Atlanta Is in Its Soft Clubbing Era | Eater Atlanta

"A downtown record store that leans into the movement with daytime DJ sets, turning crate-digging into a low-key day party." - Caroline Eubanks

Whenever I travel, I like to check out a local record store or two, and during my visit to Atlanta, Crates ATL was just a mile walk from my hotel—perfect for some solo exploring while my wife was in a meeting. The shop itself has a great vibe and clearly caters to serious vinyl collectors, especially those into soul and R&B. That’s not really my lane—I’m more into folk and rock—so I didn’t quite find myself in their target audience. Most of the albums I was drawn to were a bit out of my price range for a spur-of-the-moment stop. That said, I did manage to dig up a nice surprise: Grass Roots Greatest Hits tucked away in a random section. Not a life-changing find, but one I’ll enjoy spinning, and at a fair price. I will say, I was hoping the shop would lead into a more walkable shopping area, but it’s pretty isolated. Still, if you’re a soul enthusiast or a dedicated crate digger, Crates ATL is worth a stop.

If you love vinyl, this is the place for you. They offer a large assortment of classics and current hits. A welcoming location with a chill vibe. The soft opening was great and filled with amazing people. Crates offers merchandise from local vendors including candles, incense, and other unique items. The customer service was top notch.

Crates ATL – A Vinyl Lover’s Dream Crates ATL is easily one of the best record stores I’ve ever stepped into. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable visit. The vibe is calm, friendly, and unpretentious—perfect for digging through crates without any pressure. The space itself is spotless, beautifully decorated, and impressively organized. Every record was in excellent condition, thoughtfully categorized, and easy to browse. You can tell they really care about curation and presentation. The selection is fantastic, with a great mix of genres and rare finds—all at very fair prices. Add to that a top-tier sound system playing chill music at just the right volume, and you’ve got an environment that’s both inspiring and relaxing. If you love vinyl, good vibes, and good people, Crates ATL is a must-visit.

I stopped by this place once I got done with the South Downtown tour and I’m glad I did. If you’re into music, then a record store is one of your favorite places to be. They have a good selection of music and are adding other genres such as rock, pop, etc. They also sell candles, scents, puzzles, coffee/tea mugs, etc. It’s a whole vibe in there. If they don’t have what you’re looking for, they’ll order it for you. I experienced great customer service. Daryl was a great help and real cool. I did find a Kool & The Gang record that was for a good price so you can’t go wrong with that. I will definitely be back and highly recommend anyone to check this place out. You won’t be disappointed.

Decent spot with a mix of records and other music related merch. Good selection of used vinyl. The new stuff can get a bit pricey. Some of the used records I purchased pictured below.
