The 35 Best Restaurants in Porto, Portugal | Eater

"Nuno Mendes, a London-based Portuguese chef with a prominent career abroad, is back in his native country to oversee his first-ever project in Porto, which has become one the the most sought-after seats in the city. Cozinha das Flores, nestled within Largo de São Domingos in Porto’s historic center, boasts an open-fire kitchen at the center of the room, turning out dishes rooted in northern Portuguese ingredients and inspired by local traditions. Mendes also serves creative takes on traditional Portuguese food, such as turnip pastéis de nata with caviar or a pão-de-ló (sponge cake) with shrimp. Know before you go: on weekdays, Mendes serves rich, pot-simmered Portuguese dishes for lunch." - Rafael Tonon

Last night I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant. From start to finish, the dining experience was impeccable. The level of thought and care that goes into everything, from the ambience, to the service, to the food, is above and beyond what you could expect. Everything was perfect, and I only wish I could wipe my memory and get to try it again for the first time. The lobster rice was the highlight for us, but the squid was phenomenal as well. Amazing wine recommendations as well. 10/10, and a special thank you to Sandra!

We couldn’t have chosen a better restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The team was extremely attentive and we felt very well taken care of. We loved the open kitchen and seeing the chefs work in a calm environment. Our favourites were the sweet prawn and steamed egg cake, the steak and the warm turnip green salad 🦐 🥩 🫜 Best steak we ever had 🙌🏼 Cocktails were amazing too and very unique

After numerous recommendations from friends and chefs alike, we've been meaning to visit Cozinha das Flores for a long time. After seeing the reviews, I decided to adjust my expectations. However, after having tasty cocktails, finding the interior design (especially the cooking area and the lighting) impressive, and being served the first starter (bulhão pato) I knew that our experience would exceed my expectations. We were very surprised by how balanced all the dishes were and that for once a Portuguese restaurant was not scared of serving dishes with a kick to it. The seafood rice with lobster was exceptional - among the best we've had in Porto - distinguished by its unique citrus notes. Out of, bulhão pato, turnip natas, smoked squid, local green asparagus, blue lobster wet rice and the salad as a side dish, the only under seasoned dish was the asparagus (it lacked salt). While the food deserves high praise, the service had inconsistencies. We experienced a somewhat chaotic approach without a dedicated server and faced lengthy waits for wine and our first course. However, the sommelier who assisted us was incredibly kind and single-handedly elevated our service experience. I'd highly recommend it for its outstanding culinary offerings, though it's worth adjusting service expectations.

Beautiful experience of an open kitchen concept. Food was very good thanks to the great recommendation from the staff. Its right in the central area so a perfect stopover from walking around porto. The rice was a great side dish. Loved it!

The food was absolutely incredible, the stew with chickpeas and cod stomach was phenomenal and the beef was some of the best I've ever had. The savoury ice cream for dessert was also really memorable. The service was a disaster though we asked for a wine pairing and our first course was going cold while we waited. And we needed to ask 3 times for the bread and butter we ordered. There were alot of staff so it was unclear why the service was so disorganised. The servers were all very pleasant but it seemed like no one was assigned to our table?

One of the best dining experiences I have had to date. The pork and fish were outstanding. The crab donuts and egg flan and the relish cocktail was pure delight.

I see some reviews mentioning poor service but I truly could not have had a better experience here. It was sublime, one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had. I went for lunch and recommend making a reservation close to their opening time. That might help with speed of service although honestly, it's a fine dining place in Portugal -- you're expected to take your time and they're not going to rush you. Had a great view of the open kitchen. Every host and server was knowledgeable, courteous, and relaxed, and they gave me great wine recommendations. I ate the spider crab donut, chickpea and cod tripe stew, john dory main dish, and berry sorbet/ice cream. It was some of the best food I've ever eaten. Fresh, flavorful, creative dishes I wouldn't have chosen anywhere else, nice portions so you didn't get too full, paced out just right, just perfect. It was definitely the expensive splurge meal of my trip, especially since so many restaurants in Porto are very cheap compared to the USA, but I think it was worth every penny and I'm so glad I treated myself and went. It felt like a very accessible, not uptight, and utterly enjoyable fine dining experience.

Great food and ambiance! But it takes a while between courses so schedule like a 2 hours meal. The asparagus and smoked red mullet is fantastic
