I was in the area around dinner time and I have wanted to eat at this restaurant ever since I passed by it last year. To start with I love Miami Springs. The city was founded by famed aviator Glenn Curtiss in the 1920's and this restaurant is steps from the historic downtown.
Crackers was opened by Jeff and Jo Mitnick who wanted their own restaurant after 20 years of bartending and waiting tables. In an area known more for it's Latin cuisine, it is unusual to find a southern inspired restaurant, especially one so charming. There is an indoor dining room that is currently closed due to Covid. Instead you can eat in the open chickee hut or down the steps in the garden as I did. It was such a beautiful night that it made the outdoor garden dining perfect.
My server was Jasper who was an absolute gem. He could not have been nicer. The prices here are so inexpensive. I started off with a delicious spiked peach tea ($6). In addition to my tea they offer several other cocktails, wine, craft beer, and non alcoholic soda, coffee, and juice.
Some of the popular dinner choices are the chicken fried chicken, mac and cheese, shrimp and grits, and fried green tomatoes. I picked the half rack BBQ Baby Back Ribs ($12.99) with fries and paid an extra dollar for a salad upgrade. The ribs were fall of the bone goodness. I was too full for dessert but they are house made. They also have a children's menu.
The food, service, atmosphere, and prices were all wonderful. While I dined a few kitties passed through the garden which I absolutely loved. Anyone who cares for animals are my people. After I ate, I walked down to Curtiss Circle to take in the holiday decorations and then across the bridge to Hialeah's Triangle Park for their holiday extravaganza. You could see all of Hialeah's holiday lights from across the canal in the front of Cracker's. I think it would be nice to dine here any time of the year but especially so during the holidays when there are so many decorations close by.
