How to Plan an Aspen Family Vacation, According to a Mom Who Did It

"Ice skating makes me feel like I'm 9 again, and as someone who loves to tap into her inner child –– and also share these moments with her children –– this is always a delight. If there is an ice rink in heaven, it will be modeled after Aspen's ice rink, complete with CP Burgers and chocolate milkshakes." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Milkshakes, Burgers and Fries Located across the street from Ruby Park Bus Station, CP Burger is the ultimate family destination. They serve burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and soft serve ice cream. For those that are gluten free they have my favorite, the ahi burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. I am sure the gluten-free option of a lettuce wrap is available for any of their burgers or hot dogs. Place your order and when it is ready they will call the name of the famous person, like Marilyn Monroe, that appears on your receipt. Like a 50’s diner, the food is served on a red cafeteria tray but believe me it doesn’t taste like cafeteria food. It is delicious! Burgers with a special sauce and spiked milkshakes for adults. While munching on your food occupy the kids with a game of mini-golf in the summer or ice skating in the winter, operated by CP Burger."

Showed up at 10:30 AM on a sunny Saturday in July to play mini golf—silly us for thinking a kid-friendly spot in Aspen might open before 11. CP Burger, the restaurant that runs the mini golf course out front (and turns it into an ice-skating rink in winter), apparently follows a strict no-fun-before-11 policy. Staff wouldn’t let us start even 10 minutes early. One was busy with her phone, the other enjoying breakfast. Must be a very strict yogurt-eating schedule. Once we finally got in ($12 per person, no kid rate), the course was falling apart—warped wood, loose boards, water damage. But hey, at least they’re consistent: poor service and poor maintenance. Definitely a highlight of our trip—if you enjoy paying to be treated like an inconvenience.

Google
Overpriced but I guess that’s the theme of aspen itself . Fries were too salty. Cold and hard falafels. Grilled cheese was too stiff. Tater torts are good. You will be spending a minimum of $20 per person if you need a meal. Meal sizes are small. Burgers sizes here would be what you get in a toddler’s menu in Texas. Over priced (did I say that) Not sure if aspen overall is overrated or is it just this place. People at the front desk were good though- no complaints

Google
Excellent burger and fries! Some may call it fast food but it definitely tasted fresh. Got the Chicano burger- deliciously spicy and hearty. Truffle fries were ok, felt like the Parmesan was lacking a little. Overall, a great experience. Love the idea of a mini golf connected to this- such a family friendly idea

Google
I visited CP Burger last week along with a couple of my friends. The place is located diagonally opposite Ruby Park Transit Center. The place has decent seating capacity and ambience. We ordered their Grilled Chicken Burgers along with CP Fries. Due to lunch time, the entire place was completely occupied, however we were lucky we got the seats. The service staff delivered our order in a blink. We were happy with their services. Coming to the taste section, the burger was awesome in taste however the CP Fries has scope to improve. Overall we had a great time here and would love to go back and try out other varieties of burgers. Cheers!

Google
What happened to this place?? CP burger used to be the go-to for a delicious burger at a reasonable price. The last time I had been here was a couple of years ago. The place must have been sold. Service was friendly enough but the food was terrible. Overcooked meat, terrible bread, not enough sauce. This is the worst burger I have eaten in a very long time. Extremely disappointing this place has turned to mud. PLEASE do not come here

Google
Burger and fries tasted good but the burger may have been a little under done and their soda dispensers were not all working correctly. The grilled cheese was seasoned great. The workers were super nice and helpful. The place was clean.

Google
Wonderful food that was expensive relative to a fast food chain but the food is so good you're not upset about it. High quality all around. The kids meals are plenty big for an adult.

Google
I went in to CP Burger on 4/25/2025 craving red meat so badly the girl at the cash register was really nice that's why I am giving two stars instead of one. I ordered a CP Burger and the bread was so old and stale it crumbled and what did not crumble was so hard I couldn't even bite it, the burger itself was poorly cooked burnt on the outside and red in the middle. And when I got my food to go and one the cooks came out looked at me laughed said something to the other cooks in Spanish and they all laughed at me, I will never eat there again and I was so disappointed in the burger because I was craving red meat....what a let down

Yelp
A standard American burger and fries place. At least that's all we order. Burgers. Fries. Pretty simple. Sadly, not every fast foodery gets the simplicity. The food should always be consistent and at CP, it is. More impressive is the speed in which they turn orders. Having my food ready ten minutes after an order is placed is what I call precision take-out. Well done. :)

Yelp
We were looking for a quick place to have dinner and came across CP Burger. It started pouring outside so we just rushed in for dinner. We ordered Falafel burger as that was the only vegetarian option, sweet potatoes fries and strawberry milkshake. The falafel burger was good but the falafel patty was a bit dry so eating the burger was difficult. It needed some more sauce with it. The strawberry milkshake was very good and so were the fries. Overall, it was also reasonably priced so worked out for our group.

Yelp
$55 for two burgers, fries, and soft drinks. My burger was OK and my friend's tuna burger he said wasn't very good. No service, self pickup and they didn't call out when it was ready. Fries not hit. Terrible lunch again and expensive. I will never be back.

Yelp
On the first day after my husband went snowboarding and I wandered around the town, we met up at this little burger place next to a skating rink. We split a chicken burger and sweet potato fries. And it was the perfect amount to satisfy our hunger but not be overly full. There aren't many affordable places to eat in the area so this was perfect for a lunch.
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
Best burgers in Colorado hands down. Cannot believe this place has only 1 location! They must hand pick the meat for the burgers
google avatar

Alan K.

Yelp
Food was great, we did ask for burgers well done since other reviews said to be under cooked which was a good choice. Fries were perfect. Soda machine was broken so we had to order more expensive bottled sodas. They charged us 25% fee because we were a group of six persons 4 were kids - Why - Seriously 25% service fee for ordering fast food take out? Then also requested additional tip at checkout.
google avatar

Paulina M.

Yelp
This place is always busy. Come early to grab a seat outside. The burgers and shakes are amazing.
google avatar

Bob E.

Yelp
You're paying Aspen prices for mediocrity. Burger was meh, hot dog was lukewarm, and beer was room temperature. The mini golf course is dilapidated - everything that is motorized is broken. And the best part - any charge over $60 they will automatically add a 20% gratuity. Who does that? For take-out? MAYBE high end restaurants - but it's publicized. It's B.S.
google avatar

Cindy R.

Yelp
Great spot for a quick bite. We've been here twice, had burgers and hotdogs along with fries. They also serve beer. Great location and nice outdoor patio. Definitely recommend for a quick simple meal!

Yelp
This review is as biased as it can be. You have been warned. Generally speaking, I think Aspen is overrated but this burger joint just hit all the sweet spots on the day my friend and I decided to drop in. It was a Christmas Day, it had food and it was open. All businesses in Glenwood Springs were closed for example. We didn't have a plan and improvised, so getting some fat/carb/protein calories helped a lot. They were blazingly fast with our order. It had a skating rink sitting right there and I got to skate. The outside seating had charming views and a great atmosphere. Now this is what sucked. The burger tasted super raw and I sensed the smell of blood. I like my burger medium rare but that wasn't it. Didn't care for the fries either. It was super crowded inside, had to forge my way through the customers waiting in a tiny room for their order all the way to the register.

August W.

Yelp
The burgers where overcooked. you cannot ask them for a rare or medium rare. cause that s not the way they cook them. The tuna sandwich was not good as usual. flavorless. Im not sure if the owner's changed but the food was not good at all. and the prices are high. My son loved only his milk shake. I don t recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered the CP Burger and tater tots with the Parmesan truffle seasoning. The burger patty itself was very good. It was really thick and juicy and still well cooked. The cp sauce was like any other secret sauce - probably some combination of ketchup and mayo and some other sauces. The bun was not good. It was Avery basic dry bun. The burger would be greatly improved if it had been in a potato bun or brioche. The tater tots were good but the seasoning wasn't as strong or flavorful as I was hoping. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Store was clean and bright.
google avatar

Mell B.

Yelp
Delicious, juicy & huge burgers and truffle fries. Only complaint is the bun falling apart. Nice location indoor & outdoor in front of ice skating rink with nice mountain view. Staff friendly.

John B.

Yelp
Look all I'm saying is the sauce they use on the burgers are a little suspicious, tasted rather funky to me. The service is good but there was a distinct smell coming from one of the customers, although I know there is nothing they can do about that it was just stinky... PU! Anyways the burger was high key buns (as in bad). Would like to see a little more effort into the burgers. Anyways thought it give a little review as I do! - JB out

Yelp
I am vegan and found it a bit difficult to eat in Aspen. Was pleased to see that CP Burger offered a falafel burger versus a beyond burger (gross). Burger was great and so were the sweet potato fries. My fiancé had the summit burger and CP fries...which he said were great as well. Oh...and he loved the chocolate milkshake. Staff was so friendly and food came out hot and fast. Thank you CP Burger for a great meal and experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing burgers, fries, AND shakes! Service was also great and very quick. We came here after a hike so we were starving and this was just what we needed. It did cost $35 for a burger, fires, and shake... but I guess it is Aspen...
google avatar

Yelp
CP burger is always a good bet. Good food. Adult milkshakes that are delish and they seem like they are always open

Yelp
I'm born and raised in aspen and have been coming here since it opened. I am also vegetarian - CP burger has one veggie option on their menu besides salads and it's the falafel burger. It's good. It's not great. There's no veggie hot dog. I just got back from South Africa - I was there for 3 months and had the MOST insane veggie burgers of my life. Everywhere. In a much more meaty country than the US. Burgers that changed everything I thought about what a burger could be. Even my heavily meat forward friends chose the veggie burgers off the menu because they're that good. Some of the best were : halloumi burger with tomato, pickles, guacamole, sweet chili sauce, onions, and onions rings. On brioche. Absolutely fire. Another one was a lentil mushroom patty smothered in a grand Mariner aioli and lettuce and picked onions. Also fire. I feel like the Slutty Vegan is the only burger place in the US that makes veggie burgers everyone wants to eat. Writing this long review to maybe inspire some people / chefs to branch out for not only veg heads but everyone. There's a world of flavor out there. Let's not be basic. The shakes here are awesome.

Yelp
Trying to find a place in Aspen that wouldn't cost 2 people $80 to have a basic meal. This wasn't it . Me and my wife were in Aspen for our 30th wedding anniversary and being the avid John Denver fan that I have always been, my wife thought it would be nice to be here and explore, and definitely see the John Denver sanctuary. We came to CP Burger based on other reviews but obviously missed the "this ain't no cheaper than anything else" part. Cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, 2 orders of fries and 2 milk shakes. Almost 80 dollars!! And the kicker, the main part of this whole issue, is the 20%"service fee" they added on for, I don't know, doing their jobs of taking our orders, and cooking our food?? Thanks but no thanks. .

Yelp
Awful service, food quality was mediocre at best ! I ordered 2 burgers to go and they charged us 20% gratuity? Why?? I talked to the manager regarding the gratuity charged, he stated "this is how we do our business"
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Nestled away next to the ice skating ring under the Hyatt Aslen you will find the cutest little burger and shake shack providing hefty burgers at a price locals can afford! Great food and and friendly staff

Richard C.

Yelp
They totally messed up our order - forgot to include fries and lettuce and tomatoes. Additionally they served us a 1/2 done raw burger. i couldn't eat the whole burger.
google avatar

Madeline D.

Yelp
Ten times better than the $40 burgers you find at all of the restaurants here. Sweet potato fries are also delicious. One of the most delicious and definitely the cheapest meal you can find in aspen.

Irving F.

Yelp
After two years, I gave them another chance. Still below par. Grilled chicken sandwich was slapped together and a real mess when unwrapping it. The chicken breast was about 3oz and covered 2/3 of the bun. I know Aspen prices are crazy but this is a kids fast food place. $26.70 before tip for chicken sandwich and fries. No drink. Not a good value for below average food.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Got the falafel burger - I think they may have forgotten the tzatziki sauce because it was pretty dry. It was a fun change from a standard veggie burger though! The regular fries were thin and salty and but not soggy. My boyfriend got a regular burger with bacon and enjoyed it. The chocolate shake was a bit thick for a straw and could've been more chocolate-y but can't go wrong with any kind of shake in my mind. Prices were pretty reasonable for Aspen too! Lots of outdoor seating.
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
The food was just okay, not great. The burger patty was very thick, more like a large unseasoned meatball. The tater tots and my boyfriend's truffle fries were very nice and fresh though. I really did not appreciate how the staff started end of day cleaning (including vacuuming right next to our table) well before they actually were going to close. This was prime dinner time (around 6:00), so not exactly the most welcoming. The last nail in the coffin is that they were unironically playing kidz bop, of all things, for music.
google avatar

Veronica K.

Yelp
Burgers & fries were fresh. The environment was casual or ski wear, easy to locate, outdoor setting
google avatar

Harold S.

Yelp
I recently stopped in this place for lunch while visiting Aspen. Most of the places in Aspen are quite expensive, and if all you want is an inexpensive lunch, this is definitely the place. It's conveniently located in the center of town right at the base of the gondola ride. I ordered the CP burger which goes for $7.95. The hamburger appeared somewhat small, but I realized it was just on a small bun. There was actually a very thick burger patty inside, so it was definitely worth the money.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Fav spot to stop in Aspen! Their summit burger is godly - probably my favorite burger in the state! There's a boozy milkshake menu if you're trying to get down, and delicious truffle fries, sweet potato fries, tots as sides if the munchies have taken over. Give this place a shot if you're looking for a quick burger (they also have tuna and falafel burgers) with a great view. Ski slopes are in view when you sit outside and there's a roller skate rink you can have some fun on after a boozy milkshake.

j m.

Yelp
The falafel burger didn't come with tzatziki, as advertised, and that made it incredibly dry, bordeline inedible. The hummus was also too thick and then made the sandwich even more dry. Even the cucumbers had the moisture sucked out of them... The tots were fine?
google avatar

Valerie M.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much when you walk by but we were hangry. The kids loved their burger as did I. We went in for a second time today and I got the Chicano "Fire" burger and Parmesan truffle fries. Delicious!!! We also tried the shakes which were also on point. The staff is very friendly and welcoming too. 15 out of 10, would recommend!
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
3.5 bars This is a good spot for the kids--hot dogs, grilled cheese, and shakes were all a hit with the young ones. The grownup food ranged from ok to good. The good: the ahi tuna burger was a nice alternative to a traditional beef burger and the crispy lettuce wrap is a great option to cut out the white bread. The ok: the falafel burger was fine but nothing great, and on the blander side. I much prefer the house veggie burger from Sure Thing Burger in basalt. On the fried sides: opt for the tater tots over the fries.
google avatar

Fred M.

Yelp
Pretty reasonable price wise. Fast service. They give your order the names of celebrities so when they call for your pickup you can't help but look around. Oh and the burgers were pretty good too!
google avatar

Sara P.

Yelp
Great experience! We got to sit outside and enjoy amazing burgers at the bottom of the mountain. I loved the tots! Super Wilco was well which is what we were looking for. And Buddy was allowed to sit outside too!
google avatar

Maureen P.

Yelp
Love this place so much! I am gluten + dairy free and CP Burger was the meal of my dreams! The staff was beyond friendly and helpful with ingredients. Our food was ready quickly and it was SO GOOD. While other restaurants nearby were out of gluten-free crusts, closed, or only offered vegan OR gluten-free.... CP Burger was there for us. So much so that we have been there two days in a row. Affordable, delicious, respectful of food restrictions
google avatar

Eddie Z.

Yelp
Had the falafel burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was the only vegan option, and it was pretty good - couldn't go with the tzatziki sauce though. OK pricing but affordable for aspen standards! Fries were great. Big area for outdoor seating, and they have a roller blade rink!

Luca B.

Yelp
It is okay. Hot dogs might be made out of pig hooves and crab seamen. But it slaps. The people are nice. The restaurant is clean and calm
google avatar

Amiel C.

Yelp
I give tuna burger 4 stars, considering it's a fast-food joint, it was very good. Wagyu hotdog was ok. Tater tots was just tater tots.. but the tuna burger was really good!

Fabian E.

Yelp
Burgers are decent if you like rare meat as your burger this is the place for you Service wasn't that grate they don't call you by your name when the order is read which is weird asked for no onion and got extra onions.
google avatar

Dianna B.

Yelp
Was in Aspen on a work trip and this burger place happens to be right in front of the hotel I was staying it so I decided to give it a try. Long story short I didn't really like the chicken burger, they way the cheese was melted on it I didn't like it , it reminded me of plastic i literally took two bites and couldn't do it I also got but the parmesan fries which were pretty good, I didn't get a chance to try the "spiked" milkshakes they looked pretty good but other than that.... it was okay I guess.
google avatar

Won Y.

Yelp
We enjoyed this hamburger joint. The meat was fresh and chewy. The location was excellent in the upper middle part of Aspen next to ice link ( not in season). We were fortune to find a chair right across the link looking over the city.
google avatar

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
Tasty novelty burger place. I got the tuna burger, which was fully cooked. I expected it to be more like a seared tuna steak, however, this did not detract from its dynamic construction and ingredients. Side of truffle fries- not the best I've ever had, but had lots of spices and I ate them all. Had a spiked adult root beer float and thoroughly enjoyed it. It did not taste like it contained any alcohol, which adds to its appeal. I wish there was a non-dairy option, but this was worth the sacrifice on my digestion. All of this deliciousness came at a cost- about $30 for one person. Overall, I recommend this place.

J F.

Yelp
I just got a chocolate milkshake, and it was pretty good, but the prices have definitely gone up and it just wasn't worth the 9$

Hy C.

Yelp
Consistently good, fast and affordable. Food is excellent for what it is. Not the best restaurant in town not even by a long shot Buy best quick burger and perfect location in the heart of town

Scott K.

Yelp
Burger was very, very, very DRY. Fries were good. Location good and prices not too unreasonable given it's aspen. But seriously how hard is it to just copy a smash burger like what shakeshack has? This is probably the driest and most unsatisfying burger I have ever eaten. I gave most of it to my dog.
google avatar

Jenny E.

Yelp
Nice spot and food is fine - but we paid a $100+ for food and golf and my 2.5 year old who'd never played mini golf before threw his ball in the 18th hole and lost it five minutes in. I asked if we could get him another ball and was told we'd have to pay for another round. I get that that's how mini golf works - but you can't make an exception for a two year old?

Yelp
Ok, so went w/the hubs to Breck for a meeting then a 2nd one at Aspen, Aug 22, 2013. I'm really not a fan at all of aspen or their places to eat. Maybe 2 places over 3 yrs ago were at best worth my money and time. So my hub's said this place had good burgers, though he ended up down playing it when we were near here. I'm not so much picky as where I just know what a burger should taste like and if it's worth the price. Well this place is not Worth the price nor is it delicious. Their burgers are small and decent but not worth it at all. Lark burger blows this place out of the water for sure! lo down: Summit Burger- not worth it, flavorless meat and only had the blue cheese taste. All burgers are cooked the same and it's small like a jr burger. It looks plump and fat, but that's because it's like my hand making a "c" cup shape. Chican burger- Only tasted the green chili's and no flavor, I had to add salt. Truffle fries- these were by far the NASTIEST tasting fries ever!! They tasted burnt and looked dehydrated. I couldn't really taste any truffle and even with a lot of salt on the fried, it tasted like I was eating ashes! NASTY!! Sweet potato fries- I'm not usually a fan of sweet fries, but these were the best by far and I ate these, mainly to get all the burnt taste out. Kale salad- Okay it was hearty, but flavorless.. I make mine much better with sliver of the salad almond toppings, truffle olive oil, hawaiian salt and lemon. For almost 9 bucks, who could by my ingredients for less and have more than 2 servings. Soo not worth it! I mean why is everyone raving about this stuff, when kale salads been out and in stores over years especially in vegas. Best part was character names and that was it.. Would I go back to this place? Heck no! I rather pay much more and eat at better places or even room service in my hotel.. Heck I rather eat Mickey d's!!!
google avatar

Terry A.

Yelp
Well... I used to come here fairly often (4-5 times a month) and thought they had one of the best burgers in town, albeit quiet expensive. But hey that's Aspen. However, if you're paying a premium price for a burger you should get a premium experience and at the very least a quality piece of meat. The last two times I visited (late summer 2018) the burger was sloppily put together and the VERY last time I will ever step foot here the meat was tainted - I took a couple bites and threw the rest away. Either the manager is falling down on the job and allowing tainted meat to be served or something else has gone amiss in the kitchen. Lost a local customer (or two), literally leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Unacceptable

Yelp
Great hangout place with mountain view. They offer mini golf and few other games. There were lot of kids having fun with their friends and family. I have been there with my friends, we tried the falafel burger and chicken sandwich with truffle fries. Everything tasted great. Beware of the falafel size, its huge and fills your stomach fast!!
