The Best of Houston’s 2025 Crawfish Season Is Still to Come | Eater Houston

"Co-owner Julie Duong says the Viet-Cajun spot began selling a limited amount of crawfish in November from a trusted purveyor’s test harvests, moved to more consistent mid-December deliveries, and is currently selling crawfish for around $12 per pound with expectations that prices will fall. She highlights customer eagerness: “They missed it so much, they want to get their fix in.” Duong also explains early-season quality issues: farmers sometimes catch leftover crawfish that are still alive from the previous year, resulting in “hollow tails,” described as “insides of malnourished crawfish that appear dark and often yield little meat,” which she says is a sign of dormancy and malnourishment rather than cooking dead." - Brittany Britto Garley

We were seated instantly, but once seated the wait was a little longer than expected to order. After 30 minutes we stopped the host walking by and had to remind her we were there and didn’t have a waitress yet. Someone came immediately. I still rate 5 stars because everyone served, stopped, answered questions, and helped us with a genuine smile even when they weren’t our waiter. The food was good. I can’t remember the names of what we got, but the pictures will show you. I’d recommend giving them a try.

Great place, clean organized staff! It was a Lil bit on the warm side on the inside of the restaurant for a hot summer day. They were out of a lot of menu items , other than that it was good . Def will come again. Great first time experience! L.J. is a wonderful waiter , excellent customer service!!

Ironic that a place with "CRAWFISH" in their name has such sad crawfish... Bummer. RATING: 1/5 for the crawfish 3/5 overall (redemption for the rest of the meal being pretty good & points added for solid service) Crawdads were super tiny. Overcooked, soggy, and shriveled. Very hard to peel & barely able to extract any meat. The place has a lot of potential, though. The garlicky Viet-Cajun seasoning/sauce in the boil was finger licking delicious. The shrimp were excellent (jumbo size, cooked perfectly & super easy to peel).... They also have really good apps & appetizers (light & crispy okra, phenomenal garlic noodles & yummy rice plates). The venue is clean & well-kept (a hand washing station conveniently accessible to customers) & attentive service. ...but ugh, what a lousy batch of crawfish! Very disappointing. ( Maybe they should change the name.)

First time here! Despite the reviews! I Love it so far. Also I love that they have a point system. Our waited LJ! He was down to earth yet professional, and very knowledgeable and also had great recommendations ! Pricing was very reasonable. Love the option for sides they offer with the combos! Portions were great! Food was great. Location is awesome as well!

Crawfish Cafe – Where Cajun Flavors Shine Crawfish Cafe is the go-to spot if you’re craving fresh, flavorful Cajun seafood boils. Known for their juicy crawfish and bold seasoning blends, this place serves up a messy (in the best way) and memorable feast. Food Their crawfish are consistently fresh and cooked to perfection — juicy, tender, and well-seasoned. You can choose from a variety of sauces, including their house signature, garlic butter, Thai basil, and more. The Crawfish Cafe Mix is a must-try: rich, buttery, and packed with flavor. The boils come with corn, potatoes, and sausage that soak up all that tasty sauce. If you want to switch it up, their shrimp, crab, clams, and mussels are also excellent choices. Spice Levels From mild to extra hot, there’s something for every heat preference. If you love spicy food, their higher levels bring serious heat without overpowering the flavor. Drinks They offer a solid selection of beer and micheladas that complement the seafood perfectly. Service The staff are friendly, efficient, and happy to help with sauce or spice recommendations if you’re unsure what to order. Orders come out quickly even when the restaurant is busy. Atmosphere Laid-back, casual, and always bustling — it’s a great place for groups, date nights, or a fun family dinner. They provide gloves and bibs, so you can focus on enjoying your meal without worrying about the mess. Value Portions are generous, and prices are fair for the quality of seafood you’re getting. Combo options are a great value, especially for groups. Final Verdict Crawfish Cafe delivers fresh seafood, bold Cajun flavors, and a fun, hands-on dining experience. If you’re looking for a satisfying seafood boil, this is the spot.

Google
Cris was great ! He had good energy and was real friendly with me and my mom on Mother’s Day even though it was really busy , they described each drink and offered recommendations and suggestions which was pretty cool and helpful because I didn’t know much about the drinks or food. If you come here ask for cris ! Totally recommend this place !

Google
Great team with awesome customer service, food is amazing and very delicious. We had the king crab legs with added sausage with potatoes and eggs. That garlic butter and lemon pepper sauce together on that boil is truly wonderful. You must come eat here.

So yummy! The butter noodles and boudin eggrolls were my favorite. Definitely satisfied the seafood craving. Food came out fast, waitress was attentive, and the servings are big for price.

Yelp
Crawfish Cafe will always be my #1draft pick for crawfish. I've been an avid follower of the restaurant ever since they opened up the first location on Bellaire (iykyk) and was stoked to see that one of my favorite places to eat opened up on the northside of town. WOOHOO! Love to see some Viet-Cajun representation. The food was delicious as always. If you're on the fence about wich flavor to get - get the grail. It's my absolute fav. For some reason I just can't help but feel the original location is always the best. Still really good regardless. The service could use some work. Our server was friendly and welcoming but the issues started further down the line. When my food came to the table, it was already kind of cold... giving the impression that it sat in the kitchen for a fat minute before being dropped off at the table. The second issue is that once the food was dropped off at the table, it was really difficult to flag down a server. It was also really discouraging to see servers almost try to avoid eye contact with us. On multiple occasions, we'd successfully flag down a server only for them to say we need to flag down our orginal server instead and then walk away.... Luckily we didn't need too much assistance, so we finished our food and went on our merry way. The food is awesome, I'd reccomend this place to anyone and everyone. If the team could work on imnproving the customer service, this place would be a 10/10.

Yelp
My niece flew in from the UK and has never tried crawfish or crabs. This place came to mind because I had recently gone to an event and saw them and tried their crawfish beignets. They were sooo delicious. At the event I received two coupons that said I'd get a beignet with a $20 purchase so I brought them. As expected for a Saturday night, the place was packed, couldn't even get parking near the restaurant. The restaurant was busy but we got seated in no time because people were going and coming. Since she's just trying and we aren't sure what she'd like we got what she knew she would like which is wings and fries. Then we ordered two different boil combo. Combo 2 and 3 with addition of sausage. She liked the flavors of the sauces but one of the boils didn't have much sauce, it was too dry but our server quickly got us some when asked. We showed the coupons for the beignets and he said he'd never seen those before and would get more info from his manger which he did and brought us 6, 3 for each coupon, which was more than I expected but I appreciated because they are so good! Drinks were fine had the frozen margs and a New Orleans lemonade and diet cokes. Loved the playful paper on the table. We played tic tac toe while we waited in between meals. Kids were able to draw and color with crayons and they also had cartoons on the tvs for the kids and sports on others for adults. Music was on but it wasn't overbearing. We were able to communicate and enjoy our meal without a lot of noise even though it was a busy night.

Yelp
I will start out saying that the service was impeccable so ask for Ashanti. She was 5 stars! The food was ok and sort of disappointing. Actually, definitely disappointing. Best thing I ate was the fries from my kids meal. The crawfish was overcooked and the flavors were lacking. Don't get me wrong, tons of flavor but was missing something that makes you want more. This was the first time ever that I didn't want to finish my crawfish, my husband did. We also had the Vietnamese chargrilled oysters and those seemed like a bad copy of the ones at Cajun Kitchen. I would not recommend and would not return to this location. Sometimes original is the only good store.

Yelp
We love Crawfish Cafe so much! Everything here is so good and delicious. Service is always good and the vibes are super chill. We get the grilled oysters all the time. It is so good chargrilled or with the scallions. The fried rice is always so flavorful. The fried fish is crispy and flaky and yummy. The drinks are good. So glad they added more flavors to their frozen drinks. I love how this place is so close to us because The Woodlands has been needing a restaurant like this !

Yelp
Loud in the restaurant. Food is good portions and semi good flavor. Feel like it could have a little more spice flavoring for Queso, corn in a cup and crawfish. My boiled headless shrimp was delicious and clean tasting. Parm wings are good and come in all flats if you ask. I like they have coke zero. Most restaurants lack alot of diet soda options.

Yelp
We flew into Houston and was craving crawfish. Since my cousin lives in the north metro we stopped by this restaurant before they closed. They were busy too, lots of people dining. Big restaurant, nicely lit, located in a shopping area. The sauce we chose was delicious, it was the signature with garlic butter and kicked Cajun. I also missed eating etouffee and grilled oysters, I had to order that too.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Hadn't been in a while, but still top notch! They have some new menu combo items, but my favorite garlic noodles are still the best. I would recommend offering a blue cheese option for people who do not like ranch on their wings. I did get creative with some lemon wedges, pepper, and mayo to make my own dipper. That made a food runner crack up. Great job as always.

Yelp
Third time back crawfish was truly not in season which server mission it was it was size of my pinky hand. Along with the sauce for the crawfish, we choose it was water down butter no intense flavor of Thai basil or the garlic or coconut more like just butter and a touch of the other half. Not sure if it was just closing time. We walked in at 9:15 PM. They close 10PM, ordered two dozen oyster, 3 pounds crawfish, half dozens, bake styles scallion oysters. I regret coming in.

Yelp
After visiting the Montrose location I was soooo excited to see there was one right in my backyard!!! Definitely a must for amazing crawfish while they are not huge the combination of spices in their signature sauce was to die for!! A fantastic Cajun/Vietnamese blend that will not disappoint. There are definitely other sauces to try but I haven't been able to pull away from the signature just yet. Don't forget the mushroom and boiled egg! Not a crawfish fan - there are lots of other fun foods to try! Boudin link or balls and the Garlic Noodles are a MUST! The staff is young and friendly and definitely add to the classic cafe style. Love that they provide bibs and gloves! I'll definitely be back again and again!

Yelp
I tried this restaurant one evening and ended up having to sit outside on the patio since it was so busy. They could have cleaned up tables more quickly and I could have sat inside, but they were slow. Overall the service was a little. Nslow and needed work. I ordered the oyster sampm4 3 =,ler app and it came out fairly quickly, but the oysters were very small. I also tried the combo #1 which saves you about $2 if you order a la carte. I also added 4 lbs of crawfish. Both were the garlic butter flavor which turned out to be really good. I also chose mild and it wasn't a true mild and had a little kick. Overall I would come back, and try more dishes in the menu. Their crawfish is a little high compared to other restaurants I've been to even though the news indicates prices this year are not as high as last year. I guess you pay for the nice area and ambiance in Metropark.

Yelp
How Cajun food is meant to be represented! Decided in a whim to given them a try as there simply aren't many Cajun/seafood options in the area. The tables are exactly what you should expect in a place that serves copious amounts of boiled Cajun food...covered in paper (so you can dump it all in the middle) and spaced well enough that you're not hitting elbows with anyone. It's a subtle thing, but much appreciated. Service was snappy at noon on a Saturday and no issues getting order in and drinks on the table quickly. The food was as advertised...good sized portions with excellent seasoning and taste. I figured the best option to evaluate multiple selections from the menu at once was the "Smack Pack". The dirty rice was outstanding, as was the shrimp and corn. The sausage was good, and the boiled egg and potato were bland but filling. All in all, well worth the price for a very healthy portion of food for far less than the likes of Pappadeaux's with quality as good or better. I'll definitely be bringing the family with me next go-round, as I wanted to try so many things, but only have one stomach!

Yelp
Great spot for your cajun fix asian boil style in the woodlands area! We had a big group and with only 2 cooks , they accommodated everything in a timely manner! Crawfish as it is off season were little guys but flavorful. Crawfish fried rice was great. The star was their garlic noodles with a slight sear was so delish! Crab tacos and new Orleans style oysters were awesome starters!

Terri M.

Yelp
It was ok. Nothing to make me say "we gotta come back". We started with the cracklin with queso. Being a native of Louisiana, cracklin from there is very different - this is fried pork skins from a bag with some queso. Very meh. Especially even more so because it took 15 minutes to come to our table - and they weren't that busy! Service the whole time wasn't very good. There isn't an overall reason to come back. There are too many other good restaurants in The Woodlands area to go to. One app, 2 drinks and two lunch was $54 before tip. Pretty pricey for meh.

Sassy A.

Yelp
We've been twice, the food was great, but the service was lacking a little. The servers were nice, but there weren't enough of them. I'll definitely go again. The crawfish beignets were especially yummy.

Yelp
Decided to celebrate a friend's birthday around 5 pm on a Saturday- tried to call for a reservation- upon arrival they said their system was down. Wait was between 20-30 minutes. Waiter was friendly, food was mediocre IMO. Friends said the crawfish was good, but had a lingering sweet taste -maybe it was the flavor. I had the 12 shrimps, hush puppies and fries. Cajun fries were definitely a 10/10! Hush puppies and shrimp were definitely frozen, pre made from a bag, and not fresh. (Price was 16. Plus tax) Overall good price point for daily menu items. Crawfish was a bit pricey 50/50 chance for a return visit. Maybe I need to order sometime else.
google avatar

Meagen M.

Yelp
Excellent service!!! Literally ten stars if I could! Our waiter was amazing! We were ambushed by a random Houston storm and she wanted to make sure all was well with us! The ambiance is a great relaxing feel! Very clean and chill vibes! THE FOOD!!!!! ten times ten stars! So fresh! They hit the spot during crawfish seasoning! Since I got a taste of crawfish cafe seasoning I refuse to try anywhere else! Other places can try to convince me but you have competition! I mean that in a nice way all smiles! Will I be returning? What kind of question is that! YES!!!
google avatar

Amy G.

Yelp
Visited specifically for the chargrilled oysters and they did not disappoint! Looking forward to another visit soon- great menu
google avatar

India C.

Yelp
The service was outstanding. My server was able to answer all my questions about the menu and was super energetic. I started with chargrilled oysters which were thoroughly seasoned and delish. For my entree I had the smack pack which included sausage, shrimp, potato, egg and smack sauce. It was a little spicy but definitely enjoyed the dish. Will be returning to try the crawfish eggrolls!
google avatar

Yelp
So first and foremost the food was pretty darn killer! Flavor was good, portion was good, and they didn't skimp on the sides. After I ordered the food came out fairly quickly and I was pleasantly surprised at the size. When I came in, they were running a special which included a lot of the fan favorites! So of course I ordered that. Thankfully the waiter recommended it since it wasn't on the menu or written down anywhere. The overall vibe of the place was interesting. It was clean. Lots of people. With tvs. Getting seated was a little slow but overall a good amount of people were coming in and out and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. The only complaint I really have about this place was how long we had to wait to be seated. When I arrived, there was two people in front of me waiting to be seated. I stood at the front for about 15 minutes before someone came to even seat the people in front of me. By the time I got seated the line was starting to run out of room inside
google avatar

Lisa K ..

Yelp
Wow this place is hopping on a Saturday night! We called to go dessert 10 minutes before arrival and waited for 30 min and still not ready! Can we fault them for being busy?!? There were about 6 pick ups from Uber/Door Dash drivers!! I wonder what's in their crawfish! LOL!! Will have to come back and try it! If you're going to take an order over the phone, I expect my order to be filled in a timely manner. Would appreciate for a heads up if it was going to be late. Nonetheless... the best beignets!! I could eat a bucket! lol!
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
We decided to give crawfish cafe a try for an early dinner. It took a while for our waitress to come over and introduce herself but after that she was really helpful going through the menu and providing recommendation. We decided to try their crab legs, boiled crawfish, gumbo, wings, hush puppies and fried okra. Let's say it was a mixed bag. Hush puppies and fried okra were bland and under fried. Crab legs, boiled crawfish and wings had good flavor. My son and husband were a bit disappointed with the lack of heat on the crawfish and wings. The red beans and rice with sausage was the clear winner. We'll definitely be back to get more red beans and rice and give those mud bugs another try.
google avatar

Vince C.

Yelp
Good food but loud atmosphere. Take out might be the best option for us. Lots of tempting choices on the menu.
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Closer to a three, but I'm giving it a four. We met my in-laws for lunch. The atmosphere is pretty nondescript. The server was nice, but I felt that she should have explained and offered corn and anything else that wasn't included. The food all came out at completely different times. We got the egg rolls and crawfish bread as appetizers. This was the saving grace for the length of time between meals being served. I'd still come back to try it again.
google avatar

Genesis M.

Yelp
The crawfish were delicious and seasoned very well. The snow crab legs were also great! I will say that the garlic noodles were not the greatest I would pass on that. For my dish I got the fried rice with shrimp and the shrimp were delicious. But the fried rice was not it for me. The potato, egg and sausage were not seasoned which made the dish not so great either. Overall I will probably only come here for crawfish. Place was clean and well kept! Service was great! Our server was attentive.
google avatar

Armand K.

Yelp
My favorite place to go for the crawfish dinner in garlic butter sauce with the boiled potatoes & corn
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere was great . Good food and service was excellent as always and our waiter Makai was amazing . I love coming here

Yelp
Best place around the shrimp are great they're big and easy to peel signature sauce spicy is the way to go. My wife loves the mussels and smack pack we go about once a week since we found this place

Yelp
Back at this casual yet very clean no-frills eatery, and so glad for the improvements :). You guys, these garlic noodles are legit. So, last week I was in LA for work, and I specifically put the world famous Crustacean in Beverly Hills on my must try list. Crustacean is the swanky home of the OG "An's Secret Kitchen" garlic noodles. Every food show on TV has talked about these garlic noodles since the late 90's. Well, I tried them, and guess what? They taste EXACTLY like the garlic noodles here at Crawfish Cafe! Of course the price tag was quite different. That check was exponentially larger. Just to be sure I wasn't jaded, I and my sister returned to Crawfish Cafe this evening so that I could re-taste the noodles... YES. I can confirm, they taste exactly like Crustacean's famous noodles. There you go. You don't have to go to Cali, and you can pay a lot less for the same insanely delicious noodles. You're welcome. In addition to the noodles, I had the scallion oil grilled oysters, and they were delicious! Also, Chris was an excellent server... gracious, friendly, and very efficient.

Deborah D.

Yelp
First time visitors and it was a HIT! The food was very good and the service was even better. Sarah was a wonderful, pleasant, and very friendly server. Kudos to the young man that bought our hot bowls out! This was a very good experience! The food was great!
google avatar

Virginia S.

Yelp
Not great. Blue crabs burnt black on one side. Gumbo roux black overcooked. Fried rice ok. Fried okra really good. Hot, great batter, asked for remoulade sauce. Waiter did not know what it was. It was on the menu. Sad but nice wait staff not trained well. Small crawfish. Good turkey necks. Need noodles in turkey broth. Small oysters. Clean place. Not sure we'll be back

Yelp
Total surprise to see this establishment; I clearly hadn't ventured enough in this new metroplex area of Shenandoah because last time I had Crawfish Cafe was down at their Bellaire Blvd location pre pandemic. And given distance from home it was either special occasion, or when I try to fit all the amazing food in Chinatown area and engorge myself to new levels of uncomfortable. We went on a Sunday evening, no wait, quickly seated and greeted. Our server was stellar from start to finish. Opted for appetizers to start of hush puppies and crawfish egg rolls. The hush puppies were delicious, kid approved. The egg rolls are a little too cream cheesy for me. Have to shout out on their cocktail sauce that stuff is delicious. Pound of crawfish (MKT price $8.99), slathered in garlic butter sauce, and extra spicy boil in a bag with potatoes ($1.49 for 3). Glove me and go; buttery fiery goodness. Size was mixture but the taste makes up for that. Overall I'm equally spoiled by them being up in this area and scared I may not outlive the amount of heartburn I'll endure enjoying their food offerings. Parking is plenty around the sides and back (with adjacent parking garage if you want to spend a little longer and check out other merchants or a movie).

Yelp
It has been months ago since the last time i eat here but today i was surprised due to the crawfish rate ! It went to 16.99/lbthe price went up so highbut you do have another option for the frozen crawfish for 9.99/lbone thing that i am happy the food /crawfish is flavorful you just have to ask for more lemon so it will not taste too salty The service is also great though you have to patiently wait for they have to cook it . My servers namely Emmanuel and Sean were also great. They have been very pleasant and attentive to our orders. And have explained why the sudden raise of the price . The ambiance still clean and always ready for the next customers. I will come back but it will be for a while because paying 96$ for 2 is a little pricy for me for crawfish, gumbo and a bottle of coke Star for 4 due to the price
google avatar

Yelp
SHENANDOAH, TX / VIET CAJUN / 03-12-23 / LUNCH +The seafood was pretty good. +The sauces were good. -The customer service could use some improvement, but totally get good restaurant workers are hard to find.

Amanda E.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed in the food :/ the service was decent and the ambiance was great but seriously, the food was flavorless.

Deborah E.

Yelp
Good gumbo, boudin balls, and crawfish! Excellent service as well. A bit messy, but they have a sink to wash your hands afterward.

Yelp
Always the truth love them down so good service and food good I love it I try to catch them 1 time a week at least

Yelp
Brought my parents to the crawfish cafe to try some crawfish with some asian fusion flavors such as Thai Basil and coco loco. They said it's now their favorite place to get crawfish! There's plenty of parking and indoor seating, no matter if you're a party of 2 or party of 8. There's gloves to keep your hands clean, plenty of napkins to wipe the messes away, and convenient stand-alone sinks outside the bathroom to wash your hands. Food took a minute to come out, but only because the table ahead of us probably ordered more than 10 pounds of crawfish in every flavor. There plenty of seafood options to choose from, but like the table ahead of us, we came for the mudbugs. * Don't forget to check out the pop-up menu from the Phofix. Fan of the "The Pho Dip" Sadly, I forgot to join their rewards program.

Yelp
'Tis the season! Crawfish Cafe is hands down my favorite Viet-Cajun crawfish spot! The OG location in Bellaire has now branched out all over Houston and surrounding areas, which is awesome because they are the best! I went to the newest location in The Woodlands since my family lives up here, and it did not disappoint! The only downsides were parking around was packed, and service was a bit slow and sporadic, but maybe in due time things will flow better. Crawfish is currently at market price: $8.99/lb (as of March 2023), and the crawfish are huge. I only wish they would sell 1/2 lbs also, but they only sell per pound. The flavors are so delicious, but my favorite would have to be "The Grail", a combination between garlic butter and Thai basil, I adjust the spice level to medium which has a perfect kick to it if your spice tolerance isn't as high. Make sure to get boiled corn on the cob and sausage add ons to go with your boiled bagged crawfish, so much flavor! The Cajun fries and the fried rice are also delicious and goes well with your crawfish! Unfortunately they charge for any dipping sauces, but the spicy aioli is a great condiment for the crawfish and Cajun fries. The wings are also really crispy and tasty! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Take all your family and friends here! Please open a Crawfish Cafe in Katy next!! :)

Paulette S.

Yelp
Everything was a 10 out of 10 hand down. Friendly employees. Food was so good. Ambiance was great. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Saw this place while driving down I-45. Decided to give it a try and were pleasantly surprised. Waiter Emmanuel was awesome and recommend the daily special. Thursday- Shrimpfest 24 Blackened Shrimp with 2 sides. We also tried the crawfish cheese bread, garlic Parmesan wings, fried rice, hush puppies, and 1lb of mussels. Everything was delicious and the spice level was perfect. (Extra spicy!) We will definitely be back for Tuesdays daily special- Cajun Boil.

Yelp
My Margarita was amazing!!! My food as was also GREAT I got crawfish, hush puppies & potatoes. Everything was amazing, to top it off was our amazing server Serein, she really welcomed my friends and I and recommended some great things. 10/10 I will definitely be back!!

Atmosphere was AMAZING! There is something for everyone on the menu (even if you're picky) Service was great!

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday morning and was immediately greeted by the host who quickly walked us over to our table. Our server Wes was so patient and kind while helping us order our food. I really enjoyed how crispy the onion rings and cajun fries were and the fried rice dishes were amazingly seasoned and was a good portion size that could serve 3-4 people! Overall the food was amazingly delicious and the restaurant was really spacious and clean. I would 10/10 recommend to anyone that's near the area to come check out this newly-opened viet-cajun restaurant!

Yelp
Bomb crawfish!!! So fresh, so much flavor! I'm from Boston and was visiting so I had to try it. I also had the Oyster nachos which is unheard of, it was really tasty. My fave would have to be the garlic noodles!! So creamy and delicious!! Emmanuel our server was good too and made it a great experience.
