Beautiful vineyard. The tasting room, inside and outside, is gorgeous. The wine is very good. Staff is highly welcoming and explains very well the biodynamic characteristics of the vineyard. Everything is very classy, and the atmosphere outside is beautiful. Highly recommend.

We had the best experience here. Fantastic organic wine, out of this world wood fired pizza and loved the grounds, atmosphere and service. Can’t wait to go back. Thanks you guys.

Gorgeous vineyard with delicious food and amazing wine. Love that they are certified biodynamic and are located in Southern Oregon! Their Spiral blend is my favorite. A perfect place for brunch with the gals, date day with your sweetie, or a solo moment to read and reflect with a gorgeous view. Their servers are knowledgeable and professional. Their tasting room is inviting with it’s spacious and bright atmosphere. If I could I would give a 10/10 rate. Highly recommend!

This winery is one of the best in the Valley. Price is higher than most, but also it has the best tasting wine I’ve had. They have wood fired pizza and heaters for the cold weather. It’s simply beautiful and modern and the gal who helped us was amazing and knowledgeable.

The winery is probably the best in the valley. It’s more expensive than most wineries in the area, but honestly, the wines are absolutely unparalleled. Worth every penny. The bottles range from $35-$65. They ship just about anywhere too. Don’t be fooled by the name or the outside of the winery. We were expecting something a little more rustic, but this winery is super chic and modern, and it’s located in a stunningly beautiful valley. It’s a little out of the way, but you should absolutely not miss this winery. We traveled all over the Mt. Hood area, Willamette, and Sonoma, and Cowhorn has, hands-down, the best wine!

Beautiful property, great onsite live singer. Decent wines. Poor service. No explanation about the wines, food choices, winery etc. Considering one has to go out of the way to get there, service was a real drag on the experience.

Cowhorn Reserve Syrah was the perfect wine to accompany my recent celebration! The Syrah is bold and full bodied with a strong berry taste that I love! Cannot recommend enough!

This review is an easy five stars. I'd double it up for ten if possible. Their rep, Druve, (sorry if I spelled it wrong), made us feel wanted and welcomed. The wine was nothing short of outstanding during the tasting. Unbelievable whites, and I didn't even know I liked whites. The brick-oven pizza was nothing short of spectacular and paired perfect with the two whites and two reds we experienced. We'll be making the long trek out to Cowhorn sooner rather than later. Our 2nd visit and did not disappoint. Of all the Applegate Valley wineries, Cowhorn is a standout. We paid $45 each for the wine tasting and oven-fired pizza tasting. That was steep, but both the wines and the pizza were exceptional, as was the outdoor seating area. The indoor space is gorgeous as well, and I have to mention beautiful bathrooms! Our servers were friendly but not as knowledgeable as talking to the wine makers (as I had last time) and also there was less flexibility about trying things off the list, which other wineries did accommodate. Still, the Cowhorn ethic and wines are stellar and thus the 5 stars.

Their Supper Club offers one of the finest dining experiences in the Valley! Menu is inventive and atmosphere is beautiful. I hope they continue Supper Club forever! Standard tastings and pizza are great too.

I had an amazing tasting at Cowhorn. They're open during covid and very careful about distancing. Despite 90+ degree temperatures and outdoor seating early, we had a great time, with lots of shade, and the wine still kept at the perfect temperature inside prior to serving. I haven't loved most of the wineries in this region, but I loved every wine on our flight at Cowhorn. The bottles are pricey, but they're well worth it and would be great for special occasions. The guy serving us had just started there, but he was highly knowledgeable and gave us a lot of great recommendations. I would definitely go again.

By far the best wine I have tried in the Applegate. The vineyard and tasting area is beautiful. It is modern and showcases the view they have perfectly. They are a biodynamic and organic winery. Cowhorn puts so much intention and integrity in all they produce. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the wine produced at the winery and wine in general. Praise to Cowhorn for creating such a high quality wine that tastes amazing and is good for the environment!

This place was awesome! Great wine, amazing scenery and a very nice tasting room. The staff was awesome and the wood fire pizza was perfect!

This place needs a better sign on the road because we drive past it and had to go back. Other than that this place was great. The wine was some of the best we had in the area. The tasting room looks great and the outside patio is really nice. The staff was friendly and they even had a resident dog to keep you company.

Fav winery in Southern Oregon without a doubt. Love the whites, especially the Spiral 36 and Viognier. Gorgeous Living Building certified tasting room and friendly staff, especially Buddy the resident wine dog. Off the beaten path but well worth the drive to visit this Biodynamic estate that is working with Mother Nature to produce top-notch Rhône wines!

My husband and I visited the Cowhorn Winery on Sunday expecting our experience to be as good as the reviews we'd heard about the winery. Unfortunately, it was a forgettable experience. We sat in the back patio along with 3 other couples. There was another couple that sat in a section that overlooked the vineyard. Bill, the owner, came out and spoke to every couple except us. I couldn't figure out why he would ignore us, but he did. This high end winery couldn't engage in the simple practice of welcoming EVERY customer. I wanted to buy a bottle of wine, but if the owner couldn't acknowledge our presence I was not going to financial support a business that doesn't welcome ALL of their customers.

BEST OF SHOW Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden is a small farm in Southern Oregon's Applegate Valley. Cowhorn is certified Biodynamic® through Demeter USA. Cowhorn has also been certified organic through Stellar Certification Services. At this stage in their development, they have ~20 acres of crops, mainly barley, asparagus and fruit trees, and 11 acres of grape vines including 5 varietals - Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne. The property apparently shares many favorable characteristics with Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Southern Rhône. Gayle and I drove way out here after our visit to Jacksonville. We turned in the driveway and followed the cute and small purple signs to the wine making facility and the upstairs tasting room. In the summer, the winery sets up a tasting tent, but on this beautiful April day, we walked up to small living room type tasting facility. A few minutes later, Bill Steele (one of the owners) and a colleague came up the stairs and greeted us. It adds so much to the experience when the owner/winemaker is talking about his wine, and in such of an approachable and friendly way. We enjoyed listening to the story on how he and his wife Barbara bought and built this property, future plans, and their associated organic produce business (that sells to places like the Ashland Coop and New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro). We also discussed our mutual Bay Area roots, including at least one "it's a small world" Walnut Creek-related coincidence. We were even more impressed with the wine. We bought half a case and came very close to joining our second wine club (after Audellsa in Sonoma). And when their dry and slightly effervescent rose comes out in June, I plan to have them ship me a case.

I really wasn't a wine fan until coming to Cowhorn for the first time. My partner and I are now wine club members and love going to the winery for tastings and wine pick-ups. Beautiful location and friendly staff is a plus!

It was a gorgeous late summer Saturday morning so I threw a leg over the Bumble Bee and took the twisty back roads to Applegate Lake with stops at the winery and McKee Bridge cafe. There was almost no traffic but I rode cautiously watching for deer and saw a family group cross the road going and a doe and fawn when returning, passing the access road to Woodrat Mountain (favorite launching site for hang gliders) and going down into little Applegate Valley, turning right at the ghost hamelt of Bumcom to Applegate Valley and then left up the valley to the Cowhorn Vineyard and Garden. There they grow cherries, asparagus and rhone-type grapes from which they make outstanding white and red wines. With an output of 2,000 cases a year, Cowhorn wines are sold in few stores (Harry & David in Medford and the Ashland Coop are two) but are featured in fine restaurants on the West Coast and New York metropolitan area. In the summer, you can go to the winery on weekends for free tasting and purchase and if you are lucky, you might get a tour. Otherwise you can make an appointment to visit.

While I really like the philosophy of Cowhorn with their Biodynamic farming, I can't say I really like their wines. The tasting room was serving very young wines and the flavor was very green with nothing overly remarkable. There was no depth to the flavor, and there was literally no boquet. Maybe these wines will age well and be worth trying again in a few years, but it is a small winery with small production amounts, so their wines may not make it to a few years down the road to really taste and enjoy. I wish them well, and hope more wineries jump on the biodynamic bandwagon, but I am not rushing out to buy their wines just yet. The winery itself is behind a closed gate (to keep the deer out) and the tasting room is very small. The winemaker/owner is friendly and knowledgeable, and also clearly excited about the way they farm.

We first visited Cowhorn Vineyard over two years ago. At that time there wasn't an official tasting room. I remember the owner standing barefoot sharing his unique approach to growing grapes. It was my first experience tasting biodynamic wines. Wow! What a treat! We are so lucky in Southern Oregon to have so many fantastic local wineries, but in my opinion, none compare with Cowhorn. Even though the wine is on the high end of my budget, we joined the wine club before leaving that day. Cowhorn did not disappoint. They built a beautiful mid-century modern tasting room. The staff is always incredibly friendly! The pours are generous. The setting is picturesque with sweeping views of the Applegate Valley. Buddy the dog runs freely and is always eager to greet. We visited today to pick up our wine release. Another wonderful experience! If you are in the Applegate Valley, be sure to stop by this gem of a winery to taste the best wine in Southern Oregon. You will not be disappointed! As a Native Southern Oregonian, I am so proud to have such a top notch Winery to share with friends and guests!

Amazing wine, the new tasting room is super pretty. Our tasting room attendant was Charlsie, super knowledgeable about the wine, the property, and the wine making process. We had a fantastic time.

I tasted Cowhorn wines before their first release in 2007 and was stunned. The quality of their wines was incredible then and over the last 10 years they have continued to amaze. Cowhorn is easily one of the top wineries in Oregon, and if you are a wine enthusiast, you will do no better than stopping my by this fantastic winery to see and taste what biodynamic winemaking can produce. WOW!

We bought all Cowhorn wine for our wedding in 2013. They were delicious and loved by all. Just finished our last bottle of 2012 Cowhorn Viognier and it was better than ever. highly recommend.

Not the coolest tasting room I've ever seen, but they serve some of the finest wine I have ever let touch my pallet! Incredible... Do not drive past this vineyard ... Oh and all their grapes are grown using biodynamic methods!

Cowhorn Vineyards and Gardens is one our favorite wineries in the Applegate Valley. We have enjoyed being a member of their wine club since it started and have attended functions there such as the "Farm to Fork" dinner held last year. Will miss this year; bummer! Their wines are a little unusual for the Applegate, but the owners, Bill and Barbara Steele, have said the Rhone varietals are very much suited for their rocky terrain. We particularly like their Spiral blend and thjeir Syrah. Have enjoyed some of their produce also, namely their asparagus which we ate at New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro recently. Yum, yum!

We have been living in the Rogue Valley for 3 years. Finally made it on a self guided wine tasting tour in The Applegate as we had some folks visiting from out of town. Cowhorn was our first stop. It was interesting to learn about Biodynamic Farming, their wines were tasty and the woman in the tasting room was very knowledgeable about wine. Tasting room was open 10-5 and I think we showed up around 12:30. Did not seem like they were open for any special events. I did notice on their website that they indicate to call ahead and we did not do that. We basically tasted 3 wines and then left. They seemed to have trouble with their debit/credit card machine but it all worked out. If they were having an event of some kind I would probably come back.

Given that the few reviews are friends of Cowherd Winery I however am not and will be honest. The wine is good don't get me wrong. I am a US Marine Corp Veteran. I came in with friends and my family. Mind you I am disabled, clean cut, and very built. I have a licensed service dog in training for my disability. I was instantly approached and grabbed firmly on my shoulder by a staff member whom went on a tangent about not allowing dogs. after being profiled and humiliated I tried to politely interrupt and tell her that my service animal provides a service for my disability but the women continued to speak over me. I showed the women my license even though I legally did not have to. This women took offense and sought out the owner. The owner came and started screaming at me. He was very unprofessional and asked me to leave in front of my family and other patrons. The whole time this man had his fingers in his face. He wouldn't even let me speak. He told me not to come back. If this is how you treat Veterans and people with disabilities then I will gladly take my business elsewhere. I love this county. I fought for this country and its freedom all I ask is that you take my story into consideration before choosing a winery that discriminates against veterans and the disabled

This is the best winery in the Applegate Valley, without doubt. Based on their soils, they have chosen to specialize in Rhone varietals and that has been very wise. Their Spiral (a blend of Viognier, Marsanne, Roussane) was definitely the best balanced, most complex white wine we tasted in our weekend. Their syrahs are the only ones in the valley that are truly ripe, with full fruit flavor and the deep color typical of the varietal. As a bonus they are using no herbicides, pesticides, only natural fertilizers, and native yeasts. Josh in the tasting room was very informative, and owner Bill was very approachable and happy to talk about the vineyard.

Nice atmosphere, very limited seating. $15 per person for a four wine tasting is exorbitant, especially with no fresh glasses, no water, and no palette cleansing snacks. Wine was "meh". Bottle prices are too high. Not sure how they stay in business.

Wen't in for a tasting and was thoroughly impressed. After later visiting many other wineries in southern Oregon we confirmed that they had the best wines. What really set them apart was that every wine we tasted was good and no other place matched across the board taste. Give them a few more years and they will likely be known worldwide. Store a few away and it's an investment.
