If I could give no stars I would.
If you are getting married and considering setting up a registry at crate and barrel, all I can say is DON'T DO IT! Unfortunately I did and after the wedding needed to return some items. I went to this crate and barrel to do it. Mind you I had all the original receipts for the items. Very long story short, when I returned the items there was a discrepancy between the amount of money we were owed and the amount we were issued. Manager (her name is Jessica F.) couldn't (wouldn't take the time to) figure out why. We figured it ourselves manually that the discrepancy was because they weren't refunding us the tax paid on the items. Again, we had all the original receipts and all items had been purchased within the 90 day window requirement to get tax back as stated by MA state law. Manager says she can do nothing for us and gives us a customer service number to call (which turned out to be wrong).
I find and call the right customer service number, much discussion. They tell me I need to resolve it with the store or call another customer service number they give me. I do both. Other customer service number is the president's office. They are very nice, tell me they will resolve my issue by the end of the day. They never call back. I call the C&B store I returned the items to originally. Much discussion with the manager on duty. She looks into our transaction and consults with the manager that returned the items - turns out the original receipts were not scanned when the return was made. This is why we were not getting the tax back. First WHAAAT?? How does a manager forget to scan receipts when making a return??? And fail to realize this when a discrepancy comes up - IN THE TAX? Second WHAAAT!?!?!?! The manager that performed the return claims that I didn't give her the original receipts. THIS IS A FLAT OUT LIE. Manager I am talking to tells me that what "she can do for me", is issue a shop card for the amount of the tax not refunded, which is "not their policy since I didn't have the original receipts" but she doesn't want me "to be frustrated by my experience" so this is what she's willing to do for me.
Lady, (her name is Patty) you're not doing me any favors, don't act for a second like you are. What you are actually doing is giving me the money I was rightfully due, ignoring the fact that not only is your other manager too incompetent to scan receipts correctly, she is lying to you and me, and, most upsetting, you are being incredibly disrespectful of the fact that it took me 3 hours to get to the point where refund my money! If you actually cared about maintaining customers, the very least you could have done is offer a discount coupon for my time or trouble but instead you just condescended to me. I am hopeful at best that C&B actually sends me a Shopcard for the amount due.
You have lots of choices about where to register for your wedding gifts. Don't discount the time that bad customer service will cost you during the already time consuming process of managing your wedding registry. Crate and Barrel's customer service just IS NOT up to snuff. I'm just writing about my experience at this store in particular because it went above and beyond awful, but we've had problems at other C&B stores during this process as well. And don't just take my word for it, there are many others who have had bad experiences with the customer service at C&B: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Crate_and_Barrel.
We've had a GREAT experience with Amazon.com, and have yet to encounter problems with Macy's or Williams Sonoma. If you must register at Crate and Barrel, then at the very least, just steer way clear of this Burlington location and of Patty and Jessica F.
