The 12 Best Po' Boys in New Orleans

"A charming hole-in-the-wall where the food speaks for itself, Crabby Jack’s makes overstuffed po’ boys big enough for two people and daring enough to impress NOLA's discerning foodies. Don’t leave without trying the slow-roasted duck sandwich, where the gravy soaks perfectly into the French roll that’s just managing to hold it all together. If seafood is more your speed, try another of their signature po’ boys, featuring a shrimp remoulade that’s equal parts sophisticated and decadent." - Andrew Parks

Celebrated a birthday dinner at Crabby Jack’s in New Orleans, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! This spot is everything you hope for when it comes to authentic, laid-back Louisiana charm paired with incredible food. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming—no frills, just good vibes and even better food. The menu is packed with classics, and every dish we ordered was a reminder of why Cajun and Creole cooking is truly something special. The seafood was absolutely outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Whether it was the shrimp, oysters, or fish, every bite felt like a celebration of Gulf Coast flavors. The portions were generous (you definitely won’t leave hungry), and everything had that homemade, soulful touch you can’t fake. What really made the night stand out, though, was the hospitality. The staff went out of their way to make the birthday feel special, adding that personal touch that turns a good meal into a memorable experience. If you’re in New Orleans and want a spot that delivers authentic local flavor in a relaxed setting, Crabby Jack’s is a must. Perfect for a casual lunch or, in our case, a truly wonderful birthday dinner. Five stars all the way—can’t wait to come back!

The duck poboy weighs close to 2 pounds! Stuffed with tender, slow roasted duck and covered in a perfectly seasoned sauce it is an amazing meal! The special was a shrimp poboy with Cajun seasoning that was very filling and stuffed with shrimp.

This place was recommended by a friend and so my wife and I stopped today. Such a great little place! Not on the main route for visitors looking for food but worth the trip if you take the time. We had the "Dat-Fire" shrimp po-boy and was it ever good and the shrimp weren't those big fat frozen ones either. And talk about overstuffed! We arrived right at closing time, but they took our order to go. Friendly people who made you feel welcome. Like all good local places there were a couple of local folks there and when we said it was our first time, they said we had come to the right place. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu.

Our family stoped by Crabby Jacks for lunch at a recommendation from a friend back home. The food was so good, it is worth a repeat trip and a high recommendation. The fried chicken was so tasty and juicy, I could not stop eating it and actually ate some of my teenage son’s fried chicken plate as well. Their cup of gumbo got my teenage son to venture a new food experience and he loved the gumbo and is now hooked on it. My wife had the soft shell crab plate and thought that was made just perfectly. The atmosphere and friendly conversation with the staff of the restaurant made the lunch a perfect outing. It may look a little rough on the outside, but my experiences has told me that those type of places make the best darn food. It is very true with Crabby Jacks, as the place is full of character and the food is delicious.

Really great shrimp Po boys (loaded with shrimp) and the best dirty rice that I've ever had (and I'm not generally a dirty rice fan)! The red beans and rice were also delicious! The staff was super friendly and helpful! So glad we stopped here! Highly recommend! ❤️

Shared table (long) dining, locals favorite. Just a quick update. We always return to crabby Jack's every time we come back to New Orleans. You can't get more shrimp on a po-boy anywhere else for these prices. THE BEST.
