Yesterday I was on a mission. I got a text on my way to my doc appointment, notifying me of the Dubai Chocolate cupcake at CRAVE.
Here's some background. I used to patronize CRAVE weekly when they first opened. CRAVE and the old location of Dessert Gallery on Post Oak were my sweet treat playgrounds. But over time, as the expensive cupcake trend has grown and I come into the city less, CRAVE and I have grown apart. But it's the texts that sometimes pique my interest and bring us back together. Yesterday was such a day.
So boom, I finish running my Galleria errands. I successfully find a parking spot in the back of Uptown Park, finally.
I walk in. CRAVE is packed. I get in line, coincidentally right in front of where the Dubai cupcakes are staged. I watch as a baker gingerly places one, then two, then four of the five remaining in a box.
But alas, there's one left.
And then, the gentleman in front of me requests it.
Heartbroken after my day of fasting and looking forward to my last treat before a Whole 30 month, I sadly have to pivot my order. I chose the Skinny strawberry.
I mentioned to the gentleman that he crushed my cupcake dreams. My attendant told me the cupcake was sold out, but just as I pulled up my cashapp to pay, another angelic attendant came to the counter and revealed there were more Dubai cupcakes on the way. Hooray!
Enough storytime. I got the cupcake and noticed a lone wedding cake cupcake too. I'm enamored by almond flavored treats, so I grabbed that too.
Here are my thoughts.
The Dubai is different. It's unique. I've never been a fan of CRAVE's chocolate. It used to give me headaches. This has smooth dark chocolate that's not overpowering. It's a adorned by crushed pistachios (see pic). Inside there is a pistachio filling with some kind of cream, not caramel, but something delicious. It was a nice treat - worth the wait. I'll try lt again next year.
The wedding cake was below average for wedding cake. The flavor seemed to be only present in the icing.
But the cupcakes were both beautiful. They made for a nice final treat before my month long journey into wellness.
As always, I appreciate CRAVE offering utensils so I can enjoy small bites on my way home.
CRAVE, join inKind!
