Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack

Came here for a date night and it did not disappoint! They had a live band and some interestingly named cocktails with ice cream that were very good! We ordered the fried calamari for an appetizer. It had a very light Cajun kick and was good. We ordered the fried catfish and shrimp special and a grilled platter. The shrimp, fried and grilled were good. The grilled red fish, hush puppies, French fries and onion rings were also good. The actual cat fish itself was a little mushy, but it was freshly fried. My husband got the fried okra, he said it was good. We got the garlic potatoes and they were so freaking delicious. We will be going back, definitely want to try more food and have some more drinks!

Perfect for a good seafood boil. Staff assisted us well and gave amazing recommendations. The snow crab legs were delicious thing. Oysters were good too. Experience was enjoyable.

My fiance and I loved the food and drinks here. We were celebrating a getting our marriage license and it was magnificent.

Stopped in at Crazy Alan’s Swamp Shack in Kemah and left full, happy, and impressed. I had the gumbo along with fried shrimp and catfish — all of it hit the mark. The gumbo was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice and that deep, slow-cooked roux taste you hope for. The fried shrimp and catfish were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — perfectly seasoned and cooked right. You can tell they don’t cut corners in the kitchen. Service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere fits the name — lively, local, and full of personality. If you’re craving Gulf Coast seafood done right, this is the spot. I’ll be back.

When in Houston area, this is the main place for dinner. As a seafood place in Kemah, this is the best. Located just in walking distance from Courtyard By Mariott Kemah, this is a good option for dinner when staying there

Dined here for Sunday lunch. Boudain stuffed shrimp for appetizer, trout medallion with spinach, and garlic taters and seafood enchiladas for entrees. Drinks ordered were Bull Frog Hawaiian and Swamp juice. Waiter Jacob was awesome. Chef forgot appetizer, so we received entrees first. The appetizer was hot, fresh and delicious. Trout was stuffed with rice and crawfish tails. I didn't care for mushrooms in the sauce. Spinach was delicious with bacon. Drink was good but could've been stronger. Will return to try other items.

Guys, let me tell you! They have THEE BEST boudin balls EVER! Soft and full of flavor, mouth watering. Crawfish was fresh ($5 extra). For the appetizer I recommend the sampler. You will LOVE it, it will not disappoint. Gator bites UFF delicious 😋 My son and I ordered the G-Style seafood pot spicy and it was perfect 👌🏽

I have mixed feelings about this place. Firstly, it's a swamp shack. Does it look and feel the cleanest? No not really lol. But is it a good place to eat? Yes it is. They have a whole variety of foods and I do like oysters, the oysters on the half shell are good, and so far after eating I haven't had any stomach aches so that's also a good sign. I also like the crawfish, I am a baby when it comes to spice so I got mine with no spice and it was just perfect. I usually come here after my family makes the day trip to kemah. They have a live band(sometimes just man) playing downstairs and you have the option to sit inside or outside. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes just being in there makes me lose a bit of my appetite. It doesn't necessarily look the most appealing to the eyes, but again with a name like swamp shack I shouldn't be anywhere near surprised. Also, in order to get to the indoor seating there is a stair case, so your only option if you're in a wheelchair is to eat outside. The stairs are pretty steep and I usually hit my heel on the back of the step, so be careful on your way back down.

YUMMY!!!! I am a seafood lover and this place hits the spots and y'all I love QUALITY VALUE and good portions and this place delivers that wholeheartedly. Great prices (there's an AYCE fried shrimp and fish on certain days!!), wonderful variety, and the taste is pretty tastyyyyy!! The blackened shrimp flavor was on point, savory with subtle heat, and the fried seafood was wonderful! I also enjoyed the hush puppies. The garlic potatoes were good but not great and left me desiring way more oomph or seasoning and I gobbled those onion rings down but there def couldeve been more seasoning and flavor It was a good experience and location near the water and kemah is wonderful!! Thank you!

Hit or miss. I used to love their crawfish but the last couple times I have visited, they have been dirty AF. Sad to see them not care about one of their biggest money makers. I do enjoy their blackened alligator tacos. Overall I would honestly recommend for fried food and alcoholic drinks.

I've been here a few times, mostly for a few beers and the atmosphere. The food is decent enough, but the ambiance, music and cold beer is the main reason for me to visit this place. Service is usually pretty decent, with exception for a hiccup here and there but, nothing major. I definitely recommend anyone check it out at least once for a good time.

After a whole day of playing at Kemah boardwalk, I was looking forward to getting some crawfish! I was seated really quickly and opted for the upstairs seating- there are a handful of comfy booths! I got the "G Style Flavored Pot" which came with 3 pounds of crawfish and 1 pound of shrimp! The shrimp was exceptionally large and fresh! And the portion is good for 2-3 people! There was also lots of crawfish and it tasted really good with the mild seasoning (which was not mild btw) I also had some southern gumbo - very heavy and hearty taste; as well as some catfish - super flaky and fresh! (The Catfish and Shrimp Feast could feed 2-3 people as well!) An overall great experience for my first crawfish boil!

It was a good experience. Family dinner, with a feast of food. The food came out fast. Highlights were the seafood enchiladas and the appetizer platter with stuffed jalepenos.

The food and atmosphere was good but the service not so much. They weren't that busy and was there for me very 2 hours because we only saw our waitress every 30 minutes or so. Don't get me wrong, she was very nice but had to remind her of my drink and food. My husband even got tired of waiting for her to pick up our payment and got up to go pay for it. We still gave her a minimum tip (18%) because I know how they live off of their tips because I used to wait tables. She got more than she earned. When you see people come in after you got there and get their food and leave before you even get your check then something is going on. Oh did I mention that another waiter took our payment.....smh! It'll be a minute before I go back......sigh!

Great Food and Entertainment! Every time I come to Kemah, I make sure to stop by and eat! The plates are very generous and the food is flavorful

I had the $20 all you can eat fried shrimp, catfish, fries, onion rings, salad and gumbo. The salad had no iceberg lettuce (a good thing), but included tomatoes, red onions and sliced mushrooms. Definitely a step above the average house salad. The cup of gumbo was spot on, above average for sure, and my family is from Louisiana. I had onion rings, which were freshly made, hot and crispy. Not much of a catfish eater but the piece I had was fried just right. The shrimp, despite the server saying they were jumbo, they were medium at best, but cooked and seasoned well. I went there on a Monday evening and only 2 other tables were taken, hence the service was really good. I highly recommend it!

So the FIASCO THAT WAS on I-10 that is no longer. If I could have gave it a negative mark, it would have been done! That was then and this is now. Let's talk atmospheres: very Louisiana swamp shack vibes and right under the 146 Highway bridge. The Eagle was a nice classic rock touch. I bobbed my head all night. Originally, I had my order planned out but the audible came quickly. The menu is cajun themed and reads of an action movie....fast and loud! Read it before you get to the restaurant! I sat at the bar to avoid waiting in line which didn't matter for it was early evening. Shout out Jake the bartender and management. Now, usually you see an African American (The Only One siting at the bar on a Saturday night) they treated me like a regular and checked on me regularly. Good job! And now. My order. Drinks: Bloody Maries were dark and strong. Appetizer: The Shrimp Cocktail was interesting. Chunky and tasty. Main Course: Blackened Texas Red Snapper with black eyed peas and garlic taters. Didn't need any extra seasoning(The salt and pepper shakers felt neglected) Desert: Crown Royal Bread Pudding. Not too sweet and not your grandmas but good still. Verdict: Why didn't they just make the I-10 one like this one. Best of all, it's near the Kemah Boardwalk. Gotta like that!

My motel gave me a free appetizer voucher for this place so I decided to try it out. Took a while to be seated due to only one server there while others were in no sight. Didn't know the place had inside seating or else I would've sat inside due to the weather just being windy and raining here and there. Prices were decent. I had their crawfish for happy hour (4.99, 12-6pm) which I had to ask about because they didn't specify what the promotion was or how it goes. The server that help me was nice but not really attentive and it wasn't even busy. Do restaurants nowadays not ask if we want refills or anything?

We had a great time on our visit here. The Swamp Shack has more character than you can shake a gator tail at! The server was excellent. The menu had so much to offer making it hard to decide, but all the offerings fit their specialty cuisine. The food all seems to be prepared with their own recipes, and real ingredients. There was even a good band playing (but it was on the patio and too cool for us that night), and an alligator and turtles living in aquariums throughout the building.

Definitely should not miss out on the Trout Medallion plate. Best think I've tasted. Amazing. Will be ordering again for sure.

Every time I come to a Houston to visit my daughter, a drive to Crazy Alan's is a must! We just love the food and ambiance. We have visited both locations in Kemah and Friendswood. Kemah is my fave because of the beach location but food is equally yummy at both.

Me and my bud saw this place while passing by and decided to try it because it was cool we heard a band playing while we walked by and the place looked pretty cool. The only thing I liked with what I ordered was the spinach artichoke dip, my main course wasnt too flavorful even though I love cheese that's all I tasted in it. The fried pickles was okay but they were so tiny and had a lot of batter on it which I could mostly just taste the batter and all the grease when I took a bite at it. It was a nice experience but nah I wouldn't come back.

I usually come here once a year, if that. When my friend comes in from out of town, this is where his family likes to gather and eat crawfish. We usually come on the weekend around opening. The later it gets, the more crowded it gets. It has a nice patio and they usually have live music on the weekends. There's plenty of parking out front and a lovely view of the marina and the Kemah boardwalk. Every time I've come I've had good customer service. The food is ok. To me it's more of a socializing place. The food is not bad by any means, but there's nothing I would drive out of my way for. They have a good drink selection. A lot of huge, sugary, novelty cocktails. Desserts are ok too. Overall, a decent spot when in the area. It beats a lot of the chain restaurants on the boardwalk for sure!

November 20, 2021 Family from Beaumont and a local friend came to meet me for a late lunch for my (almost) 60th BD; I live in Galveston. They came with party supplies (balloons galore) and a big BD Great American chocolate cookie...yes!! We had appetizers: fried crab legs, pickles and cheese sticks along w/seafood nachos (All excellent) Me and my friend shared the big fish bowl drink, the "shark shack" ($31) it had rum/pineapple in it...it was tasty but not enough alcohol for that size drink and that price. Sam (female) was our server...and Lisa was the manager who had talked w/my mom several times prior to our arriving (deets about my BD surprise) both were awesome (we gave them some of my BD sweets) They had a singer playing guitar...we bought him a beer! (We do right by waitstaff and local artist) Entrees: grilled fish, gumbo, spicy boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, fish, onion rings, and hush puppies. Also, seafood enchiladas and a cheeseburger w/bacon, "the in-bred" (they forgot. And, I forgot it came w/jalapeño's soo I didn't ask or get them) Ok...out of all the entrees...ONLY my cheeseburger, grilled fish and the spicy boiled shrimp were tasty. Everything else was meh! The fried foods didn't have enough seasoning (flavor) and the enchiladas (looked fantastic) but tasted not bland just not that mmmm, good flavor. I tasted them and they tasted like the seafood had once been frozen, thawed, cooked and smothered in a cream sauce. The crab was imitation too...if it wasn't...it tasted like it was. All the appetizers were delicious...soo, add that to the few entrees that were yum...none of thought it was enough for any of us to ever go back. Sorry, Alan But, hey we sat outside, had great service, beautiful weather, good local singer and wonderful conversations.

This was such a great Fri night!! I didn't expect to have live entertainment, but that was the absolute cherry. Brett Axelson was very personable in addition to being very good; performed a great set, absolutely rocks the reggae tho. He even gave us shirts. Anyway...the food was delicious. I'm tough on gumbo, but this nice dark roux can hold its own, nice fluffy jasmine rice would have made it perfect though. I got the catfish strips & shrimp...fish was ok, shrimp, fries, hush puppies were good, love the seasoning. Jolly rancher shot, 'nuff said. I will definitely do this again!!

Positives = atmosphere, live music Negatives = bathroom smells like sewage We are loyalty members and had to fight for our points and $10 off a $150+ bill (before tip with NO drinks) BTW we haven't been in a few years because of the hurricane damage to the building AND COVID but six of us drove an hour and forty five minutes to GET here to eat (read: loyal customers). Today was my husbands bday & we (me & kids) took him out to eat at your place. A friend recommended your place, but we came to the kemah location b/c it was closer to home. We were greeted by sweet girl, (hostess) and she went to take us to a table, but back tracked after we all saw the table had not been cleaned. So she took us to another. "Jenny" the server showed up, dropped off menus & left. 15 min later she shows back up to take drink orders & leaves. Another 15/20 min later drinks are dropped off. & we told her we were ready to order appetizers and meals. She was not very welcoming; very rude and not very friendly. Told my 17 yr old, "Look at me in my face when you're talking to me." (Repeated this 2x) Then she left. About 30 min later, apetizers/meals were served together. We were told it's the kitchens fault. At your other location, my friend said they had very friendly/attentive servers and appetizers came way before the meals. The salad I order looked very old. Lettuce leaves were very brown & rest was bad. I did not eat it. Crawfish was still cold & not cooked right. We left that as well. Husband got upset & told me to just pay so we can go home, as he left to get the car. I went to pay, "Jenny" took off with my card and walked off to another table first instead of cashing me out. She came back from the other table, gave me 2 tickets (with diff totals) that she already ran my card for and asked that I sign. I looked & called her attention to the other ticket & she realized she made a mistake and said she would be right back. She came back with a mgr, who helped her clear the register. The hostess saw me & asked why were we leaving, that we were supposed to celebrate my husbands bday & I told her the evening did not go well. She apologized to me. "Jenny" finally gave me my correct ticket & she insisted I sign it in front of her presence so she can see what I left her for a tip. At that point I was so upset, so I left her nothing. She turned the receipt back over and looked at tip area & saw it was zero. She got upset, & made a comment. I know about the Restraunt biz & about servers. I always tip very well when I eat out & have always had good service elsewhere. My friend said the LC location, service is always very good. I guess we should've driven further to that location. I really wanted this to be a great bday dinner for my veteran husband, but did not turn out like that. Was our first and LAST time. "Jenny" needs an attitude adjustment too and learn to do walk thrus to check on her customers. You also need fresher food, cooked well. Not be too quick and in a hurry.

Food was amazing!!! Had the red fish fillet medallions with blackened shrimp and garlic potatoes. Also had fried shrimp and onion rings. OMG it was soooo good. Also had the Boudreaux's ultímate margarita over rocks and they were really good. Great food and great service! We drove an hour to get here and we definitely will be back.

We had a wonderful dinner tonight at Crazy Alan's! My husband had the All You Can Eat shrimp and Catfish and I had the Seafood Bucket special. Both were absolutely delicious! However, the highlight was our server, Anthony! He was so attentive and personable! He told us about the rewards and got us all signed up! We sat outside and the weather was perfect. The food was wonderful and plenty. Combine all of that with Anthony's service! We will definitely be back!

The seafood is superb! There are only stairs. So handicapped or physically impaired (walking/wheelchair guests) will not be able to go to the 2nd floor which has a very nice view of the water and the boardwalk across the parking lot. Live music is promised every day. The brownie a la mode dessert was not great. The brownies were hard as rocks. The ice cream was good - hard to mess up ice cream. The brownies were probably old or just over baked. So dry and hard. The chicken tenders and fries are good. The stuffed mushrooms are delicious! The nachos appetizer is fantastic. The seafood platters (any of them) are very tasty. The red beans are good and actually cooked and seasoned well. Will return! I want to try the crab legs.

I literally wanted to give this place 1 star but the customer service was so good that I gave them a 3, but by far the worst seafood I've ever had in my life. I went with the boil and I spent about $250 on a Togo order for the family. The boil was not seasoned at all, I was confused because of the photos on the reviews showed a real boil with seasoning. The potatoes were hard, the shrimp were dirty and hard to peel, the crab legs were extremely small (they charged us $10 a cluster, which was suppose to be their special) I got my kids the catfish and they didn't eat it (but they are kids so I can't mention if anything was wrong with it) overall I feel like I should open up a seafood shop nearby.

Mom and pop place with bigger venue, great food and pleasant atmosphere. Will be back soon.

Bad services, bad food! The worst restaurant I've ever had! Never ever come here again! The ambiance is dirty!!!

I had received a coupon for a free appetizer from Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack. I had been hanging onto it for quite a while with full intentions of going but then Covid happened so I'm just now getting around to using it. The coupon was good for the Baybrook location or the Kemah location. We decided to go to the Kemah location. For lack of a better description, I would consider this restaurant a place where you get Cajun bar food. We chose to go on a Saturday night because they have live music starting at 6:30 PM. It was a solo singer playing his guitar. He was actually fairly decent. Played a hodgepodge of various styles of music. We enjoyed listening to him on the outside patio. The staff was friendly. Our primary interaction with anyone besides the hostess was our waitress. She was very personable, slightly sarcastic (which I fully appreciate), and very efficient. According to my receipt her name is Samantha K. I do recommend her. For my free coupon appetizer, we decided upon the fried pickles. It is one of the few appetizers you're allowed to get that was under the dollar maximum that you can use with the coupon. They were the typical sliced pickles that you get at other restaurants. They were pretty good. I would order them again. The couple that was with us ordered a stuffed shrimp jalapeño appetizer that was better and I would recommend it more than the pickles. However, it was over the dollar value that I was able to spend with my coupon. Our entrées included the seafood enchiladas and the shrimp tacos. They were OK at best. The shrimp in the tacos was very small. The shrimp and crawfish that was in the enchiladas was also very small (which is fairly normal for enchiladas). However, the overall taste of both entrées was average. We wouldn't order either entrée again. Bottom line - Good service with average food. We would go back in a pinch but we're not rushing. Bon appétit, y'all.

Ok so this place was better than expected! We got The Feast- our server Rodney was well let's just say it started a little rough but I'm also a little bitchy so once we got past that he was awesome! Drinks were a heavy pour (drinkin doubles) but let me just say the alligator eggs were good but the scallops were overcooked but they're wrapped and deep fried with bacon so there's that! There were 4 of us sharing this enormous seafood feast which had a full lobster (it was undercooked) lots of crab legs including Snow and Dungeness they were out King Crab but had crawfish which are out of season so they were small- regardless it was well Seasoned mild it had heat- the shrimp were awesome and I can say Rodney redeemed himself with being on time with drinks and checking back! We had other plans so could have sent back the lobster but opted not to- not the servers fault! Will be back to try again and hopefully Rodney is still working!

Since I'm not getting anywhere with Uber Eats (extra long hold times) and Crazy Alan's phone just rolls over to voicemail without ringing, I have no other way to reach out about our dinner tonight. I was craving crawfish and remembered that we had some great bugs and meals at the restaurant several times, so I thought I'd order through Uber. My husband's Blackened Catfish Ettouffee had exactly 1 filet of fish with what I assume were crawfish on top and a lemon slice... That's it! No rice, gravy, nothing. Just what you see in the picture for $25? SERIOUSLY??? My uncle doesn't care for seafood, so he went with some "comfort food"and Pot Roast. He received a bowl with some stringy pieces of roast beef, I think, and a ton of gravy. It honestly looked like someone dumped a can of dog food in a bowl and warmed it up. He said it wasn't something he'd order again. My "G" style seafood pot was requested to he mild, and it apparently was just a suggestion because it's not mild in my book. 3 lbs of crawfish and 1lb of shrimp? Maybe... After spending over $100 for a family of 3 to eat, my lips are burning, I'm pretty damn disappointed, and both my husband and uncle are still hungry. I guess I'm off to McDonald's... At least when my cheeseburger order is wrong, it's not quite as disappointing since we weren't expecting anything more than a McDonald's cheeseburger anyway.

Service was outstanding. Fast and friendly. Perfect patio weather made outdoor dining a must and with live music on Saturdays, it was a great choice! Gumbo (not pictured) was fantastic!!! Seafood nachos were good! Grilled shrimp tacos were good but not super flavorful. And Kids catfish bites with Mac and cheese were perfect for our 5 yr old who loves both catfish and Mac and cheese. Crown royal bread pudding- um, yes!!! Do it. So good!!!

Decided to have an outdoor dinner and music at the Swamp Shack. Couldn't have been a better day. Despite it being packed inside we were seated very quickly. Our Waiter Rodney was very polite and quick with our service. We had the Shrimp Cocktail to start us out and a fried shrimp dinner. The food was fresh and delicious. Even the neighborhood cat was very pleasant while visiting our table. Overall we had a fantastic time and will be back.

This spot never fails me! With covid, we have tried to be responsible citizens but you can only stay in your house for so long before you start to lose it so we decided to take a drive to Kemah and visit Crazy Alan's Swamp shack. I love that they have outside seating. We were able to keep social distance and enjoy the beautiful weather. We ordered the Louisiana Swamp Shrimp and crab gumbo (my husband was Houdini and made it disappear before I could get a picture) yummy! Great flavor, the only thing is that you gotta be careful to not Vite into the crab claws that comes in it! Next we had the Mixed Crab Pot that came with 1 leg of king crab, 1 cluster of snow crab, 1 cluster of Dungeness and corn/potato. *just writing this is making my mouth water* We added a 1/2 pound of shrimp to make it the perfect seafood pot! This is definitely enough for two ppl but if course me being me I HAD to have my fried. Shrimp so had an order of that as well accompanied with a few pina coladas to help it all go down. The Pina coladas were just ok. I know they are sweet but first one was too sweet for my liking, second one tasted very watered down and third tasted like straight alcohol. Overall, great place to dine with tasty food and great service!

My best friend and I wanted to go somewhere new for our birthday lunch and heard that Crazy Alan's had good food. They had GREAT food!!! She ordered fried shrimp and onion rings and I swiped a couple off of her plate. Fantastic! Light crunchy batter that didn't overwhelm the delicious fresh shrimp. Best fried shrimp I have had in forever. The onion rings were good as well. My own meal of Swamp Tacos was wonderful too. I was worried two tacos wouldn't be much food but I could not quite finish it all. Worth every penny. The service was great. Everyone was friendly and obviously cared about how we enjoyed our meals, including visiting us after we ate to get our feedback on the food. They did everything above and beyond to make our birthday lunch very special!

I ordered the fried shrimp basket that comes with shrimp and fries. I paid $11.99 for a plate full of french fries. There were 6 shrimp which bordered on the size of popcorn shrimp. The fries had a good flavor, but the shrimp was mediocre. I will not be going to this establishment again.

The food was delicious and great! The music was performed by Brett Axelson and he was really outstanding. Y'all need to come to Kemah Tx and enjoy y'all selves.

This is my all time favorite place to eat. Love everything we have ever ordered. Staff is always friendly even on the busy days. Best place to sit is outside with the live music. The view of the water is very relaxing. The seafood platters are well worth it. Drinks are amazing. Highly recommended!! This is a must to try. Price is reasonable and worth going.

This was our first time at Kemah so we didn't know what to expect. Decided to check out Crazy Alan's Swamp Shack. Sat outside to listen to live music and get fresh air. Ordered beer, seafood nachos, seafood stuffed mushrooms and salad with alligator meat. Food and service were good but the experience was a bit pricey.

Decided to take my sister here today for her birthday lunch and it was so good! The crab legs were amazing! Very friendly staff and even brought out a cute sparkler for the cake. I will be returning soon for sure

if I could give this place a -0 I would. Months ago my husband and I went to this place, only because Jackie's was out of crawfish. We asked if they had live crAW fish, and were told yes. then we told them we did not want frozen crawfish. So, the food was so bad we left most of the food. The food smelled bad, and all of what did not smell bad, tasted old. when you spend $100 on 1 meal at least some of it should be good. I did a bad review because it was that bad. Well I guess a manager (female) reached out to me, and stated "usually I like to make things right, but seeing who I was" she wasn't I guess. we go out to eat crawfish 2-3 times a week during the season, and we go out to eat a lot. First of all what she told me was the rudest thing ever experienced. I was not looking for anyone to make anything right. so I wonder if it is even true that they make an effort. We'll never eat there again. mostly because of her stupid comment. this is not the type of establishment anyone should want to eat at simply for allowing anyone who represents your business to speak to any customer in that manner. I will now post this everywhere so everyone will know what type of establishment this truly is!

This place is amazing. I'm surprised they are not packed. Salad is fresh and cold. Crawfish are awesome and seafood and gumbo are really done well! Hidden gem!

Always great food is tasty, atmosphere is cool, live music, good prices, large crawfish!
