The 20 Best Affordable Restaurants in Inland Empire

"A plentiful, delicious breakfast or lunch at an affordable price is always a good thing. At Cowboy Surfer Grill, a country breakfast consists of two large eggs, bacon, sausage patty, seasoned potatoes or hash browns, and a ⅓ pound biscuit covered in delicious sausage gravy — and it comes in at less than $13. Easy Rider sandwiches (the restaurant’s take on a sausage McMuffin) and the Breakfast BLT are both under $9, too. This is truly one of the better breakfast and lunch options in the IE." - Sean Vukan, Eater Staff

"That's the menu?" is what I said when I realized what the newspapers laying on the table were. It's an example of the fun quirkiness of this restaurant. When you first walk in, you're looking at funny and interesting quotes and art covering the walls. Branding is huge here with their cowboy surfer mascot all over the mugs, table tops, and chairs. It all feels reminiscently Disney-esque. I was pleased to find a vegetarian/vegan section in their newspaper/menu where you could order both breakfast and lunch. The portions are generous and we ended up taking home leftovers, which even eaten hours later was still tasty. And as busy as they were, all the waitresses had stopped by our table to check in on us. It's no wonder this place is so popular. We lucked out and only had to wait a few minutes before being seated, not realizing it's recommended to call ahead. Still, we came at around 10:30am on a Saturday as walk ins and it still worked out fine.

We stopped in for breakfast this morning, but if I could fit even one more bite in my mouth, I would be back for lunch! Owner is friendly and engaged, the entire team was welcoming and provided incredible service. The menu is as as big as the portions...but the quality of the food and flavors are the standout. THE BISCUITS ARE AN ABSOLUTE MUST, no matter if you like your biscuit savory with gravy or sweet and creamy with butter and jam. We will be back again soon and will bring our friends and family!!!

Google
To sum it up: The food is great. Hubby and I shared a pastrami combo meal. Our server, Carol, was most accommodating in splitting the meal up in two separate plates...(we didn’t ask for this). The food was so delicious and the atmosphere was captivating and amusing. We will definitely come back here again. And decided we are going to try breakfast the next time, as we looked around us and saw others with delicious breakfast plates.

Visited for the first time and had a fantastic experience! The veggie omelet was delicious, the service was excellent, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. A big bonus—they’re dog-friendly! We were able to sit out front with our pup and enjoy breakfast as a family. Highly recommend!

Google
Ordered breakfast take-out. Food was good. Service was good. I wish the breakfast gravy had better flavor. It tasted healthy. The staff were nice and friendly. The building, as a whole, could use a good cleaning with the decor a bit dirty and grimy from years of kitchen grease. The food wasn't affected by it, just the walls and decor. Pretty small seating area. I don't think I would try to get anyone handicapped in there but, they do have two tables outside of front door for mobility issues.

Service was fast and courteous. Our waitress had a great attitude and friendly. Food hot and delicious. I order the steak and eggs and added French toast. Also order a burger. Burger was juicy. We will go back again.

I always forget to take pictures of the food since it’s so good. The breakfast here is just amazing all around and they have some of the best coffee I’ve ever had at a breakfast joint. Cowabunga sandwich highly recommended.

Google
This place is a blast from the past. You don't find too many diners like this anymore. The staff is super friendly, the service is quick and the food is excellent. If you are in the area, make sure to check this place and bring your appetite. I ordered the Lone Ranger, a country fried chicken steak covered in gravy, cheese, and a couple of eggs, simply delicious. My wife had the breakfast burrito with gravy in with crispy hashbrowns inside the burrito, and they were actually crispy!!! It was my favorite that we had that morning. The menu is fully customizable, and if you have a food allergy, they will use new pans and untelis to make it so that there is no contamination. Oh, and I almost forgot the coffee comes in a mug, not a cup, and it comes with an assortment of creamers. It feels more like at home this way. One last thing you can't beat is the prices for the two of us it 38$ for two meals, with beverages, a side order of avocado, and a single piece of French Toast, that is amazing in today's world.

Yelp
When my girlfriend visited from out of state, she wanted to eat here because she was very taken by the name (we are often tickled by things like this) and I enthusiastically agreed to try it out. I'm one of those people who goes online to look at the menu so that I know what I want already when I get there, but ahhh, there were SO many things that sounded so good! I went with the Surf Bomb since it's kind of a staple and a best-seller, and when trying new local spots that's what you want to go with. It did not disappoint! I loved my food and so did my girlfriend, and I know I'll have to come back several times over to try all the other things on the menu that I was torn between. A lot of people mention the sign on the window, in their reviews, so I'd like to address that. It says "Come for the food, not the service!" You have to understand something. A part of this place's charm is a certain tongue-in-cheek attitude that is hard to explain, but is best described as "We're all just trying to get through it, be normal and be chill please." I think some people who don't have a sense of humor won't jive with this place. If you come here expecting to be treated like a Queen, you're gonna have a bad time. If you come here expecting to be the staff's top priority when they're completely packed and orders are piling up, you're gonna have a bad time. Order, enjoy your (delicious) food, tip your server, and be on your way! It's a small establishment and they get really busy, so there can sometimes be quite a wait to get seated, which can be hard when you're hungry and it's hot out. They're very up front about how slammed they get and suggest, even on their website, that it would be a good idea to call ahead. They keep several lists for walk ins vs phone calls, so just because it looks like someone who came in after you got seated before you, that's not really the case. If you have questions, ask! Everyone I spoke to was friendly and helpful, but you will not find that fake, pandering, over-the-top "It was a pleasure to serve you!" attitude here, which I think maybe puts some people off for some reason? I personally appreciate the realness. Long story short, we loved our visit and I will absolutely be back (with or without the girlfriend, sorry baby).

Yelp
Great breakfast spot, breakfast burrito is 10/10. Service and ambience is also great, felt very welcomed. Would definitely come back and DEFINITELY recommend.

Yelp
What a great place for breakfast. It gets busy so be ready to wait unless you call ahead. They do not take reservations but you can call ahead before leaving home to put name in. Staff are all very friendly and busy like bees. We traveled from out of Town and meet some friends here for breakfast after refered by our daughter. Even though they are busy the service is good. Our drink order was taken immediately and served promptly. Our server let us settle in before coming back for food order. Several staff came by mutiple times to refill drinks. I was amazed how fast the kitchen got our order out. Our meals included: breakfast burrito, pancakes, french toast, breakfast philly, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patty and the famous sourdough pancake. Everyone enjoyed their overly abundant plates. Many togo containers left with us. This place is worth dining. Will stop by again when in area.

Yelp
My daughter and I stopped in for breakfast after she picked me up in Ontario. What a great place!! It was full but we only waited about 5 minutes for a table. The owner came and greeted us, asked if we had any questions, talked about the restaurant and himself. Fascinating guy and super friendly!! We both got the Steve 'n Kathy scramble. So good. Cooked perfectly. People kept coming to fill our coffee and water. Great food! Great service! Great prices! We will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is sweet. Great service. Country fried steak and gravity was awesome. Love the price as well. It's an all around breakfast spot. Make it here and enjoy!
google avatar

Brandon C.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The food is super reasonable as far as price and it smacks. For you boomers that means it's delicious the services as expected very busy a lot of people on the weekend but still good service given those circumstances the ladies were very friendly and I thought it was very cool how it looked like it used to be a subway and they turned it into a diner.
google avatar

Karina F.

Yelp
We went there today 8/31/24 for early lunch .. very cool place. Is a small but the food is delicious. I really hope they can expand soon and will accommodate more customers inside. The ambiance is very cool. The deco is super nice and a gain the food is good. Coffee Fresh. We order the BP Risin' delicious. We will come back for sure.

Yelp

Yelp
Excuse the un-esthetic picture but this is the aftermath of a delicious breakfast at the Cowboy Surfer. The place is fun and clean. Staff is great and I love the music .

Yelp
Stopped here on the way home from the three day weekend. Super short wait for a party of two for lunch, we were able to squeeze in no problem. Very fun, down to earth, personable crew, several people checked on us throughout lunch for our drinks or on how our meal was going. I had the christi's CPB, and mom had the Lucy, both hearty and delicious, very happy to have multiple real vegetarian/vegan options. This is a great place for multiple people wanting different options, but it seems super popular with the locals, so be prepared for a wait. It's worth it. Will add to our road trip bookmarks.

Yelp
This is a great little spot in Corona. We went on a Sunday and it was busy so we made reservations. There are lots of cool signs and interesting things to look at while waiting. I ordered the steak and eggs, which was excellent. My wife and sister-in-law ordered eggs Benedict which they said were good but the eggs were overcooked. I believe they should be over easy. Overall, I would definitely go back. The owner came around and talked to everybody personally, which was a nice touch. Give it a try.

Julie B.

Yelp
Great food, always busy but everyone is helpful and they have a big turn over always so not long wait ! Place is like a cheers ! Everyone seems to know your name ! Big local hang out ! Easy parking , fair priced ! Steve and his staff are for nice !

Laura C.

Yelp
Best breakfast burritos! Service is always great whether pick up or dining in. Love the kitschy atmosphere too
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly staff. Restaurant was clean and kitschy! Want to come back and get a burger. Menu is extensive and has many choices. I went with recommendation. Lone Ranger- home fries, thin sliced potatoes, gravy, cheese and chicken fried steak with eggs.
google avatar

Amada P.

Yelp
This place is very cozy family kind of feeling! They have funny signs all over the walls and bathrooms. It is not too big, so every time we have come there has been a wait. T-bam breakfast is 2 eggs over the tamales, on top of potatoes, hash browns or refried beans. The tamales offered are pork or Chicken and are very filling!! Great place for breakfast!!
google avatar

Curious C.

Yelp
Check out this best kept secret! I think it's one of the best diners in Corona, Ca. People come here for good food, seriously! Take note they are only open till 3 PM. So glad I stumbled into this hidden gem.
google avatar

Natalia F.

Yelp
Worth the wait!! There on a Monday around 10:45a with a line out the door. Went there with a colleague and when we went to put our name in, a guy said "worth the wait", he was spot on. We were ready for lunch so we both ordered sandwiches, the tuna melt and the Hoddady! Both started with a salad which came with ALL the fixins for a side salad. It had mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, peppers, cheese, and carrots(i think?) and I had the feta Italian dressing- Y.U.M. Great portion size and fresh food. Funky decor keeps you entertained and the ladies room has some good lookin' art.

Yelp
Very good breakfast. Very busy, takeout was easier than getting a table. People were very friendly.

Yelp
It feels like everyone in my family has been to Cowboy Surfer Grill except me...until today. My older sister lives in the area and after a last minute plan change, she asked me if I wanted to finally try Cowboy Surfer Grill. I had heard so many good things from my other sister, who just raves about it, so naturally I said yes. We got in and it was very crowded, which makes sense because it was around 1:00p.m. We waited 15 minutes for the 3 of us and got sat down in a nice booth spot in the back. We got our drink orders taken very quickly (wide variety of drink options) and then our food orders got taken. I got the "Gnarly Dude" with their fries and "Gnarly Ranch." It's basically their Mother Clucker sandwich (a sandwich my older sister always gets and raves about) but spicier. My niece got a waffle. My sandwich was SO good, I devoured it. I totally get the hype with the chicken sandwiches now. All of the toppings paired great with the spicy chicken. Their sidewinder fries are super unique and paired very well with the Gnarly ranch. I also got my aunt tax and took a bite of my nieces waffle. I'm not usually a waffle person, but it had cinnamon in it which made it SO good. Will definitely have to get breakfast when I'm there next! Overall, a super cute (dare I say, gnarly) spot in Corona. Great service, great ambiance (filled with drawings and cowboy surfer grill merch), and great food. Will definitely go again when I'm in the area!
google avatar

Diane S.

Yelp
Amazing service! Super friendly and accommodating! Food I order was average just eggs bacon hash browns and a biscuit. They made my eggs perfectly. Biscuit was dry. The hash browns were disappointing considering they get rave reviews. They were just so-so for me. I'll go again and try other menus items and I'm sure it will be tasty.
google avatar

Jenifer A.

Yelp
Great customer service, always greet you with a smile and some funny jokes. Food is portioned well, the menu is large and every time I try something new, I'm never disappointed. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable and is the best breakfast spot in Corona!
google avatar

Maggie R.

Yelp
If your like me and like to order smaller portions they accommodate. I love poached eggs and was pleasantly surprised when the perfect poached egg was on my plate. Like this local breakfast spot.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
The best customer service I have received in quite some time the service was very pleasant and the food just as good.

Nancy E.

Yelp
Love the friendly staff and delicious food ! You will never be disappointed in choosing from their unique personalized menu.
google avatar

Aleina R.

Yelp
Service was good! I had to wait but not for too long on a Sunday lunch. It's very family friendly, my kid enjoys the food! The tables are just too close to each other, and no much space. But I like their food.
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
I love this little mom and pop restaurant. The food is always amazing and the staff is great. Highly recommend it.
google avatar

Heather J.

Yelp
My mom was in town for the day and I wanted to take her to a local breakfast spot. After looking through Yelp, I stumbled upon Cowboy Surfer Grill. The restaurant is located in a shopping center near Vons. Parking was easy, especially since we went at 8am. The restaurant itself has it's own unique charm. Definitely leans into the surfer vibes. I appreciated that the staff made you feel welcomed and at home. They have a good variety of breakfast entrees as well as an anytime menu. My mom and I both decided to get breakfast combos which came with a choice of 2 pancakes/french toast/waffles, eggs, bacon, and a sausage patty. The food was hearty and the pancakes are huge! Literally as big as our heads. The waitress did warn us beforehand. Needless to say, we brought home the leftovers! There seemed to be quite a few regulars coming in which is testament to the quality of food and service here. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Clark H.

Yelp
Oh, what a wonderful place! My girlfriend and I were looking for a breakfast spot close to her home. I ordered the Easy Rider sandwich, and let me tell you, the bacon was absolutely phenomenal. She had the cheese omelette and the sliced potatoes. The potatoes were incredible, they were very thinly sliced with just a hint of heat which made them very flavorful. I didn't get a chance to check out the inside as we sat outside with our dog. If you ever in Ontario and you're looking for a nice breakfast and lunch establishment, this is the place of all places to go. We will definitely be back !!!
google avatar

Lou D.

Yelp
Great place, Great atmosphere and outstanding food. Service is the best and they treat you like family when you are there. Though it is crowded most days it is worth the wait, or order ahead and pick up to go. The only complaint I might have is the size of the place. I wish it was a bit larger to accommodate the crowds. Definitely worth the visit
google avatar

Karyn P.

Yelp
Love, love, love this place. Tiny, but mighty... Have never had anything but a tasty meal. Portions are generous. My SIL and BIL just found this great lil hole in the wall. It was my BIL 80th birthday, plus he was wearing a Marine Corps bb cap. Due to the cosiness, someone overheard it was his birthday and they paid for their meal! Wow..that's the kind of customers they draw. Well needless to say, they too, are now a fan. Oh, and one more thing-during the pandemic they had homemade meals you could order and pop in and pick up. Also very reasonable and tasty. Plus, supporting a local business during that horrible time in hopes they could still stay somewhat afloat. They also have outdoor seating!
google avatar

Carolyn K.

Yelp
We have eaten here many times. The food is good and servers are friendly. This morning I tried the 'just oatmeal! I saw they made it fresh and it was delicious! I had mine with brown sugar, pecans and blueberries - so good!
google avatar

Josh A.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is to die for. Love the food and great service. I haven't tried all their items but plan to!
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Amazing service.its a lil spot .but they pack a punch.i got the lone ranger and it was amazing

Freddie A.

Yelp
The food is amazing but honestly the service is what makes it absolutely amazing for me. They are friendly fast and make you feel comfortable. Expect a wait but that should be expected of a place that delivers top notch food and service. This has quickly become my families weekend routine.
google avatar

Yelp
A friend chose this breakfast & lunch diner as a place for us to meet and eat on a Monday. We figured 11am was a good time - late for breakfast and early for lunch - so it wouldn't be crowded. Boy, were we wrong. This is obviously an extremely popular place, especially for the senior crowd. The place was packed, not a single available table inside and only one table out on the sidewalk open. So we snagged the last table and were thankful the heat was tolerable. The menu is extensive, practically anything you can imagine for breakfast and a long list of burgers and salads for lunch. While my friend went for some sort of omelette I went the lunch route, choosing the Blue Bayou burger with curly fries. All their burgers are double patties. Mine included tomato, lettuce, bacon, and mayo plus melted swiss cheese and bleu (or "blue" as they call it) cheese. I liked that they didn't overdo the bleu cheese and put just enough that it was the prevalent flavor but didn't overpower the taste of the beef or other ingredients. I enjoyed the burger a lot. The curly fries were not the thin type but thick, well seasoned, curled taters. They were very good! Service was friendly, laid-back, and welcoming. The waitresses seemed to personally know a lot of the customers; there is obviously a multitude of local regulars. While most of the photos and reviews seem to be for breakfast I can reliably attest to this diner's ability to make a darn good burger too.

Lisa T.

Yelp
The hamburgers are awesome. I love this little hole in the wall place that's close to home and always a friendly staff.
google avatar

Litzy L.

Yelp
The service and food here is amazing. Not much of a wait when it comes to ordering food. What does take a while is getting seated. It's a small breakfast diner so it gets full fast. The employees are always so welcoming and come often for refills
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
This is the second time we've tried this place, the first time was horrible, and this time was almost as bad. I really wanted this place to be good, especially after all the reviews I've read. The only thing I can think of, is that there are so few decent restaurants in Corona that this place stands above the truly horrible. First off, if you say on the menu that you really need to try the bacon, it better be outstanding, or at the least decent. We ordered the BLT on sourdough toast and when I tell you we only got one piece of bacon per half, I may be exaggerating, it was truly ridiculous!! The bacon was under cooked and so bland I couldn't believe it, half of the sandwich went in the trash. If I were them, I would stop promoting the bacon, it just makes them look silly, needless to say, I will not be back. I should have given them 1 star, but I felt bad because they are a local restaurant, not that they care, the place was packed, so as long as people put up with mediocre food at best, they'll never improve.
google avatar

Janira A.

Yelp
This place is a little gem. If you can't make it to the beach but want a vibe that transfers you there well this is the spot. Great ambiance, service, food and prices. Can't forget there good coffee in a cool cowboy surfer mug. My 2nd time here and I now know where my breakfast go to spot will be. Ask for Brenda, she is amazing although all there staff is great. I highly recommend checking it out. It won't disappoint and if so then try again as you must have gone on a busy day. Thanks for your great service Cowboy Surfer Grill! I'll be back.
google avatar

Cassandra R.

Yelp
Incredibly sweet staff! So accommodating and friendly! The food is delicious as well and they have a huge menu! I do wish they had a gluten free bread option but other than that it's definitely a great breakfast/lunch spot. Love the surfer decor too.
google avatar

Crystal S.

Yelp
I absolutely love coming here, the staff makes you feel like you're part of the family, the food is mouthwateringly good, and can we talk about how fabulous the women's restroom decor is?! It's seriously rockin'!
google avatar

Tracy P.

Yelp
No frills restaurant. Seemed like a locals favorite and the gravy meals were awesome.
google avatar

Duan D.

Yelp
What a place! Went here for Father's Day breakfast and boy were we happy we beat the crowd because it was LONG after we were seated. I love being able to find and support small local businesses and this place is amazing. The owner comes by and greeted us and made sure things were okie dokie. The menu is insanely packed with some great eats. Breakfast is served all day so no need to worry. Prices are are really reasonable and i like that especially with the way prices are these days I'm happy to see this. Drop by you won't regret the food or the cool ambiance.
google avatar

Phil W.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time today and it definitely lives up to its reputation! The food and service were both excellent. We ordered the Easy Rider, waffles and Irish Nachos. Everything tasted great! Can't wait to come back for lunch

Yelp
Cowboy Surfer Grill is a dope spot, arrived during a weekday and to my surprise it was packed. As soon as you walk in you will notice a long booth and tables across the left side. A diner counter to the right and the griddle in the middle. I absolutely love this concept, to be able to watch the chef cook your your meal! Thankfully we were seated within minutes. Our waitress was great and attentive. The menu is simple yet creative and prices reasonable. The food names on the menu are great; Shaka, Blue Bayou, Surfin Bird, The Maverick. I decided on the Country Breakfast; 2 large eggs, two strips of bacon, sausage patty, papa's potatoes and 1/3 lb biskit smothered in gravy. Over easy eggs cooked to perfection, bacon ok, sausage patty delish definitely made in house, papa's potatoes a bit oily, would've like it to be crispier, gravy good, biskit ok, the biskit did have a sour taste.. wondering if it had some sourdough in it? If ya'll want a new menu item here's one; instead of the Moco Loco call it Poco Loco or Papa Loco make it Hawaiian style like the typical Moco Loco but since you guys don't have rice use hash brown or Papa's potatoes instead!

Yelp
Cowboy Surfer Grill has to be one of the most feel-good breakfast spots I've ever been to. Great Coffee. The owner is a GEM business owner and a huge inspiration for small business success. Been here probably a dozen times and I have never had a problem with service. Very easy to work with, personable, and happy, despite the craziness of the crowds that can be present at this location. The decorations are simply hilarious, a good mix of beachy, "old guy" humor, and just awesome pieces of art that well-resemble the friendliness of Corona, CA. I would recommend buying a mug or two... They are some of my favorites to drink out of when I'm home. Now to the Denver Omelet review: Very Good. Oil and butter base, but with a good mix of flavors. Great portions, eggs taste fresh and cooked well. Ingredients mixed well, with a hefty layer of cheese on top. Good hot sauce variety to go with the omelet. Bread is very tasty, a bit basic, but has some good flavor with butter. Omelet has a good shape, structure, and ingredients. Classy take on a masterpiece omelet. Really tasty hashbrowns that complement the omelet well. Denver Omelet score: 9.2/10

Yelp
Food was great very busy but fast and polite wait staff. Loved the cowboy surfer feel.

Yelp
I came from out of town (Coachella, CA) to Disneyland and on our way back home, we were looking for a place to have breakfast. I'm really glad I found this place on the way because it was a GREAT experience. The sign out on the window says people come for the food and not the service but it was completely wonderful! The next thing that caught my eye was how they had kids utensils for my toddler when we sat down! The service, food , decoration... it was all amazing. I hope I can go back soon! Coffee was great! Surfer pancakes were DELICIOUS!

Yelp
Great food and Service! We called ahead to make a reservation as they get pretty busy. My husband got the steak and eggs and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I got the Cowboy Surfer Burger w Curly fries it was exactly how I wanted a burger to be seasoned well w red onions and real America cheese the curly fries are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside w great seasoning. Very friendly staff and they made sure you had everything you needed. We will definitely be back!
