbage slaw on the marbled rye. The sandwich was just perfection indeed. I was seated immediately. Service was quick, easy, and easy to flag them down when I needed extra ketchup for my fries. All in all a fabulous experience at the airport. Wish they were closer!

Yelp
This place has a nice vibe. The food is good. I got a chicken quesadilla, which came out relatively fast. I definitely think the waitstaff is pretty quick with their service. The drink came out pretty fast as well. It is good. All is good.

Yelp
Phoenix doesn't offer many sit-down dining options, especially in the B-C gate areas, but Cowboy Ciao is one of the few available. It was fairly busy on a Monday afternoon, but we were looking for a place to watch the football game, and luckily, they had it on. The menu has good options, though a bit limited. I only spotted three vegetarian dishes during our visit. The chopped salad was a refreshing choice, especially after several meat-heavy days in Mexico with little to no veggies. I ordered two guava margaritas-- the first one was disappointing, with almost no flavor. However, the second was much better, served with a salted rim, in a nicer glass (since they don't provide straws), and had an incredible guava flavor. I guess it depends on who's tending the bar. Overall, it's the best option for a sit-down restaurant in the area.

Yelp
I must admit, I was skeptical given the reviews of Cowboy Ciao. But, I was starving, had a 3hr layover yesterday AND didn't feel like hiking around Skyharbor so...I stepped inside. Was pleasantly surprised. Sat at the bar since I was traveling alone. Bartender was fast and professional. She was quick with the drink order and gave me time to review the menu. No pressure to hurry even though the place was pretty crowded (about 5:30p). Ordered a burger and fries. Burger was cooked perfectly to order (medium), fries were fresh and crispy with lots of seasoning. Food came out in about 15min so timing was good. I pulled out my laptop to get some work done since I had time to kill. No pressure to pay and move on. Would definitely stop into Cowboy Ciao again if time and circumstance allowed.

Yelp
1. Terrible service, we were neglected and ignored the entire experience. 2. The food is trash, especially!!! For the prices- actually insane. Better off going to McDonald's a couple feet down. Very disappointed

Yelp
Nice spot to stop for a solid meal if you're tired and need a minute to rest. I was craving a salad and found a nice selection on their menu. The food was fast... like 5 minutes. It's a busy location so it might be loud. Not bad!
google avatar

Faz K.

Yelp
Ummm Its airport food. For airport food it's fine. Not the greatest but they hit that medium level or mediocrity you expect at airports so it's fair to say it meets, it meets expectations. They have a nice enough seating space. Its kind of tight with all the bags and what not which is to be expected. The service was a highmark. The food was ok. I had an overcooked chicken breast slathered in too much ok bbq sauce and my colleague found their pastrami similarly adequate. The ice tea was kinda funky and the fries were awesome. Would i come back here again should i find myself at sky harbor? Yeah probably.

Yelp
Not a good start! The hostess was bundled up and asleep around the corner from the hostess station. She tried to sit us at a table in the entrance, but we asked to go to one of the numerous tables in the back. She said we couldn't, but I asked her nicely to check anyway. She grumpily complied, but made a disgusted noise as she sat us down! Service was slow for an airport bar, but the server (Anthony) was nice and attentive, and the drinks and food were great!
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
While there is nothing remarkable about Cowboy Ciao Cafe (near Gate B20), the Caesar chicken salad offered a bite of chicken breast in every bite. The cost is a bit steep ($14.99 plus $3.99 for a small diet Coke), but service is fairly fast.
google avatar

Viviana A.

Yelp
Food was good. Customer service was great. The restaurant had a good vibe.. We stopped by for a quick lunch before we got our flight back home.

Yelp
While the spot is a quick bite restaurant in the Phoenix Airport, one shouldn't probably have many high expectations, but a drink is a drink. Ordered an Old Fashioned and the older female bartender who has been apparently making old fashions since before man made them popular, I don't know what that means, but I don't think any version of this cocktail is to throw bitters and I'm not sure if it was simple syrup or actual sugar, but because I don't see grains I'll assume syrup, and then poor the whiskey and then muddle. Then to make the glass seem full, throw a bunch of ice in and spray club soda on top is beyond me!!! I guess. They had club soda from when before man made these popular huh? I will admit though because I only took a sip to taste and didn't finish, I wasn't required to pay for the drink, which was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Food and coffee the worst I have ever had! English muffins hard as rock. Eggs awful with funny texture. Sausage patty was good, only thing with flavor coffee tastes burnt or old. Going to get McDonald's
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
The Ciao cheeseburger was the best item that was tasted today. The Macaroni & Cheese was extremely bland despite how cheesy the photo looks. The quesadilla would have been better if the chicken wasn't dry and if the tortilla hadn't gotten wet underneath it. The Turkey melt was overall good per my friend, however, it would have used more pesto. Lastly, the chips and guacamole were decent. Overall, what you would expect for airport food!
google avatar

Suzanne B.

Yelp
In a pinch this will do. The service was very nice and was in a slightly quieter terminal when the airport was madness from 50 delayed flights. It's an actual restaurant so you can sit and look at the planes. Just two limited view TVs playing infomercials when we were there but it was near closing. I think the bar and restaurant (maybe terminal A?) is a better choice although it's busier and had a line. We got the pork fries (meh) the guacamole (tasted way premade) and the shrimp and grits (not bad).

Noah G.

Yelp
Dylan has the best and most welcoming vibes I've ever seen! Food is great and came out wicked quick.
google avatar

Fernando F.

Yelp
We had the burger and Buffalo chicken, food was very disappointing and the service was worse... guy behind the bar was rude. The French place next door is much better with ten times better service!
google avatar

Farm S.

Yelp
I had the salmon and chips and guacamole. The server was nice . The guacamole was delicious but the salsa tasted like it came from a jar and the chips taste stale . I'm disappointed . The salmon was superber, you don't need the lemon but with it , it was amazing . The vegetables that came with it , the mushrooms was the best . For the price of the salmon dish , I was disappointed about how small the salmon portion is .
google avatar

Yelp
Even worse than last time I made the mistake of sitting down in this place. First batch of chips, salsa and guacamole sent back with stale chips. Second batch sent back with rancid salsa and questionable guacamole. Took 20 minutes to get my bottled beer. Floors are disgusting, cleaning supplies left sitting out on bar seating, untouched by employees the entire time we were here. The area we were seated in reeks of something sour. Only good is that the hostess and our server were nice. HMS Host should be ashamed of themselves. They bid on these airport restaurant management contracts and then they make the menus generic so that no matter where you eat the menu is basically the same, and turn the restaurants into garbage. Seriously, if this restaurant were exactly like this outside of the airport it would be out of business in a month. HMS should be fired.

Yelp
Having our last cocktail before boarding our plane for home! Moscow Mule & Guava Margarita! Very busy spot!
google avatar

Blade M.

Yelp
Rubbery chicken sandwich. Cold fries. Inattentive service. McDonald's was right next door with better food, faster service, and 1/2 the price. 2 stars because the ambiance didn't suck.

Connor H.

Yelp
Service took forever & got food poisoning 6 hrs later , 2hrs after getting of my final flight, the quesadilla I had ate came back up... and 2 days of absolute sickness followed. Won't eat there again Never been so sick
google avatar

Sam V.

Yelp
Tasty food! Service average for the airport right now. We had to wait a minute or two to be seated. Service was slow in the beginning but once our waiter introduced himself he was on top of it and friendly. He checked in on us. The restaurant is typically busy throughout the day. Great place to sit down and eat.
google avatar

M. D.

Yelp
I thought the food was great but the manager was not pleased with how my order came out (per my request). Clearly he had higher standards and I greatly appreciate that. The service was top notch. The manager took great care of me and, no doubt, if I'm ever passing through Phoenix (Sky Harbor) I will be paying a visit to Cowboy Ciao. Thank you!!
google avatar

F. L.

Yelp
It might be 2 stars outside of an airport. The breakfast quesadilla was perfectly edible, the cheese was melted and the bacon was crispy, the taste was nothing special. For PHX airport it's fine.

Sarah P.

Yelp
AVOID! The Ciao Breakfast at nearly $15 is truly awful. With the exception of the potatoes, I could have gone next door to McDonald's and purchased a superior quality breakfast for a third of the price. The scrambled egg was processed and the sausage patty thin and dry. It makes me so mad that certain airport establishments feel they can serve up subpar food because most won't return or complain. Do better Cowboy Ciao.

Mark B.

Yelp
Really great food, really great service! This is a great place to take a break between flights at the Phoenix airport
google avatar

William W.

Yelp
Still great after all these years. Try the chop salad. It's original and delicious.
google avatar

Woo J.

Yelp
Pretty good for an airport food. Small portions and kind of slow service, but their beer was ice cold and that was very nice. The waiter was very friendly but didn't love that he was keep asking if I wanted another beer when I was only 1/2 to 2/3 way done - why would I order another beer when it will just get warm while I finish my first? Clean table and it was pretty quite/not super packed, so I liked that I can relax a bit.
google avatar

Devin F.

Yelp
Great place to stop before a flight out. Sat at the bar and were immediately served. Our bartender was awesome and made great drinks. Nothing special with the breakfast but plenty of food.
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
This place is such a disappointment. The best part was the super friendly guy who seated us. The rest of the experience left me so grumpy. :-( We walked a long way to get to this restaurant, and were so very disappointed by the food and the service. First, the food... Our chips & guac were acceptable. Some of the chips were undercooked or overcooked, but most were good. The guac & salsa were nice. Our french fries were just pitiful greasy grossness (half were edible). How a cook could put those out - and how a waitress could give them to a customer - is beyond my comprehension. The menu is extremely small. Especially if you have food allergies or sensitivities, you'll wish you went *anywhere else*. The chips are gluten-free, but fried with gluten things (cross-contaminated). The guac is dairy-free. We appreciated that the waitress knew these answers when we asked. Our waitress made us feel like we were a total waste of her time, once we didn't order alcohol right off the bat. She walked past our table plenty of times, giving attention to other customers. She seemed reluctant to even give us our food. I had to get up and chase her down just to get our check. I hope I never forget this place... because when I fly through here again, I want to remember to get food in *any other terminal* besides A/B. A/B is like a food desert, and Cowboy Ciao is like a mirage that you don't realize is so bad until you've already walked all the way there, waited in the super slow line, and are finally in your seat.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
I used to like this place for the creative flavorful mushroom stew. Have to say the last visit was pretty disappointing. I just wanted a couple of fried eggs but they only have scrambled eggs. The bartender was pretty stern about what they have. So I went to grab something to go from their retail section and this thing turned out to be $16 for a thin pile of Ingredients. Meh
google avatar

Von R.

Yelp
Was at the airport today and really wanted to try the mushroom fish, walked all the way around the terminal from gate D to B. Although crowded we were seated quickly, however the sofa seats are too soft. Dish arrived within 10 minutes, considering the price of $19, the portion was very small, in a small salad bowl, seemed more like an appetizer size than an entree. There were more polentas than mushrooms. Tasted good but wished it comes in a bigger plate.

Sue E.

Yelp
so the food here is great! however.... we watched 8 tables get served before us including steaks and we spent 20 minutes? with our drinks empty. lucky for us we had lots of time before our flight. The food literally took just under 1 hour. 3 tables that got there after us were served and gone before our sandwiches showed up. As I said , the food was good.. the appetizer showed quickly and I would recommend the quesadilla! we stayed quiet and hoped for a little compensation ? waiter was nice apologizing after he realized it was taking forever. Not sure what happened, but it wasn't very impressive.... our sense of humor carried us through when we saw the last 3 of the 8 that showed up after us got served had us laughing at each one in disbelief!
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Very friendly customer service and food came out fast and hot. I ordered the quesadilla and there was no doubt about it; I was going to get a heart attack. Plenty of cheese, bacon bits, and probably a lot of butter went into that quesadilla. It was also a full big plate sized portion too. Crispy tortilla outside and soft melty cheese insides. The pico de gallo and salsa on the side helped cut some of the grease but definitely could've used more. Wasn't spicy at all. It was rather packed on a Sunday afternoon but I think the wait went by quick.
google avatar

Caitlin B.

Yelp
(This location is located in terminal 4 near B Gate 22) I was stuck in the airport for a while and decided to try Cowboy Ciao. I stood in line for a few as you have to wait to be seated. I ordered a Long Island iced tea which was okay, it was not as strong as I would of liked. It was crowded on the inside from the bar to the tables. However I managed to get a seat within 5 minutes. The menu is very light and not much to choose from. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and the fried chicken sandwich. It was just okay, the salad was refreshing and the chicken sandwich was something you order from a vending machine and reheat. I was just not impressed, look for other options if you can. But if you do choose this establishment, stick to the fries because those are actually good. Happy Eatings!
google avatar

Franny Z.

Yelp
We stopped by for a quick bite. The line wasn't too long and we were sat within minutes. Our drinks and food came out very quickly as well. We ordered the Ciao Breakfast with Sausage, Vanilla Yogurt Parfait, and a side of bacon. My parfait and bacon totally hit the spot. Our server was very friendly as well.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
So this is the second restaurant I went to at this airport and the second time I ordered a burger at this airport and this experience was much improved. It was actually a pretty decent burger, I sat at the bar and bartender was super nice and efficient. Although I was closer to Zinc, where I dined my previous visit I made to Phoenix, I was disappointed by the quality of food and service. This was definitely an upgrade and you should chose this spot regardless if you're closer to Zinc. If you're a beer fan like I am, I've noticed airports usually have a good selection of local beers to try, so always check out the beer list.
google avatar

Harris K.

Yelp
On my way to Monterey and decided to grab a bite to eat prior to boarding my flight and Cowboy Ciao was the only thing that looked decedent at the gate. And they served beer. :) Well let's just say I probably would have been better getting McDonald's. The beer was great but the sandwich left something to be desisted for. Although the fries were large it seemed like they skimped a bit on the quantity. The green chili pork fries were absolutely bland. No flavor at all. I couldn't tell that I was even eating meat. I had to add salt to make it somewhat flavorful. Needless to say I wouldn't get either again.
