Here’s The Timeline For LA County’s Restaurant Closings/Reopenings During COVID | Eater LA

"I noted that Studio City owner Rana Shalhoub of Crave Cafe was ordered by the Department of Building and Safety to remove a vinyl banner that read "open for takeout and delivery" and was slapped with a $356 fine with no prior warning; she removed the sign after receiving the notice, and several neighboring businesses were hit with similar notices and fines." - Eater Staff

LA Fines Restaurants and Businesses For Posting ‘We’re Open’ Signs During Pandemic | Eater LA

"During the pandemic this Studio City cafe's owner, Rana Shalhoub, was ordered by the Department of Building and Safety to remove a vinyl banner that read "open for takeout and delivery" and was hit with a $356 fine with no prior warning; she removed the sign. The incident highlights enforcement of a city rule requiring permits for signs and banners, with fines due within 30 days (rising to $1,176 if unpaid), and mirrors similar notices sent to neighboring businesses." - Mona Holmes

I just had the best dessert ever, the nice young man with the tattoos recommended the chocolate chip bread pudding it was absolutely delicious! I’ll definitely be coming back for more. I love the vibes and atmosphere here. Looking forward to returning with my family. Thank you, Crave Café Studio City! 👏🙌

Google
Ok,here we go, I had been at Crave on encino and I promise myself never come back, everything went wrong and bad, BUT the locate at Studio City got 5 ⭐ from me, first at all to ms. Diana and the tall blond guy( I was to shy to ask his name 🙈) they both my time smoother and great. Everything went on point. 🎉🎉🎉

My new favorite spot! The people were all extremely friendly, and the food and matcha were great. Can't wait to try more stuff on the menu the desserts looked outstanding. Happy hour from 5-7pm was so clutch and it wasn't too crowded so I was able to work in peace (WIFI was a major plus). 10/10 would recommend.

Google
Great place for a great meal! Ambiance, friendliness, cleanliness, and the quality of food earns Crave Cafe a 5 star place. Jase and Giovanni were incredibly helpful and took very good care of us, all 22 of us! Thank you, Jase, Giovanni, and your team.

Perfect low-key spot to grab some delicious food and post up with your computer and/or friends. Super friendly service, clean and stylish interior and good vibes for days.

Google
Great food, service and atmosphere. Dianna was very helpful with recommendations on the food, and she was right. Too many desert choices. Greta first time experience.

Google
My girlfriend suggested this location, and from the way she described it, I assumed it would be a dine-in establishment as the last time she went there was when she was younger. Anyhow, as I entered the cafe, the mood wasn't what I had anticipated. Although the ambiance is fantastic, it's not my style. The music they were playing because it was more hip hop/rap than the relax, chill music that cafes play. Customer service is decent. I ordered a breakfast burrito with wheat bread, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. The typical breakfast items that my partner ordered—hash browns, pancakes, and eggs—were all excellent. Also delicious was the lemonade. Additionally, sweet potato fries were ordered, which I thoroughly enjoyed. You must have the sweet potatoes! Other than that, I love the food, but I didn't feel at home there. Nevertheless, I'd go back. Note: Restrooms are available for customers

Google
Crave started out as a promising experience, but quickly turned into a dumpster fire. My first time at Crave is also my last. To start out, Crave is very expensive for what it is. It’s similar to quick-serve at a theme park. You place your order at the counter, and they give you a number. Coffee is a whopping $5.00. Small Lemonade. Same thing. The cashier taking the orders was friendly, and accommodating. That was where I ordered the Chicken and Waffles, with a side of Bacon and a Lemonade. My total came to nearly $30. When I went to pay, I attempted to leave a tip before being informed that the company takes all the credit card tips, leaving nothing for the service staff. I’m sorry, but if I’m paying $30 for a cheap breakfast, the last thing I would want to do is chip in another 20% to the company coffers. The fact they don’t disclose this is shady, and reason enough to make me not want to return, but it gets worse. After waiting nearly 25-minutes for my food, it wasn’t remotely tasty. The waffles were ice cold and stale. The bacon was soggy and wet, and the chicken tenders were unappealing. The food runner with the blue Mohawk has an absolutely vile attitude. She was crass, unhelpful and absolutely useless if you need anything at all, aside from dumping a plate of food onto various tables. Every request I made was met with an unfriendly sigh, followed by a less-than-friendly response, and zero follow-through. I asked for sauce for the tenders, which never came. After asking twice, and another ten minutes of waiting, I politely took my plate to the counter and asked for a refund, which was promptly given. The many reviews about the mega-poor service and the highly-overpriced, less-than-tasty food are true. I would avoid Crave, even as a last-option.

Yelp
I've never visited during the day, but past midnight, good luck finding better sourced food & a place to chow down after a rowdy night Shoutout to Jace for being attentive, friendly, and a darn good host

Yelp
Located in the corner of the Trader Joe's shopping center by Laurel Canyon Bl The set up is cool . There is an outside patio . The food is good, the pesto on my Breakfast Croissant was very tasty. 18 dollars, a little bit much. Service is ok. It's not a big place. Not impressed, Sorry to say.

Yelp
The closest I can get to an adequate description of this cafe is a train station restaurant. You eat, can hang out a bit if you wish, and then go on your way. I didn't get a very welcoming or cozy feeling from it at all. The cashier/waitress was pretty apathetic and almost curt, until I tipped well. The food was about average; Norms comes to mind. The other server that I interacted with was very kind and had much better customer service than the cashier. All in all, a pretty bland experience. It's hard to recreate the chain restaurant effect in a small business(although, I know Crave Cafe has more than one location), but they've done it here. It's Denny's with a few differences.

Yelp
Why is it so hard to make the correct order? It has happened three times. 2 people ordering one item each but still can't get it made right.
google avatar

Stavo S.

Yelp
Eve and Diana are the best! Always warm and welcoming, they make us a pleasure to visit, on top of that, the food is consistently tasty! Thank you.
google avatar

Lynette D.

Yelp
A cozy environment with an amazing variety. Well presented pastries in the front. I usually go to the Crave in West Hills, and I feel this location has much more reasonable prices. Friendly service here as well.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious I loved it I do recommend this place to orthers very good places

Yelp
Would recommend crave cafe if your in town 10 out of 10 come try there breakfast burrito which is super delicious with the green salsa is the bomb

Yelp
It's simple that when you're looking for a late night hangout that serves decent coffee, decent pastries and even has a grill to make tasty stuff at 1:30am, you find Crave tucked into the strip mall that houses the Trader Joe's a few doors down and are immediately happy you found this place. So many of the former late night places all closed that you'd think you're stuck with convenience store machines, but here you'll find friendly service and a good variety of eats that just hits the spot. There's plenty of mall parking at night (a little crowded during the day) and they do make lots of stuff from breakfast to desserts.Patio seating available that's dog friendly. Some V/V+ options available.

Yelp
Service and staff are always on point and friendly, vibe is super chill to eat in. my favorite thing off their menu is the Chinese chicken salad, sounds basic but it is Top tier !!!

Justin K.

Yelp
I leave one star not for the food, and not for the service. I HOPE EVERYONE SEES THIS... I run a bar in Hollywood... and I know how important tips are for service industry employees. The employees of this establishment told me tonight on 2 different occasions that they DONT GET ANY TIPS left oncredit card/tap transactions, only cash. All tips left go to the house/ownership, and I myself left a substantial tip. These people worked so hard tonight and I assume every night, to get the job done for the patrons. I will never come back here again due to the way these people are treated. It's disgraceful, and disgusting, shame on ownership.

Yelp
This is one of my best go to spots in Los Angeles! The food is amazing, the staff is always friendly and helpful! One of my favorites is their Tuna salad! The ingredients make it so different, and the size, definitely has me getting a doggie bag..lol
google avatar

Tigran N.

Yelp
Place is good because they are open late and have comfortable seating. Customer service is also good. 3 stars is for the food and price. I got a burrito asada ($18) which was mostly rice and tasted average at best. Most Mexican food spots are $12 and load it up properly. I will give them another try and order something else.
google avatar

Caren Jocie O.

Yelp
Love the Panini Bread. But they didn't have my favorite dried tomatoe on the side, other than that I will never get tired of craving for Paninis and their Crepes
google avatar

Gina J.

Yelp
My kids will always be down for some breakfast food, so it's nice to come to a place that has really great breakfast and lunch options. Service is usually pretty quick, and I feel like I've been lucky to not catch them at a super busy time. The vibe is really chill. You seat yourself after ordering, and the food comes to your table. They have a few TVs on that show a random assortment of old and new movies. Chocolate chip pancakes were a hit with the kids. I got the grilled chicken crepe which was good, but pretty heavy on the onions for my liking. We ended with a chocolate bread pudding, and I would that that a 100 more times.

Yelp
My wife, son and I were looking for a restaurant near the house and we remembered seeing it and thought we went to a different one once and liked it, so decided to come to this one and try it out. We ordered a Angus Beef Burger, Portobello Mushroom Entre and a Turkey Burger, all of which were very, very good. The serving of the Portobello Mushroom was large and my wife ate about half and took the other half home for the next day. Ana was the lady who took our order and was very nice, talkative, fun and helpful in helping us make a decision as to which food to order. Victor was our server and helpful as well. The restaurant is long and narrow but we had no problem with getting a table for the three of us. It was fairly empty when we got there but seemed to have a few pickup orders as we saw people come in and get their orders. We will definitely come back!
google avatar

Zariah W.

Yelp
The food was sooooo good! This was my first time at this location and it did not disappoint! The service was amazing too! Diana was sooo kind and helpful! Definitely will be back at this one!

Yelp
I don't think this place gets enough credit. I've lived in Studio City for 5 years and it's been consistently good. I personally think their Chinese chicken salad is better than the overrated Joan's on Third one. They have good service and a rather large menu too.
google avatar

Rebecca K.

Yelp
We came here to get their famous red velvet cake...met with "oh we sold out but we have Tiramisu"...took it to go...get home and was given the most ROCK SOLID CHOCOLATE BULLSHIT

Yelp
Crave Cafe - Studio City aka CC#2 is an extension of Crave Cafe Sherman Oaks aka the OG/original. It's not as spacious, definitely more boutique style restaurant cafe compared to its older sibling location. Located off Ventura Blvd (like CC - Sherman Oak) but near the intersected street of Laurel Canyon - technically at Ventura Blvd & Ventura Place with entrances and exits from Laurel or the Venturas. This hidden spot sit back behind the old Du-Par's (now Sephora), near/in the same lot with Trader Joe's, Mendocino Farms more than a handful of small and local businesses. Needless to say the parking lot stays busy! If you're dining in you get a full experience, however ordering delivery is something to be noted as the prices with free Wi-Fi, entertainment (tvs or music), gender neutral restrooms, customer service and more. It's not as warm (inviting) as the Sherman Oaks location for me. Service is pretty legit and kind, family owned and doing their best, but definitely could use a revamp in a few areas, a little can go a long way. For Delivery/Pickup - I've gotten combo meals without fries or a side that clearly should be apart of the experience.... Not sure why but that's happened more than a few times. That said grateful for the extensive options and veggie/vegan/vegetarian friendly menu - the Vegan Cheese Pizza is a favorite! The tacos and burgers are a more than okay, food can be oil heavy depending on what it is. Things have even out (pricing, quality, etc) a little not changing too much in the last 4 years... No longer 24 hrs but they are open as early as 7AM until 2 AM every single day of the week - with a 3AM extension on Fridays and Saturdays only.

Yelp
Great late night spot for the cravings, always with friendly service from Jace and the crew
google avatar

Yelp
Tried the grilled chicken panini with buffalo mozzarella. Pretty dry and bland. The chai latte was bomb though When I first walked in, there were 2 employees talking amongst them. After a few minutes one of them finally said hello. The only plus of the visit was the WiFi, was able to get some work done.
google avatar

Ebbi S.

Yelp
Great food only bad part they raised the prices a little too much over the past two years and they shortened their hours. But they still have a good selection

Alexandria G.

Yelp
Dustin has great customer service! Seemed very busy but still available to help. Was able to get my refill on my drink. Food was delicious though.
google avatar

Jenifer N.

Yelp
The service was relatively quick after ordering from the counter. The drinks, pepperoni artisan flatbread pizza, and oreo brownie was okay and wasn't mindblower. The only thing was that the Pepperoni Artisan Flatbread Pizza had too much oil after one slice, which can be seen in the photo.

John S.

Yelp
This place is the best, the coffee amazing. I would go everyday if I was rich!! Best place ever especially Diana

Ismael G.

Yelp
Crave is AMAZING!!!! I love them sooo much! The staff is soooo amazing even though they can be passive aggressive at times. Diana is a G and always hooks us up and lets us talk up a storm about our lives! Best Espresso Shots ever!

Fuzzie-LT F.

Yelp
Amazing food here, Diana is the best! Would 100% recommend to everyone. Crave is the best food place in the area, so amazing.
google avatar

Greg K.

Yelp
Pretty rough experience. Ordered food for lunch for me and a coworker to pick up. It took over half an hour to get the food - I don't know if they lost the order or what - and when I got back to work, they forgot the cream cheese for my coworker's bagel, and the jalepenos for her omelette. There was either no cheese or verrrrry little cheese on my breakfast burrito - it tasted mostly of dry potatoes with a couple chunks of sausage scattered in there. Probably the most tasteless breakfast burrito I've had. I dunno, I've heard good stuff about Crave but this was a pretty poor experience.
google avatar

Kat R.

Yelp
Super yummy food! The people here are very sweet and well informed. Very cool and quiet place to study during the weekday

Wyatt T.

Yelp
Diana is the best! So thrilled with the new happy hour deal too. Honestly, their tacos slap. There are so many standbys in LA that are closing but it's so good to see Crave sticking around and better than ever!

Karla B.

Yelp
The Nutella crepe is amazing. I would recommend it and Diana gives a great service. The place is clean and enjoyable.
google avatar

Daniel I.

Yelp
Service is fantastic. The food is incredible. Many vegan options fresh they have large TVs soft music so you can work plugs everywhere on the wall for power for your computer. Good Internet what else can you ask?

Karina H.

Yelp
This place is a total rip off. I stopped by today and ordered their quiche that cost $15. The server literally brings me a little quiche they bought at Trader Joe's next door for $4.99. All they did was heat it up and sprinkle some cheese. Very disappointing and I don't appreciate being taken advantage of. What I really wanted to do was return the plate and get my money back but I didn't want to bust a Karen. Anyway, I will never dine here again and I would advise anyone, don't waste your money here.
google avatar

Patricia M.

Yelp
I was craving something sweet and I stumbled across this place that is 10 minutes away from me and what can I say?? This place is absolutely delicious. The service was okay, but the food was fabulous. I'll be back for sure!
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Nice cafe to meet up with friends or dine solo. Menu is huge with great lunch options. Their dessert is the main star, specifically the carrot cake. Also enjoy their selection of tea. The mint one comes with real mint leaves which is a nice touch!

Adam A.

Yelp
Anna was unbelievable! She added extra avocado to my salad and it was one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. Thank you guys so much five stars.!!

Wyatt Y.

Yelp
The creepers we're absolutely delicious Diana was a peach. Amazing service. Would recommend the mermaid lemonade because you get free refills.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Fantastic service! Great hang out spot. I love that they have so many food and drink options
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Nice place to hang with friends. Crepes are wonderful! Yummy in the tummy. Ambiance is great. Service great. Variety of food to choose from!
google avatar

Cynthia A.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken sandwich and it wasn't the best taste. The fries were fine but I think i'd try to go back for breakfast.
google avatar

Manuk D.

Yelp
The pesto chicken sandwich was very good, it was warm, cheesy and very tasty. They were very nice at the counter. The only issue I had here was the parking but that's not their fault.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Veggie burger was amazing and service was on point! Loved Diana....super gracious and helpful!

Shaunte K.

Yelp
Was never the best experience, service not great .but this time was my worst experience ever. The steak plate was disgusting and nothing but raw and fat not as described on the menu .Vegetables looked and tasted from last week , rice bad too . After complaining was giving different dish and it was even worst ! This place became a total disappointment.!

Cheyenne H.

Yelp
The food here is soooo yummy the cooks put extra love into every dish that they serve especially the kitchen manager Andres. I know when he is here the food will always be amazing.
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
I'm rather bummed about this place, since their menu looked really appetizing. I had ordered a turkey panini and while I was hungry enough to scarf it down, it arrived to my table on the colder side and while I had asked for it to have mozzerella in it, there was none to be found. To accompany the food I had a strawberry smoothie such was okay, and probably the best thing about my meal, since I had also ordered a red velvet cookie that had a lackluster texture but workable. I personally believe that for what I ordered, nothing was really worth the price either which is rare of me to say. I'm not eager to give this place a second visit, but I'm sure that even the best restaurants have an off day. I will need to visit another day when the opportunity strikes.

Yelp
There are two restaurants called Crave in the valley. This one is not affiliated with the Crave Cafe' in Sherman Oaks. Food: Most of the food was served luke warm. Eggs were cold. The pancakes were burnt. Hash Browns were oily. It actually amazed me that the server thought it was ok to serve the pancakes burnt. The restaurant was empty except for us. Service- considering that you have to place your order at the cashier & your food is brought to the table - there was zero follow up with checking back to see if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. Ambiance- cute little place. However, one of the servers decided to use a cleaning spray on the windows which then caused the restaurant to smell like cleaning products. Either clean before you open the doors or afterwards when you're closed. We won't be coming back.

Lauren W.

Yelp
My favorite crepe stop!! Love the atmosphere, great place to work remotely. Dianna is always a great help.

Sara B.

Yelp
Their food and coffee is amazing! The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, Definitely coming back
