The Best Kitchen and Cooking Gift Ideas of 2025 | Eater

"A no-frills Marcato Atlas 150 pasta machine is a great gift for someone who keeps saying ‘going out to dinner?’ — it lets them make fresh pasta at home, and pairing it with a pasta cookbook (like American Sfoglino) makes the present extra special." - Bettina Makalintal

Crate and Barrel, Not this specific store has been the worst store I have ever dealt with. I ordered my living room from them. The couch fell apart immediately but they could have cared less. Spent 2k on chairs that have button popping out. Customer Service sucks, you can't call and get a hold of a human and then they changed CC companies and today I received a charge on my card that i can not get a hold of anyone to address. So years after I bought my living room, I am obviously still frustrated with the way what a should be "high end" store purchase went and is still going.

We had a great experience working with Lilly Gash at this store. She took her time helping us pick out a sectional couch and never made us feel pressured into buying. Great team here!

I really wanted to enjoy shopping here. As soon as I walked in, I was blasted with freezing air. I’ve never experienced such cold. It’s almost as if they’re trying to keep customers out. I saw other people leave immediately after they entered as well. Would like to come back without having to wear a snowsuit.

Great service and a great selection. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful even near closing time and clearly enjoy their work. Note that the entrance is next to L.L. Bean, not in the middle of the mall.

Guys get paid for the furniture, for its delivery then leave the job unfinished with large items in my garage. My car sitting outside in 90F weather for a week. No one follows up and impossible to get to their customer service, just a bunch of idiotic chat bots unable to comprehend and process simple issues, 1hr+ on hold phone calls.

This review is mainly for Miss Felicia K who is a C&B store associate at the Ross Park PA location, store #656. Felicia was exceptional in every possible way! I have had bad experiences with the customer service at the store in Lyndhurst, Ohio, and decided to call a location in another state nearby. I explained my past experiences with C&B, and Felicia was not only compassionate and understanding, but patient and kind. She treated me exactly as a customer should be treated. I called the Ross Park store to inquire as to whether or not I could have them pull an in stock store item from their shelf, ensure it was in new and excellent condition, for me and have it shipped directly to my home. Felicia didn't hesitate to help me. She was an absolute gem! I adore her fun personality. She worked with me over the phone to get my order in and I just received it today! The faux fur throw I ordered is indeed in perfect condition, and I can tell that my order was treated with care. From now on, I will call the Ross Park location and ask for Miss Felicia K to help me again with products and future orders, because Felicia went above and beyond and I couldn't be happier with the outcome of my experience through her with C&B. Thank you again Felicia! You are truly the BEST!!! :)

I ordered 4 units of counter stools in November 2024, have waited for shipment for 8+ months, still couldn’t get a shipment date. I’ve called them several times, was told there was no way to cancel the order and there’s a chance I could wait for 10 years. This sounds funny but that’s what the lady told me. For the record, the lady told me that on 6/5/2025 afternoon.

Had some really nice stuff. Also Not as expensive as some other places. Wish they had more outdoor furniture choices at store.

Yelp
My sofa was delivered after 3 1/2 months. I attached pictures to show the level of quality they believe to be acceptable for $2,800. I've had number contacts with customer service and the Ross park mall store. I want to return the sofa I do not want to replacement, and that is all that they are offering along with a store credit, and only half of the cost of the sofa. Why would I want to wait another three months? Why would I want another one of their completely crappy sofas? I reached out to the store manager Ashley once this sofa was received, and customer service only offered two options. I was hoping we could come to an understanding. Immediately upon picking up the phone, Ashleigh was inconvenienced by my call. She was huffing, and irritated sounding. I asked her to please not be inconvenienced by my call, but to hear my side of the story. She said I don't need to hear your side of the story. I already know what happened from everyone else. I'm aware of the situation and we've already given you your options. I practically begged her to listen to my experience, and she denied repeatedly. As we hung up the phone, I told her this is not over. I'm not going to sit back and roll over like your other customers have. No one deserves this treatment! The sales manager Terry who originally helped with this process. Was so annoyed that I came in four different times to look at couches that she actually rolled her eyes at me in front of me. This was a thought process for me, and I was very excited to get a sofa I thought my family and I were going to love, and they have absolutely turned this into a nightmare. I will also say I paid for this couch over the phone because I was attending a funeral in Texas. Terri took my credit card information over the phone and never once stated this is a final sale. I did not learn this until much later on. There's more to this story, of course but the bottom line is they won't return the piece of crap sofa that they delivered to me. I held up my end of the deal they did not. A close to your friend urged me not to purchase from Crate & Barrel. She had a horrific experience where they had to replace her sofa for different times because the colors didn't match and then the sofa didn't even hold up for three years. Before sagging occurred. I didn't listen, because I thought that was a one off. I can assure you since discussing in groups online. This is not the case. Maybe they used to be great? But they definitely are not now.

Yelp
I would like to give a "zero" as in "0" stars to Crate & Barrel. If you're ordering furniture from these guys, you are in for a long, long wait and a lot of disappointment. "how long will our 4 beds take to arrive"? "They should be here in 6-8 weeks". 5 months later, here we are sleeping on mattress' in our new vacation home with multiple delays so far. Today's debacle with the same order but different delivery of an ottoman and side table. We'll be there between 630pm and 830pm. Ok, we'll cancel our dinner plans for this deliver. 1 hour before delivery, a text saying they're on their way. 630pm. Phone call saying their truck broke down due to the rain. What? Rain broke your truck down? Really? Is your truck not waterproof? This is just a small taste of the nightmare we've experienced working with these clowns. And they are clowns. This was only part of a very large order to furnish our vacation home. I am warning you, do not do business with this company. They are horrific and will make your life miserable. Avoid at all costs unless you get some sort of guarantees related to delivery timing and/or cancellations or refunds. We tried canceling only to be told that our order was non-refundable. These people are criminals selling furniture..... that never comes. As you can tell, i've reached the end of my rope with this company.

Yelp
"Create a Barrel" is what a lot of hipsters opening their own wineries and breweries are trying to do these days. Especially in Pittsburgh. This place has nothing to do with that. This was my first ever Crate & Barrel, and I was expecting to hate it - because I have no feelings about furniture, I find it boring as hell. H & G TV, forget it. Flipped houses? Please don't bore me. Yawn. But you know what? Despite the extraordinarily high prices, I was actually impressed by a lot of the stuff at Crate & Barrel. Some really innovative items. Things that, if I were rich, I'd even consider buying. The service is really lovely too. But everyone loves C & B so I'm not really telling you anything you don't already know.

Yelp
Jane from Ross park mall store worst custom service around!! I am a bride who has been back and forth to the store multiple times and every time since my bridal shower and moving into our new home and 2 of the associates there kept allowing me to use my 15% off coupon and give it back telling me to bring it back in next time... well of course the one saturday I traveled to pittsburgh for a big return and order neither associate I knew was working so I go to Jane and hand her the 15% off coupon and she absolutely refused to give it to me stating I already used it and can't use it again so I told her about the other associates letting me use it multiple times and she proceeded to tell me that the other associates clearly don't know what they were doing and talked down to me. Absolutely so frustrating will never shop at this one again!

Yelp
Terrible sales woman'. She wore fishnet stockings. Told us all about herself inatead of selling the product. My husband told her something, I told her something else she then asks me "are you going to argue over this?" That is something no salesperson should say to a customer. She then sat on the sofa unladylike exposing her upper legs with her fishnet stockings, very unbecoming. I asked her a question, then she directs her answer to my husband. She just showed how inexperienced she is a salesperson. We purchased furniture elsewhere because crate and barrel was a total turnoff.

Yelp
I enjoy shopping at Crate and Barrel and was so happy to find out that Pittsburgh had a store when I moved here in 2010! It really fills the need of a modern, moderately priced furniture, home decor, and kitchen store in this city. My favorite thing to shop at Crate and Barrel is their glassware. They have a great selection, particularly of beer and wine glasses, at very reasonable prices. I also almost purchased both a dining set and living room sofa from here but changed my mind at the last minute. They carry beautiful dining sets, but I was disappointed to find out that they carry a lot of mango wood options, which scratch very easily. After reading reviews of the tables that I liked on their website, I quickly realized that a soft wood table would not work in my home. I also really liked the sofa that I found at C&B - good quality, nice fabrics. However, I ended up going with a more formal, less mid-century sofa from West Elm. I love two things in particular at Crate and Barrel. (1) Their customer service is friendly and helpful without becoming overbearing. (2) They have a fantastic custom fabric for furniture selection that can give you very custom gifts something that you.

Yelp
Still one of my favorite housewares/garden/cookware stores. I have purchased some of my cutest serving dishes here as well as my favorite glasses. Also, my favorite knives has also been purchased here as well as my favorite linen napkins and woven placements. I currently have my eye on a Sabine vase. The minute it goes on sale, it will be coming home with me. I have yet to purchase a major piece of furniture here. Because, well, I am not too hard on furniture, it seems to last me forever. I laugh at people that I know who compare Crate & Barrel to IKEA. One is a Pinto and the other is an Escalade. Customer service is always great here, too. They always carefully wrap my special treasures in a cocoon of heavy tissue paper to make sure they arrive at the hacienda in one piece. My latest favorite find is woven baskets and their Every Day Values department. I might have a leather ottoman in my future. Or sueded micro fiber. Or woven fabric. Another great thing about C&B, You can order swatches free of charge, so no lugging around swatch books. Love this store!

Yelp
We were recently visiting Pittsburgh to help our daughter furnish her new apartment. We want to compliment Jane our sales associate. She took the time to listen to us and assess my daughters needs. She was most helpful in helping us follow our decorating plan. We left with lovely things to help our daughter start a new career. It was a pleasure shopping in a store with so much personal assistance.

Yelp
Lots of people were excited for Pittsburgh to get it's first and only Crate and Barrel. I'm more of a IKEA person myself. This location is located outside of Ross Park Mall in a new space next to L.L. Bean. This location is really small compared to the Crate and Barrel in Legacy Village in Cleveland that I've been to. This location offers dishware, home and outdoor furniture, kitchen supplies, rugs and much more. The customer service could be better. The store was completely dead while we were there and the sales associates couldn't be bothered. They must think they are selling Rolls Royce's or something. People aren't spending like they use to. We are in a Great Recession after all! My wife and I were pretty much completely ignored the whole time we were in the store. Not to mention Crate and Barrel is really expensive when it comes to furniture. $900 for a wooden room divider? Really? You get the exact same quality of products at IKEA for a lot less money. You guys can keep Crate and Barrel. I'll stick with IKEA thank you!

Yelp
I am a sucker for these types of stores even more (I guess I am entering that phase of my life). So when they were having a 15% off Memorial Day weekend sale, of course we could not help but go and see what we can find for the house. We were quite excited to find that we could get the Kitchenaid Mixer that we had wanted and save a nice chunk of change on it. What would have normally cost us about $450 soon became slightly more justifiable at $390. They actually had the item in stock which was better too so we would not have to wait. The staff is always pretty friendly here, and they always have neat stuff that matches our tastes. Given the location of the store (not too far from the city where we live), our history of good experiences, and the fact that we have never had a problem or bad experience here, we will definitely be back and recommend this location for all of your home furnishing needs.

Yelp
How come when you order an umbrella from Crate and Barrel's website do they have you choose a color for the shade if the shade doesn't actually come with the umbrella? This is the question I have been asking myself since we started dealing with this problem last Friday (it is now Tuesday). Crate and Barrel's customer service (both in store, at corporate and at their warehouse) is absurd. The lack of effort put in by these folks is inexcusable. I had to directly contact a warehouse in New Jersey (because the folks at the store were being too passive and waiting for an email response for two days). The person I talked to there actually helped me. If you are having trouble with an order from Crate and Barrel give these folks a call at 609-819-0100. This is the number to the actual warehouse (not some call center that won't actually help you). Go to the source of the problem not someone sitting at a desk.

Yelp
I headed here after a pretty awful experience with west elm, and I wasn't disappointed. Despite being a little bit of a hike outside of the city, there's a great selection here of modern (but not overly modern) upscale furniture that has been doing its job well so far. Delivery options were also fairly inexpensive and the service was attentive but not overly agressive - hard to find at a lot of furniture stores.

Yelp
This is the absolute worst experience I have had with a furniture store EVER! I just moved to Pittsburgh from San Diego, and tried to buy some bedroom furniture. I started this process in early Dec as soon as I got here and it has been a continual nightmare ever since. I order the Dawson bedroom set. The bed showed up fairly soon after I bought it, but the slats at the bottom of the bed are extremely wobbly and obviously weren't assembled correctly by Crate and Barrel. I could not even get Crate and Barrel (or their contractor who fixes furniture) to **make an appointment** to come out and look at it let alone actually show up. Three weeks of this, and still couldn't even get an appointment set up for someone to look at my extremely uncomfortable bed. The rest of the bedroom set was back-ordered, which I did know when I bought it, but the date when the rest of it was available kept moving further and further out. I FINALLY just told them to cancel the entire order, pick up the bed, and refund all of my money. This was a week ago Friday, (so 9 days now) and they CANNOT even get their act together to come and get the bed, or even schedule a firm date and time with me to do so to get this piece of junk out of my house! I keep repeating to them that I work, so can't be home at any random time or with only 2 seconds notice to be here for a pick-up. I bought a bedroom set from Arhaus instead. More expensive, yes, but totally worth it not to have to deal with these kind of headaches and ridiculous disorganization. I also bought living room furniture from IKEA in Pittsburgh when I got here, and had it assembled....this was extremely low maintenance and easy. Bottom line, just go somewhere else and spend your money on furniture!!
