Had such a great time here with a group of three! The drinks were all solid in price. They have a bunch of different beer shot options that are $8 to $10. Also got a mango Bellini, which was so freaking good. For food, we got fries, mozzarella sticks, a burger, chicken nachos, and chicken Tinga tacos. All solid food options. The star of the place though is the service. The place was really busy, but we always felt taken care of. excited to go back for trivia night on Tuesdays.

Excellent Caesar salad and fried chicken sandwich! Super reasonable prices for both food and drinks and great vibes all around.

Lovely little bar. Our server Kendrick took good care of us and was hilarious to boot. Decently-priced drinks including a few $3-$5 cans. Tasty food, particularly the juicy pineapple habanero wing special. Ideal for a drink and snack after a summer swim at Kosciuszko.

Be aware that they charge you an extra 20% automatic gratuity on your check. The food has 20% already added and then on your check they hope you don’t notice the extra 20% automatic gratuity add. Really weird. 1 drink and a house salad with protein cost $45.00. Sad that they try to pull this stunt… because the place is quite good.

The good - service, and nice people. As for the rest - For this price… nah, food’s not worth the $. overpriced. Lemonade - from the bottle.. coke was flat, ran out of amaretto.. wings are barely mediocre, burger is maybe worth $6-7. fries are ok.. but for food served in baskets, and slow service (due to being understaffed) I feel it’s a lil unjustified 20% automated gratuity.. not even sure that’s legal.. but didn’t say anything cause we tip 20% anyhow.. At this price point - go to Brooklyn Public House, much more bang for your buck… 🤷‍♀️

Basically the best bar I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing friendly staff, even that bathrooms are amazing. Whether im there in the morning or the evening the consistency is consistently consistent!! I love you Captain Dan. I’m a Captain Dan Man!

Probably the swankiest, weirdest little spot in Brooklyn. First off, Captain Dan is the dog—so let’s start there. The dog is memorialized, almost canonized, in paintings throughout the entire place. If he were a real dog, I swear I’d have hair in my mouth. It started off feeling like a house of curiosities and somehow evolved into a full-fledged place you’ll never want to leave—until they make you. The crowd, the bartenders, and the servers were impeccable. They have a drink special listed on the wall. My friend ordered one with bananas. I cringed at first—“Ew”—until I tasted it. It was a delightful, summery splash of a drink. Sneaks up on you too. That’s what a seasoned drinker says after his fourth: “It snuck up on me.” A group of women sat outside and totally captured my attention. Their energy was so magnetic, I ran out, introduced myself, and took their picture. So if you’re looking for a bar with a heartbeat—and the portrait of its namesake greeting you at every turn (ruff ruff)—then this is your place. And yes, I am this dramatic in real life too.

Really enjoyed this place, it looked dark from the outside but the interior has a lot going on. The walls are covered in pictures, sat at the window’ looking out at the small and full exterior garden /space. Staff were friendly and working hard. It was good to be back in New York.

I'm torn about this place - mainly bc of the prices. Although this is a dive bar, the food is above average for sure, & they make good buffalo wings. They also sometimes have really amazingly great music, they play Bird & Miles @ heavy metal volume. It's clean inside, & the staff are super nice. Most importantly - they open at noon for lunch, which is now rare in much of Brooklyn, where most bars / pubs don't open until 4pm. Just b/c they are warm & welcoming & open at lunch, I want to give them 4 stars, but the sticker shock brings it down to 3. Also, I always tip 20%, but it's not cool that they add a 20% tip onto your bill automatically.

I'd walked by Captain Dan's a few times and finally decided to give it a try with a few friends on Saturday night. First thing we noticed was the decor - very fun, tropical vibe. Lots of paintings of parrots and dogs on the walls. We got seated at one of the high tops pretty quickly. Captain Dan's has a great menu - lots of cheap beer and drink options, and the food menu features "elevated" takes on classic bar food like sandwiches and fried food. APPS: We ordered their loaded nachos and fried pickles. Both were delicious, although I thought the fried pickles were a bit pricy. DRINKS: We loved their frozen Lambrusco drink. Highly recommend! MAIN DISHES: Fried Chicken Sandwich: Crispy, juicy, and the salad was actually pretty complex and delicious. Cheesesteak Dip Sandwich: The bread was phenomenal, and the sandwich was meaty and cheesy. Fries were really good. If you ask for aioli they'll just give you Mayo. Buffalo Chicken Sandwich: Spicy, wouldn't recommend for most people. My only criticism is that it took about 45 minutes for our food to come out. It's pretty clear that the kitchen is understaffed and our waitress mentioned that the kitchen was backed up. I'm glad we tried Captain Dan's and I can see us coming back soon.

Good time? More like a great time! Captain Dan's s a cute spot located right on the corner of Greene and Nostrand. It's not the largest, but they make most with the space they got and have seating outside. The bar goes way down till the kitchen and who doesn't want to smell the delicious things they are cooking? Speaking of which, this is premier bar food. They have classics like a burger, but have some funky innovative stuff on there too. Please bring back the spicy eggplant dip. The tap selection isn't the largest, but they have a wide array of cans/bottles. The cocktails are on point. Did I mentioned they got frozen drinks? Dan's, simply put, is a super chill spot to hang with friends.

As a self-respecting, self-loving hedonist, I am constantly on a mission to find the best bar food in New York City. Few things are more pleasurable than good company, a cold beer, and some well executed bar food. Captain Dan has a monopoly on bar food. It's indulgent, delicious, and worth going back for. The portions are massive, so I recommend sharing.

I had the bacon and blue cheeseburger with fries and it was amazing! Had one of the specialty cocktails (something with lemonade...forgot) and it hit the spot. Bartender/staff were attentive and friendly. Loved the ambiance, music, location, etc. Will definitely be back!

I have walked by this bar a million times, always with my dogs in-tow on the way to the dog run around the corner. Finally was dog-free and able to check it out! Got a fantastic Bloody Maria and my friend got some kind of blueberry-esque cocktail. Both fantastic and damn was that a heavy pour! Can't believe I was feeling so good after one drink! We had just eaten so sadly didn't get to try any of the food but damn, I love an elevated bar food menu. That wedge salad is calling my name! Super friendly proprietor and the bartender lady was nice and gave off cool, mellow vibes. I would love to come back soon and try the food! Great neighborhood spot. Please open one in Clinton Hill! First time visitor , but will become a regular . Location is great, ambiance simple , great drinks , good food. Service from our bartender Nicole amazing !! Definitely try their Coquito and their Lemon Pepper Wings !!

The place is cool and the food was pretty good (which is why I didn't go with one star) The service was not good, I went on a Wednesday night so it wasn't even that busy. I sat at the bar and waited for at least 10-15 minutes to get my drink order taken when the drink came and it was bad. Then when I was paying, the bartender didn't print my check just told me the total - which seemed high - but I handed over my CC anyway. They brought over an iPad for me to complete my transaction including a tip. I then had a receipt printed to find out that there was already a 20% automatic gratuity, which is very strange for a single bar patron AND not to let me know before cashing me out. I just left rather than making a big deal out of it but think others should know of this practice.

I loved captain dans to the point I don't want to review it because I don't want more people to know about it. Solid vibe. Great bar food, fills up around 9-10. All around great time. Go for a chill to dive bar vibe.

Went for a late dinner and drinks a few weeks ago around 11. Woke up at 7 with a horrible case of food poising. I got the nachos and popcorn chicken. Was really excited to try this place but will never return again. Drinks where decent but STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD!!!!

Not a great time but a good time. It's Ok. The service here is amazing so don't forget to tip your servers. Everyone works hard. But the food is so completely average. If you're hungry you will leave filled. But you might find it hard to thing of a reason to purposely come back for the food. Everyone I was with seem to love to come for a few beer and chicken type of vibe. Decent place for a togo burger. It's ok!

Captain Dan's is a great spot whether you want a drink or to grab a bite. Really chill vibe and friendly staff, nothing too fancy but a nice place to hang or get a late night bite. Specifically their loaded fries with cheese, bacon and onions; after a night of drinking it's the perfect thing to share. They also do a good brunch, menu changes and they have a lot of specials but I have always enjoyed my meal!

Great spot for lunch. Lively & fun. Lots of cool bird pictures - parrots & such. Ambience is great. Spice sausage PoBoy sandwich, veggie burger and wedge salad. I had the PoBoy without the bread. Very good. Service was very good. Our server was attentive & nice.

From the people who brought you Anchored Inn welcome Captain Dan's "Good Time" Tavern. Since this is the new kid on the block, everyone was there for the meet and greet. I didn't realize how thirsty Bed-Stuy was. This place has a long bar from the entrance to the end. There are some 4 seater tall tables along the wall. A great selection of beers, song titled cocktails and frozen drinks. There are also some nibbles and noshes to soak up the alcohol. Thank gawd the kitchen is now open. It was too crazy this night to order grub but nothing better than a bar with food to soak up the booze! I like the simple decor of velvet painted birds and all the gorgeous wall paper selection in the bar from flamingos, to eyes to even more birds. There is definitely a tropical bird theme here. A great spot to grab a drink with a few friends or solo. I like the vibe here and it's a quick ride back to Bushwick. Bed-Stuy get ready to be discovered by this little Yelper!

Came here on a Saturday for brunch around 11am ish. I don't know if it was the heat or something but we were the only ones there. Service was good, dude seemed chill and brought everything out quickly. The inside has fun paintings and plenty of room at the bar. They offered us a brunch menu for the weekend but also served their standard weekday menu as well. They serve delicious southern comfort food so just beware the food coma that follows. I got the biscuits and gravy which comes with two biscuits smothered with a sausage gravy and two sunny side up eggs on top. I'm not going to lie, I'm not a big gravy fan since I never ate it growing up but the gravy just had so much flavor and the bits of sausage in the gravy just made it that much better. The eggs were just the right amount of runny and all together was surprisingly filling. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles which was just as good. It came with a half waffle, fried chicken covered in gravy, and the other half waffle on top. There is a small container of honey butter on the side and the waiter also brought out a small thing of maple syrup for those who like it extra sweet. The breading of the chicken was crispy despite the gravy covering it and the meal was super filling as well. Also all together, the biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles, and an orange juice totaled to about $25 so for the price and the wait time for a Saturday brunch it really can't be beat! Would definitely come here again for brunch and would love to check it out during the weekday as well!

Without a doubt, this is my favorite place to go to in Brooklyn! If you're looking for a great bar to go to in the Bedstuy area on a weeknight & especially the weekend, LOOK NO FURTHER. Captain Dan's has an awesome vibe there - great people, great food, and the immaculate bartenders: Cali and Jules. I recommend the getting the salt & pepper fries just to try (FYI: they're amazing). If you're a little more hungry, I recommended the chicken sandwich (comes fried) or the double cheeseburger (I recommend you add bacon to each). In all actuality, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I've been coming here almost every weekend since I found the place last November. One of the great things is that you can go out and still come here at the end of the night because it doesn't close until 4am on weekends. Probably the main thing that has me coming back in the manager at night on weekends, Mike. This guy does EVERYTHING! From checking every single person's identification, bussing tables, taking care of any hiccups, ensuring the safety of everyone in the bar, and being extremely friendly and accommodating to whatever you need. Having superb customer service like that is hard to come by, especially at a local bar. Mike is definitely the face of Captain Dan's to me and all my friends that I continue to bring here. All in all, you won't go wrong coming here. I guarantee if you come here once, you'll be back.

I came here on a date a few weeks ago. The bartender felt obliged to interrupt our conversation to say that our conversation was offensive and that "there are some things that shouldn't be joked about." I engaged her in a discussion of the matter, and she ended the convo by insulting my family and walking away. Needless to say, we left immediately and won't be back. It's a shame because my date recommended the place and we'd planned on staying for more drinks. Made me also wonder how many convos she interrupts like this when she feels entitled to do so. Unless you want to look over your shoulder for your convo being chaperoned, stay away. (FWIW, the interior of the bar is nice.)

+++ - Hamburger is all that ++ - Fried chicken sandwich is a close second to being all that - Large chickpea salad was pretty large + - staff gives good suggestions - great and well made drinks *I enjoyed the pina colada with absynthe and hot apple cider (They ran out around 10:30pm) - really good 'bar' food ' +/- - I would have liked more than on tv - it was pretty packed for a warm weather thursday around 9pm - - I expected more from the salt n pepper fries, but the buttermilk ranch sauce is great

This place is incredible. Great food and drinks! Also it is completely ADA, accessible. I recently broke my ankle and am navigating NYC on a knee scooter. They have outdoor seating and a nice wheelchair ramp. Thanks for taking such great care of me!

Solid neighborhood bar with a southern-lite food menu and awesome kitschy decor. They have outdoor seating that is dog-friendly and recently put in a wheelchair ramp, which are pluses. This is the bar I come to when I want a low-key Bud or Tecate and a giant pretzel and I always leave satisfied. But who wouldn't after seeing multiple velvet corgi paintings?

This place is ok. I visited the bar during a weekend trip to Brooklyn with a buddy from the UK. We only went here because his name was Dan - no other reason. The beers tasted like beer (so that's a plus) and their hot wings were decent. The service was pretty blah and if given the chance to drink and eat wings anywhere else, I would probably take that option. However, if you are in area and you want some decent wings and a beer, your options are limited so come on down to captain Dan's. Side note: Restaurant was comfortable and lively and bathrooms were clean.

Best decision I've made today! I was walking in this cold in Bed Stuy desperately looking for someone with outlets and happy hour because phone was dead and it was too cold. I am so glad to have found this gem! It's nothing but outlets all over the place. The bartender is so nice. She allowed me to order my drink at happy hour price because it was about 10 mins to happy hour and she did the right thing because I love me a good happy hour and I'm here to stay. The fries are amazing. The music is so chill and so Brooklyn (oldschool hiphop) I just fell in love with the place just now. I love that they have gender neutral bathrooms and a mixed crowd. Not too crowded on a Friday evening but still steady and live!

Great place for a date! Checked out this place with about 5 friends...,and it's spacious enough for large groups. Food = 9 I got the Smothered Beacon Cheese Fries = 9 Very delicious. Ambiance = 7 On a Sunday, very chilling, and not to loud. Waitress and Staff = 6.8 I got my food without utensils. And she never checked back, until I called her. I would go back, it's a nice Brooklyn spot!

Get. The. Burger. After a friend from out of town raved about it I decided to give it a shot and there is no turning back now. Hands down no other burger will grant this satisfaction. Juicy, flavorful & down right excellent. It's a perfect rendition of the Big Mac IMO, 2 mid sized patties, cheese, grilled onions, sauce and crisp, fresh in-house pickles. Kitchen opens until 3am so it will absolutely satisfy that late night craving

Disclaimer: I haven't tried to food here yet. BUT - in terms of atmosphere, service, selection - this place is 5 stars.

My favorite bar in the city and my go-to neighborhood spot! I have no complaints - the decor is fun (especially the corgis), food is always delicious no matter what I've ordered (the chicken and waffle on their weekend brunch menu is the best meal I've had in NYC to date - buttery crisp waffle with perfectly cooked juicy chicken and well seasoned sausage gravy), the drink selection is excellent (my favorite is the Southern Tier Cherry Crush beer, which I can't help but order everytime), service is great, and prices are affordable. You can comfortably have a conversation without it being too loud, and can sit at the bar or a table indoors/outdoors. I first discovered the bar because it's down the block from my laundromat, and stopping by Captain Dan's for a Blue Motorcycle (a blue long island iced tea) definitely takes the dreaded edge off getting weekend chores done. All in all, I can't say enough about this place. Definitely check it out!

I've been here at least a dozen times because it's a few blocks from my place. The decor is pretty cute but everything else is just...okay...which surprises me because I love their other bar, "Anchored Inn". The service is especially terrible. If the service was decent, I think this spot would actually be great. But, paying for overpriced everything, feeling unwelcome, ignored, and sometimes rushed, doesn't make for a particularly great experience. The food is pretty expensive for what it is - chicken sandwich reminds me of the 'chicken patties' I used to eat in middle school. With all this being said, I have to ask myself why I even bother...oh well.

First time here 4/27/18 I've been wanting to go here for the longest every time we drive by here it always seem like a live place to be and it's two blocks away from my home,we got there a little after 3 AM I know its late but we had been to three other places before coming here and since it's on the way home why not?not too many people was there I guess because it was close to closing,the bartender was nice and friendly a had a margarita and I forgot what he had we enjoyed the short time we was there,we will definitely go again

This place is a block from my home. It's become on of our designated spots for when I don't want to cook for the spouse or we need a quick after work drink with ambience. We've only had the wings, but they are great. And, the drinks are strong. The drinks are a little pricey, but it is a gentrified hipster spot. So, unfortunately, it comes with the territory. But, I'm gonna def need the hipster, bearded cook to wear a damn beard net. Like really, bro? So, 4 stars because of my concern for health and hygiene. The Black waitress with the locs is dope. She is attentive without being annoying, and she is super knowledgeable of the menu.

The decor in this tavern is gorgeous. I love the velvet paintings or maybe something about corgis that brings out a smile every time I see one. The wall design wasn't a wallpaper but with the many eyes painted on them which gave me goosebumps. I enjoyed my beer and burger for brunch.

Had a great brunch here on Sunday. My biscuits and gravy were fantastic: very savory and peppery, with two eggs on top. Very hearty for $12. The draft cold brew was some of the best I've had in a while (bit of a coffee hound here!). My one criticism was I didn't see an option to buy separate sides like bacon, eggs, etc. I would appreciate the extra options, especially for some of the smaller dishes.

I've been there twice so far and totally forgot what I ate but the vibe was really nice as was the food. A total Brooklyn experience!!! You'll love it!

My go to bar in the neighborhood, such a great spot for food and drink. It's best when it's nice out and you can score a seat next to the big open window facing the street. I usually order the pimento grilled cheese with fried green tomatoes and suggest that you do the same. The burger is great too. If you're from the midwest and are craving s steak n shake style burger, this will do it for you.

This place is my favorite! I love their margs, and the service was wonderful. Food came out great! For sure a good time tavern.

Yo imma let you finish in a minute but... captain dans has the best burger in Brooklyn. Maybe one of the best burgers of all time. Service is totally fine, it's a bar, not a Michelin starred restaurant, ignore the yuppie temper tantrums. Have a burger, and a good time ;)

Visited here while doing some apt hunting in Bed Stuy. I was pleasantly surprised. First, a star for the ambiance. It's got a cozy bar feel. Interesting bird (parrot?) theme for decor. Unisex bathrooms. Mostly high top or bar seating. Not great for large groups but perfect for a foursome or less. Another star for service. We had a very nice server, though he seemed to be the only one working the tables, which only made his patience and attitude more appreciated. Another two stars for food. We ordered the veggie burger and their special chicken & waffle sliders. Both were surprisingly good. I really wasn't expecting much from a small local bar on the corner, but the food tasted great. Not too heavy or filling, good flavors, good texture, good value. The chicken & waffle sliders come with a biscuit gravy sauce that combines perfectly with the table hot sauce. Veggie burger had tons of flavor. And lastly, one star for personal detail. My friend really likes iced tea, but hates powdered iced tea. It's always a gamble which she'll be served, but this place serves legit iced tea, brewed not dissolved. And because there was a bit of a wait to get our orders out, the server comped our drinks for the meal. We weren't even bothered by the wait. So that's a full five stars.

I am writing this update to commend the way that management addressed this matter. I was contacted on here, by email, and then by phone. Management was diligent about following up with me, and they were extremely apologetic, and accountable. Comments like the one I previously made, are hard to make (and hard to experience), and I want to give major kudos to management for not shying away from, or being defensive about a sensitive topic. I also want to highlight something that I mentioned briefly in my first comment which was that there was a second waitress who sensed the visible discomfort, and tension, and she tried to take over, and do the right thing. The GM asked that I come back, and give the place a second chance, and after speaking with her, I can say that I would feel comfortable coming back, and trying again. The matter was handled in a stand up way. Post visit review to follow.

Drinks were really good price. Food was average, ordered the chicken sandwich, only to get it and find out it was dark meat. Wish I would've been told because I would've spent 14 dollars on something I'd eat more than half off. Food wasn't worth the price. On a better note, great margaritas

Business must be booming if you can afford to be sh!tbags to afternoon walkins. To the bartender at 2:30pm on Dec 31: Maybe you're having a bad day. Maybe you hate your job. I don't know what your deal is. But it embarrasses both of us when you're loud and rude for no reason. All I did was ask if you were still serving food.

This place is really a good time tavern. The bartenders are super friendly, the drinks are real good, and they have food until super late (like in the AM late). Their fries are to die for and I do want to come back and have their chicken sandwich. Their bathrooms are nautical-themed! And the music is bumping just loud enough that people can't eavesdrop on your conversation but you're also not shouting to be heard. All around, a solid place to get your ethanol on.

So this is literally two steps outside my front door & it accepts card (beware there is a $20 card min.) Happy Hour until 8 - $1 off drinks & They tell you when the draft lines were cleaned!! Hello draft beer...Goodbye iron beer taste Excellent beers on tap, wine list and cocktails. All exceptional. If you're going to serve some nibbles its great that you cater to all alcohol drinkers. Something is offered for everyone. The Cheese fries are yummy. Fried Chicken Sando was pretty tasty. Can't wait to try out more food! I am totally intrigued with the fried green tomato BLT...you don't see that everywhere! Solid Spot. Wish that there was some outdoor seating though.

First of all a big ol W-O-W for the food drinks n service here. I had a sincerely 'good time' here for brunch -- the bloodys were spicy, the coffee was hot, the chicken was perfect and the servers were fun! Sandra and Tay gave my morning (ok early afternoon I confess) enough positivity n sass to keep me going till next Sunday. Can't wait to come back!!!

This place is a God send. Unlike other bar grills in the area, Captain Dans stocks top shelf brands and doesn't run out. They now have food, awesome....whole wings I mean really, whole wings??? The staff is nothing but awesome. So is the menu. So are the margaritas. #patronforlife #captaindans

My 1st time here the waitress was cool up until we left and said thank you to her she rudely ignored us, not sure why she received an 18% tip, not like we didn't tip her at all.... 2nd Time It was a Male waiter and he was lovely all around! Food still amazing. 3rd Time Female waitress again... completely rude. Gave me and my boyfriend the worst attitude ever. Ordered my Micheladas and I know they usually come with the beer on the side.... and they didn't come. When I asked her "Where are the two beers for the Micheladas?" her response was "I am not jipping you." I never told her she was I just asked her where are they. There was only 1 can there, she said she poured a whole beer into one michelada... but I highly doubt that because it didn't taste overwhelmingly like beer, it tasted just right as usual... I think she used 1 beer for 2 drinks because she was pissed off.... idk why but she was really nasty. She also stated she poured the whole beer in one because and I quote "So I dont have to carry all this shit out there, ya know?" (Side note: 10 minutes later a woman ordered a michelada across from me and the waitress brought her the side of beer....) No I don't know.... what I do know is you chose to be a waitress and that entails bringing what we ordered to the table.... This was my new favorite go to on the weekends, but after that disgusting waitresses attitude, I'll never be here again. And I am not the only one because I see multiple reviews about rude staff, maybe it's time for a staff meeting.... or new staff. Either way I hope Adrienne F. address this situation before more customers have a fowl experience.
