Why Atlanta Restaurants Don’t Serve Georgia Wine | Eater Atlanta

"Peter Seifarth, a second-generation winemaker from Young Harris, describes his estate wines as a way to showcase Georgia’s unique terroir and says many local producers are discouraged by the effort required to get bottles into Atlanta restaurants. His winery has won awards at the Georgia Trustees competition, and its white blend was offered by the glass at a Savannah restaurant for about $20 and sold out quickly, while its chambourcin has been listed at a much higher price point—an example of both local demand and the pricing challenges small producers face when competing with established imported wines." - Henna Bakshi

We stopped in for the first time today. Let me tell you, the grounds and views are spectacular! My wife loves wine, me, not so much. We tried a flight and had 4 glasses. My wife liked pretty much all of them. They were okay to me, but again, I'm not a wine drinker. They have some small food choices and snacks as well. We'll be back to try more wines and enjoy the views, and some music.

Google
Loved the farmhouse for wine tasting and coffee and charcuterie. Lovely service, friendly and welcoming staff and locals, beautiful location with outdoor seating overlooking the vineyard. Wines a bit hit and miss but wide varies and $16 for 4 tastes was reasonable! Plus we found one we loved! Ambiance is incredible! Live music (by the Appalachian Monk) was wonderful. BBQ food truck on Friday looked and smelled incredible (but we had reservations elsewhere.

Ambiance: Beautiful vineyard on a gorgeous property with blooming flowers, vines, & trees. The venue itself felt almost Tuscany-ish. Perfect spot for an afternoon wine tasting, celebration, birthday, romantic date, or enjoying the views. We loved the wines! The Hellbender & Red Headed Stepchild were a few favorites amongst our group. Their wines are on the sweeter side - which was refreshing and perfect for sipping. Bottles of wine and snacks available for purchase. We went with the wine tasting flight. Not too crowded on a Saturday early afternoon. Many patio tables and outdoor spots as well as some inside sitting areas. They had live music as well. Onsite parking. There is also a French Restaurant onsite. Super beautiful ambiance for enjoying the afternoon, as a wine lover I highly recommend!

Google
Fun local winery. Two of the wines were very nice. Our crowd really enjoyed the Chamborcin and the Rosé. Beautiful setting.

Google
We stopped by on a Friday afternoon and scored their half-price wine special from 4–6 (Bougie on a Budget dream 🙌). The views are absolutely stunning, and with live music, a food truck, and perfect weather, the whole setup was just amazing. The winery itself is gorgeous. Not everyone in our group was sold on all the wines, but I personally loved their rose — crisp, refreshing, and perfect for the evening. Definitely worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

Google
Revisited Crane Creek Winery recently and it is as good as it was years ago! Love their wines and the enjoyable well maintained vineyards. When visiting in the fall I recommend their Apple Wine.

Google
Crane Creek Vineyards is a North Georgia gem! The views are stunning and the wine is amazing—especially the Hellbender Red and Mountain Harvest White. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. The patio overlooking the mountains is the perfect place to unwind. Loved the charcuterie board from The Farmhouse Market too. Can’t wait to come back for another glass and that unforgettable view!

Google
My mama was visiting from FL and this was how we spent one day celebrating her birthday. It was lovely! We arrived around 12:30 so we went to The Farmhouse and never left. Charming, cozy, relaxed, chill vibe that made for the most beautiful mother/daughter. Magical place!

Yelp
Lovely vineyard and good wine. Not much food available to nibble. They ran out of several food items.

Yelp
My first visit here was a great experience. Welcoming hosts, great wines, beautiful views. The wines we tasted were good, and there was something here for everyone. My personal favorite was the "Old Man" rosé (yes, indeed, the rosé). It was not too sweet and had enough character to make me feel like I was still manly enough to get wine-drunk on a blush wine. We attended a July Fourth festival here and really enjoyed the whole production. The band was great and the deck was a great place for dancing. I can easily imagine hosting family parties here. We brought our own picnic lunch, not sure if they ever host any other food services here.

Yelp
Crane Creek is one of my favorite wineries in North Georgia. They have a beautiful view to enjoy outside on their patio, which features both an uncovered and a covered patio. They also have plenty of indoor seating. The wine is delicious. I have enjoyed everything I have had there. The staff is always great. And they always have a great music playlist going, which is a nice bonus! Definitely worth a visit if you haven't yet!

Yelp
What a great place to visit. Loved the wine, atmosphere, service and beautiful views. Such a cool unassuming place. If you're anywhere near here, you should visit it.

Yelp
I've had their wine at the nearby sister's establishment, Paris and Co, and never really ventured out to the winery itself. It wasn't until last Sunday, when my husband and I found out that alcohol isn't served before 12:30pm on Sundays, and had to stick to NA during our early brunch. We I were a bit disappointed, since we were looking forward their great wine and decided to check out the winery's tasting room on the way home. What a wonderful surprise it was! Spacious room with lots of seating options (couches, chairs, tables, side tables, long tables, etc). Two huge fire places, one inside and one outside on the patio. They have two seating areas: bright and airy indoor tasting room and a huge patio with gorgeous views of the vineyards and mountains. Since it was chilly out, we sat inside. The bartender on duty was super friendly and knowledgeable about wines. We chose to do their red flight and weren't disappointed. We usually just grab a bottle to go with our food at the restaurant, but the flight gave us an opportunity to taste 4 of their available reds. We had a wonderful time and will most definitely be back.

Yelp
I'm a REALLY SWEET wine type of girl and my boyfriend loves his dry wine. Unfortunately this place didn't have any wine that I loved. But the goat cheese is worth going for!! The trio was so amazing that we went back the next day for two more boxes. They are pricey though. *all four cheeses had so much flavor. You could identify each one with your eyes closed.... Which is what we did lol. There is a beautiful view on the outside of both wine tastings. -one in the front and one in the back. The walk was insane lol, but we needed the exercise. We come to this place every year, was very happy to see the second house open! We'll definitely be back!

Mary N.

Yelp
Beautiful setting. I had called ahead to see if any other beverages were available as I can't drink wine. I was told yes but not beer. Well, there was beer. That made me happy. The bad news was it was $10/can and this was during happy hour.. whereas wine was $5/glass. Not sure I will return.

Yelp
Beautiful gem of North Georgia! Absolutely stunning views, delicious wines, great music on Saturdays and dog friendly. Spent a Saturday afternoon with family and friends sampling some of the deliciousness that Crane Creek offers and it was magical. There was an amazing singer on the patio (Jane Kramer - highly recommend!) and the views just added to the overall experience.

Yelp
10/10 highly recommended! I came here with a few friends and we were blown away! The views of this place are immaculate! It's like we stepped out of the US Into Italy. We ordered our flights of wine, some chips and salsa at the front kiosk, and walked into the field to find a spot to sit. They had tables in the field that adhered to the social distancing guidelines. We found a spot under a tree and enjoyed our wine and the amazing views. It's such a beautiful place and we could've stayed there for hours! After we finished our wine, we took a ton of photos and walked around in the vineyard. The wine was good, but I wasn't able to find one I absolutely loved. Usually I'd be disappointed about it, but this place was so beautiful I didn't mind! I think this place is very versatile. It would be great for a date, family gathering, girls getaway, etc. It's such a serene place to relax and recharge. If you like wine and views, this place is worth a visit!

Daniel Q.

Yelp
Nice location, but only adequate wines, seriously overpriced. A touch of arrogance there

Yelp
Came to visit town and this was the first place our host took us. Absolutely beautiful vineyard to walk around in. They have outdoor seating to relax and enjoy the scenery. The wine selection is good too. Not too many wines which means they do well on the wines they serve. You can do a tasting or order a glass or bottle. We sat outside with two bottles and enjoyed the sunset. The wine we got was Noirlet or something along those lines. Very good. They also give a brief description of what each of the wines taste like to help the customer choose their selection. Staff was very friendly. Given the small-town-vibes of this place, a lot of people seemed to know each other. Being from out of town, they were incredibly welcoming. I would definitely plan on coming back and enjoying the scenery, people, and wine.
google avatar

John I.

Yelp
Loved most of the wines and the view is outstanding I would highly recommend making this part of your wine adventure.
google avatar

Jessi P.

Yelp
The views, wow! The wine, wow! Several people we ran into recommended this as the best vineyard in town and it didn't disappoint! You'll feel transported to a different country with the gorgeous views and thoughtful design. There were several seating areas to help with social distancing. Another great feature is that they sold several snacking items like cheese and crackers. We tried a few flights and decided on a bottle as well as a few single glasses. Everything was delicious. This is a must see place!
google avatar

Lanae T.

Yelp
Came here for my bday weekend and it was such a cute winery with the girls and I! It was 9 of us and we had a private room in the back. We were able to wine taste, try their cheese and crackers, and enjoy each other's company. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a great time! I loved it and will be back if I'm ever back in the area!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Beautiful! Hands down! Wine was good' guy serving it takes so warming up to, not the friendliest person in the world.

Yelp
My husband & I happened upon Crane Creek & what a blessing. We were greeted with warmth & conversation. Enjoyed a tasting. Ordered a bottle & enjoyed wine overlooking the vines with a cheese board. On a second occasion, they were hosting a Farm to Table dinner under their pole barn & invited us to join. Fabulous. Owners are present, accommodating, exceptional. Always a good glass of wine & feels like home. The property is lovely & a great way to enjoy together time & the scenery.

Leah S.

Yelp
Enjoyed a wonderful white wine and a lovely dry rose while looking out over their beautiful grape vines. Wonderful place to spend a few hours! Definitely want to return!

Tony P.

Yelp
Enjoyed our visit to this winery. We chose four wines for our tasting flight, two whites and two reds. The whites were fairly typical for muscadine grapes ( not our favorites). The reds were good, we were pleasantly surprised. Staff was very nice. There was an additional red not on our flight, but they gave me a taste to try. It was the better of all three I had. There is a nice covered outdoor patio with a view of the vineyards and mountains. Live music was very enjoyable, easy listening. We will be back there soon.

Georgia T.

Yelp
Absolutely the most beautiful grounds, patio, vineyard with delicious wines! We can't wait to return!
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Some really nice wines as well. My favorite was the Hellbender. A little pricey but sitting out back with a nice wine and meat n cheese plate is worth a little extra. The ride out from Helen is long but scenic. Worth the trip!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
This place was beautiful! I didn't get to experience it to the fullest yet, since we came later in the afternoon, and they were sold out of cheese platters at the winery. We decided not to stay, but took some beautiful pictures. And people were sitting outside and inside, enjoying themselves. We then drove on down the road to their market and cafe. But sadly, the cafe was closed. We were looking for a late lunch, but it was too late (our fault). The grounds and views were gorgeous. The owner (I think he was the owner) and another coworker in the market were very sweet and helpful. They helped us find a restaurant open for a late lunch. And we bought some goat cheese and chips to hold us over. They had great artisan, gourmet, foodie items in the market to buy. We walked around and saw the cute farm doggie, the cool old truck, and made a mental note to come back next time to enjoy it all and eat!

Lesley M.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to return and see when the vineyards are in full bloom.

Janet C.

Yelp
Beautiful vineyard - the views were spectacular! I would go back for sure. People were friendly and wine was good.

Scott T.

Yelp
Food was excellent, so was the service, beautiful atmosphere outside on the deck! My friend has to eat gluten free and the cook came out and said she could do anything she needed! Great place
google avatar

Julie W.

Yelp
Didn't eat anything but had a glass of Chardonnay that was delicious. Staff was beyond nice- very friendly and accommodating. The scenery was beautiful. I strongly recommend going to Che this place out. I'm told they have live music in the warmer weather. Plan on going back

Jeanette ..

Yelp
Food and wine was delicious, and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the view of the vineyard. It was a lovely evening.

Yelp
Had a great white wine, name escapes me but it stands for the Indian name of Brasstown Bald Very nice.
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
Had Ana solute amazing time at Crane Creek Winery. The staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. If the wine doesn't impress you the the scenery and atmosphere will sure your attitude. Took home several bottles but couldn't take home the views. Overall great little place to meet friends, colleagues, or strangers (it could happen).
google avatar

Maya D.

Yelp
If you're in the area you HAVE to come here. The place is absolutely beautiful, they have a wide variety of wines that are all delicious and very reasonably priced ($12 flights), and lots of room to sit and look out over the vineyard and the mountains. Also a great place for groups - we came with 12 people and had no issue finding a place to sit. Will absolutely be coming back!!
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
We had such a lovely time on the Vintners Tour! The tour, led by David, was very educational and fun. The vineyard is simply gorgeous. The wine great. It was a perfect day!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Crane Creek Vineyard exceeded expectations, AND the views were spectacular! As we arrived (in our RV) we could not pull into the main driveway, so we had to park across the street in the grassy overflow parking. The staff were knowledgeable about their wine, and we chose four based on their recommendations. We also ordered a charcuterie board ($30ish) which was a bit expensive for what it was. We enjoyed our time and the wine was ok (we enjoy sweet wine like moscato grapes) due to no sweet wines available. As we sat and tasted the wine, enjoying the views, and relaxing, you couldn't help but to fall in love with this spot. If you are in the area, stop in and give them a try.

Yelp
I was so excited to stop by. As I drove up, I would tell that it was going to be a beautiful experience. Everything on the property was perfectly placed. (It would be a gorgeous place to get married!). The views are unlike any other winery that I've been to. The three stars are because of the customer service. When I walked up, the man working, told me to hold on then began yelling the name of a customer repeatedly. After a short wait, he took my order. He was very short with me. "What do you like? You have to tell me more? I need more information than that." It was a bit off putting. I did enjoy the wine flight that I had. Each wine had distinct flavors and aromas. I preferred the Mountain Harvest White and the Mountain Harvest Blush. When it was time to check out, a different staff member helped me and she was very kind. I would definitely come back for the views!
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
This was a recommendation from my mother-in-law who has visited the vineyard many times. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I had the flight and my MIL raved about the Harvest White which I thought was very good as well. We sat out on the grass in the Adirondack chairs and what a view!!! The property is absolute stunning. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a stop!
google avatar

Haley W.

Yelp
Wonderful beautiful place and friendly staff, the wine was fantastic too!! Definitely try the Sassafras, Noiret, Enotah, and Old Man Rose.
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
Awesome experience! Wine was very good (especially the carbonated varieties!), staff was friendly and helpful, vibe was pleasant, and views were unmatched. 100% recommend for a girls' trip, day date, family outing, anything. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Beautiful winery and scenery. If I lived here I would be here often enjoying the sun and atmosphere. The reds here are great I settled on the hellbender red. A nice smooth red wine that was easy to drink. I ended up buying a bottle to take home. Definitely a great vineyard to visit if you are in the area!

Joe W.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing and the bonus is the on site restaurant. Won't disappoint! Get some!

Yelp
What an amazing experience and a true highlight of our Christmas trip to GA! We had a day to spare, drove to Walmart and did not want to return to our cabin just yet. I pulled out Yelp, and found this place. The gift shop is an old remodeled house from late 1800s, the spirit and culture is lovingly preserved. The lady in the shop is a fantastic source of knowledge and love. We sampled the wines and each found one or two to our liking. The veranda has heaters to make visitors comfortable on a chilly mountain day, additional firepits and armchairs allow larger companies to enjoy privacy and the view of the vinyards. The atmosphere is absolute relaxation and peace. Everything seems to be history, lovingly preserved even in the names of the wines. As we strolled down the road between the two ponds, we admired the manicured rows of the vines and the thought that hard work is put into this place by a true enthusiast. The "other side" is a more modern twist. When entering the tasting room, you somehow transport in time: from 1800s into XXI century. Clean lines, subtle colors, manicured exterior. We took home not only delicios Rosé, but a woderful memory and unique experience. We will be back! Thank you, dear owner, hope your family will preserve this treasure for many years so our children can enjoy it, when they get old enough of course!

Yelp
Two tasting rooms now. AMAZING place! Davis is the BEST host ever! Great location, good wine, beautiful view.

Yelp
One of our favorite wineries in Georgia. Very quaint and relaxing atmosphere. The owners and their employees are always hospitable and great hosts. Oh, and they have great wine!

Yelp
Great establishment I loved this place. My friends and I are visiting and had great drinks!

Yelp
Have had several guests come to visit us in Hayesville, NC, and have taken all of them to Crane Creek for an afternoon. Every single one of our guests absolutely loved the place. We knew they would! Great wine--absolute best staff and the views are stunning! Went back today and had a wonderful time and we will be back! Highly recommend a stop for anyone who travels to North Georgia. Simply the best!
google avatar

Stacey F.

Yelp
Beautiful and peaceful! I have not tried their food so I can't give an opinion on that yet. The views are tranquil and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We did a flight tasting of four wines for $12. My favorite wine is the Mountain Harvest White and my husband's is the Hellbender.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
We stopped by to do the tasting. I was slightly perplexed by the way they price their tastings. The give you "two" complementary BUT if you purchase the "6 tastings" you no longer get the two free. Seems odd to me. We had a lovely server who gave us excellent guidance. After the tasting we purchased two glasses of wine and sat outside. The property is beautiful and is shaded by lovely old trees! The dogs running around made the visit complete! Can not wait to visit again!
google avatar

Anna J.

Yelp
Wow! These people did an amazing job. The wine was AMAZING. The view was amazing and the cheese was delicious as well. They really live up to the hype. Such an amazing time. Do come visit.
google avatar

Anders N.

Yelp
A beautiful vineyard with a wonderful selection of wine! Came here with my Mom and we did the tasting along with several glasses of the Mountain Harvest Red (a tomato herb cheese plate thrown in). Donna was so kind to us and gave us a great tour of the selections of wines that were available! Please try the Mountain Harvest Red! If you love your red wines this is a great go to. For the white wines I would suggest the Mountain Blush or the Apfelwein, which had a lovely lingering apple taste. The Hellbender was also a big stand out. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area! A great spot to hang out while sipping amazing wine.
google avatar

Dinene H.

Yelp
So my husband and I had a weekend escape to the mountains and I absolutely loved this cute little quaint picturesque vineyard. It had a beautiful little courtyard and deck, a pond and a little farmhouse. The wine was quite yummy and perfect for a summer day like yesterday, and yes I know it is fall but it was still like 90 degrees outside! So we went into the tasting room and were told that we could try 1-2 wines for free, or 6 wines for 10 dollars. We could also buy a class of wine for $6, or a bottle of wine for around $20. The wines we tasted were all very light and pleasant. I decided on a glass of Apfelvein (I hope I spelled that correctly) which was like a glass of Granny Smith apples . So yummy! We paired it with a habenero smoked cheese and it was divine! We soaked in the views and it was just such a beautiful sweet place to stop in the middle of a mountain region! We loved it!

Yelp
I really can't even express how much we loved this place. The most beautiful views ever, great wines, kind staff and we made some amazing new friends. We just happened to find this place on Google while dog sitting for a friend in Hiawassee and we are certainly glad we did. We were there on a Friday when they had live music which was so good. We sat off to the side overlooking the vineyards but could hear the music in the background. You won't be disappointed here. Just look at my pictures.
