All the Major Chicago Area Restaurant Closures, Summer 2024 | Eater Chicago

"A suburban Oak Park breakfast staple at 138 N. Marion Street that had operated for 65 years will permanently close on Sunday, July 28, with owners citing the financial hit from the pandemic, rising rent, and $500,000 in unpaid taxes from a previous owner as untenable factors, though they say they are open to the possibility of returning in the future." - Ashok Selvam

We eat here from time to time. Weekdays are not too busy but weekends are packed. Food is consistent and service is good. We’ve never has bad service or food we didn’t like. Prices are fair.

Google
Cute local restaurant with a big menu of breakfast and lunch favorites, and weekly specials. I got the clam chowder which was delicious, thick with lots of clams and tender potatoes, and garnished with a little fresh parsley. I also had the boneless wings which were crisp and spicy.

Google
WE LOVED THIS DINER! Great service, great food (especially the in-house made bread), great vibe. We were just passing through, but it's clearly a local favorite (for good reason).

Google
Food was excellent. Came out fast, hot, and tasted great. Service was kind and attentive not to over bearing but checked in enough. Decor was dated but typical for a diner booth was tucked in tight in a corner but other than that the overall size and feel of the restaurant was great. Will definitely be returning for another Sunday family breakfast soon!

Google
Wonderful spot for a nice breakfast, always fast and friendly service. Quality food and great prices. I like the weekday breakfast deals too. The Challah French Toast is always great.

Google
The service and food are always top notch. They have the best home fries in the Killingly/ Danielson area

Yelp
Service was friendly. The food was ok, the hash wasn't that great. The eggs were cooked how I asked. The home fries have potential, they should be cooked a little more. Overall it's not bad, it was super hectic. I assume that's why it took a while to get our food but I will be back to try other things and ask for my home fries to be cooked more.

Yelp
Sadly the service and food the other day wasn't great. I've had good food there before, however, this time is was very bland. Additionally, the server we had was great, however, the older lady that seated us was very very grumpy and treated us like we were bothering her. They need to do better. We went away from there thinking we should just find a new breakfast place.

Yelp
Food is blah. The place is in desperate need of a makeover. But honestly it's what you can expect for most of the food choices in the general area.

Yelp
I'm not really sure if this place even exists anymore because it'll say open at 6:00 and then every time I try to call there they're not there and I go there and they're closed so it seems more like they're permanently closed unless they just keep running out of stuff super early and then closing up early but one way or another it's not easy to eat here even if they are open unless you're like one of the first ones there. Again if that's if you can find it open.

Yelp
Overall pretty the food is good the home fries are not my favorite. Definitely prefer going on the weekends only time you can get any benedict which is one of the breakfast items I usually get. The service is always great sweetest people even when in a packed house.

Yelp
Gross. I will never go here again after finding pieces of steel wool in my home fries. No thanks!

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch while driving out in the country and was totally surprised at the food quality and service. The pastrami ruebens we ordered have to go down as some of the very best we've had anywhere, they were just outstanding. Always order fries crispy and these were not only done perfectly but were extremely tasty. Our waitress was excellent, very efficient, friendly and helpful with a very engaging personality. This is a bonafide country hidden gem you won't want to miss if you find yourself in the area.

Yelp
I spent a lot of money at your place. But, after today, I will be spending my money somewhere else. All over a $2.50 fruit cup. My wife was not feeling the home fries so she asked for a substitute. The fruit cup sounded good. Once we get the bill we find out there was a $2.50 up charge. 1) if you're going to charge for a substitute don't you think the customer should be made aware ahead of time? 2) When the customer questions the up charge. It may be a good idea to not argue with the customer with a rotten attitude. 3) if the normal cost of the fruit was four dollars maybe that should've been explained ahead of time. She made it sound like the $2.50 was a good deal. I'm paying full price for the meal and $2.50 for a cup of fruit that wasn't much bigger than a Dixie cup. I was at your place 3 to 4 times a week. I guess I will be taking my business elsewhere. First job I ever had I was taught the customer is always right. I don't care if the customer is a douche. Your business will not survive without customers.

Yelp
Love this place! Wonderful family oriented breakfast spot. My husband and I have been coming here for about 5 years now and every time we are impressed with the amazing staff along with very short wait time if any and delicious food. Breakfast done right!

Yelp
Small portion of eggs, bacon was over cooked, was not a fan of the home fries w/peppers and not crispy. Standard toast. Price average. Staff was friendly.

Yelp
Cozy Corner is a lovely little restaurant that provides such a homey environment. Everyone greets you with a smile, coffee is never burned, and the food is definitely a large portion worth the low prices! Okay, now that I'm done sounding like a commercial for this establishment, I would like to say that this place has NEVER lead to dissatisfaction or disappointment in anyone I've brought here. You want a booth, you got it! A table? Sure thing! A breakfast sandwich with eggs and meat because cheese upsets your stomach? H*ll to the yeah, they got you covered. Every waitress or waiter seems to give a hoot about their customers satisfaction and that's the kind of business I love supporting. I will be coming back, obviously. And I should have reviewed it way earlier but I'm on a yelp kick right now lol.

Yelp
Great food Love their stuffed French toast Ample parking Ample seating Decent prices Recommend

Yelp
The service is always great here and is the reason we've returned- the last few trips haven't been the greatest in regards to the food. I've had hair in my pancake and onions in my French toast. I'm sure it's bound to happen on the griddle, but cleanliness can prevent that.

Yelp
We eat breakfast here once or twice a month and everything is always good. . Service has always been very good - we've had multiple waitresses and all have been polite and attentive in terms of providing coffee refills and whatnot.

Yelp
I love Cozy Corner for breakfast! Love Love Love. They make these lovely stuffed crepes with strawberries on them. These are delicious and I think they are a special but every time I've been there (usually on a Saturday or Sunday morning) - they are there and I devour them. Service has always been very good - we've had multiple waitresses and all have been polite and attentive in terms of providing coffee refills and whatnot. I can't speak for their lunch or dinner but for breakfast - one of the best places in the area.

Yelp
I have been in Plainfield ct for 12 years, and I have been to all the breakfast restaurants and Cozy corner is the best from the service to the food ,and its clean and they do not throw food at the customers, and the longest I have ever waited was maybe 45 mins and that is when it was very busy ,

Yelp
A nice greasy spoon diner in the middle of nowhere in northern CT. All food here is made fresh. I was here on an assignment for the week and came here every day for lunch. They have a really good beef and vegetable soup as well as these grinder sandwiches. I've tried most of them and it was very food. For breakfast, make sure you try their homemade cinnamon swirl French toast that they make from scratch. best of al, it is very affordable.

Yelp
Great breakfast. I wouldn't bother for lunch or dinner. Ages ago this was THE place to have breakfast. However with other options opening up the crowds aren't as plentiful here any more. But don't let that scare you off! Cozy Corner is still delicious. Their bread is yummy and the omlettes are big and full of fillings.

Yelp
Really Great Food. I was really impressed. It has the look of dinner inside with plastic table clothes and paper napkins but the food is great! Way more then I expected. The salad was made from all fresh veges and olives and the dressing, that is made by the chef and or owner, is delicious. It is a little more expensive then you would think based on the table settings and open dinner feel, but if you want cheaper food you can find that anywhere, this place is worth the cost ! Beer is less then you'd expect. under $4 a bottle. The service is perfect , the waitress has all the answers to any question about thing on or not on the menu and she was very pleasant . I cant wait to go back and try all the other things on the menu!

Yelp
Great breakfasts. Service outstanding! To bad we don't live nearby, but we'll come back when we're in the area.

Yelp
We decided to travel down a ways to Cozy Corner. We walked in and saw they were very busy. They did however seat us right away. So we say in our booth stuck in a corner for over 15 minutes before our waitress came over. We gave her our complete order seeing how we had already sat for a while. When she brought out drinks back about 5 minutes later we had politely stated we do not have silverware yet. She snapped and said it coming. Ok you are very busy here but WOW!! So jagger out two cups of coffee each we still don't have silverware. Fortunately we like our coffee black. We final your breakfast arrives. It practically get thrown down in front of us and again we stated we don't have silverware yet. So our waitress storms off came back and gave us our silverware. I don't know about you but I like my eggs hot. Not the case now!! We never saw our waitress after that until it was time for our bill. Which we had to flag her down because we had finished 5 minutes earlier. So disappointed for the 30 minute drive for cold eggs and lousy service. I am hopeful that it was just an off day for our waitress. I find it hard to fathom that this is the norm for how busy it was. Busy or not. No excuse for bad service. We will try again sometime and hopefully it will be worth the drive.
