Cream - Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Ice cream is one of those things that you can find whenever you really need it - unless you really need a scoop late night. Then you’re pretty much out of luck. Grocery stores are closed, and the number one customer base for most ice cream shops has a 7:30pm bedtime. Enter, Cream. It may be a mini chain, but they’re up late serving ice cream and cookie combos until 1am on weekends. Leave the bar, get an ice cream sandwich, be happy." - Will Kamensky

Google
I tried the Coffee Blast and Cheesecake flavors — and both were insanely delicious. The Coffee Blast had a rich, bold coffee flavor with a smooth, creamy texture that hit perfectly. The Cheesecake flavor was creamy, slightly tangy, and honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. This is definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to again and again. Amazing flavors, great hospitality, and a genuinely wholesome experience. Highly recommend if you’re in the area! Special thanks to the kind gentleman who served us we didn’t catch his name, but his hospitality made our visit even better!

We couldn’t find any hot chocolate kinda late at night in the Castro area but…CREAM got us covered! Nice people and good atmosphere too! Sitting area is a little limited though but all in all good experience 😊👍🏼

Google
This place offers irresistible ice cream toppings and some conventional and unconventional flavors. Different sweet treats such as cookies and ice cream sandwiches are also available. Done up in pop colors, the place looks bright and fun!

Google
I appreciated the fact that they had four vegan ice cream flavors and a vegan cookie option. The soy milk churro ice cream was tasty! But do the vegan flavors really have to be hidden in the back separate from all the other flavors? I guess that means they are safer from contamination. I'll have to try the vegan cookies another time.

Google
CREAM rules everything around Making-Cookie-Sandwiches. I hadn’t had a gluten free cookie sandwich in 10+ years and it was a near religious experience. The cookies were far better than I was expecting, the ice cream scoops were far thicker than I was expecting, the price ($8) was, for SF standards, far cheaper than I was expecting. Gluten free cookies were only .50c more than the non gf. My non-celiac group was totally impartial on the sandwiches (too grainy, too sweet, too bland) but they haven’t been in a decades long cookie-sandwich drought, so that’s on them. If you’re gluten free for any reason, come here. The scoopers weren’t thrilled to be there, but it was 10pm on a Tuesday or something, so I don’t blame them.

Google
I was going to order something, but I noticed concerning hygiene practices from the person taking our order. He was handling money, replacing utensils, and preparing food—all with the same hand that had a single latex or vinyl glove. If he had simply washed his hands and/or changed gloves between tasks, I wouldn’t have minded. But instead, he was clearly cross-contaminating the workstation.

Google
Came for the vegan options. The cookies were good. The ice cream was good, not great. Def more thin than creamy. Wish they used a better base.

Google
exceptional customer service & great gluten free option. they gave us a free hot chocolate and coffee because they messed up the coffee. also gave us some free toppings. super nice guys!

Yelp
Sophia was kind, courteous, and patient with my daughter and me as we deliberated over flavors and ultimately chose a couple of amazing scoops to savor to end an evening stroll down Valencia. We will be back.

Yelp
Since we don't have an all vegan ice cream place in SF, you have to take what you can get in terms of vegan 'options'. I appreciate that Cream has not only vegan ice cream options, but also cookie options, so that you can get the full cookie sandwich experience. In terms of quality, I didn't find the ice cream or cookie anything to write home about. Basic flavors, and old school ingredients (soy ice cream.) The service was very good--the employee behind the counter was attentive and quick. But the ambience is a little worn. Meaning, take your ice cream with you and hopefully it's not too cold outside.

Yelp
Second visit here. Service non existent, 2 guys sitting on buckets in the back. 48 degrees outside, all the windows open, freezing inside @ 8:30 PM. The worst ice cream spoons I have ever used. Place was really dirty.

Yelp
solid icecream spot, icecream wise. service- meh - the person was annoyed i asked for samples to try... i got a pint scooped and the guy behind the counter was a bit stingy lol... it was like $11 before tax which i think is pretty pricey... so you would think to just treat the customer with kindness. anyways, the ambiance was cute - blue walls simple and clean. my friends who live here said the shop changed alot from when it first opened to now. mmm. curious if it'll still exist when i come back to visit again!

Yelp
Ideal location on Valencia and 16th with nice outdoor seating! Mint chocolate ice cream was as expected and the white macadamia cookie was warm. The staff were friendly and generous with their portion size! I would highly recommend!

Yelp
It was so good. I loved every bit and bite of it. The person here told me that I can get two different kinds of cookies and I did. Both of them were great and I have chip and cream in the middle with mms. It was so good.

Yelp
I'm anticipating this location closing very soon. Came here on a Saturday night and it was dead. It's kind of sad to see how Cream ended up. I remember them being so good & the hottest thing in town at one point- at least the location in Berkeley. The workers here are unenthusiastic, uncharismatic, and just hate working there. Dude had AirPods in while taking our order and kept having us repeat ourselves. They also didn't have the Taco anymore (although they had signs everywhere and it was posted on their menu board), and wouldn't honor their yelp check in offer for a free cookie after spending $5. As for the taste, the cookies were dry, unevenly shaped, and they gave you such a tiny scoop for such a high price point. The only positive thing about this experience and this location in particular was that the dulce de leche ice cream is tasty. Probably cause it gets shipped to them and they don't have to utilize any sort of skill except scooping the ice cream. Parking is also extremely horrific. Overall terrible experience and would not recommend to anyone!

Yelp
Ice cream at CREAM is pretty solid and will hit the spot where you're craving ice cream, cookies, or a brownie. They specialize in adding the ice cream between those cookies or on top of brownies. The cookies and brownies are probably better than the ice creams which isn't a bad thing, but it's definitely unexpected when they're an ice cream place by name. Thankfully everyone behind the counter is fun and easy to talk to. We went around dinner time and didn't encounter a line at all. The inside has mostly standing room to eat along the windows so don't expect to find a table to sit down.

Yelp
This location used to be so good years ago but I came back and it was not the same cookie sandwiches they used to serve. Cookie was hard and over baked. Very mediocre, don't recommended unfortunately...
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with a big group after dinner and while the inside isn't too spacious, outdoors is not bad at all. Creamy ice cream with some sweet flavors but definitely some original or classic flavors as well. However, I think most of the options won't be anything special so hopefully you're willing to experiment otherwise another spot might be better. Blueberry Cheesecake - my go to is strawberry cheesecake actually and I've had blueberry cheesecake gelato - this comes pretty close. Rich and creamy, you could try to convince me it's gelato.
google avatar

Katherine K.

Yelp
Very yummy, good service. Counter served with inside and outside tables to enjoy your ice cream! I got the mini chocolate chip cookies with the peanut butter twist ice cream
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
CREAM is a pretty solid spot that specializes in a small variety of ice cream flavors, cookies, and ice cream sandwiches (surprise - a combination of the ice cream and cookies they already offer). The ice cream flavors are fairly standard like cookies & cream, cup of Joe, rocky road, birthday cake. The cookie selection was a little more expansive with a number of different flavors and ability to get mini cookies. Nothing to complain about.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure why they keep cancelling my doordash orders. But one time when it went through I loved their icecream especially the matcha one. The gluten free chocolate is extremely tough though so I don't recommend. I lived in Berkeley, in which their first store started. Update--- My next orders got cancelled again, and finally one time it went through they sent me a completely wrong item thats not even on the doordash menu. I have feeling that its done on purpose

Yelp
Tonight, I had some of the lamest excuse for ice cream in SF. I lazily choose closest over tried & true or fun and innovative, and I got what I deserved - boring, low quality, dreck. The central Mission location and modest price$, can't make up for disengaged, low-energy staff, serving puny portions of flavorless, freezer-burned glop. Oh, with an optional puck of cardboard, poorly masquerading as a fresh baked cookie. Save the calories and the $, or better yet, go a little further for some truly satisfying indulgence.
google avatar

Yelp
The ice cream was awesome, but the service was laughably bad. I thought the server was talking to either themselves or maybe was addressing me but was just soft-spoken. To my amazement, they were actually face timing someone on their phone which was weird because I could see the other caller! Needless to say they did not address me right away or tell me where the line started. We wanted to eat our ice cream inside since it was cold and dark, but saw the countertop was filled with toppings and sticky from prior customers. We were the only ones inside, but it was clear no one was cleaning in between customers. We ended up leaving...
google avatar

Shikha S.

Yelp
Yes I know it's a chain and it hits the spot sometimes (and has for me in the past!!!) so this review is purely based on the scoop of green tea ice cream - this legit tastes like odd, freezer burned vanilla with green food coloring :( Go w a different flavor next time!!!! Also this location is cash only but you can do DoorDash pickup if needed

Dylan R.

Yelp
Service was good and the ice cream was ok it's just I feel like the cookies were kinda small and they weren't warm but overall ok.

Michael M.

Yelp
Went here 20 minutes before closing. The clerks behind the counter shooed us away and said they 'had a lot of cleanup to do' We watched them make themselves milkshakes after driving 20 mins to come here. We asked them twice to come in. I recommend avoiding this business.
google avatar

JC M.

Yelp
Pistachio ice cream's my favorite here. Second favorite's strawberry and third choice's the rocky road. Ice cream tastes best on waffle cone. The owner was really rice.

Yelp
I walked in here hoping for some simple ice cream, and got a whole lot more than I expected, in the best way possible. C.R.E.A.M. has anything you could want in a dessert location, from sundaes and milkshakes to ice cream sandwiches and cookies. Think of this place as a young child's fantasy for most ice cream and sweets thing known to man, and YOU ARE CORRECT that I was transported to a young 7 year old when I walked in here. I can honestly say that I spent about 10 mins looking at everything doe-eyed and confused and excited nervous of how much I could spend at a place like this. As I was with friends and I was actually full, I didn't want to overorder and not end up eating everything. I ended up ordering an ice cream sandwich with a double chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate chip cookie. This place was massive when I came to all of the ice cream flavors they had and they had ALL of the flavors you can think of. I grabbed my ice cream and some toppings (forgot which ones since I had a few too many lol. I paid and went outside to wait and eat. URGENT PSA: They don't tell you this at C.R.E.A.M., but the sandwiches are meant to be an eating race. You are racing against the clock of that ice cream sandwich melting on you. It got messy and I almost lost that race, but those last few bites just had to be some large bites. I did get it everywhere, so grab several napkins (not just one) and go crazy. If I am ever in the Mission and want another sweet treat, this is the spot. (Very close to the BART and commutable by train).
google avatar

Sheila J.

Yelp
I finally stopped by CREAM while in the Mission for an after dinner treat. I had a scoop of the birthday cake flavor topped with m&m's and fruity pebbles. SO. DELICIOUS. I thought the serving was fair for the price and very flavorful. There were two young ladies assisting us that were very sweet and helpful on our Sunday night visit. I took my ice cream to go to walk around the neighborhood but there is some stools if you choose to sit.
google avatar

Ali M.

Yelp
CREAM killed it with their ice cream sandwiches for one of my co workers' birthday last week. They delivered everything 10 minutes early than the actual delivery time so I had more than enough time to set everything up. Their packaging was really cute too and none of the sandwiches melted which I'm super happy about. I have had ice cream delivered to our office but nothing has lasted longer than our CREAM order! I will definitely order from here again -- Thank you all again for going above and beyond!
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly, this place didn't live up to other's reviews. Their cookies aren't good, their milkshakes left a lot to be desired. Their ice cream was just okay and I'm sure there's better in the area. The service was slow and very unprofessional to the customers and the people experiencing homelessness in the area. I would really recommend taking your business elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
The ice cream and other items are great. The issue: on 5/25 (pick up time 2:59pm) we ordered via yelp/grub hub and were given a time frame to pick up the food. So my son and I waited for that time slot and when we walked in, the woman asked how she could help us. And I said, we are here for pick up. I ordered our 4 milk shakes about 30 minutes ago. She sheepishly grinned and started making the milkshakes. What was the point of ordering on yelp AHEAD of time? This was extremely poor service. There wasn't one person in the store and she was on her phone. I asked her, what was the point of ordering ahead? Basically she has nothing to say because she was slacking. Period.

Yelp
Have vegan cookie and ice cream options! Honestly i wouldnt go back but if you're vegan and craving something sweet you should try it- they let you try the ice cream so if you dont like it just leave. Both the cookie and ice cream tasted very play-dough like. They used soy base- I think if they changed their recipe and used cashew base or something creamier itd be good but for now i wont be returning. I threw mine out because i just did not enjoy it :(
google avatar

Yelp
On paper, this place sounds incredible. Cookies, ice cream, ICE CREAM COOKIE SANDWICHES... it all sounds epic but it did not meet the mark. They have 3 vegan ice cream options and they are probably the worst ice creams I've had. Vegan ice cream is amazing and the options now days are better and better every time I try so it's surprising and disappointing that theirs are pretty bad. The texture is way off-- a little grainy almost and icy. They also have 3 vegan cookie options and they are definitely much much better than the ice creams. I ordered an ice cream sandwich with the oatmeal cookie and chocolate cookie with strawberry ice cream and it was fairly tasty when eaten together but the plain scoops of strawberry and mint chip ice cream's that my dad got were very disappointing. The customer Service experience was also not good. I was waiting to get helped and finally looked around the corner to see one of the employees sitting eating ice cream but when she saw me look, she came to help. I tried to redeem the yelp check in for one free cookie with my purchase and told her I wanted the vegan banana chocolate cookie but once I got home, I realized she gave me a non-vegan cookie which obviously ended up in the trash. I really really hope they will work on getting better choices. I would have expected these vegan ice creams 20 years ago, not in 2021.

Yelp
We recently had the pleasure of discovering "CREAM" after dining in the Mission. My daughter had chocolate ice cream in between to chocolate chip cookies. I had a brownie with vanilla bean ice cream. We both enjoyed our treats and even more, the pleasant conversation with Mohammad, the owner and our server. We will be repeat customers!
google avatar

Yelp
Went by yesterday at 8:00pm, was closed even though hours state they are open until 10:30.
google avatar

Holly P.

Yelp
It was my first visit here and I felt really overwhelmed by the choices and options in store. The employee, Dani, was super kind and helpful. She went out of her way to help me and my friend. Dani made the visit to Cream such a treat. Her recommendation to me and my friend were delicious. It's almost as if she knew what we liked. I anticipate my next visit to be very soon and I hope to see Dani again. Enough great and amazing things cannot be said. Until next time

Yelp
The ice cream sandwiches have become so expensive. Now a mini is $5.00. It used to be $2.95. And the service is really bad. The people there are not friendly. Don't really care to serve you. Would rather be on their phones. I used to really like this shop. The quality on all levels has decreased. So disappointing.
google avatar

Hannah A.

Yelp
A good place to satisfy your sweet tooth! We tried their ice cream sandwiches and they were pretty good. CREAM had standard ice cream flavors which are classic and reliable, but I wish they experimented more with unique flavors. The cookies were decently chewy, but a bit hard at the end of the day. I was hoping the cookies would be warmed up, but they were given at room temperature. It was $14 even for two ice cream sandwiches. On the pricier end, but the portions were filling.

Mina Z.

Yelp
My husband and I used to be regulars here but the place has gone bad. The crew was super unprofessional and unhelpful at night. One employee connected their phone on the store speakers and we can hear them texting back and forth with the sound effect. The texture of the milkshakes became more watery than before. Will not visit again.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
Good dessert place (very close to 16th st Bart, and everything else on Valencia st) to check out after dinner in the mission! For our cookie sandwich we got white chocolate macadamia cookie/chocolate chip cookie (they were warm!), cookie and cream ice cream, and no toppings (they had a wide selection tho!) flavor was good, as what you would except from a cookie sandwich ice cream. wish they have a few seats in the store or outside - but understood if not allowed during pandemic.
google avatar

Jordann G.

Yelp
Closed over 30 minutes early tonight for no reason. Literally ran to lock up when they saw us walking towards the door. It was clear the 3 kids working tonight weren't supposed to be closing up that early either as when I asked why they were closing so early, they all looked at each other waiting for one to come up with an explanation - never received one. Just closed the door on us. Glad I don't live here to be tempted into giving them a second chance later on. If you've got a craving for CREAM, go to any other location in the bay even if this one is more convenient. On top of the bad service, it's a terrible location surrounded by tents and it wreaks of piss.

Mohamed D.

Yelp
This is one of the best ice cream places in SF. I've never had ice cream as good as this this place is really recommended to go here I love this place
google avatar

Doug I.

Yelp
I recently received a too good to go order that included a good amount of food. The downside was a chocolate chip cookie had a bite already taken. If there are more complaints like this than there is a problem.
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
A make your own ice cream sandwich joint. Tons of options for the "buns" like cookies, brownies and do'sants. Even more ice cream and topping options. My own creation was just ok though, but I'm torn about whether that's my fault for my choices or more due to the quality of their options. Do'sant w/ Cookie Dough Ice Cream & Fruity Pebbles: Apparently they're calling it a Do'sant rather than a Cronut®, but it's basically the same hybrid. Seemed kinda smaller than a typical one, especially so as a $6.75 ice cream sandiwch. And it tasted a bit stale. The cookie dough ice cream was just ok; it's no Ben & Jerry's and was definitely not as a heavy on the dough bits. The Fruity Pebbles were a reliable accent on the side.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great concept and the perfect after-dinner treat-ice cream sandwiches made with fresh cookies. We stopped in after dinner nearby to satisfy our sweet tooth. I love the concept and it's simplicity-choose a cookie (or brownie or donut), choose a flavor of ice cream and choose an optional topping (really a coating). Even better, they have a small size made with mini cookies (only $3) that was perfect when we just wanted a small bite. I got chocolate chip cookies with French vanilla ice cream then rolled in mini M&M's-and in case I forgot to mention the cookies are slightly warm so you'll need to eat quickly as it is all a bit soft. At $3 for mini + $0.75 for topping it was a great deal
google avatar

Denniz S.

Yelp
OH, MAMA. How can it get better than picking out your favorite fresh cookie and a giant slab of ice cream in the middle? The portions are very generous. There's typically a line, so be prepared. The wait is worth it tho, folks. Mmmmm mmmm Mmmmm. Dopamine is lighting up my brain just thinking about biting into one of their tasty treats.
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
I tried CREAM for the first time and I was absolutely satisfied. I got the ice cream sandwich with two chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. The cookies were warmed up and had such a soft, chewy texture with a light bite on the outside, pair that up with delicious ice cream and you can't go wrong. So far one of the best ice cream sandwiches I've had. Their cookies are done right and they're warm which makes this desert experience a strong one. Highly recommend.

Lola E.

Yelp
It's a very good place. I love the ice cream cookies are always fresh, but today was a very scary situation. I walked in with my granddaughter there was nobody behind the counter. There was a customer with her little son and she said oh the owner will be back he went to go make a run. Can you stay here and watch the store. That she had to go I was kinda lost for a minute there was nobody in the store so I said yeah I'll stay here. It was a scary situation if you know where creams at on 16th and Mission there's a lot of things running through my head what happens if somebody would've came in with a gunI mean I'm a little person I couldn't take them on I didn't know what to do. It was a very scary situation and it was like a good 10 to 15 minutes waiting for this guy to get back. How do you leave your shop with strangers?
google avatar

Charisaa H.

Yelp
This location is the best!! The two ladies working there wrote me the sweetest message and made my night
google avatar

Global Foodie Y.

Yelp
They specialize in ice cream sandwiches and have interesting flavours. Recommend the rocky road which had pretty big chunks of marshmallow and made for a tasty cold treat.
google avatar

Julia A.

Yelp
We got a 2 scoop ice cream waffle and my husband got the mini cookie sandwich ice cream. Both were delicious. Scoops were big. Stuff was nice. What I would recommend is make sure the napkin holders are full and I understand San Francisco has dirty streets but maybe like only clean right outside their place would make it look much better
google avatar

Brittany R.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with an ice cream sandwich. This is a sugar cookie sandwich with blueberry cheesecake ice cream.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
Ordered an ice cream sandwich. They have vegan options for cookies (about 3 choices) and ice cream (again, only 3 choices). I went for the banana chocolate chip with the caramel ice cream. The cookies were great. The vegan ice cream here is made with soy... and you can tell. It's a funky taste. I'm used to cashew-milk as a vegan choice and this didn't hit, unfortunately. Side note - the board lists the ice cream sandwich as "$6 (including vegan choices)". But it's $7 at the register. They explained that the vegan choice is "more expensive to make". I mean, I don't mind paying extra for vegan (a lot of places do it) but you might wanna update the prices board... After a couple minutes if arguing about it (!), he sold it for $6. Great... Not the best spot for vegan choices. And not great service.

Christopher R.

Yelp
Amazing. The cookies were hot and the ice cream was perfect. I got the snickerdoodle cookies with the cookies and cream ice cream

Mohamed A.

Yelp
Hello, I advise you to go to the store and enjoy the ice cream meal and the new services that the store offers. It tastes very delicious and its price is reasonable. Those who had criticism corrected the errors. Thank you.
