Cowell's Garden Centre

I ordered a calathea warscewiczii and was a little nervous ordering a plant online, and with the drop in temperature to boot. Well, I have to say that I was absolutely blown away by the quality of this very well established plant. The leaves are in perfect, and I do mean perfect condition. I was kept informed via email and text of the progress of the shipment, and it was carefully packed. Despite the courier not paying attention to the fragile label, I wouldn't hesitate to order again. I have been visiting garden centres for over 50 years across the UK. If you want quality shrubs, trees, plants, flowers, seeds and everything else garden related look nowhere else in the Newcastle area, we have been to them all. So many staff looking after everything which is growing. When you take a pot plant, shrub or flower home it will be in the best possible condition. There is so much excellent stock to choose from you will not be disappointed. Yes this more expensive than other garden centres, but the quality is a different level. This must be due to staff that love their work ... very impressive. I have never seen so many staff looking after their beautifully presented well stocked arrangements, we loved the succulent area with the many fly catching plants and unusual plants. It was so nice to have a little coffee shed tucked away, food and drink are not the reason to come here, but a nice pit stop to reflect on potential purchases, as the choices are vast. All staff we spoke to knew where to find their products and what was in stock. We managed to get fruit tree netting, to stop our chickens from stripping the red currants and some barley straw to clean the pond. Two nice impulse purchases you don't often find. Excellent, keep up the hard work and we will definitely be back. We just visited mid August 2025. We have never seen so many bumble bees in such a small area. So many gardsn ventres claim to sell plants which attract bees and they don't. Here I took a video of whaf have been over 100 bumble bees, a solitary bee, on the Salvia caradonna pink inspiration. I purchased a plant, took it home and tge bees came from nowhere ... what an attraction and example of a company which knows their business well. Visited today at start October 2025 nice autumn & Christmas theme, it gets earlier every year.

Second time I’ve ordered from Cowell’s and both times very impressed. Good priced plants and you get a lot of plant for your money! Plants received today were individually boxed to full plant height and delivered by DPD 24hr service. Thoroughly recommend Cowell’s garden centre 👍👍👍

We had spotted this tree on display in our local garden centre but they didn’t have any to purchase. We have a small area for a tree and this one was perfect. We looked online for somewhere else local to buy it but couldn’t find anywhere. I saw that Cowells garden centre in Newcastle-upon-Tyne had one and that they would deliver to Coventry for only 6.99! It arrived on time and we are delighted with it.

I am delighted with my two new Mahonia plants, both unusual spine free varieties which I had been searching to buy together online. I wanted reasonably sized plants, in 2 litre pots & I have been sent good specimens with strong root growth. My plants arrived in an enormous box, upside down, despite the clear arrows saying ‘this way up’, but the contents were so securely packaged that neither of the plants were damaged; I received plenty of dispatch and delivery notification too. I can highly recommend this garden centre for their efficient online service.

Best garden centre around! Staff very knowledgeable and helpful. The plants are always in excellent condition, even the plants in the clearance section would be sold full price in other garden centres. The planters in the car park are fabulous, giving ideas of how to plant your flowers at home. I'd highly recommend a place on one of their workshops, I've done the summer hanging baskets and alpine planters, great advice and hips, plus you get a free hot drink and discount voucher. Well worth a visit

I've never had even a slightly poor experience in the many years I've shopped at Cowells Garden Centre. In fact I choose it over bigger local garden centres that have diversified into food, clothing and huge cafes because Cowells focus on the plants and are extremely helpful and knowledgeable in my experience. Excellent service guys so please keep up the good work and take care and stay safe

If I could give this garden centre 0 stars I would, the staff were rude when I asked for assistance, and were uneducated on garden knowledge, the delivery man for my plants was intolerable, his face made me and my family vomit, and the female owner looks like a fat digesting horse. I would also like to state that the photography of the garden centre is shit, clearly need to invest in a better photographer. My advice is to stay away from the pathetic excuse of a garden centre.

This is without question one of the best garden centres in the North East of England. The plants are consistently of high quality with a two year guarantee. There are regular special offers and a brilliant website which is a mine of information. The staff are all friendly and approachable and if one cannot answer a question they quickly find out the information you require by contacting another specialist member of staff. My rather excitable children are always made to feel welcome, particularly by the owner, making a trip out there a pleasure. All businesses should be like this.
