Here’s 9 Jersey Shore Dining Spots with a Water View | Eater Philly

"Crabby Jack’s, the deck bar at Somers Point’s popular dining spot The Crab Trap, offers cocktail sipping and casual seafood fare in an outdoor setting next to the sparkling waters of the bay. Guests here can enjoy Crab Trap delicacies in a relaxed, outdoor setting. Grab a seat at the bar and dine on the crab bites and firecracker shrimp starters or go straight to the main course and order the crab cake sandwich or fried flounder platter. For specialty sips, try their “Oranj” crush, noted as the hot spot’s official summer drink on the menu." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Went to Crabby Jack's after being given a 1 hour and 40 min wait for a table for 2 at the Crab Trap! Kinda what we expected. Staff could be a bit friendlier to be honest. It would be a great idea to let people who are waiting for a table, know that they can go to the bar while they wait and buy a drink or 2. Why lose on the extra revenue??? We had to figure it out and head over ourselves. However, the highlight for us what the entertainment that evening. I believe his name was Doug Jennings. This guy was great! very talented AND a great personality. It helped to make us feel like we were on vacation. very mellow and laidback, and a great voice. PLUS he played instruments! It made waiting the 30 min for our table that much more bearable. The 5 ATMOSPHERE stars were for the music. :-)

Google
Crabby Jack’s is our go-to spot in Somers Point, NJ! With amazing waterfront views just across the bridge from Ocean City, the location and live music create an unbeatable vibe. Food and drinks are consistently excellent, and while service can be a bit slow due to the crowd, the staff is super friendly. Parking fills up fast, but the overflow lot helps. We've visited multiple times and always look forward to going back!

There's not a better place in Somers Point to enjoy a great view and a great drink! Get here early so you can get a spot overlooking the water. You won't regret it! Lemon drop martinis are out of this world!

Google
Great place to stop on your way to Ocean City or on your way out of OC. Yet close enough to OC to come for lunch or dinner. Great view because you are right on the bay. Friendly and curious staff. Located right at the foot of the Ninth Street Bridge and if you have a boat you can dock right here.

Google
Perfect outdoor restaurant for seafood and drinks. Had their oysters and flounder previously, no pictures, but I remember they were both delicious. Service can be crazy at times, so be prepared.

Google
I’ve been to plenty of bars, and most bartenders understand that customers are the reason they have a job. Unfortunately, that’s not the vibe you get from the duo working at Crabby Jack’s — the older blonde woman with two “Princess Leia” ponytails and the man who works alongside her. Both act as though serving a drink is an inconvenience. The woman gives the impression you’re disturbing her personal time, while the man seems visibly annoyed to take your order. It comes off as immature and unprofessional. Here’s the reality: customers are spending their hard-earned money here, and bartenders should show at least a basic level of friendliness and appreciation. It’s not a big ask. A smile, a “thanks,” or even just neutral professionalism would go a long way. Sadly, on my visit, that was nowhere to be found. Until the staff adjust their attitude, it’s hard to recommend this place for anyone looking to feel welcome while enjoying a drink.

Google
This place had the best crab bites I have ever eaten. I also go the crab cake sandwich and my husband got the crabby patty which were both great as well. The service was awesome and they were very accommodating for our large group. The ocean view is a great addition.

Google
The location is probably the only saving grace of Crabby Jack’s. I didn’t take any pictures because we wanted to just get out of there. The service was incredibly slow and items from our order were forgotten, whatever no big deal I guess. This review is mainly for the nightmare of a lobster roll on their menu. It was like an open faced sandwich, with tomatoes? It wasn’t warm either but it was advertised as warm and buttery(which is was neither) The lobster roll couldn’t decide if it was Maine or Connecticut style. They might as well have called it a lobster hoagie, None of it made sense, you couldn’t even pick it up and eat it. The crab bites were alright, but it’s kind of hard to mess up a fried bite of food. Glad we didn’t try too much cause it all looked disappointing. The bar seemed like it could be a fun place to have some drinks, but the food was weird.

Yelp
Nothing better then dining on a boat dock when the sin is shining and there is a cool breeze. We had excellent drinks excellent service and very good food. The tuna tocos were very good. The beet salad and Buffalo wedge were also very good. Have to make this place a regular stop

Yelp
The food was terrible. My husband and I came to ocean city for a few days vacation and ended up going here because all other restaurants had an hour plus wait or needed a reservation. The wait was 25 mins and so here is where we stayed. We waited almost 45 whole minutes to actually get our food. Anyone with kids no that this is not okay. It seems they do not have the capacity to cook multiple meals at once and so everyone's food was literally coming out one by one. When our food came out, none of the sauces or food was correct. I didn't even take pictures of the food because it wasn't worth it. The bathroom was also right next to the hotel which is a walk and my daughter needed to go twice so you know how that goes. I give it two stars because the server was kind but that's the only thing good about this place.

Yelp
Open seating setting. Can get cool on the water. Most food is fried or deep fried served in a basket. No platters or dessert. Live music but hard to hear and located in the parking lot.

Yelp
My lady and spent the day on the Ocean City Boardwalk yesterday and so afterwards we were craving a cold beer and seafood with a view. After a quick search we found crappy jacks and so we went to the beautiful bayside eatery with high hopes. Known for their clams casino, we put in an order and then I was pretty hungry so I decided to go with the fried flounder platter. Growing up in America and having ordered "platters" before, I had high hopes for this $18 "platter." A platter sounds filling right? It sounds like an order would be a full size meal, so why expect any different from Crabby Jack? It was only after receiving my $18 flounder "platter" that I realized why Jack is so crabby. Poor guy is starving. It's hard to believe so I included a picture, but my flounder "platter" was one single small sized fried filet and an ice cream scoop of potato salad. All this for 18 bucks. Oh and it was plated beautifully on their finest backyard cookout paper plates. Was the paper plate a big deal? Not if it had an actual fish platter, but when it arrived I felt like I was late to the cookout and they just gave me what they had leftover. The amount of food they serve with the description of it being a "platter" was actually hilarious. I started looking for a hidden camera to see who was messing with me. No camera. No platter. Just a sad little paper plate of a little flounder filet and 4 oz of potato salad. Do not come hungry. You'll be pissed.

Yelp
Want to preface all this by saying I've been going to Somers Point and OC for almost 30 years. Love crabby jacks, mostly for the atmosphere. Food is good though. Went this past Sunday and were seated at a nice table by the water. However - waited 20 mins and no one ever came over to our table. Multiple waitresses looked at us and passed by multiple times. We got up and left and told the hostess. Will go back, but come on. Do better with the service and hospitality.

Yelp
Really cool location right on the bay, casual outdoor spot. Food was just ok. Clams casino were too salty, crab cake was coated in a breading and seemed like it was deep fried but the inside was mushy and creamy. It was definitely weird. Potato salad was flavorful but came out warm. Husbands burger was just ok. Employees were very nice!
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
Stopped here today for a lunch break, had a mango cart beer which was refreshing. The clams casino was delicious. The service was okay, but the place has great views of the water.

Lucas G.

Yelp
Pretty ambiance, but we were freezing where we were sat, and upon asking if we could relocate to an empty table, they refused to move us because of ridiculous rules. How is there a rule to not move once you're seated? I pray to God that they figure out their shit.

Yelp
This is tourist trap place! Beware of the fountain soda, its NOT refillable! Its a 8oz plastic cup with full of ice, so theres that. The only goodside is the location... views! Service by the staff is wonderfull though
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
Yummy drinks and food and right on the bay! Service almost always super friendly!! Live music often! Bring a hoodie because it's often a bit windy and chilly.

Yelp
Service was very good. Ambiance is very good. That sea breeze in summer is just... wow! Can't be beat! The place get super packed for lunch and promptly empties around 2ish. Sadly, the food is just horrible across the board, and there's nothing redeemable about it. Here's what I had: Crab cakes: C Not much flavor. My kids had this, and I felt bad for them. :( Clam Casino: D Dreadful. Mostly tasteless, and the clams were not minced well enough. They were too chunky and overcooked, so you end up with a bunch of rubbery balls in your mouth. Not nearly enough garlic and oil. Could've used more bread crumbs. I left some clams over; it just wasn't worth eating. Shrimp Cocktail: F Wow, seriously? The shrimp was obviously previously frozen and waaaaay overcooked. It was water-logged, overly dense, and completely tasteless. I took a bite, took a second bite to make sure I wasn't crazy, and promptly sent the rest back to the kitchen. The cocktail sauce was interesting -- a little more horseradish and less sweet than most shrimp cocktail sauce I've had in the past, which I DID actually like! But that shrimp... yikes! Tasteless and rubbery. Blech. Obviously previously frozen, and given how dense the shrimp was, I'm assuming over-thawed in a microwave. Burger: C I'm torn on this. The burger itself was nicely charbroiled on the outside. I ordered it medium rare, and it was, which is nice. But the patty itself didn't have much flavor. I'm not sure the meat was Angus, but worse, there was no seasoning. At all! No salt, no pepper, no garlic powder, no worcestershire sauce in the meat. The patty was very bland and had almost no flavor aside from the char. Too bad, because the patty was cooked well.

Yelp
Great views, average food, drink and slow service. The Crab Bites were tasty, unfortunately the Lobster Roll was not. As you can see, you do receive a good portion of lobster; however, it lacks seasoning of any kind. It was just blah.

Yelp
I went here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend. We arrived and there was no parking whatsoever by the restaurant or in the sand lot across the street. We were nervous there was going to be an extremely long wait, but to our surprise we got sat right away! (I guess all the cars were for the Crab Trap). Our server was extremely sweet. We didn't see her all that much, but these workers are seriously busy. I got a long island and the crab cake sandwich. Their drinks always have the perfect amount of alcohol in my opinion- not too much, not too little. The crab cake sandwich was amazing (as usual). This is the place to go if you like loads of crab meat. I feel like you definitely get your moneys worth here on the quality of the food. I love coming here and will continue to come here- not to mention the views are incredible. 5/5.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Love the food & ambience here! If you want to relax by the bay in a casual dining atmosphere & listen to some great music, this is the place for you! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Desiree D.

Yelp
The hostess wasn't particularly friendly, but my server was pleasant and the beer was cold. Shrimp cocktail was the usual fare, and the wedge salad was alright. It's really just about being on the water and having a drink before heading into Ocean City.
google avatar

Marcia K.

Yelp
Worst crab cake sandwich I've had. It was mushy and runny. So was the potato salad. Very disappointing as I used to love it here. At least the service was good.
google avatar

Lor W.

Yelp
No crabs at Crabby Jack's...sometimes it's not all in a name! The Point at Somer's Point wasn't open yet, so we decided to stop here for lunch. We arrived via jetboat and we managed to snag the last available space on the dock. This place was busy! We were seated after a 20 minute wait for our party of four. We were perplexed about the whereabouts of the kitchen. Apparently it's an outdoor grill at the Pier 4 Hotel on the property. Is there a kitchen inside also? Can't say that I know, folks! The Crab Cake was filler-heavy and the potato salad had a weird, whipped texture. I think there was corn in it? The Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap was pretty flavorless had chopped bacon in it (not advertised). The clam strips were more batter than clam, but they were seasoned nicely. Nice, diverse clientele, and the view of the Intercoastal can't be beat. The parking lot is small and nightmarish. The bathrooms are unisex (2) and on the Pier 4 Hotel property. This place is good for a basic, very casual, no-frills outdoor dining experience on the water. You won't worry about making crumbs here!
google avatar

Mary Beth M.

Yelp
We were a party of 7 and were looking to eat at The Crab Trap but at 6:30 Wed there was a 1.5 hr wait. We walked to the outside seating here and were seated in half the time (25) they said 45. Food was good, shrimp cocktail and Orange chicken wrap. Crab cake sandwich was a hit also. Tuna taco's good and a bit spicy and the Fuzzy slushy drink hit the spot.

Yelp
This place gets a 5/5 for its views but holy crap, a 2 for its service. So I'm balancing it out to a 3. But honestly... if it didn't have its views or amazing bartenders, it could drop down to a one. It's the Jersey shore so you have hundreds of shoobies coming in and trying to grab whatever "shore life" they can grasp. So it's BUSY. My gf and I came around 4pm on a Monday.. still packed. With these cheesy PA people with fisherman's hats, sunburnt farmers' tans, and socks with flip flops (please just don't do this... just don't). We are locals and it's just... embarrassing :( The drinks and the views are the savior for this establishment. The poor waitress had an entire section filled to the brim with little help and she didn't know the menu or much English. I felt bad for her but she was doing the best that she could. However.. it shouldn't take 20 mins to take our drink order.. or another 15 to bring them over before taking our actually order... which took another 30 mins. And they didn't have about five things on the menu. And I don't blame the waitress at all because she was 100% overworked and understaffed. Food was blah. Standard - firecracker shrimp, hot dogs, and a wimpy salmon salad that had blue cheese instead of the advertised goat cheese. I'll come again for drinks but skip the food.

Yelp
If you're on vacation and trying to map out your week, put a plan "B" in place. My husband and I planned out our meals for the week for vacation taking in consideration the weather that may alter these plans. So, this morning we checked the website, which said open at 11am. We call to make sure and we speak to an employee who politely states "I'm pretty sure it's open, yes, it's open". So we drove over and were told by the bartender "sorry, we don't open for another hour". Now frustrated that there is no consistency nor communication here, leave and while driving to leave, face a large digital sign reading "Crabby Jack's Open". Needless to say, we could have been elsewhere dining because their website and signs are not updated. Please realize, these businesses should feel like they owe their consumers the respect of their time especially while on vacation. Apparently the only draw is the view and customer satisfaction is not a strength. Very disappointed!

Alison Q.

Yelp
Food was average, but the service was excellent. The view was also spectacular, and the live music was awesome.
google avatar

H W.

Yelp
Another great location at the Jersey Shore. All in all, it's the location and the company that have most contributes to the fun because it's certainly not (today anyway) any better than 3 stars. Shared appetizers (including crab bites and oysters / with lots is shell / and two mains including salmon. Gotta hand it to the servers. Weren't many, but they sure worked hard serving numerous patrons.

J M.

Yelp
Can't beat the views and ambiance. But, like many are saying, the food leaves something to be desired. Our server was very nice, just clearly overwhelmed. I made the mistake of ordering a chicken Caesar salad and have been sick with food poisoning since. Not the best ending to vacation. Stick to the fried seafood.
google avatar

Anna Marie P.

Yelp
First time here. The view was nice. Service was ok. Nothing wonderful. I had the fried flounder. It was moist but a little over done. Fries were meh. Weird was my husband wanted a cup of coffee. No coffee, that item is not on limited outside menu. Husband had Buffalo chicken salad. Again average, nothing to write home about. So go for the view.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere... this is definitely a spot to go ... after a day on the beach to just chill by the water and have yummy drinks and listen to live music. Right over the bridge for easy access to and fro. Shrimp was perfect. Oysters I don't do but fresh my son loved and the flounder was possibly the best around. Service was attentive.
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I went here on a Tuesday evening with my girlfriend. It's such a great location right on the water near the 9th street bridge to go into Ocean City. We did have to wait about 45 minutes, but it was well worth it! The drinks were great and the food, along with service, was incredible! One of the best crab cake sandwiches I've ever had. They also had live music too, which made it an even better atmosphere. Highly recommend coming here!
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Great seats on the bay! Had the firecracker shrimp, a few beers and then started in with some rum punch/rum runners which were quite good! Earlier in the day I had a Bloody Mary- let's just say I've had better - skip it! Enjoy and have fun!
google avatar

Ab C.

Yelp
Three stars for the pretty location on the water; parking is tough but usually not impossible even if you have to walk a ways. Season opening day was a disaster and waitresses weren't prompted on how to manage customers, a computer glitch, and no food available(which they never told us) despite taking our drinks order. This isn't Crabby Jack's first season so either 100% new management couldn't deal, or old management didn't care to deal. Either way, we were disappointed. The menu has always had good choices, somewhat pricey, but we want to support local businesses. Do we will attempt to go back
google avatar

Marisa A.

Yelp
After a beach trip, my family and I went to Crabby Jack's. The menu did not offer a variety of options, and what we did get we were quite disappointed by. I got the oysters and they did not taste fresh. My brother got the crab cake and it tasted frozen. I was looking forward to seafood during this trip but my expectations were not met.

Vicki G.

Yelp
Went to Crabby Jacks and had an amazing outdoor eating experience! The place was packed but we were seated promptly! Menu is varied & offers burgers, salads & seafood options. We did not select any beverages from the bar on this occasion, but I've had IPA beers here before that were served ice cold & delicious! My only complaint: no free refills on soft drinks which added surprise charges to our bill I still love going to Crabby Jacks, just won't order pop with lunch anymore.
google avatar

Kathy B.

Yelp
Not good at all!  Horrific service!  I know help is hard to come by BUT...Told hostesses we wanted a table for two.  Affirmed 20 minute wait.  Went back in 20 to check queue... they never checked us in!  One started to fight with other and tried to tell her we had been there at desk.  They could not agree..  We were then told an hour wait!  We are locals... never going back.  Incompetent and disrespectful.  Do yourself a favor....Go to the Anchorage folks!
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
Its Crab Trap's food with an exhaustive running back and forth for someone.so Jack doesn't have a grill or smoker. I am not thrilled but I am about Crab Trap. It made me feel crabbiness . I would love better atmosphere and colorful canopies overlaid softener light/ protection . There's nothing special about it other than outside with a few. Presentation and organized as it doesn't seem management has it done.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Had a delicious lunch today over looking the bay. Our server, Ronald and staff, were extremely attentive. Crab cake tacos were amazing! Looking forward to returning soon!

Dawn H.

Yelp
This is a prime example of how the quality of the food is often in inverse proportion to the views. Great view, terrible food. I had the crab cake sandwich, which was a lot of breading filled with some undefined creamy substance, which didn't resemble or taste like crab in the least. Sort of deep fried mayonnaise or something. At least order something else. I'm a retired older woman and the waitress called me "babe". Lol.
google avatar

Kaitlyn H.

Yelp
Service was a little slow- they were extremely busy, but our waitress seemed to have too many tables all seated at the same time that she wasn't able to catch up and was always on the go. The food was fabulous, we only got shareable appetizers and drinks. For a Thursday night the wait was about 30 minutes, there is a little bar outside that you can order drinks before being seated which was one of the best parts. Would definitely recommend if you are staying on the bay side!
google avatar

Ben C.

Yelp
Great food and views but a bit hard to find. Happened to come across Crabby Jack's as we were leaving Ocean City as we headed home. I mean happened because we hadn't planned to go there specifically. We had found The Crab Trap on Yelp and we're planning to go there. Unfortunately Crab Trap is take out only but I noticed people driving past me in the drive way going straight to the back. Crabby Jack is physically at the same location but behind the Crab Trap sitting as an open air bar/restaurant on a pier facing the bay. The Saturday crowd was there so the wait time was 45m. I was hesitant but with limited options available, live music playing and a small bar with plenty of comfortable seating in the parking lot next to the restaurant, we decided to wait. We definitely made the right decision! We ended up sitting at a table facing the bay with great views. We ordered the fire cracker shrimp and fried clams for appetizer. Two of us we had the fried founder and scallops. I had the seafood sauté, a seafood and light pasta combination. It was all excellent. Food was prepared just right and my seafood pasta dish was packed with seafood and a steal at $25. It could easily be 25-50% more anywhere else. Please note that while they have a full bar, they don't sell wine by the bottle only by the glass. I wish Crabby Jack's was closer as we'd be there often during the spring, summer and fall timeframe when they are open.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
We came to eat with family and they do not provide substitutions for dietary restrictions. Definitely will not eat here again..

David S.

Yelp
Love this place. Great view. Limited food menu, but all good. Great bartenders. Not like Yesterday's, these bartenders are attentive and very quick service

Sarah And Paul K.

Yelp
They have a limited menu but it is great food plus good drinks! We sat out in the sun with a great view of the bay! Our waitress made Sure we were taken care of quickly and it was great service. Be sure to stop at Crabby's Jack - just behind the Crab Pot - same owner

Madi D.

Yelp
Food and drinks were great however the service was awful. Only waited about 10 mins for a table, however once we were seated we waited 15 minutes before our waitress even came to the table. The place wasn't super busy either. Put it this way I could have drank 5+ drinks if server was attentive however only had 2 because our waitress was no where to be found. We had to chase her down to even pay our bill. Overall is great place but as a waitress myself the service here is unacceptable.

Virginia H.

Yelp
This food is so so so tasty! Totally worth it. If you're allergic to any kind of seafood, avoid. If you aren't-- definitely go! We had the: Clams CasinoFirecracker ShrimpOysters and more. Even the fries are good.
google avatar

Rick M.

Yelp
Two guys tending bar. One was so engrossed in texting on his cell, he couldn't tend bar. How annoying! Give the job to someone who wants to tend bar not text his gang. I go back, always do, just hope he's somewhere far away! Read the other reviews, the bartenders are failing the customers!!

Tim S.

Yelp
Seems like fast food joint. We both had a crab cake sandwich, which cans out pre breaded and deep fried. It wasn't very good, and the inside wasn't hot. Service was great and the beer was cold.
google avatar

Sidney N.

Yelp
By far the worst dining out experience I've ever had. The atmosphere is nice but our server was absolutely terrible. She came to our table after about 10-15 minutes to get our drinks & we ordered right away... we waited a good hour long for chicken fingers, clams casino and a lobster roll. Food was okay nothing that I really enjoyed. Our server didn't even deliver the food and I had to ask the hostess for a box. Our server did not come back until we sat around with empty plates and a box for about 15-20 minutes. So we saw our server twice for the entire time we were there. Even the table next to us was talking about her bad attitude and how she was a bad server. Will never be back. Do not recommend at all. Server name on the bill- Devon G

Sami Z.

Yelp
A hidden miracle! Awesome outdoor seating and view. Food and drinks were outstanding. Followed all covid safety concerns. An amazing little getaway for someone tired of the same old day to day. Bartender was fast and easy to speak to. Great hospitality. I can't say enough good things!
google avatar

Deborah Q.

Yelp
Cold 'Warm' Lobster Roll, intentional COMMA. We waited an hour and a half to get a lobster roll, I like them hot with butter as the menu indicated. When I told the waitress that the warm lobster roll was served cold on lettice and tomato instead of aplogizing or offering something else she said that's how we serve them. I said. "You serve the warm lobster rolls cold?" and she takes the menu and points to a COMMA. "See it is a lobster roll COMMA warm butter. So I asked where the warm butter was and she offered to bring it, if I wanted. The manager did offer something else after we had finished the small portion of cold lobster but did not comp anything. If I could give less than 1 star I would. They are crabby for sure and the menu can not be trusted. Read it carefully.

Kate C.

Yelp
We ate there on a Tuesday, the night after Labor Day. It was a 45 minute wait. There is a bar you can go to while waiting. If you are going, you go more for the scenery, live music, drinks. Service was great! Food is mediocre. I would recommend for outside seating with a nice view.

Tech B.

Yelp
Great food, drinks, and service. This place is always crowded and there is always a wait. There is an outside bar where you can get drinks while waiting for your table. The view of the bay is awesome. If you are afraid of Covid, stay home. The restaurant has done as much possible to comply with the state's requirements. I have been there several times this summer and have not had any issues. Will be back in the fall.

Jamie S.

Yelp
My husband & I went to crabby jacks the other day & we sat at the bar to grab a drink & a bite to eat. The atmosphere was amazing! Although the weather wasn't on our side, the service made up for the experience. Our bartender Jake was very personable & made us laugh the whole time we were there. He was very attentive & made sure we had everything we needed & that we enjoyed our beverages & food. He also makes a mean cocktail LOL. The experience was a 10/10!! We will be coming back, this is our new favorite spot.

Eric P.

Yelp
They are doing a great job. There was a wait but there was live music, and an outdoor bar. Nice and open, and they were good with making sure everyone wore a mask. BEST CRAB CAKE SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD! It was perfect. The oysters were fresh, the fries were crispy, and the potato salad was a stand out!
