Nice little seafood joint right off the bike trail. They do have outside seating available. Staff is friendly and outgoing. Food did take a little while to come out but it was all warm and tasty. Had the crab dip and fried clams for an app. Entrees were the captains platter, the fried shrimp and fish and the crabby burger. All were tasty and cooked perfectly. Can't wait to return.

We were very happy with our meals at the crabby pig. We dined outside with our dog. The food was delicious and the service was good. Someone had said the portions were small but that was not our experience. I got the crab cake dinner and my boyfriend had the chicken with crab topping. We left with a whole other meal’s worth of leftovers.

Always ate here when I lived in Cumberland. Now that I’m in Ohio, it was a true treat to be back on recent visit. It was delicious now as it was ten years ago. It wish I lived closer so I could enjoy the Cream of Crab soup everyday. My husband enjoyed it a great deal too. We’re definitely stopping in again on our visit.

Hands down the best crab cake I ever ate. First time customers. I had the captain's platter, everything was delicious. The scallops melted in your mouth. My husband got the fried oyster platter and the baked beans are unbelievably good with big chunks of bacon. My husband and I decided that any time that we're in the area we are stopping by there. Hard to find a seafood place that is this good. The service was outstanding as well.

Hands down the best seafood restaurant in the area. We were visiting the area and had a bad experience on Maryland crab cakes at another restaurant and was recommended this place. Oh my gosh. We first started with the Crab dip and the Crab bisque!!! It's to die for. Then the Captains platter with shrimp, scallops, fried crab cakes and fish. I was in heaven. We are from Ohio and need a place like this up here in Cleveland. Thank you for this great food experience.

If you find yourself in Cumberland, MD, for one of the many great events throughout the year, The Crabby Pig is an absolute must! The food is fantastic, and the service is exceptional—every bite and every interaction makes you feel right at home. The “Mixed” soup is a must, a perfect fusion of flavors that hits just right. Came here on a Friday on vacation, couldn’t wait to taste the food, however, I was kinda disappointed I ordered the crabby Mac and cheese and it claimed to be homemade, but tasted like Kraft Mac and cheese, the crab cake had no seasoning..I tasted a few other things that was ordered and felt the same way, except for the baked beans and jambalaya which was extremely good, the worst part was the prices, if you’re going to charge that amount at least let the food be a good portion and taste good….oh yea the live band was excellent

This was first experience at the Crabby Pig. Over all it was a pleasant experience. It’s a small place that fills quick with some outdoor seating. Friendly staff that takes care of you. I had the Piggyback burger which is an angus burger topped with bbq pulled pork and the pork was Fabulous! It was a nice pairing with burger but I really recommend the pulled pork! I would recommend stopping in if you’re in Cumberland MD! Visit on 4/13/25 was great! I highly r the BBQ pulled pork sandwich! Hats off to sundays chef!! That was the best pulled pork I have ever eaten! I added cheese and bacon to mine and it complimented it well! It’s worth the 2 hour trip just for that pulled pork!!! Update 5/23/25 another fantastic visit! Tried the loaded fries this time with the bbq pulled pork and cheddar cheese and boy oh boy what a treat! The BBQ pulled pork sandwich was just as yummy as the last one! I love stopping here when in the area!

Very busy spot. So thats a good sign that it's delicious! We waited (back at the hotel) for just half an hour, since we didn't have reservations. Nice large booth. Waitress was ON IT! Very attentive despite being very busy! Good wine for me, Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. A definite would love to visit again. Some items not photographed coconut shrimp and ribs! My tummy just wasn't big enough to enjoy it all!!

I thought this place was decent! We wanted some lunch on our road trip back home. The inside was kind of dark so opted to sit outside. Was a bit busy but found a shade table when some people were leaving. The food took a bit but I enjoyed my soft shell crab sandwich. It's usually super pricey in other restaurants so I think the price was good for what I got! It's in a cute tourist area for Cumberland which I didn't even know existed. Definitely a cool place to check out.

Superb crab cake sandwich but a well rounded food snd beer menu plus its proximity to the canal snd gap trail mike it a must stop for cyclists riding through Cumberland. Try worstesehire sauce on the crab cakes. Kinda weird but works really great either way dill pickles. A dive bar serving serving style back in the day I'm told

This was the Best bbq we had on our east coast adventure. Ribs were flavorful and had the smoked flavor they should have.

Always our "go to" when we have a hankering for crabs. It's a bit of a distance and out of the way, but it is always good. I'm not a huge fan of the cream of crab soup because it's to rich for me. But the last time I was there I tried their "mixture" of both soups. Cream of crab and Maryland crab. It was great! We also usually get the steamed shrimp and it is always good. Not a very big place, but they have plenty of seating inside and also some on the patio. Lovely area/location. The service is ok, it has been a bit slow on a few occasions. The only complaint I have is their phone system. We have always had a terrible time getting through to talk to someone. We travel a couple hours to get there and call ahead to make sure they have crabs and if so, what sizes and prices they are beforehand. Long way to travel if they don't have what you want.

The atmosphere is pretty nice, service is good, but the food is really kind of mediocre. Cream of crab soup was full of crab, but not backfin crab. BBQ Pork drowned in a sweet sauce. Good slaw and fries, though!

Came here for my birthday yesterday and left terribly disappointed. My mother and grandmother ordered fried shrimp and they brought out terribly over cooked broiled shrimp. We asked for them to be replaced only to be told that because of food waste the only option for remedy would be to put the already overcooked broiled shrimp into the frier, no breading. It was honestly insulting that that would even be offered as an option. I am never one to leave a business a negative review however this experience has definitely been an outlier for me. Very disappointed.

Despite mixed prior reviews on yelp, we tried this place. We highly recommend it. Everything was excellent. Fried Crab cakes, haddock, shrimp, scallops were all great. Not to "fried". The crab soup was wonderful. Hush puppies the best. Bake beans same. Had draft Dogfish Head 60 minute IPAs. It's not cheap, but the quality was outstanding. Server was good. If we ever return to Cumberland, we'll visit again.

Interesting local spot. Passed through and gave it a go. The prices are fair and the food is decently fresh. Tried raw oysters for the first time and while they weren't my cup of tea, the waitress was very kind about showing me the best ways to eat them. We also got calamari (it was okay/breaded like chicken tenders) and the Captains Platter. Great atmosphere and the service was awesome even though the place was packed.

I've lived in seven states and have had ribs in dozens of places. I can say without a doubt that these were the worst ribs I've had in my entire life. They were dry, cold, and massively overcooked. What little meat they had required a chisel to get off. Everything else about this restaurant is just average.

32 dollars for a medium sized Philly and a smallish plate of fries with pork BBQ on top. Only water to drink. 20% tip. The food is decent but definitely overpriced.

Pleasantly surprised. Looked at the other reviews and second guessed going here. BUT IT WAS AWESOME! We are uber hungry cyclists. We seen the captain's platter but alas it was only lunch. The waitress made the extra effort to ask the chef if we could order off the dinner menu. Since they were not busy, it was oked. We ordered the broiled captain's platter with cottage cheese and sweet slaw. While waiting to sipped on our unsweetened iced tea. The unsweetened iced tea was fresh and non bitter. The platter came out in average time. Hey it's fresh food and boy did it taste like it. The scallops melted in my mouth with just enough seasoning. The shrimp were excellent. The haddock was a nice meaty filet. The crab cake had minimal filler and was a good size. The sweet slaw was homemade, fresh, and crispy. The cottage cheese was great too. Definitely would get again and return to this establishment.

Fun spot down by Canal Place. Good food and good service. Nice outdoor dining area and dog friendly.

Stopped here based on the menu selections. Word for the wise- stick to the salad and cream of crab soup and you'll leave very happy. We ordered that and the fried oyster dinner ( nothing LIGHTLY BREADED or PLUMP about these) They were small oysters overloaded with breading and had a funny taste. I ordered the lobster tail at market price. As in 62.00 high!!!!!!!!! Think it was supposed to be 8 oz. I've never had to fight to get lobster out of the shell till this meal. I actually struggled to get the pieces out even pulling with my fingers!!!!!! No exaggeration! I would not recommend this to anyone based on this "meal" let down. 125.00 later I'm highly disappointed.

Really good food, great outdoor seating, a little loud right below the highway, but I can live with that. It was a gorgeous evening outside and I was ready to enjoy some seafood. I ordered an 8 oz cup of the Chesapeake Bay crab soup and it was good and larger than expected and very filling. I also ordered the soft shell crabs sauteed with garlic and onions. I got broccoli and french fries for my sides. The description said jumbo soft shell crabs and I inquired if they even had them this time of year. The waitress indicated they did and I figured, great. I usually prefer them deep-fried, but have been on a diet and staying away from fried food. Sauteed was okay, but not the same as a deep-fried delicious soft shell crab!! However, my gripe with the crabs was that they were super small, the two together may be made up a large. Very disappointing in the size for the price. If I had known they weren't going to be jumbo I probably would have gotten something else for my entree. I considered ordering dessert, but there wasn't anything I really wanted, so opted to pay my bill and walk off dinner. A good meal will be back when in the area, but will likely have MD steamed blue crabs if they are available at the right time of the year. Highly recommend! Good food, great service, nice outdoor patio!!! Give this great restaurant a try!!

My husband and I were taking a rest day between riding the GAP Trail and the C&O Towpath. The Crabby Pig was conveniently located next to a bike shop. The restaurant smelled amazing. My husband had the crab cake sandwich that was delicious with lots of crab. I made a vegetarian meal from sides, green beans which were well seasoned, a baked potato that was a little dry, and amazingly creamy Mac and cheese. The service was attentive. Prices were higher than we expected, but the location was perfect, right off the canal. The patio is very nice.

I'm biking the GAP/C&O from Pittsburgh to DC, and on my ride today all I could think about was food and a beer. The 70 mile ride is probably influencing this review, but I was looking forward to eating at the crabby pig the entire ride. It did not disappoint. I had the grouper and lots of Mac and cheese. As a max and cheese connoisseur.. I approve.

This place has great potential. Culinary-wise, uniting east and west MD traditions of barbecue and crab is smart and location-wise it's ideally positioned despite being under the I-68 overpass. Unfortunately, execution is poor. If you want a beer and maybe some apps, the patio is a nice spot. Foodies, skip it. Front of house, service was appropriately staffed but wait staff only watched their own tables and our server was frequently MIA. She was kind, however, and brought a bowl of water for our pup without being asked. Back of house, the food ranged from mediocre to downright inedible. The worst was the pulled pork, which literally tasted like a melted paper bag was mixed in. Ribs tasted ok but weren't prepared properly so they were dry and stuck to the bone. Anything that went in the fryer was bland with dense coating, including the haddock, shrimp, soft shell crab and French fries. Salad greens were limp and brown enough to have been thrown out at home. Steamed shrimp were pretty good, despite some sloppy shelling work. Best showing were the potato chips and two nice cherry tomatoes. Unlikely to be back.

I went there on a Friday afternoon only to learn they had no crabs and therefore were unable to prepare any dishes containing crab. Why wasn't there a sign posted outside? What the hell?!

This place has the best seafood and everything else that goes along with it. We had blue crabs, a fried seafood platter, Mac and cheese, baked beans, corn bread, and took a piece of peanut butter pie to go. All of the food was perfectly cooked. Crab cakes did not have too much filler. The service was the best we've had in a long time. We ate outside with our dog and they brought him some water.

First time here in a few years, the service & food were exceptional. The outdoor space is beautiful, the server was attentive, nice draft beer selection. And most importantly, the food was delish -- I got the salmon BLT sandwich and it's one of those lunches I'll be dreaming about for years to come. Everyone at our table had entree envy, I won the luncheon! P.S. The coconut shrimp, and house sweet & sour dressing were both c'est magnifique

Passing through Cumberland Maryland I stopped at the crabby pig and was pleased to find an excellent menu serving fresh seafood. I chose the fried oysters and the crab soup both were excellent. I sat outside and enjoyed the spring sunshine along with a cold Yuengling beer. The wait staff were polite, friendly and attentive. The menu had plenty of choices for both seafood dishes and Barbecue. I would recommend checking this place out

Yelp says this place is open til 9:00PM on Mondays...I showed up at 7:20PM and lights are off, doors locked, no one in sight. I don't know if it's closed down permanently but it's not open on Monday nights evidently.

It was pretty good. Now my review needs some more words before it will let me post it.

My boyfriend and I were visiting out of town and on our last night we decided to go here to try some Maryland crab. We came in 2 1/2 hours prior to close and it was empty. Our food took awhile and when it did come out, our fish was overly salty, scallops rubbery, and the crab legs were not full of meat! That part is not the restaurants fault bc they can't possibly check if the crabs are full of meat, but when I break one in front of our waitress with the leg having no meat at all she said they couldn't remake it bc the cook had already left...45 minutes before close??? How does that make sense. She could only take $7 off. We barely ate any of it and expressed our displeasure and asked to talk to the manager. We were fully aware we looked like the young adults who didn't want to pay for a $70 meal, but when we could eat half of it, and the crab was hardly there? No thank you. I tried my hardest to politely explain her that I was just really not happy with our food and she ended up seeming to get annoyed. We even showed her we barely ate anything but the appetizer. Manager took more off our bill after more back and forth and we still ended up tipping our waitress 20% because it wasn't her fault, she was nice. My advice? Either go here during the day when the cooks aren't clearly rushing to get out.

Excellent!!! The perfect road stop, fresh, good, friendly, and right by the road. Get the cream crab soup, get the big one, don't be tricked into sharing like I was. Sooooooo delicious! Crab cakes were good, and they're kid-friendly. Must try!

Our group of 6 went for the all you can eat crabs and the crabs were great and the service was excellent. She kept the drinks refilled and made sure we had everything we needed. The crabs were all of decent size and good quality. I would definitely come again.

Went out this evening to get some dinner after a beautiful day. Thought we would get some seafood. Now I know restaurants are having a lot of difficulties finding competent serving staff, but the staff at the Cabby Pig totally lived up to restaurant's name. They were just plain cabby and rude. There was no hostess. A fairly large group of people was standing at the front door. None of the staff engaged at all. Three staff were sending out carry out orders. Three were waiting on tables. Based on the size of the restaurant seemed like plenty of staff. After waiting about 15 minutes I finally asked one the servers if they had a hostess, a rude "no" followed. Oh and they'd be around to us in a bit. Another 10 minutes pass and no one comes. We left! Their food may be wonderful. We'll never know, but the staff is terrible.

Man, this place is the type of place I usually avoid because it seems to be the tourist spot (read: mediocre food/high prices/well trafficked area). Since I'm not from Maryland, I've been wanting to experience some MD blue crab but apparently Sunday after 6PM is not the time to find a spot for that. We took a chance here, because people seemed to be happy with the food and dissatisfied with the service, which I can deal with. They were also the only ones open serving seafood for around two hours in the way we were traveling, so we thought, f*** it, let's give it a try. We started with the crab dip. It wasn't awful, actually a lot better than most crab dips I've had that use artificial crab, are too sweet, too thick with mayo, or whatever else. It just wasn't super flavorful. We asked what the prices for bulk hardshell crab were, but they were sold out. Something told me we should pay for the crab dip and go somewhere else, but we did not. We ordered the soft shell crab platter, opted for the fried version. The plate comes with (and I quote) two jumbo soft shell crabs- entrees are served with 2 sides. We chose the "fresh veggie of the day" and "garlic mashed potatoes." Since we came for crab, we opted for the $11.99 single crab cake add on. LOL I'm laughing as I write this with a mix of bewilderment/frustration/amusement, recalling the plate that was served to us. Two crabs that were not bigger than my hand each, broccoli that was noticeably easy to discern as previously frozen, and mashed potatoes that looked too flat to be fresh. The crab cake didn't look to be very promising, either. My mouth confirmed all of these things. The crab was mushy- I think it was probably on its last legs (hehehe- get it? Ok). The broccoli was definitely frozen and not the kind that was chopped & recently frozen, but arrived at the restaurant that way. Watery and no flavor. The potatoes were just a straight up insult. There's no way they didn't come out of a box. I've had better mashed potatoes at any fast food chicken joint. They were completely devoid of garlic, and any flavor for that matter. You seeing a trend here? I'll leave it up to you to figure out how the crab cake measured up to all of this. We were starving, and also since we're in the service, we ate it. On a scale of military to 10, this food placed less desirable than a meal on a carrier. If you know, you know. If you don't, imagine prison food. If they serve seafood in prison, this was it. Final insult- with the dip appetizer, soft shell entree split between the two of us, and 2 waters, the bill was $54. The waitress was SO sweet and on top of refills and just all around good, so final cost was higher. PSA, good service is good service. Don't jilt your food service staff for sh***y food if they did a good job. Anyway, nope, nope, and more nope. Absolutely would not recommend and 10/10 would rather have Taco Bell. Or water. Or nothing.

Most of the negative reviews are because of the service, not the food. My experience was the total opposite. Our server was pretty great & was on top of getting us what we needed. But the food? I would have rather gone to Long John Silvers. Wife & I were passing through MD & since I was bragging so hard on MD crabs, we decided to stop by. We shared the crab dip, "non-refundable" soft shell crab platter (they were out of hard shell crab) with 2 sides, & a crab cake for $55. "Fresh veggie of the day" was frozen broccoli. "Garlic mashed potatoes" were instant flakes straight out of the box. Soft shell crab had virtually no flavor. Crab cake was full of crab, but again, no flavor. The crab dip was decent, but it lacked what? Flavor. 10/10 would NOT recommend based on the food alone. & for $55? Hell no.

Great food, nice atmosphere, clean and inviting. This is a relatively small restaurant so I can understand how it could get packed sometimes. I had the lunch special fish, shrimp, slaw & fries with a cup of crab soup. Everything was hot and yummy. My husband had the broiled fish sandwich with chili and also was happy. Definitely a wonderful place to stop close by the interstate but in the historic district away from fast food. Outside there's a nearby playground and exhibits.

It's disgusting, rude workers, bbq is very bad, and takes time for food to get here so if you like a wait and bad food come here!

The crabby pig is a nice place - and one of the few open on Sunday - in downtown Cumberland. I tried their ribs BBQ combo, my wife got the steak salad. Everything was well prepared, and delicious. We also tried their creamy crab soup. Sort of like a bisque, creamy and tasty. Seems like most places can't pull off both seafood and BBQ well, but they do it nicely. The ribs were not as tender as I like them. But the sandwich and bun were good. The garlic mashed potatoes and freshly sautéed green beans are both excellent sides. We tried the chocolate cake for desert. It was ok, but still frozen. They have a good selection of beers too. Overall a good experience, and great value for the price.

Agreed, somewhat difficult to find. We thought our directions were wrong and we about to give up when what seemed to be a small family group came around the corner, laughing and discussing a good meal. So we went around that same corner and Lo And Behold!! The Crabby Pig! (So called bc yummy fresh crab and really good barbecue are their two specialties.) Husband got fresh cream of crab soup and a crab cake sandwich. I had barbecue pork sandwich with fries and broccoli. Everything was really good and service was quick and pleasant even though it was close to closing time. I do definitely recommend this place and we have already made plans for a return visit.

Really loved the seafood here. We tried crab cakes, grilled seafood platter and the fried fish and shrimp platter. All tasted very fresh! I can't even remember the last time I had hush puppies that good either. Service was so nice even though we arrived late, maybe 1 hour before closing! Beer was good with many choices. Seating was comfortable, decor cute. Really, not a lot of unique restaurants in this town....I would definitely pick this one! We walked from the Fairfield Inn, easy peasy!

Let's start with no air conditioning and no drinks. We sat for 10 minutes listening to the wait staff chat away and not asking for our drink order. No one came to check on us until we got up to leave. No "manager" was in sight. A table was found for us outside in the shade and our drink order was taken. Service was slow and there didn't seem to be any one person in charge. The food was okay but not something I would go out of my way to get again. We even had to chase someone down so we could pay the bill. We were looking for something within walking distance from our hotel and this was the closest. I doubt we'll be back.

Stopped here while visiting the GAP trail today. We arrived between 4-5pm on a Saturday evening and only waited about 15 minutes to be seated. We got there just in time because there was a large Biker Event nearby and it was getting very busy by the time we left. Food was good. Service was a little slow but considering how busy it was and how few waitresses there were, the girls did the best they could. Food was excellent! I got the Captains Platter and my husband got the Crab Cake Platter. Crab cakes were the real deal; no fillers. Hush Puppies were a little over cooked but still had good flavor. Definitely would come back

Heading to Kentucky. Seen advertised on the food exit sign. Decided to check it out. Service was great food was also. Not only fast but fresh. Wish I would have taken pictures. Wife is very picky about meat, had pulled pork sandwich and ate the whole thing not picking anything out as usual. Had stuffed mushrooms for appetizer they were beyond fresh bright white button mushroom stuffed full of crab meat. Soft shell crab sandwich for dinner excellent too. Can't wait to get back here. Price was reasonable too. Thanks for the great dinner!

I love the food at the Crabby Pig! It is a great place to go with family or friends and the food is great! Good Maryland crabs and seafood!

Got a Togo order of crab soup and a burger. Generous portions affordably priced. Fresh chips with burger were good but no fry option. Need more vegetarian options on the menu.

Took awhile for us to be waited on. The waitress who did come over to help because the other lady was not waiting on us , turned out to be super friendly. Restaurant wasn't that busy at all. Ordered the crab soup. Funny thing, it had no crab. Waitress tried to make it right. Ordered hush puppies and coconut shrimp and they were both delicious. Drinks were on point. Restaurant just had a super weird vibe.

In the mountains of Western Maryland, and i run across this place. Go inside and you would think you are the shore. I always need to try the oysters, so of course I ordet those. They also had steamed clams which i had also. There is a large chalk board with the current crab prices, but since i was about 1.5 from home i decided on something quicker to eat, the shrimp and scallops.

Great quality food! The service here is always excellent. I love their crab cake sandwich!
